The man who looks like the man from Man Vs. Food’s father, Lance Berkman, is on a ginormous Kaiser roll. Speaking of pastry, it’s not a coincidence that Lance Berkman’s initials are LB. When he got to St. Louis, he asked the cabbie where the second arch is and why isn’t it painted gold. If you think you have 2010 Konerko, you might. But you also might have the 2011 Berkman, which isn’t nearly the player the 2006 Berkman was. For Berkman, this is either a great month or it’s the beginning of a great year. When dealing with a player on the downside of his career, I invariably go with the former, if the former is the first one where I think it’s just a great month. At least when he was on the Astros, they could just play him at 1B so he didn’t injure himself in the OF. It’ll take an apocalyptic event for that to happen in St. Louis. I’d see if I could get someone to overpay believing this is the beginning of the beginning not the beginning of the end. Anyway, here’s some more players to buy or sell this week in fantasy baseball:
BUY
Ryan Theriot – He’s like a non-Aybar, Erick Aybar.
Danny Espinosa – You know I kept getting questions about Espinosa in the comments and I never put it together that he wasn’t owned in that many leagues. In ESPN leagues, he’s only owned in 13% of leagues? Huh? He’s going to be a top 12 2nd baseman. Sure, that’s like being the soberest Irishman, but still. Here’s a refresher on my Espinosa fantasy. I wrote that post in a hammock in Pago Pago and a homing pigeon delivered it back to Razzball HQ.
Darwin Barney – I have a confession to make. The middle infidel who loves dinosaurs is on two of my teams. So far, those teams aren’t doing well, but there ya go.
Jed Lowrie – You know what P. Diddy & Dirty Money would say about Jed, “‘Ain’t No Stopping Us Now,’ that’s Lowrie’s song.”
Aaron Harang – Know what I like a whole lot? Chilled glasses. And Hodgepadres.
Tyson Ross – I’ll know how deep the leagues are that should grab him after today’s start. “To be continued…” as said by Vincent Price.
Alexi Ogando – Yes, the start in The House They Built Next To The House Ruth Built wasn’t pretty, but you gotta give him a little more leash than that.
Justin Masterson – I like Masterson. You can search the site for info on him. On sorta his last name’s subject, what do people think of a Razzball t-shirt that reads, “Fantasy Baseball, Something To Do Between Masturbation Sessions?”
Scott Baker – Rudy said earlier today he’d prefer Baker to Liriano. That hurts me soul to read, Lupe Fiasco. But if you’re eating what Rudy’s cooking…. Or is that baking?
Matt Capps – “He ain’t no handcuff, he’s the hand closer, essa.” Said a’la Edward James Olmos. Not entirely sure why Edward James Olmos is saying that but my family is in town for the holiday and they’re making me a little daffy.
Mitchell Boggs – After Boggs’ save, he rode a horse around Yankee Stadium and ate fried chicken out of Margo Adams’ bosom… You know, I think I’m clicking on the wrong Wikipedia page– I am! Okay, Mitchell Boggs got the save and could get more. Worth the pick up but there’s no guarantee he’s going to be the go-to guy. We’re dealing with La Russa, after all.
Jon Rauch – SAGNOF!
Frank Francisco – SAGNOF2!
Kyle Farnsworth – Doing pretty well and is owned in only 41% of ESPN leagues, but since 60% ESPN leagues are already abandoned that’s 101% of leagues owning Farnsworth, so surely he’s taken in your league. And don’t call me, Shirley.
David Freese – Liked him last week and this week it’s just 7 days later, which sounds like lyrics for a country song.
Mark Trumbo – Well, you can get on board until Kendrys returns, right?
Danny Valencia – Sounds like the name of a dancer on Dancing with the Stars that gets stucked with Loni Anderson or somebody. “Valencia just roped a single down the line and… What’s this? He’s salsa dancing to first. Wow!” Valencia’s kinda bleh but he’s currently hitting.
Jeff Francoeur – I liked our Tuesday afternoon post that talked about Frenchy. Wasn’t bad, right? (I also liked Monday, Wednesday and Thursday’s.) But I feel like mentioning Jeff not simply because he’s hit a few Freedom Flies so far this year, but because there was something between the lines at that post that had to do with having Frenchy for the whole season. Talking about what he’s going to do all year. That’s cool, I get it, but let’s not forget he’s a fifth outfielder. Get on board now and worry about that rest of the season shizz later. If you get a solid 2 weeks from him then someone better comes along, what Frenchy does in August doesn’t matter. And, for what it’s Wuertz, the French take August off. (And you thought I couldn’t write hundred words about Frenchy… Ha!)
Matt Joyce – Hitting almost .500 over the last week. Now you’re getting your acclaims, Joyce.
Jerry Sands – Like Rudy this morning, I too thought Jerry was black. Who knew he was like the Caribbean and white Sands? Any the hoo! I just went over my Sands fantasy. I wrote it while standing on the Las Vegas Strip smacking escort flyers into my hand.
Peter Bourjos – Similarly to Espinosa, sometimes I think people read Razzball every day and retain all this shizz, so when I get questions about Bourjos it confuses me. Do I like him? Since January.
SELL
Ike Davis – I’m not saying to drop him (well, in some leagues maybe), but I’d definitely look to see if I could get anything in a trade for him after last night’s homer.
Sean Rodriguez – Yeah, I pushed him on people in the preseason, but garbage calls on Tuesday to have Sean-Rod picked up.
Alex Gordon – Our on-again, off-again romance lasted for five years (and felt like 45 years, as that sentence seemed to read) and as soon as he started to show signs that he liked me, I want no part of him. I’m such a girl! His walk rate is at 3.8%, K-rate is near 20%, his BABIP is at .426, he’s hitting well but his average will plummet to .275 at some point. When he’s hitting .275 and has 17 homer power and 12 steal speed, he won’t look half as pretty. I wouldn’t sell him for a Nicki Minaj record, but I would explore my trade options.

who would you own between
Ryan Roberts
Ben Francisco
Raburn
Hey Grey…
How much of a $100 FAAB would you bid on Lackey in a 10 team 5×5 AL only league?
Should I pickup Bourjos?
I keed, I keed…
“Fantasy Baseball, Something To Do Between Masturbation Sessions?”
I’m still mad I haven’t heard the Matthew Berry audio yet.
Hey Grey, i thought i struck fantasy gold 2 years ago in my dynasty league by picking up mark reynolds for a buck. I sat through last year and said that this year would be better….it’s not! Should i just give up on him, only options out there are ryan roberts, casey blake, encarnecion, and betemit, in a 5xh h2h cats 16 team.
I was offered J.Reyes for Rasums.
Why is it taking me so long to hit accept. Any thoughts?
Re-posting, but can we officially start calling Trumbo the Rusty Trumbone?
Would Baker be an add over either Edinson Volquez or Colby Lewis?
@ artie–click accept–SS is so weak. I just traded Kyle McClellen, Billy Butler, and Jorge De la Rosa for John Danks, Carlos Quentin, and Yovani Gallardo. How’d I do?
@Wiley:
Not sure, but I sure like Baker as a bounce back this year.
Re- David Freese: more like the lyrics of a Rebecca Black song.
Interesting…assuming Aaron Hill goes on the DL, Espinosa or a Gordon Beckham (free agent who was dropped for either Lowrie or Polanco) in a H2H points 14-team league? 1 pt single, 4 pt HR, et-cet-ra.
@artie because you’re trying to stockpile 2014 all-stars? accept!
So basically what you’re saying is, deal Berkman and Gordon for Espinosa and Bourjos…I’m on board! Ok, not really, but I’ve been trying to deal the two of them for about a week and I’ve gotten a grand total of ZERO takers. No one believes.
Doh, just dropped Theriot today to pick up Bartlett. Are they a coin flip or should I go back to Theriot?
I was hoping to get a SB or two out of Bartlett this weekend….
Jair Jurrjens or Scott Baker? They both had great starts..
QS instead of W’s in our league.
I need a 2B. Give up Greinke or Uggla?
@Wilsonian: nevermind…right after I typed that, someone just accepted Berkman/Santana (the smooth one) for Dunn. I have Wieters, so Santana was excess. Now I need an SP…who do I grab?
Masterson, Red Scare McCarthy, Correia, Ogando, Nolasco, Narveson, Baker, Shields, Kuroda, Kennedy
Or do I leave it an open spot for a spot starter?
10 teamer, Baker over J-Zimm, Bumgarner, or DLR?
Rest of my staff is Kershaw, Gollardo, G.Gonzalez, Hamels, & Kuroda
Baker over Liriano…I don’t approve.
