More likely to fall off by all star break: Rich Hill or Alex Wood? (Who’s had some pretty good starts recently.)

@Christian Herman: Ohhhhh good one! I’d say Wood, but I’ll ask on Pod next week

@JB Gilpin: I’ve fell for wood before! Really thought last year he would be a top 25-30 SP in mixed leagues.

@Christian Herman: Yeah I really had the wood for Wood too haha. Nice to see velo up, but seems he’s always been a deception guy and I kinda figured hitters were figuring that out the past few seasons…

Also thoughts on Richards waiting & not getting TJ? Has that ever worked? Lol

@Christian Herman: I don’t like it one bit. Sure yeah Tanaka did it, I think Wainwright pitched a lot of years with a tear, Ervin Santana the same, lower-scale but pretty sure Tyler Thornburg for my Brewers had UCL damage, opted for no surgery and looks great now

@Christian Herman: tanaka is “doing it” but remember back when he was a top 10 SP? he was before he needed this, probably would be again (even by now) had he had the surgery he still needs about nearly 2 years ago now.

Not sure if its blue or red (its not white). But this was as Hawaiian-punchy as I needed it to be. Good start to the week fellers. ‘Merica.

Hey JB! Great stuff as always. Definitely some punch in that podcast. It wins the Pulitzer for Punch!

Yes on Brandon Maurer! Smokey was also touting him last week for the Holds goodness. Hey, has Grey thought about expanding the SAGNOF empire? (www.sagnof.com IS available as of today!)

For example, speaking of Brandon Maurer. He’s the poster boy of HAGNOF — Holds Ain’t Got No Face… Or you’re trawling the wire for that 6-inning, 3 ER guy: QSAGNOF (pronounced “qua-sag-nof) — Quality Starts Ain’t Got No… Finally, you’re looking for guys who can take a walk (and not much else). Hello, end-of-career David Wright! OBPAGNOF (“ob-pag-nof”) On-Base Percentage Ain’t Got… OK I’ll stop (lest I unwittingly offend a Native American/First Nations group or something).

Question for you, sir, if I may: I’ve got Yu and Ryu (Hey!) on the DL. Yu is likely back first and I have a drop for him, but if Ryu looks good, do you prefer him over Rodon, Ventura, or Karns? Karns seems most stable so far, Ventura always seems to spend the first half of the season fighting/being injured/figuring his sh*t out before coming on in the second half (by which time last season I’ve dropped him), and Rodon has flashed but it’s always one inning that does him in. Who to drop/trade (if I can get anything). Feel free to point me to your ranks if it’s clear cut.

Thanks and have a great week!

@JakeTPE: Hah thanks man! A pulitzer puncher!

Hahahaha I’ll ask Grey on next week’s show, he needs to nab that address! Yeah I owned Maurer in REL (SV+HLD league) but sadly traded him as I needed to rebuild…

Haha yeah there are all sorts of NOFs! On hoops I created the very popularly used “ThrAGNOF”. “Threes aint got no face” as in 3PT shooters can be overvalued in hoops.

Mehhhh, not been a big Ryu guy for a while, given I think all of it has been injury concern. If Ryu looks good, might be Ventura out first for me. Def not clear cut bc I would need to see Ryu’s first start off the DL before even considering him in the ranks, but if he looks good, he could indeed crack the 60-70 range.

Any time man, have a good one!

        (link)

@JB Gilpin: ThrAGNOF! That’s great! Thanks for the advice. I think I can keep Ryu stashed for for his first start, and a lot can happen before then besides. Will keep an eye on your ranks!

@JakeTPE: Hah thanks man, yeah been a term for years now! Has the same roll off the tongue too ha.

Cool, yeah def good you can hold him in DL to see what happens. Sounds like a plan!

10 team Yahoo league 7×7 Head to Head –
Hitter categories are H R HR RBI TB S AVG
Pitcher categories are IP W L SV HR K ERA.

    Looking at the following trades:
I give up: Clayton Kershaw, Matt Carpenter, Adrian Beltre, and JD Martinez
I get: Nolan Arenado, JA Happ, Cole Hamels, and Starling Marte.

Second trade is the same except remove Martinez and Marte from each side. Thanks.

      @jdub01984: Whoa, massive deals!

I think it all comes down to the rest of your team. If you’re stashed at pitcher, I do it. You get some great bats back. If pitcher is iffy I might hold off. And I think I’d wanna enforce getting Marte back to do it, it doesn’t seem as good to me with those guys dropped off.

      • jdub01984 says:

        @JB Gilpin:

My other SP pitchers are: Adam Conley, Kenta Maeda, Jeff Samardzija, Francisco Liriano, Tyler Glasnow, and Jameson Taillon. My RPs: Wade Davis, Aroldis Chapman, Alex Colome, Jeremy Jeffries, and Will Smith in the DL spot.

My hitters are: Wilson Ramos, Davis Ortiz, Manny Machado, Stephen Piscotty, Jason Heyward, Justin Upton, Chris Carter, Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, and Travis d’Arnaud on the DL.

We have a 45 inning minimum per week, and I was planning on adding Joe Panik to fill my 2B slot after trading Carpenter.

        Thanks for the advice.

@jdub01984: Eesh yeah your starters are pretty low end to try and fill the Kershaw void. And hitters look pretty solid. I would hold off on either version of that deal right now

Would I actually be losing my mind to start jake lamb over Franco? I haven’t watched the Phillies live, but from a Franco owner, I’m kind of overwhelmed. Payed more than asking price on draft day. Thought he would break out already. & basically was ensured a breakout off of spring ball play (Ryan Rayburn led in homers & RBIs I realize it means nothing)

    Ben Revere or Denard Span?

My Wikipedia page describes me as “goofy” not once, not twice, but a whopping three (!) times. Who am I?

*BONUS: There’s a pretty perfect gift for Razzballers hidden in the “Personal” section of that Wiki page, having to do with a certain former teammate of this player who publicly “corroborated” his goofiness in the Philly Inquirer…

      JB Gilpin says:

@Duda Want to Build a Snowman?: Hah, I’m gonna guess Revere! The Philly part I think gave it away, but I’m gonna pull up the wiki now!

        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Ah, I should have taken that part out. I was looking at the wiki + was already happy enough seeing the 3 “goofy” mentions . . . and then to find the final one being a Denard Span quote??? Perfect.

So, should I be buying low on Liriano or selling low? Have in one league and wondering what my next options should be?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@9thwomanreader: Ugh, I would say another usable start and I might sell high, but I think it’s more a waiting pattern than necessarily selling. We know when he has his control he can be must start
