Things are weird in this short season, that’s putting it lightly. One thing I’m finding myself looking at more and more is riding the hot hand. It’s a nine week season, if someone goes on a three week heater, that’s…hold on…carry the one…a third of the season! It’s for reasons such as this I’m giving an extra hard look to David Peterson ($8,300). Peterson is not someone I’d normally give much thought to, but given his hot start (8.5 K/9, 3.86 ERA and 3.03 FIP) I’m intrigued. Peterson might not amount to more than a quad-A player when all is said and done, but he’s lucky in that his opponent tonight is a quad-A team, enter the Miami Marlins. The Marlins will be a target for my DFS pitchers for most of the season, sorry Monte Harrison, I’m not buying the Marlin Hype through eight games. Deploy Peterson, fry those fish and collect those green screens.

Clayton Kershaw, SP: $10,600 – Kershaw will likely be the chalk play in cash games tonight, facing the Giants. Kershaw has completely owned the Giants over his career, posting a 1.74 ERA. He looked great in his first start of the season and should be good to go tonight.
With postponed games and general rotation shuffling, it’s hard to make heads or tails of probable pitchers until right before game time. I can tell you, I’ll be looking at whoever is making the start for the Padres tonight. I’ve seen a couple different names tossed around, but Chris Paddack would be an auto-play for me if he does indeed get the nod. The DBacks are a team I’m looking to pick on early as they have a bottom five team OPS and have just looked off in the early going. Toss in Petco park and I’m all over the Padres starter, whoever that may be.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr., C/1B: $3,000 – Vlad at first base? Weird, right? I don’t know, FanDuel does some funny things. I haven’t been very high on playing Vlad in this spot, but a date with Zack Godley in Fenway Park changes everything. Load him up while he’s still cheap!
Pete Alonso, C/1B: $3,600 – Or for a few dollars more you could go with Alonso who has the platoon advantage against Caleb Smith. I’d be willing to bet on an Alonsbomb!
Keston Hiura, 2B: $3,300 – Hiura seems like he makes every article I’ve written so far, and for good reason. FanDuel still has him listed too cheap for my liking. Tonight he faces DeSclafani at home and should easily outproduce his price.
Jose Peraza, 2B: $2,300 – This one will come down to who the Blue Jays end up throwing out there and if Peraza is leading off. If so, a $2,300 leadoff hitter is not someone to pass up.
Rafael Devers, 3B: $3,400 – It’s looking like it could be Chase Anderson, followed by a slew of bullpen arms for the Jays. Devers has been a bit slow to start, hence his price tag, but some mediocre bullpen arms could be just the cure for a slow start.
Dylan Moore, 3B: $2,700 – Just another hot hand starter here. Moore has been smacking the ball all over and Ryan Castellani gets the start for the Rockies. Who, you might ask? Precisely!
Bo Bichette, SS: $3,200 – I’ll play Bichette all day at this price with a match-up against Godley on tap, I could totally see stacking the top of the Jays order tonight.
Adalberto Mondesi, SS: $2,700 – Mondesi remains my FOMO play at this price point.
Charlie Blackmon, OF: $3,800 – Our BvP special of the night goes to Chazz Noir who has an incredible three homers in eight plate appearances against Nick Margevicius.
J.D. Martinez, OF: $3,700 – It’s looking like I’m stacking the Red Sox vs. Blue Jays game heavy and betting the over!
Whit Merrifield, OF: $3,500 – A close runner-up for BvP special of the night, Whit has three jacks off of Odorizzi who is making his debut tonight. Expect some rust and expect a fourth homer from Whit.
Shohei Ohtani, OF: $3,200 – I feel like his pitching woes have negatively impacted his price point, which I am totally fine with. Ohtani keeps doing something everyday to score us FanDuel points, so keep running him out there until the price adjusts.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
All clear on the weather front, but it is going to feel like 110 degrees in Kansas City, so that’s something.
Doing Lines In Vegas
Of the lines that are available right now, the Dodgers are far and away the biggest favorite at -300. Hence, Kershaw being the chalk play. Currently, COL@SEA features the highest over/under at 9.5 runs. That makes me wish I had found some more Mariners to squeeze in there. The Rockies still have Coors-inflated price tags. The lowest over/under right now is ARI@SD, which makes my Padres pitcher pick seem even better and also puts Merrill Kelly into play.
