If you’re like me most days, you’re sitting in your car beneath an underpass and writing ALF fan fiction, but today we have a different type of fantasy for you to engage in. No, not your fantasy where it’s you and that girl from high school in a tub of Alphabet Soup and you write her a love letter on her back in noodles! This is a fantasy baseball fantasy! Because you know what would be really cool? If you could join a fantasy baseball league that was against, like, 1000 other fantasy baseball teams.  But not a 1000-person league, where people are trying to figure out who the back-up third baseman is on the Single-A Astros affiliate, the Corpus Christi Amscrayers. No, this is a 12-person league designed so you compete against eleven other people in your league, then 75 other leagues of twelve. That would be cool. Oh, wait, we’ve done that. It’s called the Razzball Commenter Leagues, and they’re back, and you don’t even have to be a commenter to join it!  For a limited time only, get your loved one a fantasy baseball league! That’s right, your hearts go pitter-patter or you’re dead on the inside (my condolences). Since back in June when you abandoned your fantasy baseball team because it was totally sucking and you returned to your cubbyhole of leftover Chinese food and Teddy Grahams, you’ve longed for this day. As Bob Marley sang, this is your redemption song, mon. Or womon, for our five girl readers. It’s time again to join some fantasy baseball leagues!

Before you close all of your extraneous porn windows and rush to sign up, let’s explain how these fantasy baseball leagues are going to work. We’re going to have a bunch of leagues and crown a winner from each, then we’re going to crown ONE winner from all of the winners. We will be crowning the winner by taking each team’s points and multiplying it against a ‘league competitiveness factor.’ If you want to see how it worked last year, go here.

So we’re going to fill up as many fantasy leagues as we can for the next seven weeks.  Each fantasy baseball league will be a mixed league, 12 team, snake draft, roto, 5×5, 5 OFs, one Middle Infielder, one Corner Infielder, one Utility, 9 pitchers, 20 game positional eligibility, 1400 innings max, 1000 IP minimum with 3 DL slots with a 500 moves per year cap, which I think maybe two people reached last year. So, that move limit isn’t inhibitive for even those who rosterbate until they are blind.

The leagues will be again at Fantrax.

We’re going to start with 40 leagues and see how we do from there. There are a few pay leagues, neither Razzball or Fantrax keeps any money. If people want more pay leagues, fill these up and we’ll open more. If we need more free leagues, we’ll do the same. To join a league…Sorry, again for the people in the back of the room:

TO JOIN A LEAGUE

Click the LINK in the ‘League Link’ column (see below grid) for the time you want and YOU’RE IN.  Damn, that’s too easy.  Oh, I guess I should also mention make sure you’re joining a league for free or for money, depending on your preference.  If you want a league for money, then 1) Click the link. 2) Pay the money.  That’s it!  No pesky third requirement!  Again, Fantrax and Razzball take no money.  You can join as many free or paid leagues as you like.  To quit a league, go to OTHER –> All Options –> Quit League (located at the bottom).  Now go join some leagues!

THE BIG PRIZE

All leagues (paid and free) will play for the big prize. So, what do you win? You win bragging rights! Not just any bragging rights, but the bragging rights that you beat a thousand or so other people, and you can emphasize the “or so” as emphatically as you’d like. What? Not enough? Okay, for this year’s prize we’re taking the bull out of bulloney. We are upping the ante. “Hey, Olympic high jumper, can you jump over this ante?” No, you can’t, it’s been upped too high. LOOK, it’s a bird…it’s a plane…it’s our ante! “Excuse me, astronomer, is that a satellite orbiting earth?” No, son, it’s Razzball’s ante. They upped it. This year we are giving away a $250 Best Buy Gift card, which can buy just about anything (up to $250). I recently bought a TV that sits underneath my toilet seat so when I whizz I can watch TV. Granted, I bought this in a dream I had and I was married to Sofia Vergara in said dream, but this must exist, right? Also, for s’s and g’s, I’ll throw in a Razzball t-shirt because I have 14,000 of these and I’ve already outfitted all the homeless people in my neighborhood with SAGNOF t-shirts. But, most importantly, you will be crowned the 2020 Razzball Commenter League Champion. Okay, now sign up…

As I’m approaching my 50th birthday, bucket lists and dying wishes are getting more in focus… OK that was too dramatic, but basically: is there room in a good league for DrEasy? I’ve been playing these RCLs since pretty much their inception, but never in the company of Razzball celebrities. I usually place well, even though I’m not a hyperactive rosterbator.

so BOS always could’ve gotten c.wong + j.downs in stead of graterol? why in the hell didn’t they just do this one earlier in the first place?! WAY better for them. verdugo was in both, so nothing changed on that end. this is the kind of deal a small market team should do though, as BOS is like one of only around 5-6 teams that can even afford mookie next year anyway.

