Fantasy Baseball Team Updates, July
It’s been about a month or so since our last update on where we is/are. We’ve been sitting in first in a few leagues and have gone from the top to the middle to the bottom of the pack of one league then back to 2nd. Okay, updates done. So what about your teams? I keed. I’ll go over some outstanding moves (there’s been a few) and some clunkers (none as bad as Hochevar). Anyway, here’s our fantasy baseball team updates:
15 Team, mixed league, 5×5; host: Tim of RotoRob, Currently in 1st place, 1 point in front.
Key Pickup – The Big FraGu has a line of 8/4/13/.341/2 so far on our team. Get well soon! I fully expect him to be dropped from this team by the next time we do an update, but so far so genius. Also, two days before Ramon Hernandez went to the DL — but about two months after he was viable — we used our waiver claim and grabbed Napoli. He’s hit two homers so far for us. Not really sure why he was dropped in this deep of a league, let alone why he fell to us at 14 out of fifteen teams in the waiver process. But we’ll take it.
Debilitating Loss – Carlos Beltran will be a recurring theme in our debilitating loss slot for all of our teams. So far in this league FraGu’s held up his end of the bargain.
16 Team, mixed league, 5×5; host: Andy Behrens of Yahoo! Roto Arcade, Currently in 1st place, 14.5 points in front.
Key Pickup – Garrett Jones. Need I say more. Okay, I will. I wish I grabbed Jones in every league I was in. Even in my league that only use players with the last name Rzepczynski. BTW, Garrett Jones was dropped and we needed to use our waiver claim for him, so if you wanna Razz my leaguemates in the comments, go for it.
Debilitating Loss – Jones filled in for Beltran here. Also, we lost Kelly Johnson, but that probably helped us, even if EverCab and Lowrie have been less than ideal.
12 Team, mixed league, 5×5 (with OBP/SLG instead of AVG/HR) ; host: FSWA, Currently in 2nd place, 3.5 points out of first.
Key Pickup – On this team, we lost Jose Reyes (actually we never had him because I made the boneheaded trade of Adam Dunn for him around the time of the Mets first lie saying he’d be back tomorrow – which was almost two months ago), then we lost Carlos Beltran/Quentin, then lost Bedard (have since traded him), then had to deal with owning Gerardo Parra for three weeks. This team was in shizzambles for about a month. (At the last update we were down to 4th. We fell to 8th at one point.) But we scrambled and made some trades. I sent Broxton and Bedard away for Carlos Lee and sent Scherzer away for Bourn. Luckily, we had a 20+ save lead on the pack and were able to do the Broxton trade, while hurting in steals and Scherzer can’t get passed the fifth inning so the 2nd one seemed like a no-brainer. (The Reyes trade was supposed to help with steals, obviously it did not.) Right now, I’m proudest of this team because of how hard of a struggle it’s been. When this team tanks again, it will again be the redheaded stepchild.
Debilitating Loss – Did you miss the Key Pickup section where I went over how many guys we lost?
12 Team, NL, 5×5; host: FantasyPros911, Currently in 1st place, 9 points in front.
Key Pickup – This is Rudy’s team. (I’m merely a consultant.) I can’t speak for Rudy, and he’s off in some far away world doing spy stuff, but I will wonder aloud on this. Fantasy Pros 911 did about 16 updates of this league on their site when they were in first. I don’t think there’s been one since they dropped to 8th. Cust kayin’.
Key Trade – Rudy just sent Huston Street packing for Stephen Drew. When trading any closer for a top SS in an NL-Only league, you gotta love that. Especially when you’ve got about two times the saves as 10 of the other 11 teams.
Debilitating Loss – Rudy’s in first, and that’s with Conor Jackson, Volquez, Maine, and Soto being hurt. Oh, and Rudy dropped J.A. Happ for Eric Stultz. But Rudy’s a huge fan of the movie Mask.

Repeating from the end of the last post —
If I’ve got too many MI (B Roberts, Cano, Asdrubel, Furcal, and Reyes on the DL), and could use a pitcher, who should I try to move, and what level pitcher should I target?
Another owner with a bad MI situation has been shopping Carpenter….would Roberts for Carpenter be a good offer?
@mgeoffriau: Wow, I was about to say Roberts for a 2nd tier starter then I read your next paragraph. That was weird. Yeah, go for it.
July 23rd, 2009 at 11:41 am
Mindmeld.
