Finally!  The finale!  Finally finale!  As you’ll hear on the Pod, we had some delays getting our wrap-up show recorded, but we finally got together to review the 2016 season!  The season that was…  The Brewers were awful, Grey steamrolled me with his sheer number of moves in our RCL league, Joe Ross wasn’t that good…  Ugh!  In our finale, we review all of the league leaders in the standard 5×5 cats, and also break down some of leaders in the indicator stats like BABIP and HR rate from this past season.  We then review our Official 2016 Picks, which I think went a lot better for me than Grey!  You be the judge!  And of course we end the show thanking everyone who helped make 2016 a great season, mainly you, Razzball Nation listeners!  Here’s our final edition of the 2016 Razzball Baseball Podcast:

Talking about Cubs pitchers, some broadcaster, can’t remember which one, brought up a point about how the wind in Wrigley was blowing in most of the year. Could explain the amazing stats put up by the pitchers. There all going to be overvalued next year.

@regan: @Grey: Not sure if there’s much a takeaway here, was the wind just happening to be blowing in during home games? How often does it blow in vs. out? We need a weatherman…

        • regan says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: I managed to find the stats after wasting way to much time in the internet. Generally the wind blows in from center in April and May and tends to blow out during the summer. This year it blew in 48/81 home games and only blew out 19 games. HR were 1.2 per game and runs were 7.3 with the wind coming in vs 3.7HR and 9.6R per game when the wind was blowing in. So yes it had a huge impact on the pitchers.

This is an excerpt from the article:
“This year’s figures do not represent an anomaly. Beginning with the year 2000, the wind has blown out more than it has blown in at Wrigley only once, in 2004, when it blew out 39 times compared with 35 times blowing in, with eight crosswinds. The wind has blown in at least 50 times in these four seasons: 2000, 2001, 2009 and 2013.”

@regan: Dude! Can was anoint you the official Razzball weatherman?! I already saw all sorts of flukes with BABIP and LOB for Lester and Hendricks with their FIPs way higher, so maybe this is a big reason why! I might follow up and research this more for the ranks next yr :)

    JB / Grey!

Great pod! Enjoyed throughout the season. Too bad for Jose Canseco interview. I would have asked him the following questions.

    a. Growing up who was faster, stronger, better you or Ozzie?

    b. When did you know that you would be a great baseball player?

    c. Which pitcher did he most enjoy hitting against? Which pitcher did he least enjoy hitting against?

I agree though that he was a dick in the interview and his press guy was even more of a jerk.

    Cheers,
    Ante

We’ll ask him those next time we have him on!

      • Ante GALIC says:
        (link)

        @Grey: Grey!

        a. Also ask him who is more to blame for all his legal problems, his father or his mother?

        b. My all-time favorite player is Frank Thomas from the ChiSox. Lots of spousal problems there too but his first hit was a dandy – a laser-like triple to the opposite field which the right fielder could even pick it was hit so hard and fast. Maybe you can get him on the show and he could promote his line of beer that he sells in the Chicagoland area.

        c. Also, let JB ask the sex question to Gorman Thomas or Pedro Martinez and let him see how it feels.

        Cheers,
        Ante

I’ll definitely take all of the sex and relationship questions here on out, Grey is banned from those!
