It’s Day 327 of the Quarantine and I wrote my wife a letter from my isolation. It read as follows, “I ordered sour cream and onion Funyuns, not bunions cream! Send this f**king garbage sh*t back, my dearest love!” A mere five quarantine days later, she replied, “Eat a D, you swamp-ass motherf**ker!” So, things are good here. We’re building a bridge of communication during our time trapped together in a 1,200-square-foot hellhole. We took the Buzzfeed quiz, “Will Your Marriage Last Through The Quarantine,” and our grade was “Ross-Rachel on a break, if their break meant they could only stay separated by about 50 feet.” So, with this series, I will take a look around the 2020 fantasy baseball rankings to see if there’s any differences now that we might only play a 100-game season. Projections have been updated on all my positional rankings to assume a 100-game season. This is using the top 20 outfielders for 2020 fantasy baseball as our guide. Anyway, here’s thoughts on the top 20 outfielders for 2020 fantasy baseball with the new Corona timeline:
9. George Springer – My new projections for him are 66/18/51/.281/3 in 340 ABs. That makes me scrunch my nose like Larry David. I mean… *still scrunching my nose*…I guess that’s good. For another POV, Steamer hitter projections for him: 72/22/57/.274/5 in 359 ABs. That’s actually better. Okay, not actually actually, it’s obviously better in every conceivable way except average, and that’s fickle. So, because of Steamer’s optimism, I didn’t change my rankings on Springer, but I strongly considered it, which kinda sucks because I do own him already. I know, four homers, a few runs, etc. doesn’t seem like a big difference, but if you take a gander through the projections, everyone is crazy close, jammed together. Those few extra stats could matter. Also, anecdotally, Springer is the type who could come out, get blazing hot for a month and hit 12 homers, which in this season would carry him to a home run title. Speaking of which, without further interruption and no more interjections, I bring you, the two Yankees outfielders.
18. Giancarlo Stanton – Every time I’m out, Giancarlo (in my dreams) pulls me back in, then we do a game I call, Hide The Massage Oils The Ladies Are Returning From Brunch. Ah, ‘member brunch? Every wife loves to make brunch plans for their husband. Man is that one thing I’m not missing. I wake up every weekend with absolutely no plans and it’s an absolute joy! But I also wake up every weekday with no plans and that gets to be tricky. Just today I woke and thought what a beautiful weekday or maybe weekend. Any hoo! Stanton, my novio. Giancarlo, the father of my imaginary daughter Giancarla. Michael Stanton and Giancarlo Stanton, both have IL in their names. Sigh, but, and this is a J. Lo-sized but, in 100 games, Giancarlo can do absolute work. He’s currently the number one guy on the Steamer Hitter Projections for homers in a shortened season and I don’t doubt that it’s possible. There are, maybe, ten guys who could hit 30 homers in only 100 games. Let’s see, Trout, Alonso, Yordan, Giancarlo, Judge, okay, you can think on the other five. And of those ten guys who can hit 30 homers, there might only be two realistic chances. Trout will invariably miss 15 games and fall short; Yordan will be rested in NL parks–Okay, I’m just trying to get Alonso to be the only real 30-homer threat in 100 games, but Giancarlo is too and I moved him up in the top 20 outfielders for 2020 fantasy baseball along with…
19. Aaron Judge – Before you start talking about how my love for Giancarlo has blinded me, and I’m only moving him up because I own him and I’m using 2020 hindsight in 2020 and yadda-blabbity-bloo! I get it. But I don’t own Judge anywhere, but could now see it. Still think he might take all the way until July 1st to be healthy and, if that’s the first game of the season, then all the better. Judge could also hit 10 homers per month in a three-month season and get 30 homers (I do math good). With all of the players’ stats scrunched together like Larry David’s face when he sees something very meh as illustrated in the Springer blurb, Judge or anyone who could win a category like homers in a shortened season should be coveted like seeing any positive baseball content during a freakin’ pandemic!
