The Tout Wars Draft & Hold comes to its dramatic conclusion (part 1 & part 2). Here’s the second half of my draft grouped into buckets.
Always More Pitching – Pound pitching every other round when you can. This group leaves me with little depth out of the gate, I’m afraid *gulps in spring training*.
- Jeffrey Springs (382), Michael McGreevy (442), Lucas Giolito (459), Zack Littell (502), Ben Brown (592), Logan Allen (609), Aaron Civale (652)
The Prospects – I’d like to have more prospects in the chamber, but I chose to pay for players with a current job more often than not. Miller was one guy to be reasonably priced with a path should the Phillies get impatient or trade some infielders. The other guys are pitching prospects with a chance to join rotations later this year.
- Aidan Miller (472), Brody Hopkins (682), David Davalillo (712)
The Utils – These fellas cover me everywhere but catcher. You need a few jigsaw pieces when there’re no waivers.
- Mauricio Dubon (519), Blaze Alexander (532), Luke Raley (562)
RP Darts – Finding saves is the trickiest part of Draft & Hold. Each of these RPs has some skill with a lower barrier to the ninth.
- Lucas Erceg (489), Phil Maton (549), Cole Henry (639), Jimmy Herget (742)
Retreads – Better late than never for some players. Can any catch some lightning in a bottle?
- Zack Gelof (622), Esteury Ruiz (669), Christian Encarnacion-Strand (699), Nolan Jones (729)
I Need More Than One Catcher?!?! – Finding myself unwilling to pay for the going freight for second or third-rate catchers, I’ve resorted to scrapping the bottom of the barrel.
- Danny Jansen (412), Connor Wong (579)
I ended up with 27 hitters and 23 pitchers (14 SPs/7Rps). That was my goal split. You can see the full draft board here. The team may be a tad on the boring side, but it should perform above average across the board. I’ll enjoy seeing how that stacks up over the next 26 weeks.
