For the BIG Top 100 Prospects show, we decided to shake things up as I handed the reins over to Lance. With an advanced look at one of the later drafts of my forthcoming Top 100 (and then some…), Lance led the conversation through my process, and philosophy. We talk tons of players, running through some of the big discrepancies between Fangraphs, Baseball America, and my Razzball list. It’s a big show, we cover 100 players. That’s a lot. As always, head over to Rotowear.com and use our promo-code SAGNOF to get 20% off any of their fine shirts! It’s the Razzball Prospect Podcast:

Loved the willie Calhoun analysis towards the end. I call it rob refsnyder syndrome. Look where he plays now…
I enjoyed listening to this. I rely on your lists. Thanks for putting so much work into them.
What do you think of Will Smith? With his recent hot streak, he’s looking like an elite catcher.
And do you still consider Michel Baez a great prospect? Hi feel like he’s gone from an overlooked prospect, to a possibly overrated one. I’m hoping I’m wrong.

What do you think of will Smith? With his recent hot streak, he’s beginning to look like an elite catching prospect.
Do you still consider Michel Baez a great prospect? I’m worried he’s gone from an under the radar player, to possibly an overrated player.
Would you do Eloy Jimenez for Votto in a 12 team keeper. I am currently in first place and need a at.
We get to keep 10 players(7 minor leaguers also) and it’s an OBP league. I have some nice MINORS such as Gleybar Torres, Acuna, Robles, Fiorinal(NYY?) And Trammel. Should I make this deal? Should I try to get him to throw in a pitcher such as Newcomb?
Thanks
Love the aggressive Kieboom ranking. Guy is killing it and not slowing down one bit in AA.
@Alcibiades Escobar:
I agree. Not sure why other sites have had him like a full 10-20 picks after Austin Riley.
Do you think vlad will be up this year for more than a Sept. Cup of coffee? Thanks
Ralph/Lance – Eric Pardinho and Ronny Mauricio are both off to hot starts, in addition to the aforementioned George Valera from the 2017 J2 class.
Either of these two, or any others approaching “buy now” status? And specifically on Pardinho and Mauricio, where do they end up on the offseason lists if they keep this pace up?
Love these Ralph ! You’re the best in the biz imo… I’m in complete rebuild mode.. will finish last and draft Bohm for sure… we keep 7-10 MLB + 10 farm… 5×5 Roto… I have:
Senzel
Bichette
Robert
Rodgers
Hampson
Welker
Calhoun
Royce
Ramos
Victor
Marsh
Matias
Baez
My plan is keeping my 10 farm and using a few more of these guys that will be up next year as MLB keepers… they’d also be joining Dahl, Franchy, Fowler, and Teoscar who are already in my majors.. anyways, I’m intrigued by Valera .. Anyone worth dropping for him? Or bring another farm guy up that’s close ? Thank you as always!
40 minutes in and I had to pause it. I can’t wait to continue. So good and so informative. I went from rebuilding in 2016 and taking Ralph’s advice to now being in 2nd and in contention. Take notes people.
Ralph, who is the one 1B prospect you would want in dynasty, 6×6? Thanks
@David: 1B prospects are thin. I really want to still believe in A.J Reed but feel like Alonso, Bradley, McKay, and even Josh Naylor are the best power guys at the position. As always, depends on how long you want to wait to compete. I answered this myself hoping for another perspective.
Thanks to your work I was able to grab trammel and Hiura and trying to figure out who to drop for Jesus Sanchez. Does Sanchez have top 5-10 potential for next year?
Off topic question, do you still prefer Harper over machado for dynasty? I’m getting tired of his inconsistency and pondering a trade.
Thanks again for all your hard work and insight.
Great podcast, thanks Ralph. You’ve really grown as an evaluator since the early days man, I appreciate your input and analysis a ton man.
I followed Lance on Twitter and was almost immediately blocked, without even tweeting at him. He’d probably block Grey if he didn’t already know him, lol. Pretty weak!
@Nots:
Just curious, where do you think Andrew Vaughn would slot in?
Since my team is not contending this season in a 12-team salary cap keeper league (you can hold 7 in the ML), I just dealt Javier Baez, T, Mahle and Nelson Cruz for Carlos Carrasco, Jesus Luzardo, JP Crawford, and Mitch Keller. Had to drop Nick Gordon and Austin Hays to fit the MLers within the 7. MY ML rosters also has Tuucker (called up) Fraizer (called up today), Trammell, Calhoun, Senzel, Buxton. How do you view the deal and give some named=s to replace Tukcer and Fraizer
@An Old Fart: Don’t love the deal, I would have kept Baez. You took on a lot of pitching too, maybe that’s a need. It’s not awful value but it’s a lot of pitching.
Great farm! I’d take a shot on try some younger upside plays like George Valera, Jeter Downs, Colton Welker, Pache, Blake Rutherford, Brandon Marsh. Or if you want closer to the bigs guys, checkout Christian Stewart, Nathaniel Lowe, Cavan Biggio, Zack Collins.
@Ralph Lifshitz:
yeah, i was very low on pitching in the bigs and minors.
Would you grab Barrito and/or Hiura over Biggio?
Kyle Tucker is up!
@Stumanji!: rejoice!
King
After seeing a few weeks of AB ,who do you like better for a dynasty league.
Acuna
Soto
Or
Taylor trammel
Do you think the Acuna luster has worn off?
@Espn writer looking for advice: Why has the Acuna luster worn off? He doesn’t have 200 at bats yet. Soto is a great hitter, and could have a more valuable career than Acuna, but it’s insaenly early to make that call. I’m sure there’s a lot of players you thought were better than other players a year ago, but don’t feel that way now. Let time pass before you come to final conclusions.
@Ralph Lifshitz:
Ok fair enough , thanks for your insight.
So
Acuna, Soto and trammel is how you rank them.
@Espn writer looking for advice: For sure, I might lean Soto in points, but still feel Acuña will be great.
Nice! Thx.
Question- in 12 team 5×5 roto dynasty league – non competitive rebuilding team with loads of power and speed bats with relatively poor batting average… would you deal away Cards Jose Martinez for Taylor Trammell?:
JMart is a late bloomer with nice looking BA and some power. Trammell just a lottery ticket at this point- and he is getting caught stealing at a very high rate in the minors – for a guy whose calling card is speed first…
@Goldirocks: Trammell is hit first, and the steal numbers you’re quoting don’t have any context. Khalil Lee got caught a ton last year and isn’t getting caught now. Trammell has hit, power, run. He’s a long term better play than Jose Martinez.
Are you getting Jose? If it fits your team construct and needs, do it. On a flat player to player level, I’d want Trammell.
Good podcast guys, thanks.
@David: Thanks!
Got offered Nelson Cruz, Andrelton Simmons and Jesus Sanchez for Jo Adell, Matt Adams & Andrew Heaney, i’m competing for this year. Getting Simmons would allow me to move Machado to 3B, it’s a 16 team h2h obp singles is a also a a stat. Pull the trigger?
@TJvera: I think you have to, good deal, even if trading Adell hurts.
I got four for sure in the top 20. Tatis, Jimenez, Trammell, Riley and wonder where did Luis Urias end up, did I miss him?
@jose H.: I got him 28
@Ralph Lifshitz: It must be the stupid leg kick that has slowed him down. He was doing better earlier on the year, with better AVG and OBP.
@jose H.: I haven’t changed my feeling on him. He’s got great floor.