@mgeoffriau: Lambda.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:01 pm
Word limit reached before the pts league update could be spewed?
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Do you think Joel Piniero can maintain this type of success? His BABIP is a little lower than his career norm, but his FIP stands at 2.92. Should I be looking to sell high, or be looking to hold onto him and keep him for next year? If I’m selling, what type of 1B,2B should I go after?
@cws05nuts: Huh?
@Corey: He’s not really doing that much that he can’t keep up other than maybe a small correction on his ERA.
@Corey: Sorry, phone call so I submitted before I was done. Stupid telemarketers. I wouldn’t be looking to keep him for next year. I doubt you can get much in a trade though. Maybe Derrek Lee?
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:12 pm
@Corey: His lowest ERA/WHIP since ‘03 was 4.35/1.33 in two separate years. He hasn’t struck out 7 per 9 IP since middle school. I’d try for Huff, Casey Blake, Cantu, Barmes, or see if you can squeeze A Rod out of AJ Mass.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:19 pm
@Grey: You used a word limit line on a round up recently. I thought you and Rudy were in a pts league that was pitching heavy? I retain too much about your teams… Must get a life back!
@cws05nuts: That’s Rudy’s (personal) office league, I don’t have access to that team.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:24 pm
@Scott: I already have Aubrey Huff. I’m hoping someone pisses in his cornflakes and he starts hitting. I’m thinking about offering Huff/Piniero when and if huff gets hot or maybe a Uggla/Piniero deal to someone.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:25 pm
@Grey: Ahhhhhh… I see. That’s the format I play (unfortunately) not big on it because the playoffs are such a crap shoot! But was interested to hear what moves worked out in that particular format. I’m sure the roster moves mentioned above translated into points pretty well too. Except maybe the FSWA league.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:28 pm
Buehrle perfect through 6
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:28 pm
And I’m going to try the inverse on a jinx because my luck is running poor of late. Buehrle perfect game through 6! And Fields hit a homer. Is this 2007?
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:29 pm
What should I make of Jason Bay’s last month? Numbers have been way down.
Got offered Bay and Billingsley for my Ryan Braun.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:29 pm
@Corey: Ah. I would try to move Uggla. I’m from the mindset that if you have held on to Huff for 3 months already, if that is the case, might as well keep him for his (hopefully) strong second half.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:30 pm
@Maitland: Keepers?
@cws05nuts: Gotcha
@Maitland: That seems fair for Braun if you need a starter.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:32 pm
@Scott: I’ve been trying, just everyone hates his Ks and average. I’m trying to tell people it will come up, but i’m the only stat nerd of the group. His power is still there.
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:40 pm
My team is loaded at OF and I have one too many. I can’t start Hunter Pence anymore because he’s my #6 OF and have nowhere to put him except the bench. I’m cruising in hitting but hurting in pitching. WHIP 8th place of 10 and ERA 9th place of 10 teams. I need another starter badly.
Who is a fair value to trade straight-up for Pence? Who should I target?
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:43 pm
@EricB: Nolasco?
July 23rd, 2009 at 12:54 pm
@RIP Harry: Good to see you’re not intimidated by baseball superstition. Now it’s up to 7.
@EricB: Yeah, go for Nolasco.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:00 pm
Would Uggla/Piniero for Pedroia be fair considering I have Dunn already on my team. Would it get accepted?
@Corey: Sure, but I don’t think it would get accepted.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:03 pm
@Corey: F Pedroia and his no power. I would rather have Barmes. Maybe not, but I don’t like Pedroia.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:04 pm
@Dingo: Haha well not a ChiSox fan and dont own him so I dont care if he gets it. Although they’re rare so it would be kinda cool to see. Up to 8 now.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:08 pm
@All: Flippin Berkman to DL.
@Grey: I’m rocking Hudson and Marcum on my DL. Who should I drop to stash Berk? I could let Berkman sit on my bench, but those to on my DL aren’t exactly must-haves.
Wow
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:11 pm
It’s history
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:13 pm
Holy cow, Buehrle? Seriously?
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Dewayne Wise’s catch to save that was incredible
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:15 pm
If you missed the DeWayne Wise catch, then be sure to watch Baseball Tonight (tonight). Possibly the greatest single defensive play under pressure I’ve ever witnessed.
@Dad: Lose Hudson for Berkman.
