Zack Wheeler ($7,700) takes the mound today against an impotent Padres offense. San Diego is hitting a cool .220 against right-handers this season. If you are into advanced stats, they have posted a 76 wRC+ against RHP in 2014. Any way you slice it, they suck. For less than $8K, I’m putting just about anybody out there against the Padres especially in their pitching-friendly ballpark. Wheeler isn’t just a warm body, though. He has posted a K/9 of 8.7 with a ground ball percentage of 54%. The walk rate is a little high at 3.8 BB/9, but in each of his last two starts he walked only two and gave up only one earned run. The Padres did tag Dillon Gee for some runs last night, but they also struck out eight times. I’m confident Wheeler will put the Padres’ bats back to sleep and provide DFS players with a great value today.

Alex Wood, SP: $7,400 – Wood is another value play today against the Phillies. Wood got nicked up in his last start, but the Phils’ 96 wRC+ against left-handed pitching is middle of the road on the year. The last time Wood faced them was in April when he struck out seven and allowed only one earned run in Philadelphia.
Chris Carter, 1B: $4,800 – Carter’s OPS over his last ten games is 1.200 and he’ll have the platoon advantage today against left-hander John Danks. Carter only has six at bats against Danks, but he’s taken him deep twice in two of them. Danks allowed three homers in his last start against the Astros. One of them was to Carter. The other two belonged to Matt Dominguez ($3,500). He’s worth a look today too.
Jason Heyward, OF: $4,200 – I dip into the Heyward well a lot, but it’s not without a good reason. He’s slashing .360/.385/.510 with a homer and two steals over his last ten games. He’ll have the platoon advantage today against Phillies right-hander Kyle Kendrick at home. Heyward always seems to do something to contribute to my DFS teams whether it’s taking walks, stealing bases, or getting hits.
Jose Bautista, OF: $5,000 – The Texas/Toronto game has the largest line of the day at 9 1/2, so drafting Blue Jay players against Nick Tepesch isn’t a bad idea. My personal fave in DFS is Joey Bats, who has struggled lately but whose 148 wRC+ still ranks in the top 15 in baseball.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
There’s a slight chance of storms in Atlanta, but other than that we’re in the clear.
Doing Lines In Vegas (10-13)
I’ll take the under in San Diego. I’m starting to sound like a broken record but it’s been working.