Grey, I notice a lot of people asking for trade advice that involves 2 for 1, or 3 for 2 ect…You must remind people that the best player in an uneven exchange wins the trade 98.6% of the time.
Also, too many people seem to forget there is loads of pitching available, but solid bats are drying up like a hooker’s tulip on Easter sunday.
Why aren’t you returning my voicemails?
Arencibia or Miguel Montero?
In follow up: Darwin Barney is available as well so Bartlett, Theriot or Barney?
12 team, h2h, yadda x 3.
Senor Gris –
Jordan Walden is on waivers in my league. I need a closer, and Walden may be the best waiver fodder I can expect for 25 save potential. My only flexibility right now though to get him is to drop an SP.
Which SP would you drop:
Ricky Romero
Morrow
Latos
I have a pending 2-for-1 deal, too, so a spot will open on Monday and I could replace an SP from waivers.
I think Im looking at Ricky Ro.
Gracias.
Derrek Lee or Freddie Freeman for 2011? Both would be reserves/injury replacements.
10 team, mixed, 6×6 (5×5 plus .OPS and Apps)
Apologize for the repost. Thanks.
@Stophe:
I’d drop Morrow of those three.
Greinke had a successful rehab start at single A this week and also had 6 points and 3 assists in a pick-up game at the playground next to the field afterword. He’s on the mend!
@Stophe:
Dude grab Walden. But can you not drop some schmo middle reliever?
on sunday, start beachy @ SF? start maholm vs WAS?
Should I take an offer Papelbon for Morneau at this point?
Which one do I sit?
A. Jones v. CC
Willingham v. Pinieda
D. Espinosa v. Karstens
Thanks and Happy Easter.
Really Grey? Resorting to negative stereotypes???
Smoak, Freeman, Gaby, or Trumbo to replace Pena while he continues to beat the ever-loving shizz out of air with his bat?
Looking to leverage Weaver now while he seems invicible. Is Mauer + Greinke a decent haul? Current C is Napoli, but I’m confident I can move him later. Thanks.
There is a much better chance for Masterson having a bad year with 4.50+ ERA than for Berkman having a bad year. Masterson’s K/BB totals from start to start are too wonky. He strikes out 9 guys in one start, while striking out 0 in the next. That’s Hochevar territory.
Berkman has another good year or two before he drops off completely. He was pretty healthy his whole career until the last couple of years. I doubt he’s anywhere as close to being as injury prone as Chipper, and look at the years Chipper was able to have in 07′ and ’08, when he was around Berkman’s current age. He’s not fat. He’s just frumpy like a ninja turtle.
@artie:
Hey artie, thanks.
Yes, I have some middle relief guys but it’s a 6X6 league that includes holds. I have Chapman, Gregerson and Bard for that role. I’m loathe to go down to 2 for the category since I think that loses it most weeks and then you may as well punt altogether. I know Holds Aint Got No Face (HAGNOF?), but I like those three very much.
Meanwhile, many decent starters are available, so I’m not sure I’d miss Ricky Ro all that much (Garza, Dan Hudson, Danks, Brett Myers, for example, are all available, and maybe RickyRo himself slips through waivers).
@Eric:
Thanks Eric – it’s close I agree. But while both RickyRo and Morrow might have some WHIP issues, Morrow clearly has the K edge, doncha think?
@Nuke LaDouche:
Gaby Sanchez
@Stophe: Morrow is also coming off the DL. Romero is not.
Drop Yunel Escobar or Ryan Raburn for Espinosa?
Leading the pack early on in a 12 teamer. Solid but not great across the board but dominant in steals. Can I lose an OF for either Baker or Lilly? Thinking of dumping Pagan and his .128/0/2/2/1 last two weeks but the guys in front of him aren’t exactly sure things…Fuld, Trumbo and Gomes.
Lose who for who?
@Dr. Stats: “…hooker’s tulip on Easter sunday.”
Give this man a job.
@Principal Blackman: Also, just fyi. It’s an h2h points league and raburns k’s are killing almost all of his value (-1 point for each k).
@ Grey: Travis Snider, Jerry Sands, or Danny Espinosa? To fill a utility/bench roll on my team.
Would I be giving up too much if I offered in 10-team H2H:
Jay Bruce, Sizemore, Broxton, and Burnett for Crawford, Thornton, and Greinke?
Anyone starting Bumgarner or Volquez today?
Just to be clear…
1. you’re telling me to drop Sean-Rod and replace him with Darwin Barney
2. you’re telling me that you may possibly make the greatest T-shirt ever that I will purchase immediately when it becomes available
3. you’re telling me that you still haven’t watched the latest RW Vegas
BONUS ROUND! – Andres Torres or LoMo, who would you rather be carrying?
I need a backup 3rd baseman to ARam.
Freese is out there but so is Chipper “The Glass Slippee” Jones. Do I dare pick up Mr. Breakable over Freese or will hell freeze over first?
Also, picked up Gordon in week 1 and have been riding him like a bucking bronco so far. I know you think he’ll throw me off soon. I have been offered David Ortiz for him? Do I take it and count my blessings?
Three week reader, first time poster, love the site. Late to the party on purpose, easier to take advantage of the drunks that way. With respect to Darwin Barney (Mom always said I should be respectful and Aretha’s a much more talented Franklin than Ryan is (Ben might be better than her, but I digress.).), I believe purple dinosaurs are an evolutionary dead-end. Of course, as I’ve grown older, I find my opinions much less black and white than Grey’s are, so I could be wrong.
I have too many OFs, and no room for players to fill in for Hill, slumping schmohawks, etc. Who, if any, should I drop? Markakis, Jones, Bay (on DL), and Sizemore (my others are McCutchen, Tabata, Rasmus, Krispie). Thanks!
“sometimes I think people read Razzball every day and retain all this shizz”
I read it every day but I have short term memory loss when it comes to Razzball. That’s what the search box is for, baby.
Wait, what is the search box for? Damn it.
FYI…Pena owners…his BABIP is @ .290…so no reason for his .188 BA to rise much…
Is Gardner droppable in a 12-teamer or is he just working some shizz out right now?
12-team roto 4-player keeper league
My team needs help w/ AVG
How would you rank these MI: Brignac, Jose Lopez, Theriot, Barney
Valencia or Headley?
And apparently it’s Wheel ‘N’ Deal Friday in my league. After I acquired Dunn, I got offered Pineda for Lyon. I have Soria, K-Rod, Walden, Lyon, and Farsnworth. What do you think in my 8 Teamer?
Been offered Ryan Zimmerman for Brett Anderson and Pedro Alvarez? Take it all the way? Seems somewhat obvious but Zimmerman’s recurring DTD injuries and Brett Anderson’s potential Cy Young ability have me paralyzed with indecision.
What do you think, Grey?
Berkman + McLellan for Bumgarner + Andrus
@Wilsonian:
I love me some Pineda, Lyon and the Stros suck.
@jeffjam:
It is McClellan of course which by the way my side.
I’ve been trying to work out a Dunn trade with this guy for a week. Here’s the latest, please advise:
Krispie + DLR vs. Dunn + Baker
I feel like I can give up Chris Young as I’ve got Tabata, Gardner, Dread Pirate, Vlad, Jay Bruce.
Besides De La Rosa, my pitching consists of Weaver, Tim Hudson, Daniel Hudson, CJ Wilson, Liriano, Jhoulys, Beachy, Kennedy, Narveson.
Thanks in advance.
Thoughts on dealing away Narveson to acquire Hudson?
Daniel Hudson
Rank these 2B: Dinosaur, Herrera, Raburn…
Drop Jeter for Espinosa?
wb Grey! Would you start Hellickson @ Toronto? Third in Ks but next to last in WHIP with Hellickson, Liriano and Scherzer. Thanks!
Would you do Putz for Latos? I’m worried Latos isn’t healthy.
@Shirley: Shirley, you can’t be serious.
Activate Bay? OF are Braun, Victorino, Hunter, Young, Sands, David Murphy.
WWGD?
@Mzyptlk: I wouldn’t. Yanks lineup is so good and I don’t think Jeter is done yet.
@Howard: I would start Hellickson. He hasn’t been terrible yet and could still be good.
@RonWashington’sStache: I might keep Narveson.
@Casey Blake’s Beard: If you need the power I’d do it. I like DLR more than Baker but they’re about the same.
@GTS: Who is Dinosaur? I like Raburn more than Herrera assuming Raburn plays consistently.
Need a backup 2nd sacker.
Isn’t the Angel i’s Izturis the shizz rather than Theriot long term?
