I think I made up the word excellers, but it should be a word, so add it into your Merriam-Webster, who was not a spinoff character from that Emmanuel Lewis show. Never the hoo! Here’s some 2nd half hitters for fantasy baseball who should be better than they were in the first half. To come up with this list, I scoured the last three years of post-All-Star Break numbers, ran it through a supercomputer that’s bigger than your Peugeot, pasted the supercomputer-generated names to my shirt like dollar bills on a wedding dress then went to a palm reader to help me pick ten names out of the thousands. The palm reader’s name was Erica Karabell; she said there was no relation. Anyway, here’s the best 2nd half fantasy baseball hitters for 2011:
Derrek Lee – Last year, he played the 2nd half like he was walking onto a yacht with an apricot scarf. In 2009, .336 with 18 homers. Last year, .298 with 9 homers compared to a .233 average in the 1st half. I still don’t really like Derrek Lee compared to a lot of names, but he’ll come a lot cheaper than most.
Matt Holliday – Hit 24 homers in 263 ABs in the 2007 2nd half, 16 homers in 2008 and 16 in 2009, while also having the 6th best average in the majors. Last year, he hit .327 in the 2nd half compared to .300, though his homers went down by 4 (16 to 12). Holliday’s on holiday in the 1st half and Holliday’s Holliday in the 2nd half. Any questions? Yeah, what are you talking about? Not now, random italicized voice.
Joe Mauer – Not completely contingent on the fact that he can’t be worse. Partly? Sure. But not completely.
Ryan Raburn – Mr. Al Caps, “NOOOOOOO! PLEASE DON’T GET ME EXCITED ABOUT THIS GUY AGAIN! I ALREADY HAVE A BAD TICKER!” I know, friend. “DO YOU?!” Yes. “OKAY.” In 2009, Raburn hit 10 homers and .310 in the 2nd half. In 2010, he hit 13 homers and .315 compared to 2 homers and .208 in the 1st half. If he hits well this 2nd half, at least we’ll know not to pay attention to it in March of 2012.
Raul Ibanez – Well, there’s an exciting name. Maybe I can point out Omar Infante next. Ibanez has already started to get hot moving into the 2nd half…Yeah, I’m still not excited.
Jay Bruce – Was better in average and homers in the 2nd half of 2010, better in average in 2009 but an injury cut it short and he was better in homers in 2008 but that could’ve been him just finding his footing. So, in other words, he’s not definitely better in the 2nd half, but if he does it this year, he’ll have a huge year and be a 2nd round draft pick next year.
Drew Stubbs – Solid in the 2nd half of 2010. With only last year to look at, Stubbs doesn’t have a huge sample size to go on, but that never stopped my ex-girlfriends either.
Alexei Ramirez – Was much better in 2008, not better in 2009 and slightly better in 2010, so that leads us to maybe he’ll be better in 2011. How’s that for clearing everything up?
Billy Butler – From 2008 to 2010, he has 883 1st half ABs and 19 homers. In 763 2nd half ABs, he has 28 homers. So he goes from a homer every 47th at-bat to every 27th at-bat. Or from a light-hitting middle infielder to light-hitting middle infielder with moobs. (BTW, Was sad to see the All-Star festivities couldn’t work in a wet t-shirt contest with Billy Butler and Pablo Sandoval. Like that wouldn’t be more entertaining than Nick Jonas playing softball.)
Mark Teixeira – What would a list of post-All-Star break hitters be without Mark Teixeira? Nada, nada, nada damn thing…

And my love/hate relationship with Raburn begins again…
@Derek Lee: You probably think this post is about you, don’t you?
I think you forgot one ‘nada’: nada nada nada, nada damn thing.
What’s Elijah Dukes without his swing?
Good read otherwise, Grey, love your shizz, as you would say, and I sometimes do now after reading you …
Are the splits on S. Drew not that dramatic?
Would you start both Gallardo and Jimenez tomorow in Coors?
@Grey: Thanks for making me feel slightly better about Stubbs. Feels like he hasn’t done anything but strike out in months. I miss the early season 30/50 pace, but I wasn’t really expecting that to hold up (half hearted lie we tell ourselves after our fantasy hopes and dreams crash, burn, and are finally rudely sharted upon after the fire is put out by the wind of 122 whiffs). Have Alexei too but I’m Ron Popeiling him anyway.
Anyhoo… Any updated thoughts on the Milwaukee closer situation? I’m hearing more and more rumblings about a closer by committee approach. Trying to package Axford, his facial hair, and Y!’s surprisingly 6th ranked SP Dan Haren off to the K-Rod owner in our league for Jered Weaver. Obviously, that ain’t happening unless Axford’s the set-in-stone closer. Has anything good ever come out of “by committee” anything in fantasy sports?
Who do I sit in a points league…thanks
Gallardo (@ Colorado – Jimenez)
Romero (NYY – Sabathia)
Bumgarner (@SD – Harang)
Cueto (STL – Westbrook)
Hi Grey — Derek Lee is available in both my leagues: would you take Lee over Kotchman (in a 20-team league where I drafted Morneau) and Smoak (in a 14-teamer) as the sometimes 1B sometimes UTIL? Thanks!
Also, would you start Liriano against KC?
