Hello Razzball faithful. Welcome to another Wednesday edition of SAGNOF. This will be my last article of the season as I am traveling next week and the regular season comes to a close in just 12 days. (Reminder to get to those IP limits).
I hope y’all enjoyed my brief glimpses into Stolen Base prognostication over the course of this MLB season. God willing, we’ll all meet again in Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money. I meant to say I hope to chat with you all again if there’s baseball in 2027.
To finish up, we’re gonna look at a possible stolen base pickup to close out the year. That would be Max Clark, current everyday Center Fielder for the Tigers.
Clark was drafted third overall by the Tigers out of High School in 2023. He made an immediate impact on the lineup, going 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI in his debut on July 31st. Prior to his call-up, he was hitting .276 with 11 Home Runs, 42 RBIs, 50 walks, and 21 stolen bases in 90 games for the Toledo Mud Hens.
He didn’t run at all really to start his major league campaign, but has turned it on now in September, ripping off four steals in twelve games.
Clark is getting a good look at MLB arms right now, and his first look has his K-rate up above 20% and his walk rate sitting at 9%, which are respectable numbers. I’d say those will only get better, as in the minors in 2025 his walk rate exceeded his K-rate, with both settling around 16%.
Sprint Speed looks good, if not elite, at 28.6 Ft/Sec. That puts him right around 100th in MLB. He knows how to steal bases, though, and gets a great jump. This year in the minors, he was 21 for 23, and it’s been similar every other year on the farm. In 2025 he was 19 for 21, 2024 was 29 for 33, and 2023 he was 5 for 6 in his debut.
Clark will be a much bigger play in drafts for 2027, but if you need a stolen base or two on the way to the finish line next weekend, you could do worse than Max Clark.