Plus the I-man is good to play 3b, 2b or SS while T-man is good at 2nd and SS.
Isn’t this pretty black and white, Grey?
Your thoughts please, waiver wire deadline approaches.
@Flunkie: I’d activate Bay and bench Sands.
@ Grey :
a) you should drive that tyson ross before recommending others “buy” .
am guessing about 59 pitches/start .
b) great idea for for the t-shirt .
or , how about …. “my other t-shirt belongs to a pedophile” ?
c)
There is something pretty galling about seeing your Kemp strand those runners only for them to be driven in by the schmohawks coming along behind.
pay attention frank kim Dinosaur is Darwin Barney
Who do you like for the rest of the year: Capps or Axford?
Need a replacement in the UTIL spot for Logan Morrison. Here are the front-runners, including several from today’s Buy list:
Travis Snider
Ben Francisco
Sam Fuld
Jeff Francoeur
Matt Joyce
Ryan Roberts
Mark Trumbo
Jerry Sands
My team is already speed heavy, so power upside is desirable…
Thanks!
@The Dude: Grey would say Snider.
@The Dude: @The Dude: Agree. Snider, Sands
GREY took your uribe recomendation 2 days ago,playing nicely thank you
Some foo just dropped Dan Hudson and Bumgarner… which of them still has the more promising future? Happy Holidays dude.
Why so down on Ike Davis? He’s drawing walks and is doing fine against lefties. Chipper/Larry said that he hasn’t heard a ball coming off a bat as authoritatively as he has off of of Davis’ in many a year (and Chipper has a few logged in).
Seems that .275 with 20 homers is the FLOOR with Ike, and the ceiling is much higher – .290, 30 dingers, .360+ OBP. Not bad for a guy you roster as a corner/util, no?
I’d just enjoy the ride for a 20th round or later pick…..
I don’t like the advice today. Grey nowhere to be found in the commentary and also missing in action a couple of days.
I would trade for Sands normally off the buy-sell recommendation (as he’s definitely available in my NL only), but I’m worried Grey hasn’t seen the abominable 2-14 (.142) start for Sands which might send him packing pretty quickly here.
Hoping all is well with Grey, and I am overreacting on multiple counts. Thoughts?
@shibboleth: Grey’s warned us against Latos and Bumgarner (see Verducci Effect). Probably D. Hudson for his k-upside…
Grey, trade question. 11 team 5×5 roto. Dude is offering me Morneau/Morales plus somebody to get Crawford.
This is my team:
C: Posada
1B: Konerko
2B: Weeks
3B: Rolen
SS: Theriot
MI: Kelly Johnson
CI: Ike Davis
OF: Crawford
OF: Werth
OF: Stanton
OF: Gordon
OF: Adam Jones
UTIL: Vlad
BN: Zimmerman
BN: Pena
BN: Gardner
DL: Hamilton
P: Kershaw
P: Haren
P: Gallardo
P: Billingsley
P: Kuroda
P: Jaime Garcia
P: Fuentes
P: Burnett
P: Farnsworth
I feel overloaded on pitching, so I was thinking of offering Crawford/Haren to get Morneau/Hanley/Hellickson. Is that a good trade?
Hughes or Narveson?
grey,elsbury, bourn or pierre
Morneau out again. Not that it really counts as news.
Al-Ram benched too.
@Steve: man,he is a class act,i really hate seeing this happen to him,
I just got offered Kinsler and Byrd for Alex Gordon.
Gotta do that, right?
@Steve: Do it now before he retracts the offer! Unless you don’t need a 2B at all / or Kinsler is seriously injured but we don’t know it yet (which with Kinsler, may also be the case)
@Steve: Not many situations where you wouldn’t. Pull the trigger.
@Nomar Mr. Nice Guy: Funny you should say that. It’s a league that I set up by mistake when I was setting up an RCL this year and it drafted without me even knowing about it.
I just checked the team and I have Uggla at 2nd and Phillips at MI, so maybe I don’t have room.
@Steve: @Nomar Mr. Nice Guy: I’d probably do it anyway. That means someone needs a 2b. If you have needs somewhere else and nothing is really on the line, it’ll be an interesting experiment at the very least.
@Grey: which two do you like the most as a possible Hill replacement if he goes on the DL? 12 team, 5 x 5 roto. theriot, barney, o hudson, danny murphy or freddy sanchez? thanks.
@Steve: You might be able to counter with Gordon & Uggla/Phillips for Kinsler and his #2 or #3 OF. I think you’d be upgrading at both OF and 2B.
I trade Gordon and B. Roberts for Phillips, good trade?
@Steve B: Assuming any kind of OF depth, definitely.
@Black Beard: @Nomar Mr. Nice Guy: I accepted the original offer and then offered him Uggla for Rasmus.
Doubt he’ll do it, but it’s a total throwaway league (that I’m leading!), so it’s no biggie either way.
@Black Beard yeah i have Gordon on the bench anyways I’m in a 10 team
What do you guys think about Quentin and Castro for CC? Would slightly hamstring my pitching.
@Black Beard: There’s plenty of good pitching out there. Not so much good hitting. Do it.
@birrrdy: As I said in the post, my family’s in town for the holiday. I will get to all the comments when I get a chance as I always do.
Jerry Sands, you dern ticker tease! Only Dodger starter without a hit.
@Gip: Drying up quicker than a hooker’s tulip on Easter Sunday.
Sorry, I love that line.
@Grey: Happy “insert holiday of correct religion” Grey, Rudy, and all razzballers!
Who wins in this trade in a vacuum or is it even? Adrian Gonzalez for Hamels/Soria
Thanks!
@Pooch: I’d keep Adrian. It’s harder to find a top notch 1B than a good starter and closer. Plus Soria’s peripherals don’t look good, I don’t trust him this season.
@Black Beard: If you have good MI’s already then I’d do it. But I think Castro is going to end up a top 5 SS. Close call.
@Black Beard: Narverson. Isn’t Hughes on the Disgraceful List?
Sheesh, Kemp stranded a few. Guy’s a stud but I need those RBIs today!
@AL KOHOLIC: @Poon Tycoon:
Rank the following:
Masterson
Baker
Narveson
Beachy
@Pooch:Sorry forgot one. What about Anderson+Soria or J. Sanchez+Soria for Dunn?
@Pooch: I’d do Sanchez + Soria for Dunn.
@Frank Kim: As an even trade? or which would you rather have?
Narveson or McCarthy? Happy holiday.
@MattW: i really dont crunch numbers enough on pitchers to rank them,ive got the hots for beachy and own him,and narveson has impressed and helped me,
@Pooch: I’d rather have Dunn than Sanchez+Soria. In general I’d trade Soria, don’t like how his numbers have looked this season. But I’m less inclined to trade Anderson even if he might get hurt again.
Bautista D, T, and HR so far.
Anyone still a Bautista doubter?
Well, he only has 8 RBI.
Anibal no-hitter thru 7
@VinWins:
Damn it, Vin!
You’re not supposed to say these things!
@Eddy: I’m ignorant. Plus I believe it is only a jinx if you have a vested interest. I hope he does it, though.
Anibal’s no-hitter includes a run charged to his side. That shizz don’t count in my book.
@aj: Roberts for now.
@junior: $2
@freak: Sorry
@Westly: I’d hold.
@artie: No idea.
@PureBwa: Ha
@Wiley: Eh… Yeah, if you’re Rudy.
@Eddy: Ha!
@nyphilsphan: Beckham
@KeeblerMN: Coin flip.
@Nomar Mr. Nice Guy: Baker
@GTS: Sure
@Wilsonian: Kuroda
@timSTi: Eh
@Dr. Stats: True
@Shirley: Ha!
@Ian: Montero
@KeeblerMN: Theriot
@Stophe: Romero
@KayCee: Freeman
@trick dad: Yes and sure.
@Jake: I wouldn’t.
@Salty Balty: Sorry too late.
@Nuke LaDouche: Trumbo
@RL: Eh
@Principal Blackman: Raburn
@knighttown: Pagan for Lilly.
@Chicago Mike: Espinosa
@nick m.: It’s fair.
@Awesomus Maximus: Ha and yup.
@Gip: I’d hold. I’d take Gordon.
@Scott Z: Welcome!
@bogbert: Bay
@ChrisV82: Ha!
@anon: I’d hold.
@Child Please: Theirot, Brignac…
@Gavin: Valencia
@Wilsonian: Sounds fair.
@JohnnyFive: I’d take Zimmerman, but it could backfire.