Good Evening Grey,

In a 10 team NL 5×5 roto Dynasty league. I won last year and should still compete, but trying to unload bigger contracts for our auction. I have Starling Marter at $3.30 in the last year of his contract. I was offered Isan Diaz 3 years at .50 in a straight-up swap. I like Diaz upside and it would give me some money to go after Story and another big offensive player, but I also have Kolten Wong 2 years .70 and Mauricio Dubon 3 years at .50, so the third-second basemen would eliminate my DH. I figured I’d ask you for your expert opinion for some guidance.

Thanks!

Quick dynasty question – for life – not part of this post but you always know how to save a day Grey! My Robles for Lux? Need 2b now and future. Is this the play? He has Albies too and needs OF. I have OF set w Betts Soto Yordan Eloy Ozuna and Puig ++ for fun. Any of these better for looking at Albies ? Thanks as always! Cheers

Hi Grey. Starting to prepare for next year and looking at keepers. Per league rules can keep up to 5 players at a value equal to most recent draft status. My best options are as follows –

Acuna (8)
Betts (14)
Bellinger (22)
Buehler (24)
E. Suarez (24)
Meadows (25)
Olson (25)
Soler (25)

The first three choices seem obvious and I am leaning toward Buehler as my 4th keeper to balance roster makeup. However, undecided on the 5th option – all present good value and question is who is the best option going forward (we can keep players for 3 year periods, after which one player can be franchised – right now Betts is my franchise player but will have to choose between him and Bellinger next year).

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks.

Fat Fuckin’ Babies here.

There was mild talk of starting an overall top 12 league using last year’s standings after the season ended. Only two other players left their email addresses on the post last year, so I figured it might be worth another try here. Give away your identities for a high LCI! Please!

Sorry Grey.
Let me try this one again….

Looking for a little keeper advice.
10 team Roto, other keeper’s are:
Hitters-Freeman (7th rd), Hiura (17th rd) Eloy (14th rd), Moustakas (11th rd), Bichette (15th rd)
Pitchers – Giolito (16th rd), Fried (13th rd), Gallen (12th rd)

Given Paxton’s injury and the unreliability of Glasnow.
Who would you keep?
I’d have to give up another pitcher and Glasnow (21st rd) to keep Paxton (8th rd).
Feel like there are so many pitching options available trying to make the best choice.

Thanks!

Quick follow on: Given that I keep Giolito (16th rd), Fried (13th rd), Gallen (12th rd) and now Glasnow (21st rd).

With my hitters I am keeping I need to load up on them early rounds.

Who and about what round would you target your next pitcher?

It’s not about what round, which btw is difficult to calculate with so many keepers and not knowing who is being kept by other teams. But you need offense. Use Grey’s pitcher pairings tool to figure out which of those guys you could draft later to round out your staff.

From the non-pro peanut gallery, I’d also easily keep Glasnow.

Glasnow pitched the whole year in 2018. You shouldn’t put the unreliable tag on him just yet. Let’s see how TBay coaching handles him this year.

1) perhaps few hitters that would be ‘under the radar’ and be had say after like picks 120 or so and u seeing having great year and returning amazing value
1) perhaps few starting pitchers that would be ‘under the radar’ and be had say after like picks 120 or so and u seeing having great year and returning amazing value

Yesterday was a rough day… why can’t Moreno just shut up and sign the checks? he’s like baseball’s worse version of Jerry Jones. More sources now saying he was “impatient” and he definitely pulled deal. Meanwhile, Dodgers still need to drop 2 from the 40-man roster to finalize the trade. *thinking emoji* sigh.

in other news… yay commenter leagues.

Coolwhip
Reply to  Grey

Yeah Dodgers were doing it for 2 reasons, 1) shed salary to reduce luxtax (hi price) and 2) the moves threw off the roster balance, main thing being Joc represents excess and a bad cost-to-WAR ratio, getting Betts basically made Joc an $8M pinch-hitter vs RHP, as Dodgers have 4th OFers for days (Kike, Beaty, Taylor-who got extension, etc), and Betts/Bellinger won’t take many days off. Joc also being in final year of Arb, meaning he is essentially on the way out anyway.

