A strain is a tear and a tear is a strain. The arms that are hurting have torn stuff somewhere in there. Don’t let doctors dress thing up with fancy words. Discomfort, swelling, strain all mean something is not in its original state. If one of your pitcher’s arms is hurting you have trouble. Buy some insurance with a well-placed bullpen add.

  • The Jose Leclerc drama has reached a breaking point for manager Chris Woodward. He’s removed Leclerc from the closer’s role and will lean on Shawn Kelley and Chris Martin. Kelley seems to be the preferred add and I would agree slightly. It’s a wide open job, though. These are great spots for cheap darts throws on someone like Jesse Chavez if you have the roster space.
  • Neither the Mets nor the Reds bullpen’s wanted to win their game Tuesday night. Jeurys Familia doesn’t seem right and couldn’t handle a six-out save. Raisel Iglesias took the loss, his fourth, in extra innings, though.
  • Our Ty Buttrey is the fireman fears are being confirmed. I’m not counting him out of the saves equation entirely yet. He could still earn some when the situation is right for Brad Ausmus’ reliever ouija board.
  • Ian Kennedy picked up his second save for the Royals in fairly uneventful fashion. My inkling is still that he’s the preferred route for saves despite an imperfect repertoire for the ninth.
  • Sadly, Nick Burdi’s arm exploded last time he pitched. He was having a terrific season. After prior arm trouble, he’s definitely a drop.
  • Mychal Givens has notched two straight saves for Baltimore. The ridiculous bullpen experiment Orioles manager Brandon Hyde had been conducting is hopefully at its conclusion.

Luke Jackson the next guy up for Atlanta?

Looks that way, but I’m not all that confident he’s the guy. Plus Minter worked a clean inning in a non-save situation yesterday.

Is Melancon actually the next up in SF or is it Moronta?

Do you like Jeffress to eventually get holds and/or saves in MIL? Or is he worth abandoning for Stephenson for the K’s?

My league has both Holds & Saves as separate categories. Kinda feels like a wasted roster spot on Jeffress right now.

I’d give Jeffres some time to regain the feel for his sinker. It’s not like Stephenson is racking up holds.

16 team keeper league, keep 12 $260 budget.

My Lindor ($7) for his Scherzer ($35), Giles ($20), E. Escobar ($20) I might be able to squeeze him for R. Ray ($35) or Darvish ($26).

My current staff: Bauer ($23), Buehler ($16), German ($17), Musgrove ($20)

Should I take the deal? Hurts losing Lindor but this is a haul.

    Thanks!

Is it a haul? Scherzer has been fairly un-Scherzer like, Giles could blow up at any time, and Escobar is a decent player but $20 feels expensive. That’s all before considering your $7 steal on Lindor. Unless you feel the need to add the pitching I’d pass.

Why would anyone trade Lindor ? For that matter, who would trade Max. Max has been unScherzer like (I drafted him 1st round in 2 drafts), but even with his pedestrian 1st 5 weeks, 1 of my take aways from the 1st 1/5 of the season, imo, is that Max and Bauer are my 2 favorite starters due to their toughness. Would love both of these guys on my team. They’re on 1 of my teams, which I prefer over Max/Snell. Rays hurried Snell back and I hope he’s okay.

    This Tampa situation in infuriating.

If your closers are Yates, Hand, Hader, Smith, and Alvarado, and you are 1st in saves by 11 saves in a roto, are you holding Alvarado?

    • Roto-Wan

Absolutely. Hand and Smith could get traded and Jeffress could poach Hader.

Who would you rather have in a Saves league that’s also a keeper league — Ty Buttrey or Ian Kennedy?

    • Roto-Wan

Buttrey by far for keeper value.

    14-team 5×5 (saves+holds) league question

I have Leclerc on the bench and starting Buttrey and Diego Castillo.

Here is what is available. Any add/drops jump out at ya?

Kolarek, Gant, Wingenter, Claudio, Watson, A.Miller, Brebbia, A.Morgan, Romo, Elias, Minter, Swarzak, I.Kennedy, K.Herrera, and Joe Jimenez

I’d say Swarzak, Elias, Miller, and Kennedy all have a chance for saves.

    Hey Roto-Wan,
Looking to maximize my RPs. Traded Yates for P.Corbin last month and have been suffering a bit for saves ever since. Have Iglesias, Neris, Alvarado and Elias. Wondering whether to drop Elias for a TB handcuff in D.Castillo or by grabbing Swarzak, Barnes, A.Miller

    • Roto-Wan

      Roto-Wan says:

I have the TB pairing a few places and it’s nice (when Pagan isn’t poaching one).

      • dontbichetteme says:
        (link)

So you would drop Elias to grab Castillo? I do realize that closers are a pretty fluid position.

Yeah, Castillo will at least get Ks when he’s not in the ninth.
