Baseball, like a flower, blooms in the spring. They also share equally effusive PR people. Just the other day I read about how a petunia’s branches gained 15 pounds and was in the best shape of its life.

Howdy Razzball, faithful! I was kicking around some ideas in January when Truss asked me to take the Top 100 Starting Pitchers over for 2024. I think it’s now time to turn one of those ideas into reality. But first…as always, I like to lead with the link to Rudy’s.Razzball subscriptions. The tools, ad-free-browsing, Streamonator, […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?[licks finger, puts it in the air] It’s best ball weather, folx. That wind from the north bringing the chill warns not of failure, but of luck and opportunity. There’s fun to be had. For some players, there’s a bunch of money on the line too. Right about now, you’re probably fending off ads from DraftKings, Underdog, NFBC, Fantrax, and a legion of other providers that are advertising best ball leagues. Sign up bonuses! Overlay! Just 2 more needed to fill this league that drafts at 1AM!
Oh, and RazzSlam starts on March 4 (that’s today!). We’re still working on making it a national holiday, but so far only Kiribati recognizes the sanctity of this holy day.
Personally, best ball is my favorite fantasy format. As a middle-aged corporate worker who has duties to family, animals, civic society, and video games, I have little time to log in and meticulously manage baseball rosters. That’s where best ball comes into play: I draft a team, and then the provider tallies only the top scores from eligible players and discards the rest. I don’t need to worry about 12PM vs 6PM starts, or late scratches, or day-to-day injuries, or, or, or. If you like worrying about that stuff, then great. Me? I’ve got 3 hours in the time where work ends and kids bedtimes begin to do a bunch of stuff, and looking at my fantasy roster usually doesn’t make the cut.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Okay, I’m going to try to show you my 2024 LABR team, but I have to warn you, if your parental controls are too high on your browser, you might not be able to see my team. If, for unstints, you have your Chrome browser at PG-13, you won’t even see my outfield. To help those people, and I’m only going to do this this one time, J*lio Rodriguez and A*ron J*dge are both in my outfield, and, ya know what, that’s not even the sexiest outfielder.
Please, blog, may I have some more?Welcome to the countdown of the top 100 hitters for the 2024 fantasy season. This season we will be bringing you the top 100 hitters every other week during the regular season. There is a clear shift taking place in the hitter draft dynamic and the name of that game is speed. While some of the most talented hitters may be guys like Juan Soto or Matt Olson, the need for speed at the top draft has pushed down that pure hitting talent. There should be no question at the top of the draft where the only player in the league that can go 40/70 has to be taken. However, as the rest of the first round unwinds there is a plethora of young talent with what feels like limitless upside. Take a risk on a pitcher or power-only slugger and the sledding will be tough the rest of the draft. Good luck to all fantasy managers during this draft season and without further ado, let the debate begin as we work through the beginning of the top 100 hitters for the 2024 fantasy baseball season.
Please, blog, may I have some more? For four hours twice a year, I clear the calendar and settle in at the computer screen to click along with fantasy baseball luminaries like Scott White, Mike Gianella, and a handful of Razzball’s finest, including the master lothario himself. I love it. The niche math in motion appeals directly to some lizard-brain survivalist inside me. Here’s how the night played out for me:
Please, blog, may I have some more?Spring training is in full gear and fantasy drafts are rolling out. So that means it is time for the final installment of the 2024 Fantasy Baseball Dynasty Rankings. This week we feature the top 25 players.
Here is a look at the breakdown of this week’s grouping:
6 players between the ages of 30-34
14 players between the ages of 25-29
5 players between the ages of 20-24
12 infielders
10 outfielders
1 starting pitchers
1 starting pitcher/designated hitter
1 infielder/outfielder
There are, once again, 25 players who I broke down into my three age categories. Leading the way by a large margin is the group of players between the ages of 25 and 29. These are the players you expect to build your team around. There are still some great players who are in their 30’s, but do you want a player with maybe a three-year window of excellence or a player who a seven-year window, or greater? I don’t. I want the player who is approaching or at the start of their prime years to maximize their production I expect from them.
And as you will see, there is a reason why so many people consider the Atlanta Braves to be a dominant team for years to come. Of the 25 players listed in this group, six play for the Braves. The next closest team is the Dodgers with three players, with the Astros, Blue Jays, Phillies and Yankees coming in with two players apiece.
Anyway, for the final time this year, let’s get to the 2024 Fantasy Baseball Dynasty Rankings: Players 25-1…
Please, blog, may I have some more?I’m back to host the second meeting of Analytics Anonymous, 2024 edition. Today is all about pitching. Specifically, we’re going to look at Starting Pitching (SP) value. For those who’ve read my work over the past year may remember a few analyses on this topic. The major piece was published on February 6, 2023 under […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?Hap-hap-happy Saturday (or whatever day it is, wherever you are) Razzballers! I’ve got a little extra pep in my step because it is the most wonderful time of the year: RazzSlam. I will see a few of you during the draft! If you don’t have enough fantasy baseball in your life, there is still time […]
Please, blog, may I have some more? What’s poppin’, Razzpimples? So here we are. My Top 30 closers for 2024 fantasy baseball. Last year I split up #1-20 and #21-40, but this year I figured what the hell, meet in the middle by putting them into one article and shaving the list down to 30. Cuz I thought about it, and after […]
Please, blog, may I have some more?By the time you read this, we’ll have officially turned the calendar page to March, and I for one couldn’t be happier that we’re down to mere weeks before opening day. We’ve spent the last month or so looking at each infield position and now it’s time to head to the outfield. Since there are […]
Please, blog, may I have some more? This Monday the RazzSlam starts; this Sunday I take part in LABR in Florida, which is where I am when you read this (if you read this on Saturday or Sunday).
