I don’t know about you but it has been an interesting season to say the least. It’s been a lot of fun writing these posts here for you on Monday morning for the day’s slates and I hope you were able to plug in a few players that helped you take down a slate or two or played a pitcher you were on the fence that got you to the money in the end. The Monday slates are a little different in that they are usually a little lighter on the games played but that sometimes was really useful in finding some of the hidden gems that were out there as you really had to dig a little deeper into some of the lineups. Well no different here as we only have 5 games to choose from 3 on an early slate and 2 on a late slate so I’ll give you some players for both slates today and a pitcher for each of them. The pitcher I will focus on for the late slate is Chris Flexen ($8,600). Chris has really had an outstanding season for the Mariners and coming out of training camp this year there were some doubts he would actually stick in the rotation the whole season but that’s exactly what he has done. This will be Flexen’s 30th start of the season and looking back at his starts he only has had a couple of starts where he didn’t go at least 5 innings. He has been very consistent limits hard contact and doesn’t walk anybody which limits the runs he gives up. The knock on Flexen in fantasy is he doesn’t strike out enough hitters but against these same Athletics he will face today. In his last start, he struck out 8 A’s in 7 INN of work and got the win and you will definitely be happy with that today. I would start him with confidence especially on this slate.

Over the past few seasons few positions have gotten more hype than shortstop. With players like Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, Alex Bregman, Addison Russell, Amed Rosario, the names go on and on. Some of these names were obviously major difference makers in fantasy, while others have ridden “real baseball” prospect hype to overrated status. Much like with catchers on the mainstream prospect lists, the demands of the position defensively significantly increase these player’s values. We don’t care about defense though, there’s only two questions we ask ourselves as dynasty managers. Does this Rotowear shirt make me look fat? No, wait, wrong question. We ask ourselves A. Can he hit? B. Will he stick at the position? The latter of which is ehhh, with a side of meh sauce. I really only care if they can hit. If a player is moved to second, third, or center, it really doesn’t matter, you know, as long as the skills play. I understand position scarcity, but my focus when drafting, adding, or trading for prospects in fantasy leagues is to land the best possible hitters. With this in mind I present to you the Top 10 Shortstop Prospects for 2018 Fantasy Baseball.

On Saturday’s edition of the prospect podcast Halp and I discussed our updated first year player draft rankings. Each of us agreed that the number 1 pick in this June’s draft had slipped ahead of Hunter Greene and into the top spot on our respective ranks. Yesterday afternoon, the Twins did us a great service. They affirmed our decision with the promotion of Royce Lewis to full season Cedar Rapids of the Midwest league. So far the top pick has been an exciting take, and surprisingly polished. The numbers are more good than great, but then again, he was playing high school baseball three months ago. Still .271/.390/.414 with 3 homers and 15 steals, ain’t too shabby in 36 games. The young shortstop has the ability to be an impact fantasy player in multiple categories at peak. Meaning his ability to stick in the middle infield doesn’t dictate his value. He was in the lineup hitting leadoff last night for Cedar Rapids, and went 4 for 5 in his debut, with 2 runs scored, an RBI, and a steal. If they request buckets of your finest chum, drop it on your porch and back away slowly. From east to west, from north to south, and every where in between, Crabs inhabit this fine land. They might be your UPS driver, insurance agent, or state senator. They’re your husbands, friends, and neighbors. They are a secret society of highly intelligent fantasy baseball masters, and Samurai’s of the comment section, prepared for battle at the drop of a hat. I am of course discussing the inhabitants of Razzball’s own 30 team dynasty league The Razz30. It’s been a month of elite level play, with several teams still in the hunt for the 4 playoff spots in the AL and NL. Our trade deadline came and went on Monday, and there was action galore up until the last bell. As we close in on the end of our first year of independence, I’m glad to report that the state of the league has never been stronger. To all my smooth gooch rocking, white monster drinking, thirsty villains, get out the spreadsheet. Claws Up!!!
