Brad Peacock isn’t even ranked in the top 150 starters for CBS. Then again they have Javier Vazquez ranked 47th overall and he retired, so there’s that. Here’s what I said when he was traded to the A’s, “Peacock had a great season in Double- and Triple-A last year, putting up a 2.39 ERA and a 177/47 K/BB line. The A’s basically got Gio Gonzalez back. I’m gonna be all about Peacock in 2012 like I just woke up from a nap after drinking seven glasses of water.” And that’s me quoting me! I obviously thought the acquisition of Peacock by Pitt was a great get. I wonder if skinny Jonah Hill is as good a baseball evaluator as fat Jonah Hill. I know he’s not as funny. He’s not even as easy to look at. Nothing worse than the nerd who gets the summer makeover and thinks he’s now cool. You’re still a nerd, embrace your Jew-fro. Don’t make me take off my mustache and smack you with it. Peacock is done with the minors. He has nothing left to prove, so I do think the understaffed A’s will show off their Peacock in their Opening Day rotation. So what can we expect of Brad Peacock for 2012 fantasy baseball and what makes him a sleeper?
He has a good fastball, but when Peacock is working off the curve his balls can be all over the place. I’m sorry, I need to pause to giggle. Okay, back to business. Usually Peacock gets so worked up when he’s promoted… Okay, I need to just call him “he” otherwise I’ll never get through this post. He tends to lose control and his ratios take a hit when he’s first promoted. I’m thinking it’s because he gets over-excited. Hopefully, he only has these issues for the first 40 innings. That’s how long it usually lasts. Luckily, his home park is very forgiving. The exciting thing about him — the Ks. C’mon, you knew that was coming. He had a 11+ K/9 in Double-A and a 9 K/9 in Triple-A. If he only gives a 7+ K/9, I’m still buying. With some command issues, but nice Ks and no wins on the A’s, I see his line at 9-8/3.60/1.30/170. Optimistic, but completely doable. Peacock isn’t just a command a foul-mouthed old man will shout at the urinal, he’s a great sleeper for 2012 fantasy baseball.

nice article, i agree on peacock 100%, and it made me happy when i saw you mention how u loved him when u first wrote about the trade.
I also really like the other pieces that Oakland got in the deal, most of all, Tommy Millone.
I also think that Millone starts the year in the rotation, and the person i compare him to is BRANDON BEACHY. This guys stats are nearly a carbon copy of what Beachy did in the minors, and he is also an guy who, like Beachy, was a little older than most prospects and more polished.
I will draft Millone all over the place, and I expect him to have similar success to beachy with an era around 3.75 and 8+ k/9 to go with a minute walk rate. This is someone u can get LATE in most drafts. Remember his name people!
It’ll be fun to use Fantasy Team names with Peacock puns if he turns out to be good.

So according to CBS’s depth chart, the A’s rotation is 1) McCarthy, 2) Colon, 3) Peacock, 4) Parker, 5) Milone, 6) Braden, 7) Anderson
Anderson won’t be back til late spring at the earliest, but Braden should be ready before the end of May.
If Peacock is susceptible to nerves early, will the A’s let him work it out? It makes sense that they would – they’ve been pretty transparent about this being a year of rebuilding, and if Peacock’s already done everything he can do in the minors, you probably want to stick with him through the rough start. Moreover, w/McCarthy, Parker, Colon and Milone rounding out the rest of the start-of-the-season rotation, Peacock may not be the worst of the bunch when Braden returns.
But let’s say they are all doing OK. Does Colon go to the bullpen? Or does Braden ease his way back by starting in long relief?

@Joe C – He throws like 87-88 mph and touches 90 every so often… His two big pitches are his plus curveball and plus change.
His repertoire/stuff is similar to that of Shaun Marcum’s exept his command is impeccable.
It is possible his K rate is closer to 7k/9 but i still really like this kid.

@awesomus: the huge difference is that filthy’s huge problem has been his walks, and Peacock seems to be much more of a control kinda guy. Just above 2 bb/9 in the minors
cbs has the worst rankings, something like 20 SPs in the first 4 picks…literally and figuratively. Their draft room rankings are even crazier. Thank you Razzball for restoring order!

Grey, when the Ryan Braun news broke, you said in redraft leagues you wouldn’t touch him before 10th round and for keepers you could make a case for the 5th round.
I was looking at the ADP reports on MDC and he’s averaging 2nd-3rd round.
You think that round value sticks? And in a keeper where you keep players based on selected round is he worth a 2nd round pick?
