The fantasy baseball season is winding down, and if you are like me, you are constantly looking at your phone and the live scoring. Did Jose Altuve collect that much-needed RBI? Did Ozzie Albies swipe a bag that you have to have in order to overtake your opponent in steals. These next few days and weeks are going to be nerve wracking.
Making things even worse is if you have a player go on the IL or your second baseman is currently mired in a slump. The top players aren’t just sitting there on the waiver wire to be added, so adding the right free agent could be the difference between winning the title and being the best of the losers.
Before we talk about who some of those key free agents may be, let’s look at the rankings, taking into account that they mostly reflect what they have done for the entire season. But I’ll also touch on the players outside the rankings that should be watched or added in the next few days.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Week 16 is here and upon us, and it is stacked with some intriguing inter-league play, as well as a couple teams fitting 8 games into 7 days. With Inter-League, if you happen to have Giancarlo Stanton, Nelson Cruz, or Yordan Alvarez, pay attention to their lineups. While I plan on laying out a couple special players this week to give you that competitive edge, there are also a few players returning the IL that could pay dividends down the stretch. Most likely he has been stashed on IL, but Chris Sale is inching closer to returning, and looking good! The White Sox are about to be whole again as both Luis Robert and Eloy are playing in rehab games. Cookie Carrasco is eyeing a return this upcoming week, as is Aaron Sanchez if you can need to stash some arms. If you have hung around this long, it’s a labor of love…We have made it 16 weeks, and if your league is the traditional 24 weeks….2 months left. Let’s go!!
Please, blog, may I have some more?Freshly promoted Mariners rookie outfielder slash phenom slash heart throb slash Seattle savior slash pride of Pike’s Place, Jarred Kelenic put on a clinic in just his second game in the majors with three hits in four at-bats, scoring two runs and his first big league home run, a 2-run shot to right in the third inning that put the Ms up 3-0. After a disappointing debut on Thursday where he went 0-for-4 without reaching base, the dinger was Kelly’s (can I call him Kelly?) first major league hit, but he wasn’t done showing off his skillz with a “z” yet. We got to witness that highly touted speed of his, as he hustled out two doubles and added an additional RBI out of that C-Attle lead off spot. Mmhm. The super prospect is likely owned everywhere at this point and for good reason, I imagine what follows is some hilarious worst-to-first Major League type scenario where Jarred carries the Mariners back to relevance. Please let it be so. This isn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility, Kyle Seager and Mitch Haniger also homered Friday night and raised eyebrow emoji face…do all of a sudden the Ms have an offense? If Kelenic is going to hit like this, and going to hit lead off, it kickstarts this offense in a huge way and just his presence could make a lot some of these players more valuable. I’m looking at you, Dylan Moore (2-for-4, run, 7th steal). Wishful thinking, perhaps? Still Kelenic’s big night Friday was exciting to see, and a glimpse of hope for a fanbase that hasn’t seen their team in the post season in almost 20 years. Is he going to hit three extra base hits every night? Maybe add some steals tomorrow? Close out games? Strike out sides? No-hit the Tigers? Call balls and strikes? Probably! Either way, you’ve got to be hype to see what’s next for Jarred Kelenic. This kid’s gonna be a star! Ha-cha-cha!

The Orioles are doing well this year, but you know they’re wistfully looking over at the left coast and wondering what could’ve been with Kevin Gausman ($7,300). He’s enjoying his time by the Bay. He is carrying a 4.05 ERA, but is striking out over 11 K/9 and hardly walking anyone. That is a recipe for success, almost as good as Rice A Roni! Sure, the A’s are kicking butt this year. But these guys have only managed to tag Gausman for a .118 avg/.320 OPS slash line in 34 at bats. So tap Gausman to zag against the crowd in this main slate and grab an advantage. Now on to the rest of the picks.

People a little too comfortable with their surroundings, don’t pay as much attention, think everything’s good and hey let’s listen to Sugar Ray…frankly, act like the knights of summer. But Cat Stark is right, winter is coming, and it’s known as your DFS entry on Draft today. Don’t get cute with someone like J.A. Happ, who’s in the newest of all new situations, the Yankees’ starting rotation, being asked to bring hope when Judge is out and the Yanks are staring at the play-in game. Or the most Texas name of all time, Lance McCullers, facing a Texas team who hits him to a .310 batting average and .865 OPS. Corey Kluber is the man. After his post-All Star game hiccup, he’s still carrying a 12-6 record with a 2.88 ERA and .95 WHIP. He’s facing Detroit, whose best players are collecting checks sitting by the rehab pool. Let the Klubinator loose and dominate like the Night King (for the love of R’hllor, George, finish the book!). Now let’s look at a few more early-, middle- and late-round picks for your Draft…drafts!