@jeffjam: Andrus
@Casey Blake’s Beard: Dunn side.
@RonWashington’sStache: I’d want Hudson.
@GTS: Herrera, Darwin…
@Mzyptlk: No
@Frank Kim: I’m worried too. But that trade is fair for the risk.
@Flunkie: Agree with Frank.
@Gip: Eh
@chata: Cool
@Gambler: Axford
@shibboleth: Hudson, happy holidays!
@Killer Joe: Hold
@Black Beard: Narveson
@AL KOHOLIC: Ellsbury
@Steve: Yup
@herschel: Theriot, Barney…
@Black Beard: I’d take CC.
@Pooch: You too! Gonzalez…
@mwgris: Narveson
@VinWins:
Big Marlins fan, here.
@Casey Blake’s Beard:
That’s why it’s even cooler.
Thanks for taking time from the fam for us, Grey!
For those wondering (I know I was), Anibal would be the first to throw a no-hitter while giving up a run since Darryl Kile in 1993.
@Grey: I appreciate you taking the time to respond despite your other obligations, so I hate to bug you twice… but is your lack of response to “Andres Torres or LoMo, who would you rather be carrying?” because it’s tomato-tomato or because you have 200 questions to answer and you missed it? Thanks again.
Grey, why are you so down on Ike Davis? He just hit another homer, 2 run shot to straight away center. I’m not sure what’s not to like about .294/.385/.912 OPS and 16 RBIs thus far.
NOOOOOOOO
@Eddy: That’s too bad. I was a big Dave Stieb fan and watched him lose no-hitters in back to back starts with 2 outs in the 9th.
@VinWins:
Oh wow, that must have been absolutely heart-wrenching.
@Eddy: Yeah, now I just worry about wins and losses.
@Grey: Wow, that was a ton of replies. Props to Grey. Thanks.
grey thanks bud,we could have survived 1 night,your a gamer
@Casey Blake’s Beard: No worries.
@Awesomus Maximus: Sorry… Morrison…
@WDE05: He’s yawnstipating to me.
@Black Beard: No worries.
@AL KOHOLIC: No worries.
Thanks for the huge effort, Grey! All the best to your family; hope you enjoy the weekend.
Grey, drop Raburn for Herrera in 14 Teamer?
Also, lose any of Markakis/Adam Jones/Reynolds for Gardner or Trumbo in 12 Teamer?
Preciate it, mon.
@Grey: so you’d take Kuroda over doing a spot starter? What do you think of that Berkman/Santana for Dunn deal? If you don’t mind me asking.
Thanks for taking time away from the family for us. It’s much appreciated.
Brace yourselves, Volquez s about to start the first…
@Eddy:
FALSE ALARM
Didn’t see Volquez was pulled. Maloney in to start.
@Eddy: I was all ready to watch Volquez’ first inning on MLB.com, didn’t see he was scratched either. Why is that? Just risk of getting tight again?
@Grey: Thank you, you’re a mensch among mensches. No more questions from me… go enjoy your weekend.
@Whiskey Diet: Hopefully he’s just being held out for the first inning, and then he’ll come in to start the 2nd. That would actually be awesome for my league where we have 180 GS limit on the season… I’d get all his stats but not be charged with a game started.
@Whiskey Diet:
I’m assuming because of the 2-hour rain delay. He probably warmed up too much and spent his arm. Though Maloney is doing his best impression of Volquez as we speak.
Well Grey, tonight I stand up against you like I did last year with Bautista. Th puma is this years Bautista and those teams picking him up via FA wire in a keeper league should reap the benefits.
@grey- can you rank narveson, cueto, and holland por favor?
@Grey: Another shitty outting by Bumgarner. How long is his leash in a 10 teamer?
@Mr2Bits: who is the puma?
@AL KOHOLIC: Berkman.
@Wilsonian: i dropped him 2 days before his onslaught,pissed me off,he hit 6 hr,s in like a week,he is actually swinging good tonight
Beauty Lupe reference, btw what do you think of dunn? Just struggling or in a decline?
@Grey- Lowrie love, just a week after calling him a Crapolonco clone? Don’t jump on the bandwagon now Grey. You missed the boat son.
Need someone at Util. Better option?
Gomes or D. Lee?
gotta think gomes
Is Infante kidding me? Dive for the ball!

I know its been said, but I wanted to add my thanks Grey. Its awesome of you to take the time to answer our questions. Have a great Easter and time with the family.
Alex Gordon for Andrew Bailey? I’m a little wary of Bailey’s glass… body, but I’m also pretty concerned about Gordon’s tendency to not be all that good at hitting baseballs.
Which side would you take? 10-team keeper.
@Lines: That’s a tough call. If you’re desperate saves, go for it. However, Bailey’s injury history is just as troubling as Gordon’s ability to suck.
Also, Boggs hit 97 against Votto. He looks good.
Not desperate, just lacking. Thornton and Storen aren’t helping much. I do have an abundance of OF and 3B options, though, so it’s tempting.
@Lines: Any chance you can broker something with someone that an installed closer and more of a sure thing? If Thornton and Storen are your only closers and nothing else is out there I’d probably go ahead and do it. Maybe try to get a sweetener thrown in.
Heads up to everyone, just heard that Weeks left the Brewers game with a hand injury. Hopefully it’s not bad…
milton bradley left friday’s game with what is being called lower back pain .
clubhouse insiders suggest that this is just a cover-up ,
and that the true cause of his malady is caused by those hearing plugs .
ya gotta let the steam out , milt .
mcclellan, randy wolf, correia. pick one.
Beckett or Latos?
Burnett or frank frank?
I know Grey doesn’t watch but any fellow Canucks see Bobby Ryan’s goal last night? Speaking of which, I haven’t seen The Baron around these parts this year. Did you guys have a falling out?
I need help with a little project. Doesnt have to be Grey as some of you breakdown stats like a Bennis Carpensheeter breaks down joints.
As a Razzbal devotee i have a few things:
- a highly NL centric pitching staff
- no offensive depth and therefore lots of pitchers
- no real marquee pitchers as I draft them late
- a shitty catcher but whatevs
With my staff, ranked as follows, Hamels, greinke, Chacin, DeLaRosa, Harang, McLellan, Lilly, Kennedy, I have to manage the fuck out of these guys note just plug and play. Ideally I’d have a system like grey uses to draft pitching (one from tier 1 etc) like follows:
Group A hamels and greinke- start at home against anyone, on the road against all except Colorado.
Group B- start at home against all except Colorado. Start on road against most except Colorado, Philly and The Reds.
group C- start at Home against most except col, cin and phil and start on road against only Sd, cubs etc.
I need help tiering my pitchers and tiering the NL offenses.
@AL KOHOLIC:
Lance
youre an animal with the comments Grey, if that is your real name.
reynolds or mike young at 3b for the rest of the season?
1.) avila or soto?
2.) in a limited bench league, i can’t just wait around for hill…obp league and i’m decent in steals. options aren’t great but who do you like out of:
espinosa, raburn, izturis, theriot
3.) i have been trying to trade for weeks or uggla (same owner), but he wants CC from me. would you do it?
current sp staff: cc, hamels, oswalt, lilly, ogando, lohse
thanks and happy easter.
@knighttown:
Here’s my first crack at it. Is it too conservative?
Tier A- Cin, StL
Tier B- Az, Mil, Col, Phil
Tier C- SF, LA, Cubs, Fla
Tier D- Hou, NYM, Atl, Pit
Tier E- Wash, SD
Tier 1- Hamels, Greinke
Tier 2- Bills, DeLaRosa, Chacin
Tier 3- McLellan, Harang
Tier 4- Beachy, Lilly, Kennedy
Tier A (Road)- No one
Tier A (Home) or B (road)-Tier 1
Tier B (Home) or C (road)-Tier 1 and 2
Tier C (Home) or D (road)- Tier 1, 2 and 3
Tier D (Road) or E (road)- Tier 1-4
Tier E (Home) everyone
Two questions:
1) The Lyon for Pineda deal was cancelled before I could accept it. But he said he’d consider Farnsworth or Walden instead. I won’t do Walden, but would you do Farnsworth for Pineda? My leftover closers would be Soria, K-Rod, Walden, Lyon.
2) Well, I thought Zobrist had picked things up, but it’s not looking that way. Would you lose him for Danny or Raburn (who’s looking like he’s heating up)?
*These are both questions for my 8 Teamer
@Grey:
Whom do you prefer at 2B?
Raburn or Lowrie?
