Rays starter Yonny Chirinos gets a yawn-worthy matchup on Wednesday as he faces the White Sox. In fact, the Rays-Sox matchup on Tuesday was so ugly that there were reports that only 974 people showed up in attendance. Chirinos, however, certainly isn’t boring – in his last outing, he dominated a strong Red Sox lineup in Fenway Park, allowing just three hits over five innings with no walks or earned runs allowed. The 24-year-old tore up triple-A Durham last year, posting an insane 1.63 Deserved Run Average in 141 innings. Expect a nice outing from Chirinos, and target him late in your drafts. Now let’s check out some more picks…

Carlos Carrasco, SP: Carrasco is far-and-away the best starter on Wednesday’s slate as he takes on the anemic Tigers lineup. The Tigers have just a .277 wOBA against right-handed pitching so far this season, and the Indians should easily pick up a win against Jordan Zimmermann. Cookie should be the first pitcher off the boards.
Kevin Gausman, SP: I haven’t lost faith in Gausman after only two starts. In his last start, he only allowed two earned runs in Yankee Stadium, which is impressive in itself, and he generated 11 swinging strikes. The Blue Jays aren’t the high-powered lineup that they once were – they just batted Yangervis Solarte cleanup. You can probably get Gausman pretty late if others are down on him.
Francisco Lindor, IF: Lots of fantasy players are too reactive to a week-and-a-half sample when it comes to elite players. Francisco Lindor is an elite fantasy talent whether he’s hitting .149 or .449 through the first 11 games. He should have a big day against Jordan Zimmermann,
Joey Gallo, IF: Be honest here, had you heard of Jaime Barria before today? Have you ever heard of him before you just read that? I hadn’t heard of him, but he’s starting against Texas on Wednesday. He’s thrown just four starts above double-A, so you should try to grab as many Rangers as you can against him.
Ozzie Albies, IF: Albies has been a boss this season, putting up an .849 OPS with three homers and a steal so far. Last time Atlanta faced Washington starter A.J. Cole, they put up 10 earned runs on him. That was last week. You should get lots of production from Ozzie out of the two-hole.
Giancarlo Stanton, OF: Zig where others zag. The fantasy community feels very low on Stanton right now, which makes for a perfect opportunity to buy in on him. Don’t forget that he was one of the best hitters in all of baseball against lefties last season, and Fenway is nearly just as much of a bandbox as Yankee Stadium.
Mallex Smith, OF: Smith has been nasty over his last two games, racking up six hits and two steals. He faces James Shields on Wednesday, who has managed to strike out just one batter over his two starts this season.
Domingo Santana, OF: Domingo is officially free from a part-time job with Christian Yelich on the DL. He was a fantasy monster in 2017, hitting .278 with 30 homers and 15 steals. Adam Wainwright, his opposition, is two words: washed up.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
It feels like the first night of the year that we’ve finally got clear skies across the board.
Doing Lines In Vegas
I’ll gladly take Arizona at -110 against the Giants with ace Robbie Ray on the mound.