Yes a huge no-brainer as they were basically giving Joc for free with Stripling being the real prize. plus i like the upside for Andy Pages, potential to develop into big power bat.

Coolwhip

For sure, I think if Adell hits the ground running in AAA like Hiura last year (now that he’s not Joc jammed), we could see him early May especially if Goodwin reverts back to a pumpkin.

Drafted out of the 5 slot yesterday in an NFBC 12 teamer. To be honest, was excited to finally draft Cole. Nope, dude with 2nd pick takes him.
(5) Bellinger
(20) Flaherty
(29) Mondesi
(44) Giolito
(53) Springer (1st draft with no Olson- went @37)
(68) Machado
(77) Rizzo
(92) Woodruff
(101) Soler
(116) Nick Anderson- all I need was a push and saw you ranked him 126 after trading Pagan. I assumed he’d be the essential closer and liked him more than a few r.p.’s you listed ahead of him.
(125) Cruz- Never owned him before anywhere. Never owned a 39-40 yr. old. Hope I don’t break him.
(140) Contreras
(149) Robles- r.p.
(164) A. Rosario
(173) Kennedy
(188) Newman
(197) Odorizzi
(212) Verdugo
(221) Alfaro
(236) B.Anderson
(245) Heaney
(260) Lucchesi
(269) Akiyama
(284) DeSclafani
(293) Swanson
(308) Chirinos
(317) Kiermaier
(332) Happ
(341) Dubon
(352) P. Lopez

Hoping Anderson can get me 30 saves with triple digit k’s and stellar ratios. Hope Cruz doesn’t fall off too much, but couldn’t pass @125.

Very happy with my pitching. What do you now expect from Nick Anderson. Wanted Madrigal at 260, but someone took him @218. Thus, Dubon @ 341.
Pleased with Odorizzi/Heaney/Lucchesi/DeSclafani/Chirinos/P.Lopez on top of Flaherty/Giolito/Woodruff.
Know you’re not a fan of Amed, but he fell to 164….Mondesi/Rosario/Newman should give me sufficient s.b.’s from my m.i.
Don’t understand why Swanson is so undervalued, but @293, he’s a no brainer.
Depending on Anderson and Cruz, this could be my favorite draft of the 6 that I’ve done.

Hey Grey!

Weekend update on the squad. Would say things have been going as good or better than expected thus far. Got a bunch of your sleepers!

But I’m starting to reach the part of the draft where this is unchartered territory for me — have never gone anywhere near this deep. That’s what she said!

Think I’ll still be OK for a few more rounds though. Plan is to keep loading up on useful bench bats and arms, before speculating too much.

Ran the numbers, and my clear weakness right now is saves. Looking pretty solid otherwise. Let me know if you disagree! i.e. need to beef up somewhere.

Corner is obviously my weakest spot, hence why I took La Stella with my recent pick, but think I’m actually fine there overall. Then maybe get another OF or two, still need catchers… lol

I got pick 294 coming up. To be clear, these are targets over the next few rounds… Looking at:
Lugo
Chirinos
Andujar (might be best value, but UT only and playing time issues, eh)
Hudson
Bassitt
Urias
Tsutsugo
Akiyama
Calhoun

Squad:
C:
C:
1B: Cron
2B: Ketel
3B: Dozier
SS: Story
MI: Xander
CI: Nunez
OF: Eloy
OF: Mercado
OF: Kepler
OF: Lourdes
OF:
U: Swanson (couldn’t pass that value up, speed, even though a third starting SS is a bit much)
Bench / can move Ketel or Dozier to OF and start: La Stella
P: Darvish
P: Sonny
P Hand
P: Lynn
P: Maeda
P: Stroman
P: Yarbrough

I’ll likely pick before you respond, but that’s fine. Just looking for general comments.

If I am understanding this correct. This guy is offering me Liam Hendricks (RP/OAK/$50, he eats the entire salary), and Nate Anderson ($6), and in return he wants one of these prospects from me(Austin Vaughan, Jo Adell, Nick Madrigal, Alec Bohm, Luis Robert, or Royce Lewis). Would you make that deal and which prospect would you give up?

would you trade Royce Lewis for those two, or hold out and try to get Workman in the auction?

10-team H2H keeper league. My current keepers on offense are:

Rizzo, Olson, Tatis, Semien, Betts, and Meadows.

I’ve been offered Eloy Jimenez and Keston Hiura for Betts. Am I better off keeping Betts or acquiring the depth in the form of two young keepers? Is the offer at least close? Thanks!

