Wooooo, the Razzball Baseball Pod is back for our first 2017 edition!  Drop the confetti!  On today’s show, we catch up on metronomes, the Lifetime remake of Beaches, and why critics are trying to make everyone like Westworld more than actually liking Westworld.  Oh yeah, baseball!  We catch up on the Edwin Encarnacion signing with the Indians, Danny Duffy‘s ranking after his extension with the Royals, and Kendrys Morales as a nice value pick in the later rounds.  We also hit on some SAGNOF and our favorite Top Chef combatants.  Of course there would be a big Dodgers-Rays trade right after we recorded, but that’s how it goes!  …clap clap clap clap, now with better timing!  Here’s the latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:

JB what are your thoughts on Gerrit Cole this year? Think he bounces back? Curious as to where you have him ranked in a points league?

If you guys start taking calls the readers need to band together and go full Jose Canseco on you guys. Constant hang ups.

Glad you guys are back.

I love the TV and Movie talk I have watched a few things the two of you recommended mainly True Detective Season 1 and welcome more of it.

Also every time my wife brings up that she has nothing to watch I respond with “Beaches?” because of you guys. Already sent a text asking if you she knew of the remake and of course she did despite never watching that DVD in almost two years of marriage.

Yes! My favorite metronoming duo are back! Keep up the rhythmic pulses!

The damn Joe Ross song always cracks me up. Please continue with that stupid gag.

Who looks more like a future fantasy star: Dahl or Bregman? I’ve heard your Biggio comp for Bregman, but I don’t think I’ve heard a comp for Dahl. Would you say Blackmon is comparable (statistically/on the hoof)?

You guys rule and make me so stoked!

I have a long trip tomorrow so this is perfect timing. I look forward to everything but hearing you guys potentially trashing Westworld?? I love that show and haven’t stopped thinking about Dolores since the last ep.

@Grey: In all seriousness I would definitely listen to a podcast where you guys discuss tv/movies etc… it would be cool to get your (mysterious) insider take.

I’d like to discuss that too, maybe we’ll talk more about them…

Love the return of these! 2017 has had too few cackles.

JB, what’s your read on Brinson and his ETA? Would love to stash him in my 12 team keeper, but wondering when we can expect regular ABs for him . . . seems like Broxton (another guy I’m really interested in as an OF5 type), Braun, and Santana are pretty entrenched.

@JB Gilpin: Any non-Moncada/Benetendi prospects who you’d stash over him for 2017 impact, with an eye on keeper value too?

I’ve got him, Meadows, and Tapia on my shortlist (not sure who I like best if they were all to get a starting job). . . but all are in sort of the same boat, with Meadows and Tapia needing injury or trade to open a spot. If I’m grabbing Broxton too, I guess a good argument could be made to have Brinson as Broxton insurance.

Hesitant to draft any prospect pitchers like Giolito/Glasnow/Hader…

JB, actually have a baseball keeper/trade question in a points league since I’m having a hard time waiting for your SP ranks. We can keep 4 guys, the round listed is the round I get to keep them in for this season. I’m keeping Bum (5th round) for sure, and most likely Price (4th), my other options are Harvey (9th) Bregman (12th) Urias (12th) and Reyes (12th). I’m leaning Bregman and Urias, although it’s hard to throw back Harvey with that kind of value. I could keep him and throw back Price. I also have the 1st overall pick and I own Kershaw, so I’m throwing him back and then drafting him 1st. However, I just had a trade offer for Kershaw where the other guy sends me Goldy (6th round). I would still get the 1st overall pick since Kershaw is on my roster, but Goldy would be taking the place of one of my keeper options. If I’m not drafting Kershaw 1st, some of my options would be Carrasco, JV, Miggy, and possibly Yu and Lester, although the last 2 might be kept. I also have the first pick of the 2nd and 3rd rounds, after that point it becomes a regular snake draft. Love Goldy’s value, but I have a hard time giving up the option of Kershaw at 1, and then using my 2nd and 3rd round picks on hitters. What do you think?

@JB Gilpin It is a H2H points league, so I’m definitely torn about trading away the best player in our league. Even though getting Goldy in the 6th is great value. What are your thoughts on Arrieta and Stras this year? I was also offered by another guy both of them for Kershaw and my 7th round pick, or my 2nd & 3rd round picks for Stras & his 3rd, I’ve owned Stras in this league multiple times, and I always feel snake bit. But if he wasn’t being kept, he’d definitely go in the top 4-5 picks, and he’s a 6th round keeper to boot. Although his keeper value wouldn’t effect me this season since the owner is using him as a keeper and then we’d deal at the draft.

@JB Gilpin how worried about Noah’s elbow are you? I know it’s just bone spurs, but still… I could possibly trade Kershaw straight up for Noah and his elite keeper value (10th round), but IP is such a huge factor in H2H points leagues, plus bonus points for complete games and shutouts. Hard to see Noah consistently going much more then 7 innings any given night.

@JB Gilpin think Price rebounds slightly this year? He was extremely hittable last year. Still put him ahead of guys like Yu Stras and Carrasco just based on health, or would put them ahead? I have the option of trading Price for Schwarber, who is an 11th round keeper this year and open up my 4th round pick.

@JB Gilpin how high (or low) are you on Darvish this year? I have an offer of Darvish and Blackmon for Kershaw. I’d be able to keep Darvish as a 3rd this year and Blackmon as a 11th, and I would still have the 1st overall pick in the draft. So guys like Lester, Archer, Carrasco, Miggy, Altuve all will be available at that spot. I’d keep Yu, Blackmon, Bum and Bregman or Urias in the 12th. What are your thoughts?

@JB Gilpin yeah, I’ve definitely been getting swamped with offers for Kershaw. I’ve gotten a few others like Kershaw for Scherzer/Odor, but then I’d be forced to keep Max in the 1st, which would defeat the purpose of keeping 4 guys and drafting Kershaw. Was also offered Gerrit Cole for my Price, which I’m debating. Cole still has 8th round value, so I might do that one.
