Oooookay, Tyler Soderstrom. You’re the first A I’m writing up this year. .370 and 4 HR in 7 days is quite the hot streak. This could be something and I’d go get him now. Tyler, yes first name basis, came up as a catcher and was the number one prospect for the Oakland system, which was actually good. Struggled last year and moved off C, bad for the value but good for guys who wrote up corner infield reports. Good contact numbers. Sustainable approach and Statcast full of red. Could be a post hype sleeper that we all thought went the way of the dinosaur. Priority pickup.
No, I’m not done! Soderstrom is the perfect candidate to break out after I look deeper. He has a great prospect ranking as I said before. But my favorite thing is that he came up a catcher and was moved off in order to help the bat progress, and it has since last year when he wasn’t good. He’s it though, talented guy who’s worth the pickup.
Austin Riley had a 3 HR week and yes he’s a great buy low. Let’s add on here. Riley is 17 and Matt Olson is 18 among all hitters for the past week. Would be a solid stack to buy low on.
Enough of the positivity. I’m just done with Christopher Morel. Cub fans will tell you his XBA is .256 and he’s hitting .195. The issue I have is that he wasted his hot streak on some possible bad luck, and I’ve said many times his approach comes and goes, and it’s gone right now, so he’s just a bad player at the moment for fantasy. The 20 HR he’ll end up with won’t be worth the sub .220 batting average packages with it. Sell him, sell a sucker on expected stats, and just run away.
The Brew Crew is probably missing their erstwhile ace from the past few years, but Joey Ortiz is doing his best to stuff their bloody nose with gauze and then give them a sucker to feel better. An OBP around .400 every month will do that for you. In the last month his OPS is sitting at .787 and he’s driving in everyone in sight with 15 RBI. Multiply that by six and that gives you six times 15. Nope not solving it, it’s the summer and Kelder don’t take medicine not on school days. Ortiz is probably better than you think, a high average player with not much pop but is kinda fun. Yeah, get him.
I’m headed to the Rockies the next two weeks so it’ll be July before you read my digital chicken scratches again. Have a great couple weeks and thanks for reading!