I’d want Betts. Depth isn’t that much of a factor in 10-teams.

Awesome. Last year was my first foray into an RCL after many years lurking here, [also my first foray into Roto- all my long running leagues are H2H for better or worse]. Roto was cool, though strategically I haven’t quite wrapped my head around it, and the RCL was awesome. Particularly the weekly RCL write-up where I got to hope each week that I’d done well enough to warrant mention.
Only complaint was that my league had a sluggish trade market, so hopefully RCL #3 is more active this year.
So for any Razzball lurkers, definitely jump in. It was a lot of fun.

Glad you’re back for more fun and thanks for the kind words about the write-ups! That’s what I’m hoping for when I write them every week.

I guess the only downside is everyone is looking for the same players.
Maybe this year I’ll zag- all early round starters, catchers, and slow throwing relievers.

Zag right into the warm embrace of Cole, Scherzer, Kershaw, Gary Sanchez, and JT Realmuto. And Miguel Sano for speed.

Yo Grey & DT

I’m having a tough time deciding to who keep. 12 team, 6×6 (QS & OBP), H2H league. I can keep 5 from this group for as long as I want, no restrictions:

Acuña
Bellinger
Betts
Lindor
Trea
Yordan
Alonso

The first 3, maybe 4 are obvious, I’m struggling with Trea or Yordan given that I have speed. What do you all think? I could always try to package Trea and the bottom 2 to get a Yelich or Trout, though.

Thank, Homies!

I’d probably cut Trea and Alonso. You don’t need that much speed in H2H.

yeah in NL only freeman was for sure, then i’d think some mix of the castillo/stressbird/lux/edman/mcneil guys for the other 2. such savings on mcneil/lux/edman (plus in general i don’t keep more than 1 pitcher if even one pitcher in a shortish keepers). harper at best is a break even on the pick i’d use anyway, similar for hoskins. the 16 teamer was easier for sure with decisions. my pick in the 1st round of the NL only will almost certainly be right in the middle (we pick our draft slots after keepers, so if you keep a 1st rounder you nearly always would want the latest pick in odd rounds). and since i got 1st i don’t actually pick a draft slot, i get what’s left. those with no 1st round keeper want best odd round pick, those with 1st round keeper want latest odd round pick, those of us that got 1st/2nd get what’s left, so 5th or 6th likely. mookie might determine who the worst team even keeps, as that owner is guaranteed mookie if he wants the 1.1)

even with the double pitcher keepers in NL only? interestingly rare for you. clearly stressbird ace in the 4th is good value. l.castillo’s value is also good of course (and these 2 are trustworthy, whereas i’m guessing the expectation with mcneil is regression back, and lux/edman might have playing time concerns (probably not edman though. didn’t mention but there is 1 NA slot (in case lux is sent down for a bit))

yeah one of edman, lux, mcneil at least over l.castillo. but of course all of them have more risk. it’s just so rare that in keepers less than say 7 or maybe 6 i’m keeping 2 pitchers. here though the value might be right for exactly that.

3. same exact settings as NL only, but AL only.
options:
antana (tons of positions, 25)
gallo (5)
vlad (3)
k.davis (2, nope)
mercado (25)
altuve (1, last year i had the 1.2 and wanted judge, but went altuve when judge was gone)
odor (6, probably nope)
s.murphy (25)
ed rod (7)
yarbrough (15)
minor (14)
paxton (3, nope)
pressly (14)

thinking vlad, gallo, antana here.

yeah truthfully even if i spend more than a 5th on gallo in the draft the mercado value bump is probably worth it.

All is right with the world again! I’ll be in the way too early March 1st draft again. I just gotta get my draft fix. ~*Y’all got any more of them RCL drafts*~ I would love to get an invite to a more competitive league. Any takers?

D Fresh – I’ve played with you the past couple seasons in the money RCLs I believe, if there’s a spot open in any of the legacy leagues I can shoot you an invite. Some of them are money leagues, some are just very competitive free leagues, but I’ll keep you in the loop. E-mail me: truss at razzball dot com so I have your info.

Thank you Perts! You are correct Truss. We’ve played in some money leagues in years past. I was locked out from money leagues last year because, well, Iowa. Looks like it will have to be a free legacy league for me. I need that high league index! I’ll shoot you an email. Razz on

It’s one of our legacy leagues, a bunch of managers from the old Razz30 league way back in the day. Those ones at the bottom are legacy leagues and commisioners will post if there are openings there.