@Adam: @mgeoffriau: Absolutely incredible.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Obama karma! Since Buehrle met the President, he has thrown 10 perfect innings, including his 9-pitch inning in the AS game where he got Utley, Pujols, and Braun.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Of all the pitchers in the world, Buehrle ?
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:20 pm
@Scott: G. Jones has more homers than Pedroia.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:22 pm
What about Gallardo for Pence? Who wins that deal?
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Which closer for the rest of this year? Points league so IP (with low WHIP) matters as much as saves: Qualls, Hoffman, or Sherrill?
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:26 pm
@SamYo: Or even better, Pedroia has 1 more than Zambrano on the season.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:27 pm
@wubbawubba: If all assured of going nowhere, Qualls, but Hoffman has the best security.
@EricB: It’s fair, about needs. If you need a pitcher, then Yovani.
July 23rd, 2009 at 1:32 pm
Did you guys hear the White Sox news?
Yeah, that’s right, Jim Parque admits to using HGH.
Unreal! There goes the value of my Jim Parque autographed baseball obtained at a charity comedy night in south suburban Chicago nearly a decade ago. So much for early retirement.

DeWayne Wise catch video
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:01 pm
@Scotty: Wow. That is amazing. Imagine if he hadn’t caught it in his bare hand after he bobbled it? He would have felt bad.
Buehrle owes Wise about eight steak dinners, and a foot rub.
In a related story, Buehrle didn’t exactly look dominant there. Still. Two no-nos!
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:06 pm
In the spirit of great catches, different sport, but still a great watch. When you see the first one, bear in mind that it’s the equivalent of a pitcher making a diving catch in the outfield…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D83i6NPcvVU
@Jif & the Choosy Mothers: Ha!
@Steve: Why don’t those guys have gloves?
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:07 pm
need a berkman replacement:
morales or this garrett jones fella?
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:10 pm
@Grey: Because cricketers don’t need them
@paulzone: Jones
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:14 pm
I just read in an ESPN article (I know, I know) that the Orioles have only used Baez on back to back days once all season. I was already of the belief that Jim Johnson would close if/when Sherrill is traded, and this only cements that though for me. One would think the O’s would like some kind of stability in the role, and having a closer unable to go two days in a row would be a pain in the ass. Of course, assuming they could win two games in a row might be a little generous, but still…just something to think about
@Adam: That’s good info, thanks!
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:18 pm
@Adam: And that second of the back to back games was on 7/12 and he just came in for one out.
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:27 pm
@Adam: HOWEVER, Johnson has given up runs in 4 of the 8 times in the second game of the back to backs that he has pitched this year and has a 8.31 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in those games.
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:29 pm
@Scotty: un frikin believable.thanks
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:32 pm
@Scott: I don’t think the Orioles have to be too worried about too many leads to protect in back-to-back games. That’s a problem they wish they had.
@Grey: What’s your ETA on Jones’s return to Planet Earth? Right now I’m talking myself out of pursuing another OF b/c Jones is hitting and Holliday is showing signs of life. I got so excited at a Holliday-to-the-Cards rumor today I had to take a cold shower.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Probably before the end of July.
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:34 pm
@Grey: Killjoy.
Maybe this was mentioned elsewhere, but the Tribe shipped Betancourt to the Rox today.
Do you think Woods gets dealt too? And who’s the replacement? Chris Perez? I guess the Wahoos might want to see what they have in him, but I also heard he needs off-season surgery of some sort.
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:34 pm
@Steve: @Grey: maybe the glove didnt fit??
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:35 pm
@Scott: Damn, where’s Jorge Julio when you need him?
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Yeah, I think Perez is a good guess.
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
@AL KOHOLIC: Nah – we just don’t need washing baskets on our hands to make the big plays.
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Pujols not in the Cards lineup, I’m assuming just a day off but the Cubs fan in me is hoping for more
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:48 pm
@EricB: i’d say yovani is a more valuable pitcher than pence is OF.
your best bet might be to offer one of your more well-regarded OFs and then plug pence into the lineup, cause when the opponent looks at your team and sees pence on your bench he’s gonna wanna low ball it.
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:55 pm
Everybody deal Garret Jones for Buehrle. It can be a sell high farmer’s market.
July 23rd, 2009 at 3:09 pm
Grandy’s catch earlier this year to take away the ninth-inning walk-off homer was pretty badass too:
http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090508&content_id=4635196&vkey=news_det&fext=.jsp&c_id=det
@Adam: It’s just a day off.
