Turn off your football and stop worrying about the weather getting colder, it’s still baseball time!  We’re back with another edition of the Razzball Pod to prepare for the last week-and-a-half of action including Giancarlo Stanton returning to the starting line-up, the hottest hitters in baseball the past two weeks, and where Hanley Ramirez will rank in 2017.  Somehow Grey likes the oldies now!  But we make up for it projecting where Trea Turner is going to rank as well!  Dude is inhuman!  We also talk a few pitcher stream options for the next few days, and wrap with your commenter questions.  Here’s the latest edition of the Razzball Pod, now with less air conditioning!

    HILARIOUS podcast!
I lived in Linden & Elizabeth as a kid. Maybe you should have me as a guest on the podcast..LOL
Loved Barney Miller, very funny show.
Looking forward to the mock draft next week!

@Malicious Phenoms: Thanks so much man! Oh wow, you and Grey are from a famous-person town! Haha. Thanks again for listening, I’m pumped to mock as well!

@Grey: I’ll have to ask my sister..I do remember going to Warinanco Park in Elizabeth as a kid. I had grandparents in Elizabeth and in Rahway.

Great stuff guys! I was cracking up throughout the entire thing.

I’m not gonna lie, I kinda love how Grey gets all annoyed when he says “Ralph and Halp,” but I will change my half of the name if that makes it easier!

    • JB Gilpin

@Halp: Haha thanks man! Yeah I think it’s hilarious Grey keeps hating on the “Ralph and Halp” thing, don’t change anything for this little girl!

Ha ha. Nice show, JB. Hope you guys have Grey’s friends from Linden on the show. Would love to hear their stories. Nonsense coming out of all the extremities must have to do with the laugh. It would take method acting lessons to get that laugh-giggle down. Will try to finish the last 15 mins later as I think you guys talked about relievers.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@jb: Appreciate it! Hah, we’ll see if Grey can make it happen. Grey is nothing but a nonsensical extremity shooter! Nah just some streaming pitchers and a few comments from the post, it’s tough to stay relevant talking relievers with a one-a-week show.

    JB & Grey

In the middle of the podcast – luv it! Big Barney Miller fan, have the dvd box set, great show!!

Do I dare sit Robbie Cano tonight against lefty Happ? Cano has been cold the last 14 days.

Do I run Marcel Ozuna out there against Roark? His numbers against him are solid.

I’m sitting Duvall tonight against Lester. Good call?

    Thank you Sirs!

@Racehorse: Hah thanks man! Yet another reference Grey threw at me I’ll need to check out haha.

Ummm, I’d probably still play Cano and Ozuna, but yeah I don’t mind sitting Duvall, depends on if you need a bat for your lineup tonight

  9. Spyre says:

I’ve always wondered about ESPN ownership stats too.
Why is Trout ownership at 99.3%?
What leagues have Trout on waivers?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Spyre: Hah yeah it doesn’t make any sense! Maybe there’s some anti-Angels leagues… Or maybe they pull in data from NL only leagues…?

  10. Martin says:

    RICK PORCELOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You should be proud of a fellow NJ’er, Grey!

Still like him more than you two (think 3.5 ERA 1.10 Whip 16 wins /yr), but will definitely look to sell this year in my dynasty. I do think that the type of pitcher he is plays dividends to getting more wins – Very consistent and not too many blow ups.

As for the ownership numbers, I’m guessing that there are some shallower leagues (ex. 6 team leagues) that skew the results. Villar should be owned everywhere, but it’s not as crazy when there are 6 teams “fighting” it out.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Martin: Well 9 wins last year, with tons of blow ups! Less Ks this year, and as we mentioned, worse xFIP somehow. Just seems like he had a dream outlier season.

Ah, yeah good point on like 4 and 6 team leagues haha

                @Grey: Haha!

Touche with that article, Grey. Maybe I’ll get banned from sabermetric communities for saying this, but I really DO think like psychology – ex. confidence plays a role in a pitcher’s season. You can definitely see a situation when a pitcher gets lucky and attributes it to skill, which then allows them to be more confident with their pitches. This can make a difference with how the pitch is thrown etc.

                • JB Gilpin

                  JB Gilpin says:
                  (link)

@Grey: @Martin: I can buy into thise, we definitely try to dehumanize the game by looking at sabrematrics for sure. Confidence is certainly a real thing. Although, it’s impossible to quantify obviously, what if Porcello has two bad starts in 2016 then tries to overcorrect something and the wheels fall off again?

                • Grey

                  Grey says:
                  (link)

Confidence is a big part of baseball, hitting and pitching… I’m just saying a guy wins the Cy Young doesn’t mean everything…

                  • Martin says:
                    (link)

@Grey: Agreed! Super weak year in terms of AL Cy Young frontrunners.

RANDOM PREDICTION THAT WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO KNOW IF I’M RIGHT – Porcello in 2017 has a worse year if he wins the cy-young in 2016 than if he doesn’t.

I was drinking at Manitoba’s in Alphabet City years ago and I thought I came close to getting my ass kicked by the old drunks around me (I’m not a little girl Jew because I’m at least 5’6″–maybe a budding young lady Jew?) because I wouldn’t agree that all baseball fans are natural fans of boxing. The football/baseball discussion reminds me of that. JB, your role was played by a bunch of angry wasted guys who probably played keyboards for the New York Dolls for 3 shows in the 1970s.

Holy shit – just discovered this podcast/site/font of knowledge. Wish it was beginning of baseball season but I can’t wait for next and will definitely try an RCL. I’ve been binge listening to the show now for days straight at work and am hooked – back to may already. It’s fun hearing the bits in reverse and getting to their inception. However the highlight might be the reveal that Grey had no idea JB played outtakes. So happy this site exists and love the daily wrapups of Greys. I’ll be on here a lot.

Also have a keeper question – 12 team mixed league deep dynasty league standard 5×5 scoring points. Span or Revere?

Thanks for the baseball content but just as much for the laughs. I love fantasy baseball but everywhere else it’s either written dry as hell OR trying to be funny (way worse) combining the two effectively is uniquely razzball and basically the best.

cheers – keep your powder dry – dave schimmer where are you???????????
