First off, we’re taking me out of the equation…[removes earth skin, ghost-like figure sits in spinning office chair, saying, “Wheee…” Sees another ghost, “Oh, wow, you got a bedsheet? The eye-holes are so perfectly cut! Damn, and a mouth hole? That’s amazing. Hey, where’d you get that bedsheet? Is there like a ghost bedsheet check-in desk where you can get your own bedsheet? You’re a dead Klansman? Oh, I see,” awkwardly moves spinning chair away from dead Klansman] …So, taking me out of the equation, but not taking off earth skin, has me looking at Steamer’s projections. Their Rafael Devers projections are 93/31/92/.270/4 in 560 ABs. FanGraphs’ Depth Charts projections have him at 97/32/100/.269/4 in 598 ABs. Stepping myself back in, I have him projected for 95/27/89/.277/5 in 542 ABs. His stats last year were 87/28/83/.272/3 in 525 ABs. Wait it gets even more boring! His 2nd half stats were 25/5/22/.244/1 in 209 ABs. Yo, serious question, is Rafael Devers now Ty France? I see London, I see Ty France, I see Rafael Devers and he looks like Ty France. Call him Rafael Depardieu. Put him on a bicycle drunk wearing a beret with a quiver of baguettes, and make stinky-stinky-poo-poo face as he smells his own armpits to see if it’s him who smells. It is. Rafael LePew that [waving smell away] 2nd half of the season. Sure, there’s a shoulder injury that was hampering him, so…[finger to earbud]…I’m being told we don’t know if his shoulder is good now. “Can Rafael Devers only face Gerrit Cole?” Sorry, I’m not asking you, I’m asking who this is in my earbud. Hello! Earbud! So, what can we expect from Rafael Devers for 2025 fantasy baseball and what makes him overrated?

Something happens with fantasy baseballers (<–my mom’s term!) where they repeatedly rank and draft a specific player at the same spot (a lifetime ADP? Someone should come up with that concept.) and since the player is always drafted and ranked there, they are drafted there even when they shouldn’t be. Last year on the Player Rater, Rafael Devers was the 6th best 3rd baseman, and 53rd overall. He’s currently being drafted and ranked around 30th overall, as he always is. I’d contend (for the Light-Light-Light Heavyweight Title) that Devers shouldn’t even be drafted around 53rd overall, as he ended last year, because of how bad his 2nd half was, but that would at least make more sense. The 2nd round where he is being drafted? Stop being daft with your draft. Symmetry points!

In his 64 ABs in September, Rafael Devers’s Hard Contact was 22.7%. Would be about the 4th worst in baseball if over the course of the year, and same as Luis Arraez. Look at his exit velocities by month:

Sure, sure, I know! Buh-buh-buh-buh-but his shoulder was bothering him so he’s fine now. Again: How do you know that to be the case? Listen, if he were the type to have a 30/20/.300 profile normally and he could offset some of the shoulder-is-still-hurting risk, then I’d be big whooping here. I’d be Mr. Big Whoop big whooping all the way to the bank if he could have 20 steals, as well. But if he does have a 27/.270 season with no speed, because he has no real speed, then what are you drafting as your 2nd rounder? Nolan Arenado? Isaac Paredes? A poor man’s Burger? Is Devers an em-effing White Castle square-burger? ACKSUALLY, I like White Castle, and I don’t like Rafael Devers.

Happy 2025 Baseball Seaon Grey! It’s almost keeper time in my long-time, 9 team, 1C, 2DH, 23/260 NL-only 5×5. I can keep 11. These are my guys (until you tell me I’m wrong?).
KEEP:
C: T Stephenson $2,
1B/3B: Candelario $5, Bohm 8, Vientos 12,
SS: McCain 2,
OF: Carroll 16, Heliot Ramos $5 that’s 7
P: Sanchez $8 (next year too – I’m a Phillies fan), Nick Martinez $5 (ridiculous in September, but too much love?), E. Diaz and Tanner Scott each $5 (+$5 for every additional year if I want to sign them long-term) takes me to 11 for $70 before long-term considerations. I like that. Tucker/Mookie/Soto the best free agents. I will own at least one of them. Then some wheels perhaps.

Just missing the cut?:
SS: Adames $14. I love Willie! I weep for the soul-sucking move to SF! FD: I owned both Soler and Conforto when SF sapped their life forces.
OF: Garrett Mitchell $8 (not yet, right?)
2B: Otto Lopez $7
SS: Dansby Swanson $16
P: J. Martinez 9, Rey. Lopez $19 (great when he pitched), Puk $8, R. Ray $8 (tempting)
all decent, but enough to kick back somebody else?
Would you or the Nation do it differently?
Thank you!

