SAGNOF: Pick A Prospect

Another week, another post by me mentioning the Mets. Does it seem like I pick on the Mets too much? I am a Phillies fan, so it’s entirely possible. Maybe the Mets could teach their pitchers how to hold runners and get to home plate faster like the rest of baseball. This is the same organization that lets it’s pitchers decide for themselves whether or not to get an MRI on their sore arms so I’m not expecting much. Sorry, Mets rant over. Here are the week’s speed notes.

• Out of all the call ups, Nicky Lopez may get you the most steals. The Royals slotted him into the two spot off the bat and seem content to give him some leash. Oscar Mercado has better pure speed but Terry Francona will juggle that lineup and bench him in favor of guys like CarGo who have all of 3 XBHs.
• The debate is all but over on Adalberto Mondesi being worth his draft price. He’s flashed his wheels lately swiping four bags last week, upping his steals total to a league-leading 17.
• Nick Senzel chipped in a healthy four steal week for his owners, as well. Steals are part of his profile but four in a week is more than expected. He’s leading off most days and making the most of it. The Reds lineup could be a pretty good one if they continue improving.
• The Nationals get another cake matchup against the Mets poor battery. Keep an eye out for a Michael A. Taylor start. Victor Robles was hit by a pitch on the wrist and Adam Eaton is Adam Eaton.
• Ryan Brasier may have worn out his welcome in the ninth in Boston. Brandon Workman closed the game out for Sunday night for the Sox. He’s had a great year K% wise at 39%. His achilles heal had been walks in April but that’s down to 10% in May. If he keeps the free passes in check he could easily stick.
