As a millennial, I’m too young to know what Monty Python is, all I know is that I’ve heard the name before. My Google search led me to a couple of YouTube videos of skits from the show. It turns out it was a British comedy show from the 60’s and 70’s dubbed as the “Beatles of comedy”. I got a little sidetracked this morning with my writeup as I was glued to the skits. Now that I’ve shown my age, or lack thereof, let’s get to the article. Jordan Montgomery is a high risk, high reward pitcher today going up against the Rays. The Yankees bullpen is absolutely disgusting so Monty only needs to go 6 innings strong and the bullpen will take over from there. The Ray’s offense has been awfully inconsistent and there is no telling when they’ll strike like a python. History shows that they are among one of the worst teams when facing left-handed pitching as far as average and k% go. Monty’s price is discounted at $15,600 and has a high upside today. The key to this start will be getting through the first inning quickly. Monty has an opportunity to rack up the K’s against this offense. Since the Ray’s offense is so unpredictable I would only start Monty in GPP formats today.

Gerrit Cole, SP: $21,300 – It’s hard to pass up an elite pitcher against the Padres at Petco Park. The price is high but Cole should have no issues mowing down this lineup. Cole has K upside and this lineup is prone to striking out. His ownership will likely be high today, so you may want to fade him in GPP’s.

Lance Lynn, SP: $16,400 –  I just couldn’t help myself and neither should you. Lance has been balling on a budget this month. His k rate is nothing spectacular however he has done a great job limiting runs lately. His ERA this month is 1.17 through his last 30 innings. His success really comes from limiting the longball. The Diamondbacks haven’t been particularly great this month as they have .236 average with a 25.5 k%. Just to add to that, they have also been awful on the road. Lynn’s price, at $16,400, makes him a great play in cash and GPP.

Hanley Ramirez, IF: $8,400 – Hanley has been quietly heating up lately and gets a favorable matchup against Jason Hammel. He has 2 homers in his last 7 games and 6 for the month of July. The Yankees just pulled ahead of a sluggish Red Sox team and you better believe their going to be hungry today.

Kris Bryant, IF: $9,200 – The power has seemed to disappear momentarily for Kris Bryant but the contact is still there. Davies dominated the Cubs in their last matchup however I think the Cubs will get their revenge at Miller Park today. Kris Bryant has a good chance to go deep in this hitter friendly park against a pitcher who gives up a lot of fly balls.

Robinson Cano, IF: $7,600 –  I’m not sure what is wrong with Robbie lately but he has been awful and his price shows that. The Mariners are facing Seth Lugo, who has had his own struggles posting a 5.47 ERA. This has bounce back game written all over it. At this price, it’s hard to pass up Cano with a favorable matchup.

Josh Donaldson, IF: $8,800 –  I think his price is super high given his performance since he’s been back from the injury but I really like his matchup today. Jesse Chavez has the 5th highest HR/9 this season and is pitching in the hitter friendly park in Toronto. There is no better time for Donaldson to go on a tear.

Andrew McCutchen, OF: $9,300 – I like Cutch’s high price as I think he will be under-owned. He’s been great against left handed pitching this season sporting a .316 average with 7 homers. Clayton Richards 5.37 ERA is very welcoming in this matchup.

Kyle Schwarber, OF: $8,000 –  It’s been difficult to predict when Schwarber is going to go off with his below .200 batting average. This seems like a good matchup for him today in a hitter friendly park. I won’t be playing him in cash games since he is so unpredictable but I will give him a shot in my GPP lineup.

Ryan Braun, OF: $8,700 – Braun has been quiet in the month of July but gets a favorable matchup against John Lackey who has been serving up home runs all season. I wouldn’t be against stacking Braun with Eric Thames as there should be some balls leaving the park today.

There is nothing to see here folks. Everything appears to be clear for a great day of baseball.

James Paxton and the Seattle Mariners come in as the heavy favorites today at -235. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone as Paxton has been dominant and the Mets have been a train wreck. We have 4 games with a run total of 8.5 and they are the Reds vs. Marlins, Diamondbacks vs Cardinals, Mets vs. Mariners, and Pirates vs. Padres. Here are the games with run totals over 10 today, Angels vs. Blue Jays and Orioles vs. Rangers. Please note the 2nd game between the Nationals and Rockies will not be on the main slate for FantasyDraft.