Rudy’s 6×6 (Yahoo) OBP rankings have Captain Woo Cubano at #5. You taking him there in an OBP league?

10 team keep forever league. We keep 13. QS, OBP and SVHD along with the norm categories.

This is my current team:
C-
1B- Alonso
2B-
3B-Devers
SS-Lindor
2B/SS-Volpe
1B/3B-Paredes
LF- Yordan
CF-Jackson Merrill
RF- Bellinger
OF-Jarren Duran
UTIL- Rooker
UTIL- Lawrence Butler

SP: Kirby, Flaherty and Freddy P

My pick is coming up in about 4 picks. I haven’t picked at all but everyone went crazy with SP, either drafting or keeping. All SPs currently available are in your Sideways Bosom Tier or down other than Rodon and Pfaadt. I almost expect both of those to be gone. Do you see a need to try to double up on SP or go 2B and wait on SP at this point. I have a pick then a team has the back to back picks at the turn and then I pick again. After that, I will have to wait another 16 picks and could double up on SP then. Thoughts on strategy? I did not expect that so many SP would be gone before I even get my first pick lol

These are the 2B currently available:
Turang
Gacia Jr
Andres Gimenez
Stott
Rengifo
Bogarts
Arraez

Only 4 other teams need a 2B at the moment. With the team I listed above, who would be your target 2B (maybe top 3) and who would be the final guy that you would be ok with having as your starting 2B?

If you think Devers should be drafted 53rd or worse, you should dial down your 2025 projections to last year’s stats or worse. You have him projected for better stats in 4 of the 5 categories. With your projected stats, an ADP around 30 is about right.

https://www.fantrax.com/fantasy/league/LEAGUE ID/draft-results?view=ROUND

If you go to the RCL Signup Sheet in the Update, you can find league IDs. If you copy and paste them in the above address where I have LEAGUE ID, Yyou can see draft results.

For example, RCL 1 has an ID of gto50491m6k0p7g3. So, this would be the link:

Love these Schmohawk posts!!!! Always afraid you’re going to post one of my guys!!! Agree with these first two!! Rarely disagree with you on these.

OK, so got a keeper league question for you. Bare with me …

Keeper league that we keep 12. The top 8 or 9 are obvious keepers but it’s the last two or three I’m having a difficult time with. Here’s my current keepers (unless, of course, you see something you don’t like):

Shohei Ohtani
Gunnar Henderson
Julio Rodriguez
Austin Riley
Manny Machado
Adley Rutschman
Mark Vientos
Lawrence Butler
Paul Skenes
Shota Imanaga
Bailey Ober
Bryan Woo

Here’s who I could keep instead but I’m not sure about:

Pablo Lopez
Eury Perez
David Bednar
Tyler O’Neil
Kristian Campbell (2B prospect/Boston)

Is there anyone you would switch out? Pablo Lopez is the one I really can’t figure out. I can’t stand him. He was terrible last year but somehow his numbers were decent at the end of the season. I like Campbell too but the Bregman trade makes me think he’s blocked to infinity and beyond. O’Neil is another tough one. He could dominate with the fences moved back in at Camden Yards.
Would you make any changes? Or go with the 12 I’ve currently got selected? Thanks.

devers is also hurting the sawks by insisting he play 3rd. they are clearly better team with bregman at 3rd (won the gg there last year ffs) and any one of their interesting 2b options (preferably campbell). sack up and dh him. trade yoshida to the mariners.

speaking of jake burger, he has hit exactly .250 three years running.

did show the kid our dc teams yesterday.

I gambled on him last year late June or early July in dynasty. Threw a couple prospects and a closer for him and an arm in return. I got a few comments on it ranging from meh to I got fleeced. I was gambling, and then grew enamored as season went on. Id love to say I was high on him like I was Doyle, but I was not. I am so glad I did gamble vs wait, because seems price is rising especially in dynasty. Im def in on him this year.

Grey, I am a Sox fan and have steadily soured on Devers the past couple of years..def. come to the conclusion he is overrated. First of all, he is NEVER totally healthy…I’m not sure when we need to consider that this shoulder issue is a chronic condition…as soon as he entered Spring training, lo and behold….shoulder is soar, as he literally acts like an entitled baby when the team entertains the notions of starting one of the best 3B in MLB over him at 3rd. Great….your defense blowns whenever it is that your healthy, you’re NOT healthy, so pout and refuse to cede 3rd despite showing up the camp fat….which brings to me to my second point.
His attitude blows. He has never been interested in being a leader, has admitted as much, and I’m convinced winning really isn’t a priority, either. He is one of those complacent, entitled vets that just wants comfort and a large check.
