Sadly, we talk a lot about baseball this Patreon podcast. I know, I know, I KNOW! I’m sorry. You don’t pay us the very, very small amount of sixteen cents per day to hear about baseball. You want dong talk! Well, you’re not getting much of it this week. Less schlong, more baseball, that’s what I always say after reading that line off a bathroom stall. To discuss baseball, we welcome our very own prospect writer, Prospect Itch. During our spirited chat, we wrestle with some questions like:  When will baseball return? What will it look like when it does return? And, perhaps most importantly, what will the fantasy baseball prospect rankings look like if — heaven forbid — there’s no baseball season?

Also, on today’s show, we dial up Lenny Dykstra, because that’s now as likely to happen at the beginning part of our podcasts as our theme song. He’s a joy to talk to as always. It’s shameful that joy lasts roughly fifteen seconds. You see, he’s busy. *very slow side-eyed glance* Riiiiight. Then we discuss some TV shows we’ve seen this week, and discover Itch is watching shows from 2012 like Legion. Then we discuss how Ford vs. Ferrari is as complicated a movie to understand as it’s incredibly mysterious title. Wait, it’s not Ferrari vs. Ford, huh? Crazy. Who would’ve guessed it? Finally, we discuss how I will never become a barber or ever go within five feet of my head again with clippers. Here’s some visual aids for those who like to mock me:

    Grey!!

    Great podcast, enjoyed it!

    a. Did Puig sign somewhere? What the hell is happening with ANY news apart from Kris Bryant clocking his exit velocity and launch angle at home?

    b. MLB quote of the day for July 31, 1988

‘It took a great deal of acceptance to come to terms with being an alcoholic but acceptance was the key to my sobriety… If I didn’t have acceptance at that time in my life I would not be standing here today.’

Dennis Lee Eckersley, aka ‘Eck’. So many accolades for Eckersley (what the ‘eck?), my favorites are.

    1. In 1990, his WHIP and ERA were the same – 0.614.
    2. In 1990, he became the first relief pitcher to record more saves (48) than baserunners allowed (41H, 4BB, 0HBP)

    Cheers,
    Ante

      Thanks, Ante!

      A. Not yet on Puig — MLB took 3 and a half weeks of a 4-week timetable to get the players a proposal and now they can sit on it for a few weeks to show they can stall too

      B. That’s a good quote for today’s pod

      1. That is so insane

      2. Equally nuts — Check out the year Duane Ward had in 91 — actually the whole Jays’ bullpen in the early 90s — they seem like they invented modern bullpens

        Grey!!!

        a. Yes, Jays’ bullpen was all that. Henke in the 80s was also pretty good even if the team was always somewhere in the middle of the pack of the AL East.

        b. Am trying to make a connection at least between the last quote and today’s quote. Last Friday was Rollie Fingers and today’s quote Eckersley. Tune in tomorrow for the connection between Eckersley and tomorrow’s quote (if there is any connection at all, spoiler alert!).

        c. Ragnarok is the bomb, my son and I can connect watching. Also Gangs of London is also the bomb, our son and I can connect on this one. It is plot, story, blood and guts from the very beginning right to the very end of each and every episode. White Lines also shaping up and I like The Great, looking for Croatian subtitles is giving me fits.

        Cheers,
        Ante

          A. Their relievers were regularly getting 100+ IP and dominating…I wonder if that’s where Torre got the idea to wear out Proctor and others

          B. Haha, awesome!

          C. I haven’t watched Ragnarok yet, but I’m watching Beforeigners this week and it has a commonality… It’s HBO Europe, if that helps you find it

            Grey!

Thanks for the tip on Beforeigners. Looks good.

Yeah, I have got to keep the quote thing together for brothers and sisters! I’ll do managers as well as the season progresses.

            Cheers,
            Ante

I was going to recommend Beforeigners to Donkey Teeth but it’s got subtitles

                Grey!!!

First of all, many thanks for Beforeigners. Already subtitles queued up!

Second of all, The Sleepers!!! On the same HBO Europe, look up The Sleepers. You need subs ’cause it’s in Czech. Don’t be discouraged by this fact, it is awesome. Also for this subs queued, so thanks a million again.

Thirdly, DT and subtitles!!! Although his same Ragnarok has subtitles too unless he’s watching something that’s dubbed into English. I hate that a lot.

                Cheers,
                Ante

I wonder if Sleepers is also on HBO here — that’s where I found Beforeigners — didn’t need to DL it from somewhere

DT watches things that are dubbed and doesn’t even know they were meant to be subtitles — I don’t know what to do with him

It’s the curse of the youth. Our daughter turns 20 this July. She needed to read one book and then make up sh*t to pass her psych SAT test to get into the psych program she wanted. Of course, she didn’t read it. So instead of being armed with the book and a wing and a prayer, she was armed with just a wing and a prayer and didn’t pass, obvi. This same young person admires the Mayor of our capital city who’s been elected 6 times in a row and who thinks he’s done a great job because of it. It’s a struggle with the youth these days. She’s so easily swayed except when we try to do it. If it’s an idea from us, she runs for the hills.

                    Cheers,

*shakes fist at clouds* Damn kids!

I think it’s indicative of nothing really either…I wouldn’t have watched a subtitled TV show at 20 years old either

  2. I didn’t even know you could catch aids visually until I saw these photos…

My stomach went straight past upset and is now flat out furious!

Me thinks these homemade artisan cuts are going to be all the rage next fashion week and we are just whey ahead of the curb.

    Huzzah!