@JR: I like how the caster screams gone. Makes it much better. Matthews homer grab from a few years is still my favorite.
July 23rd, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Top 80 Starters, 2009 Fantasy Baseball
Mark Buehrle – He’s not flashy with those Big City Ks. You probably won’t want to own him. But for the better part of two years, I’ve owned him off and on. He’s usually good for a few ‘worth-owning’ streaks a year. I can see a perfect game in Burhrle sometime this year -proberly against the Tampa Bay Rays. 2009 Projections: 13-10/4.00/1.35/120
wow Grey you called the perfect game
matthews berry is also claiming he predicted the perfect game
@Mr Baseball: Of course I did.
July 23rd, 2009 at 3:26 pm
@Grey: Agreed. That’s the $50 million catch!
July 23rd, 2009 at 3:28 pm
Which of these pitchers has the least value (I have to cut one of them)?
(10 team mixed roto league)
John Smoltz
Hiroki Kuroda
Jeff Niemann
Kevin Slowey
Brett Anderson
Joel Pineiro
Rich Harden
I also have Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley, Max Scherzer, and James Sheilds, but I wouldn’t ever cut them.
July 23rd, 2009 at 3:36 pm
@EricB: dude,thats 11 starters,do you have an inning limit?toss up with smoltz,kuroda(no k`s),nieman and anderson all seem to be spot starters
July 23rd, 2009 at 3:36 pm
Beltran Bruce and Berkman. Killer B’s of the Bench. My DL is full, so that’s where they’ll go. I hate them all.
Also, Seth Smith has been starting? Totally didn’t know it. I think Rob Neyer said he was actually good (I don’t think Neyer said he was all that good, but I was surprised by the comment). He does seem like he can not-suck for a week or so until Berkman decides not to be a lame ass, so I picked him up.
I hate it when my OF starts the season as Bay Beltran Cruz Bruce and Kubel and ends up being Bay Cruz Garret Jones Seth Smith and my neighbor’s mom.
July 23rd, 2009 at 3:37 pm
@Al Koholic: Some of them are bench players. I have 3 closers too.
@JR: Yup
@Tom: Don’t discount your neighbor’s mom.
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:07 pm
@EricB: just my thoughts but i would rather take a chance on a young guy like tillman or latos,hope for a good start or 2 and try to trade them,but then again,my pitching is killing me
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:09 pm
Grey, is Bay and Shields a decent offer for Pujols? I have spare pitching and wouldn’t mind an upgrade on Bay.
What about for Hanley?
I can spare the pitching, but I might have waited way too long on Bay though.
@Tom: I don’t think you’ll get Pujols there, but you can try. I doubt it gets you Hanley either.
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:13 pm
I know that’s probably not enough for the pujols, but I would like to get one great player or two really good OF for Bay/Shields.
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Jason Bay should rebound, right. Another player on the last place team I could target in return for pitching. Thanks.
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:27 pm
Would you start Harang against the Cubbies at Wrigley tomorrow afternoon?
I feel a 3.2 IP, 7 ER line in the making.
Then again, if I sit him he’ll pitch golden and get him first win in three years.
@Robert: Sorry, if that’s a question, I don’t follow.
@david: It’s a risky start, but I think you gotta throw him.
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Eddie Bonine starts tommorrow for the Tigers – picked him up in my Bum League – the only question left unanswered is – will he pitch 1 or 2 innings tommorrow
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:41 pm
Kenshin Kawakami
John Smoltz
Mat Latos
what order would you put these three pitchers grey?
@Mr Baseball: Punt? Smoltz, Kawakami, Latos…
July 23rd, 2009 at 4:49 pm
@Grey: Good call on Correia.
Wainwright sure do tie a man to the WHIP-ping post sometimes, don’t he?
@Steve: Yeah, vs. the Nats no less. Really annoying.
@Steve: We’re in trouble. Wainwright may not come back after the rain delay, it’s coming down pretty hard.
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:03 pm
@Grey: Nothing that happens to me with my pitchers this year surprises me anymore.
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:06 pm
Aramis and J-Up for Wright and Ludwick?
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Or Wright and Cruz maybe?
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:08 pm
@Grey: @Steve: Frickin rain delay.
I could have actually stayed up to watch the end of this one, what with the early starting time and all. Already had the early bird special at Denny’s.
