Only three weeks remain in this grueling season, twenty-three down three to go.  It is happening up to be a two-horse race as we come down the stretch.  This is a position that FFB is very familiar with, it’s like 2019 all over again.  Instead of Backdoor Splitters, it’s Milo The Cat putting the heat on FFB.  Both teams are putting that top-notch League Competitive Index to use.  I have mentioned both leagues in past updates, but as a refresher, Cougs is a league of past overall top 12 finishers and NOTLZ is a $100 league and always one of our most competitive.  I love when the top leagues are represented at the top of the standings.  I always feel like those that win these leagues should be rewarded because they are grueling.  It’ll be fun watching this two-team battle in the final few weeks.  Most years, this is what we see, two teams separating themselves from the back and battling right to the end.  I shouldn’t root for anyone, but if FFB finishes second overall twice, that would be pretty brutal.  More on who had a great week, the remainder of the top 10, and an update on the ‘Perts League below in the week that was week 23:

I hope everyone has recovered from their Labor Day festivities.  The unofficial end of summer means we’re into the nitty-gritty of Razzball Commenter League action.  My weekend was loaded up with fantasy football drafts (thanks DT, Blair & Son for helping me cram at the last minute) but that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten about baseball.  We certainly haven’t lost track of our RCLs, in fact, this is the point where we’re pulling out all the stops to scrape up every last point we can manage.  We’ve got a bug in the Master Standings at the moment that is making the top spot look a lot closer to the pack than it is.  If we don’t watch out, it’s going to be a runaway victory for our overall leader.  Who is that leader you ask?  It’s a name you’ll recognize if you read this column at all.  We’ll cover that, the rest of the top 10, and all of the week that was week 22 below:

Congratulations, you made it to the weekend.  This time next week, the NFL will have kicked off and the MLB will be an afterthought to all but the most hardcore of MLB DFS degenerates.  So, let’s enjoy the final weekend of pools filled with fish before they all start throwing their money at NFL contests.  We’re going to kick this weekend off with some Tyler Mahle ($9,600).  Mahle gets to take on the terrible Tigers, they of the bottom ten team OPS and top five in team strikeouts.  Mahle, meanwhile, has been incredibly useful rocking a 10.6 K/9 and a 3.64 ERA.  The Reds shouldn’t have any trouble knocking Matthew Boyd around to get Mahle a win either.  I’ll be locking Mahle into a good portion of lineups tonight and hoping to make some cash before contests start shrinking.

As the air starts to turn a bit cooler, the calendar flips to September and a large group of fantasy baseballers turn their attention to fantasy football.  Go ahead, wave at Donkey Teeth.  There are only five weeks left in the fantasy baseball season but what an important five weeks they are.  As the rest of your league checks out to go play the fantasy sport that requires only one day per week of roster setting (or as I like to refer to it, chess vs. checkers) the true competitors remain to grind it out for Razzball Commenter League glory.  Right now only a few points separate the top teams in the Master Standings, so we should be in for a heck of a finish.  This week, we’ll take a look at the year-long RCL records and what teams have a shot at setting new ones.  Does your team have a shot at the RCL record books?  Find out this and more in the week that was, week 21:

Week twenty has come and gone, a week that always seems to mark a turning point in the RCLs for me.  We’re out of the teens and into the twenties, with only a handful of weeks remaining.  My eyeballs really turn to those innings pitched limits right about now, as I try to make sure all of my teams are above 1,000 IP so I don’t need to stream anything that walks the final week of the season.  This is also the time of year where I start to loosen up my requirements for holding players a bit.  Fourth outfielders that I would typically keep, may get dumped to waivers in favor of someone with a better match-up or an actual match-up if that fourth outfielder has an off day.  I’m looking at all those Claims Remaining some of my teams have right about now and thinking, “I can’t take those with me”.  The race is on for counting stats and you can bet your Cheetos, the top RCL teams will be using every move available to them.

Eduardo?  More like, Eduar…dough, amirite?  No one?  Alright, I understand, Eduardo Rodriguez ($9,800) has been far from money this season but that 3.34 FIP and that 11.3 K/9 just keep drawing me in and suggest we should see a really strong finish for Eddie.  That strong finish started three starts ago, since that game it’s been 16.1 IP, 2 ER, and 24 strikeouts.  Yum.  Tonight, it’s the Texas Rangers coming to town with their league-worst .657 team OPS.  Double yum.  The only thing that can stop Eddie from a money performance is if Hurricane Henri decides to speed up and land before Sunday.  As of right now, this game should play without any issue and I’m looking to cash in.

