With a last name like Myers, I could have gone slasher film with this title pun, or made a play on words so terrific it would have made Myers perk up. Not that great? Well, fortunately for you, I went SNL with Wayne’s World. Even the pun with Dane is close to movie co-star Dana Carvey!

I know, I know, don’t quit my day job. – Just remember you’re taking fantasy advice from a guy who’s had plenty of jo-jobs. Nothing I’d call a career. Let me put it this way. I have an extensive collection of name tags and hair nets.

So what am I thinking about when it comes to Dane Myers? Well, he’s a fox. And, Oh Yes, He will be mine. He makes me feel kinda funny, like when we used to climb the rope in gym class.

First off, he is back from an injured right oblique strain, where the Marlins DFA’d one Matt Mervis. We fear change…. But not in this case.

Myers has seven steals in just 95 plate appearances so far in 2025. His sprint speed is 28.3 Ft/sec, which isn’t elite, but is certainly above MLB average. What do you think so far? It’s like a new pair of underwear: At first, it’s constrictive, but after a while, it becomes a part of you.

His minor league track record isn’t long, with 2023 being the only full injury-free season to look at. In that year, Myers stole 27 bases while only being caught six times. His current BABIP and BA/OBP is likely unsustainable, but he should still settle in above .350 BABIP based on his track record, which will lead to plenty of chances to swipe some bases. Ex-squeeze me? Baking powder? Did I say settle in above .350 BABIP? I sure did, and that OBP could top .400 if he can cut down on the K% just a little bit.

Finally, his power numbers haven’t quite translated to the majors yet, and maybe they never will, but his healthy season in 2023 actually features more home runs than stolen bases, and this “kid” is 29 years old. His legs should actually be starting to slow down, and his power numbers tick up. I guess what I am saying here is that he could possibly get you 15/10 or 10/15, or maybe even 20/20 (T’yaa and monkeys might fly out of my butt!) over the remainder of the season. This should have the Marlins thinking the following about batting Otto Lopez in the 3-hole….We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy! We’re scum! We suck!

If you need a guy with some upside and a few steals, Dane Myers should certainly have you thinking Game On!

Here’s the current Stolen Base Leader Board through Sunday, June 1st

The Speed Dials

We went 3 for 3 this week (Technically 2 for 3, but Mateo stole two bases) now 5 for 20 on the season. Just like that, we’re back on our pace from 2024.

Rangers vs Rays – Tuesday June 3rd

Josh H. Smith – Not a great day for a Speed Dial, as the best pitchers to run against are facing teams who have all of their speed guys rostered. Or they are facing the Rockies. With Smith we will try and find a steal. He has 18 of them the last two seasons, versus getting caught only four times. His sprint speed is just slightly above league average at 27.7 Ft/Sec. He’ll try to pilfer a base against Drew Rasmussen of the Rays who allows .196 SB/IP and a 89.5% success rate against. Danny Jansen is at the bottom of the catcher throwing leaderboards.

Marlins vs Rockies  – Wednesday June 3rd

Dane Myers – Well. Here is where Dane Myers comes in. No matter who the Rockies end up throwing on Wednesday, this is where my article lead comes in. If it doesn’t look right, you can flip it and target Brenton Doyle for the Rockies, but playing for the Rockies, like marriage, should be punishment for shoplifting in some countries.

Astros vs Giants – Thursday June 4th

Jake Meyers – With eight steals, Meyers is our target today against the leader in stolen bases allowed since the start of 2024, Mitch Keller (This is with Corbin Burnes injured). Meyers features a 28.3 Ft/Sec sprint number, which is still above league average. Keller allows a 91.5% success rate and .173 SB/IP. Henry Davis is one of the best in the game at cutting down runners, and Keller’s numbers would be much worse without him.

Rays vs Marlins – Friday June 5th

Jose Caballero – How this guy isn’t rostered in daily leagues and benched on his days not in the lineup, I don’t understand. Fun fact, he is only the 7th fastest Ray on the roster, even though he has 63 steals since the start of 2024. Even with that, he only rostered in 14.6% of ESPN leagues! He’ll face Edward Cabrera and his .239 SB/IP along with the subpar Marlins catchers.

That’s all, folks. Party On!
