Five whole weeks are in the books.  With twenty to go, quick math tells us we are ? (actually, it’s 17.45%) of the way through our season.  To those ahead in your Razzball Commenter Leagues, that might be exciting, but to those at the bottom of the barrel, that could be unwelcome news.  Is it possible you’ve already accumulated ? of your final stats for the season?  I don’t know…something just doesn’t sound right about that.  Vin has been providing regular updates of the first-round picks in the RCLs and where they are currently sitting on the player rater.  That right now is a pretty good indication of where teams sit.  Hopefully, plenty of time to turn things around though.  Next week we are planning to have Master Standings up and running, so we’ll keep this update short and sweet again.  I’m really looking forward to our first update and seeing who sits atop the RCL universe.  For now, let’s dive into week five!

‘PERTY ‘PERTS

Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land.  We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them.  The heading is also hyperlink, so feel free to follow along as we go.

Kirksey leaped over Coolwhip to take the top spot this week as Coolwhip dropped eight points.  That wasn’t the biggest drop of the week though, that dubious honor belongs to The Lineup Builder who lost 13 points and fell six places.  Grey made the biggest points gain this week, picking up 15.5 points and moving from last to tenth in the standings.  This is where it starts, Grey!

RAZZSLAM STANDINGS UPDATE

Each week we’ll also take a look at the top ten overall standings in our other Razzball sponsored league, the RazzSlam.  This is our NFBC Best Ball league with managers from all across the industry, from content providers to fans and readers just like you.

Clark Olson remains at the top of the standings for another week.  However, Eric Erhardt scored the most points of anyone this week (731) and moved from seventh to second!  So, look at that, changes do happen in points leagues sometimes.  Kirksey is still the only Razzball writer holding it down for the team.

Eugene Endres also had a great Razzslam week, moving up 125 places thanks to 714 points.  They now sit just outside the top 100 at 106.

TRADES

All the trades that have gone down in the past week.  Public ridicule is not only allowed, but encouraged.

DATE LEAGUE DETAILS
4/25/2024 RCL 6
Darksentencer33 traded Edouard Julien & Logan Webb to edg88 for Ozzie Albies
4/26/2024 Writers League
Duderinos traded Jose Caballero to Vin Hemingway for Heston Kjerstad
4/26/2024 DFSers Anonymous
Creative Chaos traded Fernando Tatis Jr. & Rhys Hoskins to Family Juliens for Matt Olson & Yoshinobu Yamamoto

Three trades went down this week including a semi-blockbuster involving FTJ, Matt Olson, and Yamamoto.  Usually, we look at who got the best player in a deal, but Olson and Yamamoto are nothing to sneeze at.  Which side of this deal do you all like best?  I’m torn.

The trade for Albies was perfectly timed.  Not sure anyone expected Albies to only miss the minimum 10 games there.  Well played.

WEEKLY LEADERS

The best of the best from the week that was.

R – 66 – Touch ’em all, Joe (RCL 33)

HR –20 – Ztztztxx (RCL 35)

RBIs – 56 – Laura Holt (NOTLZ)

SB – 18 – Zissou (RCL 16)

AVG – .331 – gilsonschmilsson (RCL 32)

K – 103 – mkoppi4610 (RCL 14)

W – 8 – 4 Teams Tied

SV –  12 – Stone Wizards (RCL 32) & Stretch Run Punchouts (RCL 10)

ERA (Min. 40 IP) – 0.49 – Again and again (COUGS R US) (in 55.2 IP)

WHIP (Min. 40 IP) – 0.628 – gilsonschmilsson (RCL 10) (in 49.1 IP)

We set a new low mark in weekly ERA this week, which was gilsonschmilsson’s second appearance on the list this week, with two different teams!  That name is a mouthful, but the numbers are awesome.

We also tied the stolen base mark and the strikeout mark this week.

Also of note this week, some interesting tidbits from Vin (hopefully you don’t make this list):

  • 77 teams had 0 saves.
  • 56 teams had an ERA over 5.
  • 20 teams hit under .200.

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Team: Zissou

League: RCL 16

Stats:   AVG: .259, R: 43, HR: 15, RBI: 52, SB: 18

IP: 57.2, ERA: 2.81, WHIP: 1.092, K: 61, W: 6, SV: 7

Summary: I sure hope this team name is in reference to Steve Zissou because that would make my heart happy.  If not, well, it’s still a very good RCL week.  It’s not often we have a TOW with more steals than HRs, but going 15/18 in a week is pretty bonkers.  On the offensive side of things, Bryson Stott and  Bobby Witt Jr. each drove in 8 runs and Witt added four stolen bases.  Elly De La Cruz contributed to the crazy by hitting a home run and stealing eight bases. EIGHT.  Why did I avoid this guy everywhere?  Is it wrong of me to wish a summer swan dive on his batting average after I shelled out for him last year in FAAB and his September dive cost me a championship?  The reason for wishing this?  Revenge.  Anyway, back to Zissou and on to the pitching side where Tyler Glasnow, Jared Jones, Bailey Ober, Cole Ragans, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Shota Imanaga all recorded victories.  The nice week moved Zissou up 10.5 points and into first place in RCL 16.  Nice work, congratulations…seriously.