@Grey, @Anyone,
Atahualpa Severino is currently listed as Tuesday’s starter for the Nationals when they take on the Mets. I took a look at his minor league numbers, and they were pretty solid. First of all, does anyone know anything about him? Also, is ESPN full of crap, or is he actually going to be getting a start?
current OFs: upton, crispie, vlad, lind
boesch, raburn and tori hunter are FAs…would you rather own one or more of these guys instead of my current OF?
@bogbert: Right back at cha.
@Whiskey Diet: Do you need speed? If so, Herrara and Markakis for Gardner.
@Wilsonian: Kuroda’s great, I’d take Dunn.
@Awesomus Maximus: Thanks!
@Mr2Bits: We’ll see.
@Martin: Cueto, Narveson…
@timSTi: Lose him.
@NoRunSupport: Thanks! I think he’ll be fine.
@Black Beard: Gomes
@Black Beard: Ha
@Nuke LaDouche: No problem. Back at cha.
@Lines: I’d want Gordon.
@Black Beard: Thanks for the heads up!
@chata: Ha
@famous anus: McClellan
@Too Live Crudite: Latos
@knighttown: Frank… Baron was talking about not playing fantasy anymore.
@charlie batch: Young
@paulzone: Soto… Espinosa…3. I wouldn’t.
@knighttown: This is an interesting exercise, could make a post.
@Wilsonian: Espinosa
@Eddy: Lowrie
@joe from point pleasant: His stats look to me like death by BBs and not terrific Ks. I’d let him pitch first before looking at seriously. (Unless it’s a deep NL-Only league.)
@paulzone: Not yet.
im predicting a sands hr today
@Grey: definitely appreciate the input. Enjoy your holiday with the family. Hopefully I don’t bug the shit out of you too much.
Hey. Bear with me on this. I love Hellickson… Lurve. Should I trade a $8 Hellickson for the next 5 years for a $15 Greinke for 2 years and a $8 Kyle Drabek for 5 years? I think that Drabek will be league average with his control issues… but I dunno. This trade could make me look really stupid
berkman’s not 2006 berkman, but last year his knee was messed up. clearly it’s not at the moment. over the offseason berkman himself said that 1B is actually harder on the knees than the OF. the explanation made sense. at 1B you have to dive for ground balls, run over to the bag three or four times an inning, start & stop, change direction. in the OF you mostly just have to run in a straight line and catch the ball a few times a game. the idea of berkman in the OF is ludicrous mostly because he’s huge, fat, old and slow and therefore probably won’t get to some balls. that might injure the cardlinals’ record, but it isn’t going to injure berkman. i feel like people are kind of conflating those two things (his range and his health).
i went back and forth on him in the preseason and ended up staying away just because the risk of a pesky knee problem in a 35-year-old slugger sticking around seemed too great. but now that i see him hitting, i mean, we know he has the ability to hit if he’s healthy. 35 is old but for a guy like this it’s not ancient. thome’s, what, 47? and he can still hit ok.
@Wilsonian: oops, gotta bug you one more time. What do you think of this:
The Lyon for Pineda deal was cancelled before I could accept it. But he said he’d consider Farnsworth or Walden instead. I won’t do Walden, but would you do Farnsworth for Pineda? My leftover closers would be Soria, K-Rod, Walden, Lyon.
Just traded E.Jax and Walden (I have tons of closers) for YoGa. After the past few starts I’m not sure that was right. Tell me I did good guys.
@Wilsonian: yeah
@AL KOHOLIC: I made the offer with Farnsworth. Not sure if he’ll take it, or not. I wish I woulda got to it before he cancelled it for Lyon.
@AL KOHOLIC: That would be nice.
@Wilsonian: No problem, you too!
@cubbies299: I’d hold.
@wily mo: 35 is pretty old is today’s market. Look at Jeter. He seems old to you? A-Rod isn’t the same player. Without roids, there’s a steeper age curve.
@Wilsonian: Sure
@Nuke LaDouche: You did good.
Morrow still striking out batters – 5 in 2 innings.
@Grey: Hope you had a Good Earth Day. Thanks for all the input. Keep your head down, they will be going back home soon.
@Grey: thanks man!
@Grey: @AL KOHOLIC: did the deal for Pineda with the Farns. I’m going to have a helluva time finding a guy to drop when Longo comes back next week…
Any idea whats going on with Lilly? And is it time to dump Bumgarner? That guy hasn’t had one decent start.
@Wilsonian: man id love to own pineda,he,ll prob have an innings limit,but 150-170 innings of what he,s got is worth a lot,great trade
Seriously, I drop Zobrist and he hits a bomb. Luckily I didn’t drop him until today. This has been my damn luck all year so far.
ENJOY YOUR FAMILY TIME GREY!
Funny how everyone says that and then proceeds to ask you a kajillion more questions…
@AL KOHOLIC: thanks man. I’m not too upset by the deal. It just makes things that much more difficult to find someone to drop next week when Longo comes back.
@Wilsonian: who,s your drop options?
@AL KOHOLIC: I’ll just list the team for you:
C – Wieters
1b – Fielder
2b – Espinosa (for the time being)
3b – Wright
SS – Andrus
OF – Cargo
OF – Kemp
OF – Krispie
UTIL – Tabata
UTIL – Gordon
BN – Dunn
DL – Longo
SP – Lincecum
SP – Verlander
SP – Hamels
RP – Soria
RP – K-Rod
P – Walden
P – Lyon
P – Pineda
BN – Gio
BN – Bills
BN – Kuroda
BN – D.Hudson
DL – Strasburg
@Grey: What if I have to drop Sands to activate Bay? I don’t have another spot. Keeper. Yadda.
@Wilsonian: personally i really like espinosa,when longo comes back id maybe look at trading gordon,especially if he is 3rd base eligible and lyon for a stud closer,i like dunn for depth and he will hit his hr,s.Is this yahoo?keeper league etc,how many teams,you look loaded especially with the addition of pineda at sp
@Wilsonian: Damn.. how many teams do you have in your league?
@Flunkie: im trying now get anything for sands(boggs),they say he has a long leash but with limited rosters in the rcl,s you cant afford to keep him much longer,and he was my #1 targeted minor leaguer coming in
@Grey: Looking for counting numbers (including QS) from pitchers to salvage a horrible H2H week. Who do you like? Also with a limited number of roster moves, it’d be nice to trust the guys next start too…
LeBlanc vs Phils, @ LAD
Carrasco @ Minn, home against DET
Beachy (dropped him 2 starts ago, he’s still around on waivers) @SF, vs STL
Chen vs Tex, @ Minn
@3FingersBrown: Missed that Grey was doing family stuff… have a good weekend dude. Anyone else please chime in. I’m thinking when in doubt reach for the Hodgepadre…
Also anyone… choose one player. Standard 5 + OBP. Positional flexibility (yahoo rules) is a plus.
Seth Smith
Trumbo
Uribe
Coghlan
Bradley
Laporta
Anyone think Brett Lawrie will be up soon? Nice to have middle infield depth…
@AL KOHOLIC: I’m thinking of doing the same thing…Gordon and Lyon for a stud closer. Don’t know if it’ll happen, though. It is a keeper, we keep 5. It’s taken some work (4 trades already this season) but I like my team.
@Flunkie: it’s an 8 team league…don’t worry, I have a 12 and a 16, too.
I just offered my
Youuuuuk / Scherzer
for his
Hanley / Edwin Jax
If he accepts, I win this trade…right?
Great stuff as always. Query: I am shopping for a 2B/SS in 12 team 5X5 Roto. Do I take Barney over Cabrera and Aviles?
@3FingersBrown: uribe is on fire,if you need M.I. help play him while he,s hot but his track record is low ave. smith is the surest thing there for upside and playing time,trumbo might get ab,s when kendry comes back,and if kendry doesnt come back or reinjures himself he could be a 260-25 hr guy
@Team Benson: if thats asdrubal cabrera i take him every day,if not im playing barney while hes hot,end of year aviles will probably be better
Al, thanks. I meant Orlando.
@Wilsonian: id like to play a 16 teamer,but id like 2 dl spots and a little bench room,it kills you when you get 3 or 4 guys with nagging injuries,you cant drop these guys in deep leagues but if they miss 4 or 5 games at the same time it kills you
@AL KOHOLIC: How’s the bad wheel healing? Would you start Wood today against StL – 14 team?
I think I might be able to send Gallardo for Nelson Cruz.
Would you do this if you were me?
who is the top ss here?