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:09 pm
@BigFatHippo: Sounds like fun, old-timer.
Hope you didn’t leave your ear trumpet behind.
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:10 pm
Hey Grey, Votto/Helton/Burrell for Bay/Shields/Stewart?
@Steve: I’d take Wright and either. Ludwick first.
@BigFatHippo: Hey, stranger!
@Tom: It’s fair. I’d take the Bay side.
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:20 pm
@Steve: Eh?
@Grey: Time to drink some strange brew.
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:46 pm
@Grey: On April 8 this question was posed to you: “1.Hey Grey, Would you drop one of Beauhrle,J.Sanchez,Kawakami for E.Jackson?”
You answered:
“1.@JavaBeanHead: Drop Buerhle for him.”
You couldn’t see the no-no coming?
@Simply Fred: I don’t think anyone would be bothered by what Edwin’s done this year. Oh, and I knew Sanchez’s no-no was coming.
EDIT: Word.
July 23rd, 2009 at 5:57 pm
Nyjer Morgan or Denard Span?
@Bob: Morgan
July 23rd, 2009 at 6:05 pm
in a 15 team league that counts holds (sucks I know) is Adrian Gonz and Broxton too much to give for Ryan Howard and Troncoso?
@Schlitzy: Yeah, too much.
July 23rd, 2009 at 6:11 pm
I just traded Scherzer for Garret Jones in a Roto league where I needed extreme power help and any OF power. How’d I fare?
July 23rd, 2009 at 6:15 pm
who is better in my DH slot the rest of the way – Cust or Burrell?
@Corey: I think you could’ve done better.
@Mr. Rickey: Burrell
July 23rd, 2009 at 6:20 pm
@Grey: Wainwright still in the game!
@Steve: Yup. I’m hoping for one inning and then they pull him, but I don’t think that’s what we’re going to get.
July 23rd, 2009 at 6:27 pm
@Grey: Would be good if he could get through 5.
@Steve: Yeah, one more.
July 23rd, 2009 at 6:47 pm
@Grey: Thanks, big guy. You can go sit on the bench and spit seeds now.
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:16 pm
Aubrey Huff or Casey Blake?
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Let it rain!
July 23rd, 2009 at 7:50 pm
@Grey:
that was funny …. doumit’s passed ball
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:12 pm
Maybe Jones can keep it going. Haren isn’t stopping him.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:14 pm
Who gave Pujols the Pirates jersey with “Jones” on the back?
@Tom: Ha!
@Bob: Huff, but they’re looking pretty much like a coin flip.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:23 pm
@Steve: i thought i saw a hippo,
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:25 pm
As a Berkman replacement — Cantu, N. Johnson, or Prado? I most need R,RBI,AVG (I’m near the top of the league in HR/SB), so Prado’s numbers look good, but there may be something I’m missing. Thanks!
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:31 pm
Jones needs a nickname. Maybe the Pirate nickname was given to McCutchen too early. Just wait until McCutchen gets injured and we can call him Mc-Crutchin’. Actually, MC Crutchin’ sounds like a gimpy rapper.
Anyway, we should work on a Jones nickname.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:31 pm
@AL KOHOLIC: Too many cigars on an empty stomach?
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:39 pm
I am neck and neck for innings, era, and whip. Other team has Verlander vs CWS, Happ vs STL, Anderson @NYY, and Jackson vs CWS going. Please help me choose who I can count on this weekend out of: Lackey vs MIN, Liriano@LAA, Vazquez@MIL, Hanson@MIL, Price@TOR ? Thinking about picking up Stauffer@NATS. Suggestions, please.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:41 pm
HOW DEEPS A GAME HAVE TO GO TO BE CALLED B/C OF RAIN?
ST LOUIS GAME…. ANYONE HAVE ANY WEATHER NEWS THERE, ARE THEY GONNA GET BACK ON THE FIELD?
I NEED THAT WIN FROM WAINY!
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:42 pm
@Steve: blunts?ha,i did have a fine cigar today,going home this weekend for my 45th,and hippo cant get off,well i dont mean getoff ,you no what i mean,dirty minds
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:42 pm
So if you google “nicknames for Garrett,” you get
“Gar, Gary, Garry, Gare-Bear, Retty, Getty, Gare-o”
Gare Bear. Ha.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:43 pm
@Tony Y: I agree, time they called it. That said, we got lucky he came back after the first rain delay.
