We’re back with a hot-off-the-presses Razzball Pod, and on today’s show we recap the past week including the Drew Pomeranz trade, Michael Conforto getting called back up, and how Yulieski Gurriel impacts the timeline of Alex Bregman.  We then go through some hot, hard-throwing pitchers including Chad Kuhl, and Dylan Bundy‘s stock in dynasty.  Lastly we review some hot schmotato bats, with one schmotato totally making Grey change his tune.  And if by tune you mean Joe Ross music, it makes another appearance!  Even though it’s more like going to the club with a massive hangover rather than dropping Molly, stupid Joe Ross’s shoulder…  Here’s out latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:

Currently sitting in 1st in a 12tm 6×6 OPS and Avg, QS and W SV+H, we keep 15. 30 man rosters, so fairly deep. It’s been a 3 man race for most of the season. I haven’t been able to acquire any bats as the bottom feeders start selling but my SP is Unreal. Take a look and tell me what you’d focus on improving in my Offense.

    C- S. Perez
    1B – Votto
    2B – Zobrist
    SS – Nunez
    3B – Donaldson
    MI – Segura
    CI – Longoria
    OF – HanRam
    OF – Eaton
    OF – Khris
    OF – Kepler
    OF – Choo
    UT – Solarte

    Bench – Pearce, Maybin
    DL – Bautista, Cron, Altherr

    SP – Scherzer
    SP – Darvish
    SP – Carrasco
    SP – Lester
    SP – Wright
    P – H. Rondon
    P – F. Rodriguez
    P – Dyson
    P – Romo
    P – Addison Reed

    Bench
    K. Hendricks
    Velasquez
    Bradley
    Kennedy
    Santiago

    DL – Kershaw

The IP limit is unreachable so I roll these guys.
When DL stint ends I don’t have to activate them at all, so I can bury guys. I plan on dropping Santiago when Kershaw returns.
Not sure who I drop for Bautista. My Avg is starting to fall off. I caught a lot of guys as they were heating up but don’t see them maintaining. Does anything standout to you? I have some nice flexibility to make up games down the stretch. I carried no bench on offense up until recently so I can try to max games going forward.

@DK: Damn, yeah Kershaw is only gonna help! Offense looks pretty good for such a deep league, nunez really was a home run add. Wow, I was about to say isn’t Steve Pearce still on the DL, but just seeing he’s getting activated today. Yeah your power is in decent shape, but that’s at the cost of some of that AVG. Khris, Kepler, what Joey B did. Steals looks pretty light. Maybe try to move one of your lower avg power guys ala Khris to get a lower end nice avg/steals guy that maybe has multi infield elig, someone like that. Dl situations a lot of times play themselves out, still have another 5-6 days at least for Kershaw, so you have more time to decide

The way Villar has played all year there’s no way Arcia comes up and bumps him. You think his Avg is sustainable? I’m only a few steals behind but as usual the Avg is a log jam so any bump would be big. Maybe I’d be better off trying to flip an arm for someone more established. At one point I could have done Max for Xander. Maybe I re open that discussion

        • DK says:

@DK: that was before I acquired Kershaw Wright and Lester. So I couldn’t justify losing my ace.

@DK: I don’t buy the AVG sustains for Villar. Steals will though. Keep an eye on Peraza, I’ve been touting him the past 2 weeks. If Bruce gets moved, he should be in line for everyday at bats in August+Sept and he has one less SB than Villar the last 30 days (in nearly half as many ABs). I’m banking on the Reds wanting to see what they have in the guy ROS.

          • DK says:

@knucks: Peraza is on ww but I can’t afford a sap on avg

@knucks: @DK: Villar is young, and I think well suited for 3B. Arcia shouldn’t “bump” him, but just move over his spot. I agree Villar’s avg should go down, but it’ll best Peraza by a bit. I like that deal if you can move Max for Xander, perfect fit for your squad, then you can shift around Zobrist and max out your ABs with great AVG in the infield

@JB Gilpin: JB, what about a 2 for 1 VV and Krush for Piscotty? I’m looking at Avg as my biggest gain in the standings. I sit. 272 with 4 teams. 273. You think VV gets shutdown?

@DK: VV is definitely getting shut down. Mannnn I would think Chris Davis could get more though! I know you need average, but I think you could aim a little higher

                    @JB Gilpin: it is Khris

@DK: I thought Crush was only for Chris Davis? Although with the K I guess it makes sense haha. I def like the deal with it being Khris Davis haha

Great show, JB! Chock full of info!

Thanks for the tip on Skaggs. Just added him for Paxton who has been a bit shaky/K’s are way down/is @TOR next so can’t really start him… Was Pax fooling us for his good stretch there? I see he fell in your most recent ranks.

    Have a good week!

@JakeTPE: Hah thanks man, thanks for listening! This was prob our most buttoned up show this year haha. Yeahhhh, he’s been free falling, and I think I put this in last week, but I think his arm slot change for more velocity has made him lost his feel for breaking pitches… Have a good week as well man!

JB you like Skaggs over Santiago or Bradley?

@Hugman: Haha somehow Grey’s player pronunciations get worse every show… He SHOCKINGLY got Yulieski Gurriel right every time though, I dunno what that was about!

  5. Jensen says:

If Dan Vogelbach got traded to an AL team and started ROS, what do you think his value would look like? He is just crushing AAA, the HR numbers aren’t out of this world but the OBP and SLG are ridiculous.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jensen: Ohhhh that’s a good one. I’d be pretty bold. might put him in the freddie Freeman range. .277 and about a 26-27 HR pace if it was a full year… That would seem about right

  6. Mario Leal says:

    Hi,

I’m currently at first place on my 10 team, H2H points league which has 25 stats to battle each Week.

Batting stats: R, H, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, AVE, OBP, SLG
Pitching stats: IP, W, L, CG, SHO, SV, BB, K, HLD, ERA, WHIP, K/9

Please rate my team and tell me which are my weakest points.

    C – Wilson Ramos
    1B – Eric Hosmer
    2B – Robinson Canó
    3B – Josh Donaldson
    SS – Xander Bogaerts
    OF – Mike Trout
    OF – Mookie Betts
    OF – Josh Reddick
    Util – Nick Castellanos
    Util – Evan Longoria
    DL – Dexter Fowler

SP’s – Johnny Cueto, Cole Hamels, Carlos Martínez, Jason Hammel, Aaron Sánchez, Drew Pomeranz, Brandon McCarthy, Rick Porcello and Taijuan Walker (DL)
RP’s – AJ Ramos, Cody Allen, David Robertson Steve Cishek

This is a 23 man Roster with 1 DL spot. I plan to put Walker on DL once Fowler gets back but who would you drop once Walker comes back?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Mario Leal: Well starting at the bottom, I think your drop is probably Reddick. But you can cross that bridge when you get there.

Your offense is pretty dominant. Definitely see your pitching as the weaker side, even though it’s pretty good as well

      • Mario Leal says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks!! I I was also thinking in dropping Reddick too. I have my concerns regarding Hammel (second half struggles), Aaron Sánchez (going to bullpen), Drew Pomeranz (moving to AL Beast), and Taijuan Walker (lots of inconsistecy).

What do you expect from them in the second half? should I try to trade them? what kind of return in pitching would you expect from them in a trade that would upgrade my team?

        Thanks again!!

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Mario Leal: Hammel and Sanchez I def would try to shop if you can get anything back. I don’t think either would get a ton though. I would hold onto Pomeranz off a bad debut and Walker who is still on the DL, I think their values are fairly deflated right now. Any time!