Maicer Izturis
Ryan Theriot
Alcides Escobar
Alex Gonzalez
Darwin Barney
@vinko: got the staples out yesterday,and a new castbut its doing real good,ready to get back on my feet though thanks,i probably wouldnt start him against a hot card lineup,but i am really hoping he puts together a better outing today@Derrick: id want cruz there
i think you all know,these are just my opinions which are not equal to grey or rudy,s,they are experts and have poved and earned that title,but while im laid up with a broken leg,ill give you my opinion on these things for fun
loved the morrow start today,a 1st inning hr cost him a win plus a reliever that stunk and blew the game away,10 k,s in 5 innings 3 runs,hope he stays healthy
@AL KOHOLIC: yeah, our bench is small and we only have one DL spot, which I don’t like. It can really screw you.
Who do you think is a good, and probable, target for Gordon and Lyon?
@trick dad: and should i drop jeter for any of them?
Feliz to the Disgraceful List. Guess I should jump on O’day?
Nicki Minaj had the best album of 2010. You can keep your Alex Gordon.
Rhodes or o’day?
@Wilsonian: find a guy in your league 3rd base weak,and id target any top closers,i just traded gordon and crawford for morrison and verlander in my 8 team league,my pitching is killing me and he had cuddyer at 3rd,i was loaded at 3rd c.i. and have tabata and fuld for sb,s,plus crisp is still a free agent,i just got morrow back,that helps and ill give latos 2 or 3 more starts,if he comes around my staff including C.C should reboundalso have chacin ,danks and just got delarosa
@Eng: both. BTW, Vinko, Feliz’s DL is the real DL not the Disgraceful List. See Hughes for that.
@Eng:Yes, you are correct. Fwiw – Daniels didn’t say who would close for the Rangers with Feliz on the disabled list.
Possibly Ogando?
wow,are any of the rangers other guys really worth anything,i really dont have room to drop anyone ,anyone have suggestions
Someone just dropped delmon young, 10 team keeper that counts slugging and bb’s….Should I pick him up? would drop gomes for him
So Casey Blake or Jonny Gomes? Casey Blake or Aubrey Huff?
Edwin Jackson is a useless f***
@slam: delmons getting an mri on his ribs and morneau gave him the 5 day flu,but the guy had 46 doubles 21 hr,s and 112 rbi last year,gomes can be a power hitter and he says the big jump in walks this year(obp)is because he has a starting everyday job,when he was a part timer he said quote you dont gain playing time with walks,so he has been more patient,still 260-25 to 30 tops id think but he,s running to,4 sb,s already
@AL KOHOLIC: Thanks… while thinking about it, Uribe and Smith both were taken off of waivers. Not too hot on either honestly. Think I’ll take Trumbo…
Which starter do you like for his next two starts?
LeBlanc vs Phils, @ LAD
Carrasco @ Minn, home against DET
Beachy (dropped him 2 starts ago, he’s still around on waivers) @SF, vs STL
Chen vs Tex, @ Minn
@3FingersBrown: beachy
Know Grey is busy so I figured I’d bring this over here:
I asked Smokey in the other thread and he opined that O’Day was atop the list in Texas.
@Black Beard: Probably should also say it would likely be a committee. So add at your own risk.
@AL KOHOLIC: Word. I’m dropping Fausto – who dropped the Cleveland streamer on me and Rolen for Beachy & the Hodgepadre @ home Leblanc.
Then I’ll dump Leblanc for a bat for next week. This is a keeper, so I’m itching to snatch up Lawrie.
.
Hey Grey, just wondering what are your thoughts on Chris Tillman? Haven’t seen much of a write-up on him. You think future stud or middle of the rotation starter?
@3FingersBrown:
lawrie projects out to be the utility guy
@3FingersBrown: yeah rolen can help in a pinch,rbi,s but 130-145 games would be a great year for him,shoulder problems are bothering him,lawrie is a desmond/espinosa type,mid range ave, with some speed and some pop
Oliver to headline the committee in TEX. Rhodes, O’Day, Cody Eppely likely to get chances, too.
@Wilsonian: Thanks. Curious, where’d you heard this?
@Dad: That was even close to English, but you get the idea.
@Dad: twitter and Rotoinfo. One thing was a conversation with Matthew Berry, so take that with a grain of salt. I don’t know if it’s 100% certain, but that’s what I read.
Bruce erupts with an RBI walk!
from rotoworld:
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News expects Darren Oliver to get most of the save chances in Texas while closer Neftali Feliz is sidelined.
Feliz was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday and won’t be back until early May. Oliver, 40, has a 2.16 ERA and 0.60 WHIP through eight appearances this season and should do just fine in the temporary ninth inning role. He needs to be owned in all leagues.
@AL KOHOLIC
@chata: He’ll be in a far more potent lineup than the DC MI duo however… I whiffed on Espinoza and I can really use a 2B (where Lawrie is now eligible in Yahoo). I’ve got Herrera now.
Think I should dump Herrera for Barney the dinosaur? I know Grey likes him but he seems like another sparky anklebiter to me. Check those BB/K rates? At least Herrera walks and this league counts AVG & OBP.
@3FingersBrown: i think barney is hot,but i like herrera overall game better he even steals some bases 4 so far
lawrie is on fire so far at AAA 4 doubles a triple 2 hr,s 2 sb,s .414 ave. ops 1.224,ill take a double dose of that when he gets the call,im still waiting on gordon and his burning ss speed,i doubt we see him very soon,he k,s like stanton but no power,yet still hits around 300
@herschel: This is good to know. Earlier Grant tweeted that he had yet to talk to Washington, and then this follows. Looks like it will be Oliver.
Grey/All : With Feliz going to the DL, I need to lose one player to get Hart out of my DL spot to move Feliz into so I can pick up Oliver
Who do you lose?
Lind
Kendrick
Krispie Young
or
Edwin Jackson
@AL KOHOLIC: I Lawrie does play in the PCL but still. With the garbage that’s in the MI this season, I’ll be happy to snag him. Gordon too, although I’ve got Castro on all three of my teams this year.
Grey, someone just dropped EJax. I’ve got Liriano, Oswalt, Bills, Nolasco and Jhoulys as my SP, with Cueto on the DL. I could drop Rauch or Lowrie (a bench fill-in for Rollins/Espinosa), but my innings cap of 1250 will be an issue rolling 6-7 SPs.
Should I add EJax and just start playing matchups with him, Jhoulys and Nolasco, or stand pat?
in yahoo you can just switch them if not pro;;y jackson
vazquez over bumgarner?
@Wake Up: Yeah, I know.
@birrrdy!: Thanks.
@Flunkie: Sure
@3FingersBrown: Beachy
@Whiskey Diet: It’s okay.
@Team Benson: Over Aviles.
@Derrick: Yup
@trick dad: Escobar
@vinko: That’s not a Disgraceful List stint. Oliver…
@J Rich: Ha
@Eng: Oliver
@slam: Eh
@mikeE: Gomes, Huff…
@TillmanLover: He has a 6 ERA, no?
@Mr2Bits: Jackson
@charlie batch: Sure
sounds tomato-tomahto. thanks.
F$@#ing Stauffer, sucks all year. I take him out this week with @Cubs and Philly on deck, and what does he do? He dominates.
@Grey:
If I told you I had Niese, would that change your mind over Jackson?
@Grey: Hello sir, Could you help me pick a spot pitcher for tomorrow… really needing a WIN and K’s ( i know how you them those K’s) (blushes*)
Sam Lecure(cin) @ STL
Jason Marquis(was) @ PIT
Jake Westbrook(stl) v. CIN
Carlos Carrasco(cle) @ MIN
Galarraga(ari) @ NYM
Wade LeBlanc(sd) v. PHI
Thanks!
Hanley is really starting to piss me off.
Yeah, I know it’s early and he’ll come right, but he is.
@Mr2Bits: Yup
@tggq21: Galarraga
Is it ok to drop Bumgarner at this point? What about Lilly?
@Grey: hey is your espn messed up?it booted me off,now its not letting me log on,everyone have a great Easter and grey i really hope the family time went great,
@Steve:
would you have rather drafted tulo ?
damn espn,ive got a few moves to make and i dont mean dance moves
@chata: I’m sure he’ll be fine but some semblance of form would be nice.
Happy Easter all. Giant leg of lamb roasting as we speak.
@Steve: are you able to get on espn?wont let me,happy easter
Al – no, I can’t get in. Just as well the way my team is going.
@Steve:
happy easter , steve .
lamb … with garlic , oregano , & , lemon … ala the greeks … yum .
you’re not one of those mint jelly guys , are you ?
