What is in the Houston water? More specifically, what is in the water in the Astros’ clubhouse that the pitchers have been drinking? It’s really more about what they’re spinning, than drinking, and this opening is starting to sound like I’m drinking when I’m trying to spin. Whatevs. The 2019 Fantasy Baseball Video Draft Guide continues with a look at Astros’ new toy, Josh James. Check it out, leave us a comment, and check out the others (if you’ve missed any to this point. See below.)

Im a big josh james guy. Definitely targeting.

    Quick keeper question:
Severino (20th round) (5 round yearly penalty) vs Buehler (25th round) (5 round yearly penalty)

    and

Acuna (5th round) (1 round yearly penalty) vs Eloy (25th round) (5 round yearly penalty)

Thanks guys, keep up the good work.

@Evans: Appreciated! Sevy for me, for sure. Second not as easy because of the price, but I think Acuna will be a perennial 1st rounder, so really only one year you get him at cost, with the rest still being value.

@Andy Singleton: what do you make of their second halves? I was leaning buehler

@Evans: I think their prices are similar enough to make it even. That said, I like Sevy to only get better, and Buehler to as well, but the Dodgers usage of Pitchers is in a league of their own. It worries me. That is the breaking point for me.

My favorite guy I’ve scouted this off season. Good athlete; saw him get way off the mound fielding. It’s not high effort velocity. Watched him k Nelson Cruz on a pretty nasty change. He throws it more than a quarter of the time. I don’t think the slider always has the bite. It’ll roll on him sometimes.

Glad for the post. Knew as soon as I looked at him he’d draw attention and that adp us going to go up. A good guy to get early in the draft season.

@OaktownSteve: Yea, hoping he can remain a starter this year, and hoping the draft price doesn’t spike between now and March

    Ralph,
What is your opinion on LHP Osval Hernandez?
He had a great season on A ball, 11-4 1.81, but more important he threw 110 innings as a 19 year old.

Who are you more interested in if apd were equal (tbd): Josh James or Alex Reyes? Two guys with velo, major strikeout upside, and potential innings limits.

@Curious George: This is a really good question, and if all things were equal with health as well, I’d likely lean Reyes – if not for talent, then personal fanliness. They’re both in good organizations, should have a lot of potential for Wins, but I’ll generally take the healthier guy, until proven otherwise. So James for me (for now).

Is there a way to play the videos on a loop or in a consecutive sequence?

For instance, playing this video and going directly to the next video from yesterday, etc.

@Big League Wood: I’m honestly not sure what is happening, and am in the process of a help chain of emails with vimeo (that isn’t exactly helping). There is supposed to be a popup at the end with options for other videos in this series, and that doesn’t seem to be happening. I don’t know if it’s a difference between embedding and if you’re actually on the host site, but if you notice, I am putting links in the posts themselves to the other episodes. Is that helpful?

James was available for three or four days in my league on the waiver wire and I simply couldn’t talk myself into him. Obviously, now with what he’s shown and the potential upside, I really regret not grabbing him when I had the chance.

I’m still not convinced he’s the next Josh Hader. But I am convinced the potential is there. I’d do like Andy here. I might not draft him in one year league’s early, but I sure wouldn’t let him slide either. I would definitely take James before I invested in Zach Godley. Yikes on Godley. lol

My league has a minor league draft every year, the new guys drafted each year are pretty much the top guys from the last years MLB draft. Josh James is available to be drafted in the minor league draft this year as no one picked him up at the end of last season and he is below the innings cap. How high would you take him? Kelenic and Kyler Murray are other names I’ve heard that will be taken high in this draft.
