We have arrived at the final Wednesday post of the season. There are 4 or 5 games left for every team and there are still a good number of playoff races left undecided. There are also some matchups with no postseason implications at all, so picking the right group of players tonight might prove difficult. Let’s see who we can fit into this lineup for tonight’s 9-game slate starting at 7:05pm EST.

Zac Gallen, SP: $9,000 – Who better to have on the mound than your ace in a game with huge playoff implications? The D-Backs got obliterated by the Giants last night and sit only 0.5 games up on the Braves. Arizona needs a win tonight and Gallen is going to provide the juice. He’s had a few decent starts as of late, but did give up 4 to Milwaukee his last time out. His last outing against the Giants he went 6 innings with 0 earned runs and 8 strikeouts for a 31-point game. WE’ll cross our fingers for another 30, but I feel more comfortable saying he’ll get us 20
Simeon Woods Richardson, SP $6,700 – Minnesota is another team in desperate need of a win to avoid disappointment. The positive side is they are playing the Marlins, and should be able to get this win. The other positive is that Woods-Richardson is on the mound and he’s had his fair share of solid starts, especially given his price point. Beware of the short-leash if things get out of hand quick. The Twins need to win and will pull the plug quickly. The hope here is that he makes his way through a weak Marlins lineup to deliver a quality start for the Twins.
Triston Casas, 1B: $4,300 –Since his return from injury, Casas has been pretty good for the Red Sox. He recently had a 3 homerun game against the Twins. The Red Sox face off against Kevin Gausman and the Blue Jays and he has been pitching like an ace in the last month of the season. He left his last start due to back tightness, so we’re going to bank on him not being 100% against one of the hottest hitters in the league the whole second half.
Zack Gelof 2B: $3,400 – Yes, we know the Oakland A’s aren’t playing for anything in terms of postseason. However, this is their final homestand in Oakland. There’s just a feeling in the air that some guys are going to perform in these last few games. Gelof’s price is what makes him so intriguing, especially considering he is no stranger to double-digit performances. I expect him to go out and put on a show in the Coli
Royce Lewis, 3B: $4,600 – We already said the Twins or in do or die mode, and that is going to bring out the best in its stars. For a while, it felt like Royce Lewis homered every single day. He hasn’t homered in his last 15 games. To say his due and his team needs him now more than ever is a massive understatement. Let’s take the flyer on Lewis and hope the lights aren’t too bright for the budding star in Minnesota.
Zach Neto OF: $4,300 – Neto is simply stat-padding at this point and looking to add to his already great numbers from this season. He’s already gotten his 20/20 membership, made his way into 20/30, and might get to 25/30 before we’re done here. I know a great season doesn’t correlate to one-game results, but he’s going to keep producing. Expect a solid performance tonight.
Fernando Tatis Jr, OF: $5,100 – Tatis Jr has been as hot as any player down the stretch. The Dodgers are in the Padres sights for the division lead, and if they’re going to track them down, they’ll need Tatis to do it. Flaherty gave up 2 home runs in 2 of his last 5 starts. The Padres hope he serves up a few tonight, while we hope it’s Tatis that delivers the blow.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
There is ~$4,200 per player left if you roster all of these players above. This should leave plenty of opportunity to fill out the rest of the lineup. I wanted to provide some extra flexibility given the end of the season.
The Mets/Braves game has a serious chance of being rained out. Definitely want to keep an eye on this one.
Doing Lines In Vegas
The highest over/under of the slate is Cardinals/Rockies at 10.5, with the lowest being 4 games at 7.5. The Diamondbacks are the biggest favorites of the slate at -230.
