Jam-packed!  Special edition!  New segment!  Cliche free!  Well, this Podcast write-up surely isn’t cliche free, but we have an awesome podcast this morning!  Our prospect guru Ralph Lifshitz joins us today to talk the MLB draft and profess his love for Kyle Lewis, then to some prospects that will impact redraft leagues like Alex Bregman, and finally a few deeper prospects to keep an eye for the future.  I spoiled one of his favorite A ball pitchers he wanted to write about in his next post, my bad!  Then of course Grey and I go through our normal shenanigans talking some hot pitchers, where Xander Bogaerts will rank next year, and some absolutely awesome segways if I don’t say so myself!  Here’s our latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:

There’s an inflexion to Grey’s laugh that sounds as if he’s about to yell “I’M COOCOO FOR COCOA PUFFS!”

    JB,

In need of a closer. Would you give up either Dee Gordon or Ozuna to get Melancon?

    Thanks.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Mike: Sure, yeah probably would Gordon, still a while he’s gonna be out and not like you can DL him

  3. Mark says:
    (link)

What are your thoughts on Danny Espinosa? It seems if he ever amasses 500-600 ab’s, he will get over 30 homers and hit 230-.240 in the process.

Will he do that and if so where would he rank in terms of value if you take his position scarcity into account?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Mark: Wellllll I dunno about 30. He’s just hot right now, and had that many ABs in 2011 and 2012 and hit 21 and 17, respectively. I think he’s a streamer MI while hot, that’s about it

      • Mark says:
        (link)

You are right. Maybe 25 is achievable. I figured he got a lot stronger than when he got a full season to get his 500 plus abs. So the jump from 21 to 30 might be within reach.

But I am swayed by his hot streak. I guess also, I see a guy hit 11 while mostly having a cold bat and at about 200 AB’s. So why not 30 at 550 AB’s.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Mark: Sure, yeah 25 I think would be the ceiling, but that’s as high as I would go. 10 games ago we woulda been at only 6 and we all thought he would lose his role to Trae Turner at some point, so hot streaks can def sway some perception, I just don’t think I am as swayed :)

  4. Ben says:

    JB,

I’m in a Keeper League 5×5 (OBP instead of AVG) and we have a $230 limit on rosters and keep 5 players. I’ve been at the bottom for most of the year and am starting to think more long term. I got offered Matz at $3 for my [email protected]$15 and Joe Ross @$15.

My SP includes already include [email protected]$3 , Bradley at $3, Conley @$2 [email protected]$15, [email protected]$3 and Zack Wheeler on the DL. Does this move make sense long term?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ben: Yeah it makes sense… I dunno Matz’s injury history scares me a tad. I might counter with Ross or Maeda and something else rather than offering both, I think one of those two (I obviously prefer Ross) at $15 is a value

  5. Chad says:

task rabbit is definitely still around. I to used it a couple weeks ago and the guy stood me up so I ended up moving kitchen appliances down 2 flights of stairs by myself, but otherwise its great! :/

@Chad: Hahaha I had never heard of it!

What is the time stamp that I am talked about?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Wil-I-Am: hah ummmm, you’ll have to listen to the whole thing to find it!

  7. GoodWood says:
    (link)

    Current pitchers:
JOfer, Salazar, Carrasco, Joe Ross, DeSclafani, Duffy, Jon Gray, McCullers, Taillon

Paxton, Snell are available…would you add either of those or both over current guys. Could possibly drop my extra batter D Peralta, Profar or Ellsbury for one if all should be owned.

Please Help quick cause I’m sure ppl will be grabbing quickly! !!

    • GoodWood says:
      (link)

      @GoodWood:
Thanks so much for any help!!!

      • Wildfire says:
        (link)

        @GoodWood:
        Also Shoemaker..

So of Paxton, Snell, Taillon, Duffy, Shoemaker, Jon Gray, DeSclafani, McCullers which 4 or 5 do you prefer ROS (K,W, QS, S, ERA, WHIP) are categories.

        Much love, thanks!

    • Will says:
      (link)

@GoodWood: I would drop DeSclafani for Paxton. Jon Gray would be my other concern just because he is in Coors during the summer months.

      • Wildfire says:
        (link)

        @Will:
Just dropped gray for Paxton and completely agree about DeSclafani thinking about dumping him for Snell or Shoe,,any preference?

        • Will says:
          (link)

@Wildfire: I don’t have a preference, except that the AL East is a tough division to pitch in, especially for a rookie

        • Wildfire says:
          (link)

          @Wildfire:

So pumped thanks for all advice..
Started the morning with: JoFer, Salazar, Carrasco, Joe Ross, Lance McCullers, Danny Duffy, Jameson Taillon, Jon Gray, DeSclafani, HRondon and Sam Dyson

Ended with Paxton and Snell over Gray and DeSclafani plus have Rich Hill on D/L.

If anyone has any advice on those moves or others to consider I’m completely open for discussion, thanks again RazzNation!

    • Will says:
      (link)

@GoodWood: thoughts on my SP options.

Available are Paxton ,Davies, and Snell

My staff is Carrasco, Carlos Martinez, Matz, Aaron Sanchez, Tillman, Salazar, McCullers, Taillon

I have ended up punting saves, but I have Dyson, Giles, and Miller to give me some options in my head to head league. Thoughts?

      • Wildfire says:
        (link)

        @Will:
I like Paxton best of those 3, little concerned about IP for Sanchez since I don’t believe he’s ever reached 100 in pro ball but I’m no scout so who knows. Heard good things about all three tho.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@GoodWood: @Will: @Wildfire: Yeah I would drop Desc for Paxton too. I prefer Shoemnaker over Snell, Snell’s walk rate still bothers me a little.

Will – I would take Paxton over Tillman. McCullers and Snell have similar risk/upside to me. Davies I think is riskiest with lowest ceiling, so I’d leave him on the wire

  8. Will says:

Bregman, Buxton, Reed, Baez. What is your order of relevance ROS?

Also who do you like better ROS Werth or Eaton?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Will: I’d say Buxton, Bregman, Baez Reed. Could change fluidly though, Buxton mainly bc he’s up now. I’d still take Eaton over Werth

Excellent show as always, JB! Great punch and you guys went overtime as well this week!

Ralph did some heavy lifting with the prospect talk–this is an important part of fantasy that lots of us just don’t have time (or the knowledge) to do, so it’s much appreciated–and his kid had some punch as well, huh?

Thanks for bringing up the Smyly question. I wasn’t going to start him this week so I let him go for Eikoff. So far so good. We’ll see if anybody claims Smyly tomorrow.

    Have a great week, JB!

@JakeTPE: Thanks so much man! Yeah we def ran long, I def got a prospect boner talking with Ralph! took us into overtime. Ralph Lifshitz Jr. definitely had the most punchiness! Haha.

Yeah Eikhoff long term still scares me a little, but this was a good start for sure.

Appreciate it, have a good week yourself my man!

Loved the podcast JB, really liked the knowledge Ralph was dropping and of course I enjoyed the SP talk to start it off. Good stuff as always. But lay off us short guys, I LOL’d about Pedroia falling off a high chair vs cliff, (Im like 5ft 7 and also used to play a decent 2nd and CF).

& for Grey: Who wins in a street fight?
Tag team A: Rodney Dangerfield & Bengie Molina
Or B: Brandon Inge & Dennis Eckerlsey?