@Steve: ah,i wont turn my back on you,you,ll inch your way up,ive got to do that in the keeper league,cant get any ave,obp wins,era and whip,but i,ll keep on trucking,enjoy your lamb
@Grey: no, i totally agree with that (35 being older nowadays than it was back in steroidy times). i’m just saying, we should treat berkman like a 35-year-old lance berkman. which is sketchy, but, at the same time, basically pretend last year never happened, and don’t worry too much about the outfield thing.
when everybody was analyzing konerko to death during the offseason, somebody on fangraphs or some similar joyless place produced a stat saying that basically no 35-year-old first baseman had ever had a good season anywhere ever. that might have been the biggest reason i decided to bail on berkman. but he appears to be trying to evade this harsh reality by moving back to the outfield at age 35. which seems like cheating.
if there was a draft today i’d probably grab him somewhere around the 9th-11th rounds. so if people get a chance to sell him for something better than that i guess obviously they should. i do think he’s capable of having a completely solid season, though.
ha,espn is back up,overload of traffic after the feliz announcment,and madsons 2nd save in a row
@Grey: Hey Grey, looking to upgrade my SP as offense is looking solid. I have Pineda, Wandy and Romero on the wire with Sherzer, B. Anderson, G Gonzalez, DeLaRosa, Hanson, & Peavy on DL. Anyone worth dropping…
(Sherzer through Peavy on my team)
@chata: Not a mint jelly fan myself but some of my nearest and dearest are, so won’t disparage them for that.
Tonight’s lamb was slow roasted (3 and a half hours) with flavours of garlic, cumin, thyme and paprika. And to blow my own trumpet, it was mighty good.
Ian Kennedy, Dempster, E. Jackson and Volquez are killing me right now. Beachy and Correia are out there on the wire. Do I pick them both up? If so, who do I drop?
@Grey: Should I burn my #1 waiver on Bourjos? My OF/UT situation in a 10 teamer is such:
Pence, Kemp, Quentin, Sizemore, J-Upton, Trumbo, & Gomes. Trumbo would probably be the odd man out most nights.
@Nick: Pineda for De La Rosa
Here’s one for anyone who cares to listen…
Do I lose Snider for Damon in a 16 Team H2H 5 player Keeper?
Snider isn’t doing shizz except for breaking bats over his leg.
@Wilsonian: OR do I drop Sean Burnett (have Kimbrel, Hanrahan, Walden as closers) for Damon and just bench Snider?
@Wilsonian: oh…and Happy Easter, lady and gents!
@Fellow degenerates: I need some OBP & SLG recommendations for deep league. Pick Two (2) for UT slot: Napoli, Cust, M. Bradley, Carlos Lee, H. Matsui, R. Roberts, G. Jones
NL Only 12-team 4×4 league..
Is it time to give up on J.McDonald?
The only way to get rid of a player in our league is thru trade, injuries, or minors.
I have an offer of R.Wells for McDonald.
If I take it , I’d have to pick up a pitcher for a few weeks (likely Gorzo, Marquis, or a setup man) to get by before Wells comes back.. or I could stick with McD and hope the worst is over.
What do you think?
and if I trade.. which fill-in would you go with Gorzo, Marq, or someone like D.Hernandez?
Well Grey, you may be disappointed to read I was impatient with Ryan Raburn and let him go in a fit of disgust with my team. Of course, the main vulture in our league grabbed him early Saturday before I could get him back. Huge mistake, especially since my offense has been struggling all season. I will live to regret this as he hits his way back into Jim Leyland’s smoking circle. My bad!
@Wilsonian: I too am wrestling with Burnett on my roster. It looks like he is done or close to it with Storen pitching well. Unfortunately, I only have Valverde and Capps. Damon is hitting (I too dropped him but am considering adding again), even with his bad finger. If he can stay at DH, I think he is better than Snider at this time.
@knighttown:
Like yer style.
stanton/kimbrel or jiminez/butler,
Grey Thoughts – 12 Team Mixed h2h
Jed Lowrie for Angel Pagan
@Nuke LaDouche: I’d hold Lilly.
@wily mo: Can throw last year out, if you like, but it did happen and shows Berkman’s age.
@Nick: I’d hold.
@Derrick: It’s a rough patch. Beachy and Correia aren’t reliably better.
@Wilsonian: Happy Easter! Drop Burnett, bench Snider.
@Giggles McGehee: Lee, Jones
@elwood blues: Take Wells, grab Hernandez.
@yankees2011: Ha!
@AL KOHOLIC: Depends what you need. I’d take Stanton.
@Tom: I’d take Pagan, but it’s a coin flip on needs.
I’ve never seen a no-hitter get jinxed so early:
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2011_04_24_colmlb_flomlb_1&mode=preview&vkey=preview_web_away&c_id=col&partnerId=rss_col
And to answer an earlier question of yours, Grey, this is the Philliebot, which couldn’t even throw to home:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/225941/robot_throws_first_pitch_at_phillies_game.html
@Grey: you skipped over my question at #274
@Grey: and BTW, you are preemptively forgiven as always amigo! haha
Would you trade any two of these closers for Feliz in a 2-for-1 trade?
Contreras, KRod, Axford
Assume I have enough saves depth, and am just looking for an upgrade
@Grey: How would you rank the following starting pitchers from this point forward… Beckett, Liriano, Nolasco, Pineda? Thanks.
@Steve:
thanks for sharing your recipe .
will give it a go , soon .
@Grey: yeah,didnt really need jiminez,s k,s losing kimbrel would hurt but butlers ave. could have helped a lineup with bruce and pena,he retrackted the offer any ways,thanks and again enjoy a wonderfull Easter
@Grey: That’s what I was thinking..
Who wins this offer:
Latos, Bartlett, and Headley for Bumgartner, Drew, Freeman
@Wilson’s Beard: nice group,that pineda i like,but surely an innings cap,beckett and nolasco looking real good early,
Start Beachy?
Hill finally put on the disabled list retroactive to Wednesday
Thanks Grey!
And damn I was way too quick to drop Zobrist yesterday…another bomb today! Hopefully he clears and I can snag him back on Tuesday morning.
I need to pick up a second baseman with Hill on the DL: would you drop Stauffer, Beachy, Narveson, or Cueto for someone like Angel Sanchez or would you try and make a trade for a second baseman? I have an excess of pitching.
@Grey: drop fowler for raburn (especially due to the fact he only needs 1 more game to get 2b eligibility)? 5 x 5, 12 team roto.
@Grey: sure. i’m not sure we’re even really disagreeing here.
i look at it like – for example, a-rod’s also 35, and he’s already missed time hurt. so that’s definitely something to keep in mind with him. but he’s clearly still got the ability to hit like healthy a-rod when he’s, you know, healthy, and his performance so far this year suggests to me that his relative mediocrity last year was probably hip-related.
so what i’m mainly saying is that i think the way berkman disappeared on the yankees last year was almost completely because of his knee, as opposed to age-related permanent skills decline, lost bat speed or anything like that. he’s old, health and age are connected, he could tweak the knee again tomorrow, absolutely. but if he doesn’t i don’t see why he can’t keep hitting more or less like this. (obviously this is a hot streak even for a good hitter.)
that’s all. selling high on him isn’t a terrible plan. you didn’t say to drop him, you just said “see if you can find someone willing to overpay,” and that’s always a good idea.
drop lomo, Kyle Drabek, Chris Narveson,or hang tight to pick up Darren Oliver
(AP) BREAKING NEWS: Still recovering from the devastating tornadoes that ripped through the area just two nights ago, the citizens of St. Louis have been warned by forecasters to brace themselves yet again this evening. National Weather Service radar is showing an imminent eruption of Mount Volcanoquez, scheduled to start spewing hits and walks and runs at approximately 8:25 this evening, whipping it’s victims into Sunday night submission. If you are in the effected area of this eruption, seek shelter on the waiver wire immediately.
@ Anyone
What do you think about starting Beachy today @SF?
Shields CG shutout of the Jays in 95 pitches.
Who should I keep as my last pitcher in my 12 team 5×5 roto league? We have no bench and weekly lineups. My options are Bud Norris for 2 starts, Brett Myers or Darren Oliver. Could use help in Ks and Saves, but I already have K-Rod, Stpren and Boggs as closers… What do you think?
trade bjupton for mike stanton? i have a clogged outfield with little power on my team
Anyone… drop D. Hudson for Shields? 8 team league.
@Grey: Gomez or Maybin? It production points so I dont have a “need”.
Bee Tee Dub – whats everyone eating on Easter?
Volquez to start tonight.
@sal: Roast lamb. Recipe at comment #272
Rios just hit the waivers. Gotta drop Sands to go after him right? Rios gonna snap out of it?