Maybe Tony had a couple during the break and thought the score got reset to 0-0.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:43 pm
4 and haft innings as long as the home team is winning or 5 full innings if the home team is losing
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:43 pm
@Grey: Thanks for the help on these yawnstipating decisions.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:47 pm
@AL KOHOLIC: Many happy returns and have a great weekend! Is that back to Salem?
If so, have one in the Red Dog for me.
A beer that is, not a fight
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:49 pm
@Tony Y: See what happens when you ask nicely?
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:53 pm
@Steve: yes,my brother just sent me a new red dog saloon shirt too,so i will,coldest beer anywhere and mixed drinks so strong youll ask for another spash of soda.,,we`ll have to see about getting you one of those shirts
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:55 pm
@AL KOHOLIC: Ha! That would be awesome.
July 23rd, 2009 at 8:59 pm
Yunel Escobar and Alex Rios for Fransico Rodriguez and John Lackey. Which side wins in a keeper league?
July 23rd, 2009 at 9:22 pm
@Grey: Safe to let Joba loose against the As tomorrow?
July 23rd, 2009 at 10:04 pm
@Grey: Thoughts on the new Wilco album? Please rank:
Deeper Down, You and I, One Wing, I’ll Fight, You Never Know
July 23rd, 2009 at 10:05 pm
Grey, I hope you are still available. A trade was proposed to me. I get Bay & Capps for my Nolasco & Hanson. I don’t need a closer, but I do think I could use more power if Bay is going to turn it around. Your advice has been amazing since I started reading here 2 months ago, so I will go with what you think. H2H 10 team mixed. My team: Napoli(till Wieters heats up), Morneau, J. Lopez, Drew, Wright, Votto, Jones!, Rios, Cruz, Choo, Bourn, Aram, Beckham, Beltran.
Nolasco, Wainwright, Vazquez, Lackey, Hanson, Liriano, Price, Kaz(hoping for better), Hoffman, Hughes=holds, and floater for holds.
Would I be better off just trying a straight Nolasco for Bay? Does my staff take a big hit without Nolasco? In 9th place with five weeks to move into 6th. Sorry this was so wordy. Thanks in advance.
@Prince: I’d go with Cantu.
@Tom: McCrutchin — Ha! Gare Bear – Eh.
@Robert: I’d start them all and Stauffer.
@Corey: Rios side.
@Steve: I would. Not really safe though.
@JR: Rudy’s liking it, I haven’t even had a chance to get it yet.
@Robert: I don’t like it for you.

@Grey: Skeptic that you are (at least regarding Wilco), I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

@Grey: Thanks. Nice to see J-Up enhance his tradeability tonight.
He could still be huge but the risk factor nags…

@Grey:
re : 911 ….. cust hearin’
re : j.a. happ
read an article advising me to sell happ , cuz of some numbers like :
babip .242 , strand rate 87 % , era/f.i.p 2.68/4.36 & k/bb .
for a 1-year league , i might follow this advice .
but i have this kid signed for 3 more years .
i’m cutting him some slack on his current # of walks ,
but am wondering about his future strike-out rate .
he only has 65 k ’s in 92 innings this year , but at every level of his minor league career he has shown one k/inn .
please look into your crystal ball and tell me what his k-rate will be next year and the year after .
no pressure ….. i won’t come looking to kick your azz , 3 years from now .
thanking you , in advance .

Would you trade Lackey for Bay or don’t need Bay and stay with what I’ve got? The guy who has Bay also has Braun. Would you give up Nolasco for Braun? Or, again, should just hold with what I’ve got? Thanks.
@big o: I was saying to sell him two months ago too. I think Rudy might’ve listened to me. Oopsie. I don’t think his K rate jumps next year.
@Robert: I’d give up Nolasco for Braun, it’s not going to happen though.

Yahoo! StatTracker has lost its shizz. Morales is apparently 0-5.

Yahoo! StatTracker has lost its shizz.
Napoli is apparantly 1-4 with 1 single, Morales is apparently 0-5 with -1 single, 1 double, when in fact Napoli is 1-4 with a double and Morales is 0-5 (with donuts, obviously)
Get it together, Yahoo!

Who do you like for the rest of the season?…Maholm, Stauffer, Latos, Galaragga, Niemann?
@Gareth: StatTracker sucks.
@G: Stauffer, but not the rest of the season.
