What’s up party people? It’s your friendly neighborhood Butters here to help fix your points league rosters. So smash that like and subscribe button and let’s get on to some bats who can help you out. Number one on that list is Willie Calhoun who should really be on more rosters, if only for the power potential. He’s been DH (aka Utility) eligible only but you can now deploy him in the outfield and that’s a beautiful thing. I’m encouraged by his start to the season, particularly that he’s managed to keep his average around .275. I would be grabbing him everywhere to see if this is the season he gets some things figured out. All he (and any of the other guys here) cost is the worst player on your roster.
Catcher
Mike Zunino hits bombs and strikes out, and not much in between. So he’s got some good points potential but if your league punishes for K’s he will, unfortunately, give you some negative point days. He’ll be a frustrating guy to roster but when he’s right… ooh yeah.
Austin Nola has been looking strong in the past couple of weeks, not that it’s a particularly high bar. He’s set up to be an impact catcher rest of season with that lineup around him.
Jacob Stallings is riding a hot week, but he’s quietly having himself a solid season, hovering just outside the top 10 catchers.
Danny Jansen is back from the dead after a truly horrendous start to the season. I liked him coming into the season but if you drafted him, I hope you dropped him for someone else a while ago. However, he’s finally showing signs of life and that makes him someone to watch.
Corner Infield
Bobby Dalbec has been fire the past week, doubling his season point total. I’d of course like to see the Ks come down but there’s real potential for a breakout here. Find a spot on your roster and grab him.
Josh Fuentes just put up almost half his season points in the past week. He’s well worth a roster spot while he’s scorching hot. He could also turn into a season-long contributor, particularly for his Coors games.
Miguel Sano is just around 50 percent rostered but I expect that to rise after he smashed five of his seven home runs in the last week. The power will play all season but expect some rough patches where he doesn’t do much.
Yandy Diaz doesn’t have the power that we like to chase for points (he’s yet to put one in the seats so far) but that hasn’t stopped him from putting up solid numbers all season. Don’t expect a league winner as the lack of power caps his upside but look to add him as depth or an injury fill in.
Brandon Belt is still on the bench with an upper-body injury that the team is calling side tightness. The Giants clearly don’t expect him to miss much more time since they haven’t put him on the IL, but he has sat on the bench for six straight. Prior to the injury he was a very solid corner option. He’ll give you spurts of power and then go through a dry spell but he still manages to walk and find other avenues to get points. I wouldn’t run to the wire to grab him until the injury clears up but definitely keep your eye on him.
Middle Infield
Brandon Crawford is starting to get himself noticed with his roster percentage shooting way up. It’s tough to ignore the fact that he’s already blasted eleven bombs and we’re only in May. That ties him for 8th in the majors and he’s only three off the lead. Not bad for a guy who struggles to get to 15 and has only topped 20 once in his career. Will it continue? It’s 2021 so anything can happen, but given that he calls the Bay home it seems unlikely that he hits his current 48 bomb pace. Still, he’s been great so far, and maybe the additional fly balls he’s hitting allow him to keep raking.
Josh Harrison has come back down to earth in terms of his point totals but he’s still swinging the bat well with an average around .350 over the past seven days. That should lead to good things.
Gavin Lux should have a path to even more playing time with Corey Seager out. He’s heating up and the window to pick him up will close soon. As a top prospect we know he has the talent to be great.
Miguel Rojas is still floating around on some wavier wires, don’t let him be on yours. Even with Jazz Chisholm back he’s still batting near the top of the order. The return of a player like Jazz should least to better-hitting situations for Rojas and boost his production.
Luis Arraez doesn’t offer much in the way of power, but he gets hits. He’s putting up points. The upside isn’t there but you could do worse in deeper leagues or as a fill-in.
Nick Maton has been hitting when he gets the chance. Playing time could be an issue but so far he’s been finding at-bats. His production has been solid if not eye-popping making him only a deeper league target for now.
Outfield
Darin Ruf has served as Belt’s fill-in at first and he’s running with the opportunity. Right now he’s only eligible in the outfield but he only needs a couple more games at first to add that one. He brings some strikeout downside but somehow the Giants offense is mashing this season. He’s essentially free right no so scoop him as an injury replacement.
Pavin Smith cooled down last week but don’t forget what he was doing prior to that he swinging a good bat. Injuries should keep his path to playing time open.
Adam Duvall is quietly putting together a solid season. Nothing earth-shattering but he’s giving you solid production. The last couple weeks show that he may be hearing up. He’s widely available.
Seth Brown is available pretty much everywhere. His last week wasn’t very good but he has a nice stretch before that. He’s just a deep league guy for now.