Aw Kemp. I know it’s 7-3 but I need those RBIs!
@dja: yeah,if you need power you have to grab stanton there
Better Hill fill-in – Espinosa, Barney or Cuddyer (2B-eligible in Yahoo)?
@AL KOHOLIC: what did you think of my 8 team question… D. Hudson for Shields?
Ah Brett Tomko. It’s like you never went away.
@Steve: espinosa or cuddyer id think@Wilsonian: in an 8 team league,id expect both of them to be spot starters F/A ,but id have to give the edge to hudson i think over the whole season,right now shields
Beachy owners are not happy.
frikin relievers blow beachy,s great game,im rolling with beachy for a while
Contreras to the DL, Madson closer.
@Nuke LaDouche: Yeah, jump on Rios.@sal: I think Grey would say Maybin. He’s made it no secret he doesn’t think Gomez is a good baseball player. Just my hunch.
Grey,
Should I add Barney and lose Escobar while Dinosaur is hitting? 14 Teamer, Escobar is looking like Tony Pena, Jr. with his bat.
Thanks for making it happen, hope the weekend wasn’t too hectic.
@royce!: Ha! That’s awesome.
@timSTi: You should.
@Cheese: Jose and Axford…
@Wilson’s Beard: Liriano, Beckett, Nolasco…
@AL KOHOLIC: Thanks, you too!
@elwood blues: Drew, I guess…Not crazy about either side.
@Mike: Stauffer
@herschel: Sure
@wily mo: Yeah, agreed.
@aj: Hold
@AubreyHuffingGlue: Myers
@dja: Sure
@Wilsonian: Eh
@sal: Maybin… Fish
@Nuke LaDouche: Yup
@Steve: Espinosa
@Donnie Baseball: Thanks for the heads up!
@Whiskey Diet: I’d hold.
Start Kennedy in H2H tomorrow?
@Grey:
Do you prefer Ian Kennedy or Travis Wood?
In addition, when should we cut bait with Alfonso Soriano?
And Aaron Hill officially to the DL.
Sorry if this was mentioned!
@Eddy: Wish Yahoo would put him there too.
And out of nowhere, Jose Contreras to the DL.
Ugh.
Grey, are you concerned at all at Adrian Gonzalez only having 1 HR in 85 AB’s so far this year? Could it be related to his shoulder surgery? Do you think I should relax or would you try to sell him for 90-95 cents on the dollar?
Hey all! Does CJ get a QS for today’s start?
nice, frikking i need a save, the braves go ahead, i won Kimbrel, they bring in frikkin Venters!
Morneau or Alvarez? (or drop Jones or Markakis to hold both 1Bs)
Farnsworth, Storen, or Hanrahan?
Thanks!
@Eddy: yup, finally dropped madson this morning after Manuel said Contreras was fine. F me.
@Grey: weekly 5 x 5 roto league. need to pick 2 of the following for next week. who do you like?
harang vs atl
norris vs stl, vs mil
beachy vs stl
d. hudson vs phi, vs chc
kuroda vs sd
leaning towards harang and norris. thoughts?
thanks.
Madson or Lyon?
****SCORELESS FIRST FOR VOLQUEZ****
@Steve: Yup
@Eddy: Wood… Lose Soriano.
@Gambler: Nope
@bogbert: Morneau…Hanrahanananan
@herschel: Harang, Kuroda…
@Wilsonian: Lyon
@Eddy: Wow!
in AL-Only 2 catcher league, would you swap Sean-Rod for Conger?
@Grey:
I think we’re in for a 25 K CG performance.
@Grey:
Thanks for the advice. I’ll wait for Wood to clear waivers to pick him up.
All right, here are some options to replace Soriano. It’s a 12-team H2H league with OBP instead of AVG. I’m golden in RBI, SB and HR, average in runs, and terrible in OBP. I’m not sure if I’m looking for someone for the long run, or just continue to ride the hot hand. I’m fine with whichever.
Adam Jones
Johnny Damon
Brett Wallace
Ryan Roberts
Travis Snider
Freddie Freeman
Ryan Raburn
Melky Cabrera
Wilson Betemit
Peter Bourjos
Chipper Jones.
Which side you guys prefer:
his
Rasmus / Morrow
for my
Krispie / Pineda
I’m trying to sell high on Pineda…is that a good idea and do I upgrade in this trade?
A.Soriano, Bay, or Gordan for the rest of the year?
@Grey: bastardo get some saves now,hes got some sexy numbers,still keep santos over him though ?
As a 2nd catcher in 16 team league, Conger or Thole?
with all the uncertainty around Doumit, my 2nd catcher.. do I trade him for Thole? in an NL Only 4×4 league
@Cheese:
I’d go Conger. It looks like he’s solidified some playing time (especially with his exclusive starts with Weaver) and he’s swinging a pretty hot bat. Thole, on the other hand, is owned across several Razzball teams.
@rafi: Eh
@Eddy: Ha
@Eddy: Bourjos or Raburn if you don’t need steals.
@Whiskey Diet: Rasmus
@Cheese: Conger
@elwood blues: Depends what you’re trading.
What do you guys think of this deal:
Wright/Andrus for Uggla/Castro?
I have Longoria and Gordon, but I still don’t think I could do it. What do you guys think?
Grey, do you think Pineda is worth an add? My current rotation is Liriano, Gallardo, Marcum, Gio, Bills, Morrow. Thanks as always.
Someone in my league just dropped Volquez. I’m not really in need of pitching but feel like he is a must add. My staff is Carpenter, Hanson, Chacin, Kuroda, Wood, Beachy and Narveson. Would you drop any of the guys at the back end of the staff? Thanks.
what about doumit straight up for lucroy
@grey- Michael Cuddyer now has 2ndbase eligibility in my yahoo league. Do you prefer him or rayburn for a league that counts R,HR,RBI,AVG,SB,OPS?
@TheBravesWearPrado:
As an addendum to my question, how much of my $100 FAAB should I use if I were to attempt to pick him up?
so the trade is Blanks and McDonald for Bumgartner and Tholes.. in an NL Only keeper league
ATTN-Albert pulls up on a groundout didnt finish game,
bruce or Ellsbury? More value, throw out team needs.
@Wilsonian: Wright side
@bogbert: Sure
@elwood blues: Sure
@Martin: Raburn
@TheBravesWearPrado: $3…Wood
@AL KOHOLIC: Don’t even joke like that.
@Donnie Baseball: Bruce
@Donnie Baseball: you cant really throw out team needs,one should hit 25-30 homers the other should steal 40-50 bases,totaly whichever stat you need to fill,bruce is still immature,constantly getting behind in the count,just not a real smart hitter,but he has pure athletic talent and when he tends to get locked in can go on a month long binge
@Grey: serriously,not sure how bad,but he didnt finish running out a groundout,and im pretty sure he didnt field in the bottom of the ninth
@Grey: this herrera guy,has 4 sb,s will he get regular ab,s and what kind of line you see him getting
@AL KOHOLIC: Why would you say those things, AL?
@AL KOHOLIC: @Grey:
Albert Pujols was removed from Sunday’s game in the seventh inning with mild tightness in his left hamstring.
Pujols hit a grounder and pulled up while running down the first base line. The Cardinals training staff examined him when he returned to the dugout. Jon Jay entered the game in right field, with Lance Berkman shifting to first. The severity of Pujols’ injury is not yet known, but B.J. Rains of FOXSportsMidwest.com wrote that removing him from the game was a precautionary measure.
and volquez knee buckled on a pitch where a missed bunt attempt and it was after that that he seemed to really struggle,they even showed a replay and mentioned it
@AL KOHOLIC: I saw that. Though with two outs, he really should have got out of that inning – instead he threw Yadi a first-pitch fat one.
not big on basketball much anymore but been a laker fan since childhood,went to a game last time i was in california,but lakers are getting ready to loose tonight
@Grey – How long do we hol onto Beckham? Having Mark Teahen fill in for you (granted it was against Mad Max) can’t be a good thing. KJ & Espinosa are the best WW options. Hold? Thanks and I hope you had a great holiday weekend!
@Steve: @Grey: im from st.louis most of my life so i dont want to see albert hurt either,and as for my reds,they have got to get some decent starters going,wood really isnt pitching well either,how many teams this year picked up johnny gomes thimking they had 40 hr,s in the bag,he,ll still hit a few but he sure sizzled out quick
@grey or any other informed fantasy baseballers.
Jason bay is on the waiver, is it worth dropping gordon or soriano for him? 10 team mix, non keeper
