[Editor’s Note]: Greetings, Razzers, it’s that guy Sky you all maybe kinda remember from that one post about that one guy from that one time. I’m telling ya, it was memorable! But even if not, I wanted to slide into your interwebs for a minute and let you know we’ve got a new bag this year with DFS as we’re working with FanDuel Wednesday thru Saturday, breaking down the slates on the daily with our usual mix of bad grammar and unbridled enthusiasm that you’ve come to love. I for one welcome our new DFS overlords…please come along with me and welcome them too!
Welcome everyone! The Collector here, breaking down this beautiful Wednesday slate on FanDuel for you! If you don’t play on FanDuel now is the time to sign up and play. I first want to say how happy I am baseball is back, I’ve only been waiting 6 months for this (you can only play so much dfs hockey/pga). I’m first going to break down exactly what I will be doing for you guys this season. I’ll be giving you guys gpp plays, and try to avoid chalk (though that’s not always possible). As a gpp player I think I can help those out who want to play gpps as well. You won’t be seeing me say “Play Colorado in Coors” (BORING) or “Play Kershaw against the Padres” (ok this may happen but I’ll try really hard not to go there).
Today we have a 12 game slate, biggest one to date. At first glance this seems like a solid slate with very little weather issues (besides in Cincinnati). Let me breakdown my chalk plays real quick at each position
SP J Degrom (9800) R hill (9600)
C G Sanchez (3400) B Posey (3300
1B P Goldschmidt (4300) either E Thames (2400) or T Joseph (2000)
2B R Odor (3500)
3B N Arenado (4100) M Machado (3900)
SS T Turner (3700)
OF M Trout (4800) B Harper (4600) M Betts (4500) A Eaton (3500) A Benintendi (3300) J Pederson (3100)
Now onto the picks…
New to FanDuel? Scared of feeling like a small fish in a big pond? Well be sure to read our content and subscribe to the DFSBot for your daily baseball plays. Just remember to sign up through us before jumping into the fray. It’s how we know you care! ‘But I already have a FanDuel account’, you say? Well our FanDuel link ALSO shows you care by leading you to a daily $3 contest, letting them know that we let you know about it and them through us. It’s, like, totes radical!
Michael Pineda, SP: $8,200 – At this price I think Pineda gives you the best chance at a pitcher who can be the best on the slate at a discounted price and hopefully discounted percent. A few hitters have done damage to him in this lineup and the only one that really scares me is Miller. Pineda has solid splits against right handed hitters and left handed hitters and he’s in a very good pitchers ballpark. I have no problems using him with confidence everywhere.
Cameron Rupp, C: $2,400 – I first want to say you’ll need to watch the weather to make sure it’ll be ok. That being said this seems like a obvious pivot off the top guys, Rupp isn’t any good but he does hit lefties very well (almost .300 in his career). Also need to save somewhere to spend up at outfield.
Eric Thames, 1B $2,400 – First want to say both these guys may have a decent ownership (around 20%-30%) but its worth it for the price. After dominating in Korea (35+ homers double digit steals) he now starts at 1B for the Brewers. I realize his numbers won’t translate all year but this is a juicy match up and he hit in the 2 hole the first game of the year.
Tommy Joseph, 1B: $2,000 -This is gonna be chalky as well (maybe closer to 30%) but again for the price and the situation that’s ok. Again make sure you watch the weather, but if this game plays he’s gonna be nice. His career he’s a .281 hitter against lefties and had 7 homeruns last year in 100 abs (14 abs per home run).
Robinson Cano, 2B: $3,200 – Cano maybe off the radar because he’s had two ok games and hasn’t really popped to new players unlike Odor. But Cano’s history speaks for itself and last year he crushed 28 home runs against right handed pitching, use with confidence.
Kyle Seager, 3B: $3,500 – I want to first say I’ll probably use Machado here for obvious reasons but IF you want to go contrarian I have 2 guys for you. First is the unwanted Seager, Kyle Seager is a pretty boring player when it comes to seasonal but for daily he can really come up big on slates like this. You can always consider him against a right handed pitcher and against a bad righty just play him (if your not using Machado).
Travis Shaw, 3B: $2,800 – This one is a little less obvious but still a good idea as a contrarian play. He’s off to a hot start (4 doubles already) and hits right handed pitching ok over his career. He can come up big as a cheap option that hits in the middle of a solid offense.
Trea Turner, SS: $3,700 – I know he’s chalk but don’t over think this, just be a chalk eating weasel and move on.
Starling Marte/Andrew McCutchen, OF: $3,800/$3,300 – First I want to say ill probably have one of the chalk guys but I really like both of these guys playing in Boston even if its against Sale (who stream o nater doesn’t like). Marte is just a beast and one of my favorite players especially against lefties. Mccutchen is aging yes, doesn’t really steal anymore but he can still hit and bats in the top 3 of a good order.
Giancarlo Stanton, OF: $3600 – This is a no brainer really, any gpp lineup needs to have Stanton in it. His power is remarkable and he’s had some success off of Roark in his career. Play with confidence.
Billy Hamilton, OF: $3,200 – Similar to Stanton, Hamilton is almost a must play because of his speed. On Fanduel if you can get multiple steals from a guy you’re golden. Watch for the weather though.
Jarrod Dyson, OF: $2,600 – Again his speed makes him a good gpp play and the price helps you work in some expensive guys if you want to. I know he will probably bat 9th but even so he’s still a solid play for runs and a great play for steals.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
Lots of scary weather on the horizon tonight with CWSvsDET looking like another likely PPD. Say it with me, @MLB: retractable roofs required at every new venue from here on out…looking at you, Minnesota! Also scary looking is STLvsCHC and CINvsPHI. Be sure to check back in on all three prior to lock.
Doing Lines In Vegas
It’s early in the season so no major surprises to see some old standards. Padres suck so LADvsSD being the king line of the day with -260 isn’t a head scratcher, nor is seeing the Mets at -200 over an improved but still mediocre Braves team. BoSox and Sale at -200 against the Pirates at home also falls under the ‘no shocker here’ tagline. The runline in the TBvsNYY tilt has crept down from an opening 8 to a 7.5, making it an interesting go for both pitchers in that game, potentially. The real surprise move is Charlie Morton and Houston seeing the run total go from 9 to 7.5 and the line shift from -121 in favor of Seattle to -120 in favor of the Astros. Morton in GPPs anyone?
