Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ is a pitcher that I’m targeting in all of my drafts on Wednesday. While he’s gotten blown up in his last two starts, Happ still has an awesome 29.2% K-rate on the season with just a 6.8% walk-rate. His home run issues won’t be as much of a problem today as he’s away from his home ballpark. Citi Field is a pitcher-friendly venue, and the Mets lineup is a pitcher-friendly lineup against lefties. In fact, the Mets have been worse than any team in baseball this year against left-handed pitching, as they’ve got a pathetic .265 wOBA versus southpaws. This is a matchup that you don’t want to miss out on.

Jameson Taillon, SP: If you’re in a deeper draft and can’t land Happ, I’d look to Taillon. He’s a pretty safe bet at home against the White Sox, and he’s actually the fourth highest ranked pitcher according to the Stream-o-nator. I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.
Manny Machado, IF: *50 Cent voice*: “Manny man, Manny, Manny, Manny, Manny, man.” You’ll get rich or die trying with Machado today. His 9.0 point projection just feels too low, as he’s been one of the best hitters in baseball, and he’s always worth playing when he’s at home. Wait, are you still reading this part in the 50 Cent voice?
Anthony Rizzo, IF: Braves starter Brandon McCarthy has given up 14 earned runs in his last two starts. It won’t be long until we’re calling him Long Island Ducks starter Brandon McCarthy. I’m looking to draft Rizzo and any other Cubs I can get my hands on.
Jedd Gyorko, IF: Gyorko has been playing every day and batting fifth for the Cardinals. That’s a spot where he can drive in lots of RBIs against Lance Lynn, owner of a 7.34 ERA.
Mookie Betts, OF: If you have the first overall pick, go with Mookie. This dude is nuts.
Odubel Herrera, OF: Herrera is on an insane streak where he has reached base at least once in the last 41 games he’s played. He’s got a .360/.430/.561 line and is playing in one of the best offensive environments in the league, Oriole Park, with a great matchup against Andrew Cashner. Herrera also leads the league in bat flips and swag.
Marcell Ozuna, OF: We’re finally seeing some signs of life out of Ozuna, who has an .867 OPS in the last week. Pair him with Gyorko and any other Cardinals hitters for an effective stack.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
We’ve got a lot of games with rain, so keep an eye out for delays or postponements. CHW-PIT, PHI-BAL, TOR-NYM, and TB-KC all look like they will see some rain, while CHC-ATL and NYY-WAS are also at risk tonight. Tread carefully and be ready to modify your draft strategy based on how things play out.