We are back this week with more stats than you can shake a stick at!  Rudy and the RCL Bots have returned giving us three weeks’ worth of numbers to parse through.  We’ve had quite a few shake-ups in three weeks of the Razzball Commenter Leagues.  The trade deadline has come and gone and it’s really getting to be crunch time now.  We only have about seven weeks remaining, but that’s still enough time to make a move.  Just ask the teams who just had amazing three-week stretches.  We’ll take a look at those outstanding weeks, all the last-minute trades that went down, updates in the ‘Perts League, and more for the week that was week 19.

We’ve got a full slate of Tuesday DFS tonight with a game at Coors thrown in for good measure.  That means, the decisions are plentiful are there are many ways the slate could play out.  I, for one, am always too chicken to fade Coors, which probably burns me more than it pays off.  Tonight will be no different though and I’m looking to kick things off with a very affordable David Price ($7,200) facing the Pirates at home.  The Pirates own baseball’s second-worst team OPS (.666) and are generally just a mess.  Price is stretched out and while the strikeouts haven’t been there, that’s baked into his price, which is a full $4,000 less than Corbin Burnes.  That’s a big swing in hitter pricing, which means more Coors bats for us!

Welcome to trade deadline week for the Razzball Commenter Leagues.  Once Saturday at midnight ET rolls around, you’ll be stuck with the team you have.  Well, minus the plethora of free agents out there on the waiver wire of course.  This is the time of year where you can really see some overpaying.  Just remember, if it helps you win, who cares.  Scrutinize those standings and uncover every avenue for gaining points.  This is easily one of my favorite parts of fantasy baseball roto leagues.  I love analyzing where I can gain the most points, or where you can trade a player to ding an opponent.  There’s nothing to be gained by winning HRs by 50, especially not if there are points to be gained in another category.  Be diligent, leave no stone unturned and happy trading!

We have a solid ten games on the main slate this evening which features a Coors game, this should be fun.  For some reason, we have a serious pricing issue on Yu Darvish ($9,000) against the Diamondbacks.  I’m a big fan of McClanahan and all, but why is he $500 more than Darvish?  The Orioles are a tougher match-up in Camden Yards than the D-Backs are on the road in Petco Park.  Maybe it’s just the recent game log talking for FanDuel, but the last time out against the D-Backs Darvish hit 40 points.  Darvish will be the cornerstone of all my lineups tonight.

Hello there, RCLers and welcome to another weekly round-up.  We’re hitting the dog days of the Razzball Commenter Leagues now, this is the time of year where teams in the bottom half of the standings check out and start drafting fantasy football teams.  But not you, good reader, you are sticking around for the long haul and grinding out those roto points.  Just a friendly reminder that our RCL trade deadline is approaching.  August 14th at midnight is your last chance to make any moves via trade.  I expect the next two weeks to be very busy with trades.  Speaking of the next two weeks, Rudy and the RCLBots are going to be out of commission for a bit.  That means today’s update and next weeks will be a bit smaller than normal with no Master Standings and no weekly stats to dig through.  However, the update on August 17th will be jam-packed with info, we’ll have three weeks of stats as well as an updated Master Standings.  A lot can happen in three weeks, so stay tuned.

I’ll admit, I’m not really smitten with Tyler Mahle ($7,900).  He’s a player I didn’t target at all in season-long and I’ve avoided a lot in DFS.  Some of that is my own bias as the one time I used him heavily in DFS is the day he gave up seven earned in two IP vs. SF.  Today though, I’m going back to the Mahle well.  I think some of the problem with Mahle for me is it’s hard to get too excited about a 4 ERA pitcher, which is where his FIP sits and where his ROS projections have him leveling out to.  In DFS, strikeouts play and Mahle has those in bunches, rocking a 10.7 K/9.  The Twins are Josh Donaldson and a bunch of dudes right now.  They have Luis Arraez as their clean-up hitter the past two games,  Yes, that Luis Arraez with one dong on the season.  This is a choice match-up at a cheap price and I really hope Mahle doesn’t burn me again.
