I tried to re-create the magic of last week’s podcast, but I’m pretty sure it didn’t take. Instead, Grey goes full Reality TV villain mode, and not so sneakily tries to chip away at the unbreakable Halph relationship. He’s an only child, he doesn’t like to share! He then announces I will be sold off to the 16th person to sign up for next week’s Razzball Only FantasyDraft Contest (there won’t be a contest this week), in our new “Win a Date with Halp” segment. Yes, even if it’s a dude (apparently, I didn’t read the fine print in my contract). I also congratulate MattTruss for breaking through and absolutely dominating the field in last week’s tournament. On the fantasy baseball side, I point out that nobody in “the industry” (that term just bothers me for some reason) was as high as Grey in the preseason rankings on two of the bigger pitching breakouts this year, Lance McCullers and Michael Pineda, while also discussing the past and future rankings of Mookie Betts, Charlie Blackmon, Bryce Harper, Aaron Judge, and many more. It’s the latest edition of the Razzball Fantasy Baseball Podcast.

Projections are a crap shoot. I come to this site for the humor and to ask a bunch of “reaffirming” wire questions on marginal players LOL. Then I do what I want anyway. Even Grey’s advice is based on recency….one week it is sell a guy, the next it is keep him. I figure that is human nature. To ask ROS questions on a group of marginal guys is not really fair.
But for every Pineda and McCullers, there are the Keplers and Russells that were ranked much higher than they were by other “experts”. Just have fun and keep it real. No need to kiss ass all the time (unless that is how you are paid…if so, pucker up Gents !)
@JC: haha … I’m completely with you. I’ve actually said almost exactly that a couple podcasts ago. But Grey has taken plenty of lumps with Rougned Odor and Delino Deshields recently (I’ve already brought up both on earlier podcasts), that it is also fair to point out when he gets them right!
@Halp:
True! Fair and balanced….wait, that slogan might be taken already. Keep up the good work. Coffee and Razz every morning!!
@John: haha … im trying! And thanks!
Hey, am I eligible for a date?
@Ralph Lifshitz: We already have one every Saturday morning
@Halp: is having dinner while facetiming with each other a date?
@J-FOH: I’d vote no on that one
@Halp: what if I send the person money to pay for the meal?
@J-FOH: I’m saying in person only
Hey guys,
How do you evaluate trades besides gut feel? Is there a Razzball tool, or do you go somewhere else that has a trade analyzer?
Thanks!
@Steve: I believe Rudy does have a trade analyzer tool. Maybe Grey or Rudy can send you in the right direction. I personally like to research and evaluate trades on my own (numbers, gut feel, etc …), as that is what makes fantasy fun, but I certainly understand getting other opinions too.
Or you can do what JC does above, which is ask Grey for his advice in his comments, and then just do whatever you were originally gonna do anyway :)
i don’t have a tool. i suggest going to the Rest of Season Player Rater that best fits your league format and adding up the $ for each player involved in the trade. Assume you can replace any hitter/pitcher at $1. Generally, you shouldn’t do a trade where the $ is a net negative (e.g., you’re trading away more value than you are getting back)
@Rudy Gamble: Awesome. I knew I remembered Grey analyzing trades using your dollar values.
Was ready to add some Podcasts to check out on my Stitcher app when Grey mentioned he had checked out a few new ones… around the 30 past the hour mark ;)
However, the convo veered into Grey and Ralph’s relationship, then a Geico ad about “Love Advice” hahaha
Anyways, thumbs up with this weeks pod Halp.
@knucks: haha … thanks, kuncks! I think we were both still in vacation mode a bit on this one. I’m curious about the podcasts too …
Halp –
Have yet to listen to the podcast because I’m at work …but I will check it out this evening.
I’m running Dinelson out their against the mighty Cubbies (I like to live dangerously) … the Cubs are still in hangover mode, imo … bad move on my part?
Also, Folty was dropped in my 16 team dynasty and has cleared waivers … do I drop Dinelson for Folty?
Thanks!
@Racehorse: Cool. I haven’t been scared off by starting my guys against the Cubs this year. Lamet is just inherently risky himself with such a short track record, but you picked him up for a reason, so might as well roll with it. I would probably wait to see what he does this start before dropping him. Folty is a solid pickup in your league though too.
Hey guys,
How does someone go about becoming a contributing writer on Razzball? My wife can’t stand my fantasy sports habit, but if I could tell her it was work, she’d actually encourage it.
Best,
Steve
@Steve: That one is definitely not my department.
What you and Ralph have is great, and I don’t want to come between that, but… Ralph just dropped Ian Happ, and Happ’s name is super close to yours… Either way, I’m here for you!
@Grey: hahah … sharing co-hosts can be hard!
Not sure how to rate your phenomenal podcast in itunes, tried to google instruction. Wanna help out, how do i do it?
@Count de Monetball: I’m not great with this kind of stuff myself, ha. I guess you have to have an iTunes account, and then click on the podcast, and then there is a section that says “ratings and reviews” where you can rate it. Don’t see a place to review it, ha. Either way, it’s the thought that counts! Thanks, Count de Monetball!
I feel you on Lackey. I have him in a few leagues and he is killing me.
I’m way too busy texting with Cougs, and Grey’s in-laws to be jealous of what you and Grey have. As Mom and Dad (That’s what I call Mr. and Mrs. Cougs) always say, “what Grey doesn’t know, he can’t annoyingly strike up conversation about”.
Haha… I just wanna chitchat with someone!
@Ralph Lifshitz: haha … damn, you are on that next level shit
@Halp: Grey hates phone chit chat unless its Rudy, who is quite the talker. when is Rudy on the Podcast with you two or is that just too much personality for one cast to contain?
@J-FOH: Any time he wants!
@J-FOH: Grey is impossible to get off the phone, maybe you just need to be interesting Jack…..
Haha
@Ralph Lifshitz: so dumb it down….fuptcha!
@J-FOH: That’s what rappers say when they don’t sell enough albums.
Hi, I am a big fan of the podcast, great job! I have a dynasty trade question for you. 14 team h2h dynasty points league. My Reynaldo Lopez and Cody Bellinger for his Zach Greinke. I am middle of the pack and need something to push me towards the top. Do you take this? Thanks!
@AUFan: Appreciate that, AUFan! That is a definite pass for me. Bellinger is one of the most valuable pieces in a dynasty league right now, and has more value than Greinke on his own. He is also contributing to your team already. I know you are doing it to win now, but being middle of the pack, it probably isn’t enough of a guarantee to put you over the top. I would hold tight.
Where is the link to the FantasyDraft contest today?
@therizzo: There is no contest today/this week, everything just got too late a start because of Memorial Day weekend. But it will be back next week.
Just finished listening after a busy day yesterday. Thanks for the shout out man. I was wondering what happened with your entry, figured you just reserved your spot and got busy. Oh well, I’ll take the karma :) I had a pretty good night last night too, to bad we couldn’t get the link in time. We’ll work on getting that bad boy filled next week for sure though. Keep up the good work Halp!
@MattTruss: Thanks! And much deserved shout out. You dominated last week