@Steve: I bet you think you got that lyric right, don’t you? Don’t you?
My Pineda for his Stanton heads up
12 team dynasty league, both are close to the same salary…I’m very weak at OF but Pineda is so hard to get rid of right now
…any help or advice? thanks
@Grey Raburn or Cozart for my middle infidel?
Derrek Lee, Matt Joyce, or Denard Span for second half?
Getting sick of Russell Martin as my catcher in one league, drop him for Wilson Ramos or Posada? Ramos has the most upside no?
14 team league- Presley or Swishalicious for ROS, OPS counts.
grey-valverde/gardener for gio/swisher. which side do you like?
Is it possible the Yankees don’t DL A-Rod before tonight’s game?
Lucroy or Posada rest of the way?
Rank these goofballs for ROS please.
Lomo, Tabata, Snider, Bernadina, Sizemore, Ludwick and Thames
@AngryAxfordOwners
Supposedly, Doug Melvin said last night that K-Rod and Axford will have “less defined roles than in the past”. Can anyone say “co-closers”?
THIS JUST IN FROM REUTERS: AXFORD FLASHES CROWD WITH MASSIVE K-ROD
@Matt Damon: what about us angry K-Rod owners? They said this yesterday, but there’s also the caveat that K-Rod will not close out 21 games so his option doesn’t vest.
What’s Mark Teixeira without that swing?
Is Lee better than Wigginton or Valencia?
@Wilsonian
The popular thought was K-Rod would not continue to close after being traded to the Brewers. You should all be happy! Unless you’re a Mets fan… then I just feel bad for you.
non-keeper league, cut bait with rasmus for rajai davis?
12 team mixed league head to head categories..would you drop wells or snider for a second half Lee?
C – Soto
1B – Berkman
2B – Kinsler
3B – Reynolds
OF – Upton
OF – Bruce
OF – Holliday
Util – Vernon Wells
Bench – Snider
I have no room on my team to start Trumbo. Should I trade him for Eric Thames or should I shoot higher?
Also, Huff or Rayburn moving forward?
Chacin vs Greinke or Marcum vs Cook ? Thanks
Senor Grey,
. Two quick questions:
1) Madson off the DL in the next couple of days?
2) I heard K-Rod might share the closer role. Who would you roll out for for the long week coming up: K-Rod, Gregg, Isringhausen?
Thanks.
Grey, I have Prado coming off the DL, and he has 2B/3B/OF eligibility in my league.
My MI’s are HanRam/Alcides Escobar at SS and the Weeks brothers at 2B. I was thinking about dropping Escobar for Delmon Young, should I drop Jemile Weeks for him instead? Or should I stand pat. My thought was that Young has crushed Chen in the past, and I have an open outfield slot today…..
@Grey: Marcum or Cueto?
who do i drop to pick up masterson, gee or neise?
He wasn’t on this list, but I just can’t muster any mustard (or love) for S. Drew this year. His first half, especially June, was so lackluster that if he finished with a 10/10 season we’d all be excited. Ugh!
Gut feeling: will Rizzo and/or Moustakas turn it around second half?
If you’re in 1st in STLs by a lot and near last in AVG…
Howard + Gardner for A-Gonz? Fair?
Rumors that Nunez is on the block. Who takes over closing for the Fish? Mujica, Dunn, Cishek, Badenhop, Bueller, Bueller…?
Hey – love the website! Who do you like more in the 2nd half…
Cuddyer or Peralta?
Crisp or Rajai Davis?
Speculating that Nunez gets dealt, is Dunn the one to hold?
One more…standad 5×5 12 team mixed keeper league…
I have Heath Bell and a 21 save lead (80-59). Could use some offense…is Bell for Pence a wise idea or should I look for something more?
Start Garza tonight vs Fla? I can’t eat another 7 ER in a short H2H week.
@Grey: Bumgarner @ SD or Marcum @ Col?
Better matchup this week: Moseley v SF or Kennedy v LAD?
Anyone out there know how trading draft picks works in Yahoo? If I trade away my 2nd and 4th round picks for his 13th and 15th, that means I have no picks in 2 and 4 but 2 in both rounds 13 and 15 right?
I got offered jeter and Kemp for hanley with the above trade of picks. I’m very tempted. What do you all think?
Also grey would you drop melancon for isringhausen as parnell has been snapped up? Do we know who the mets closer is definitively?
addendum to last question…could use catching help too so would Bell for McCann be a fair place to start an offer?
So given what we know as of right now about the mets and brewers closer situations, in a league with no bench spots would you hold on to K-rod or parnell for right now?
@Paddyman – you’re right, but that doesn’t seem like a wonderful trade for you.
Hosmer for Hardy fair in H2H redraft? Hosmer’s usually on my bench due to a glut of CI, while Hardy would probably start at MI over the likes of Desmond and R. Roberts.
@Grey, @razzball nation: I’m in third place in one of my 10 team mixed 5×5 roto money leagues and need power and Ks. I’m thinking of offering Reyes, B. Phillips, and M. Adams for Cabrera and Ubaldo. I’ve been in talks with this owner and think he might bite on this deal. For him, Reyes would upgrade Aybar at SS, Phillips would upgrade Barney at MI, and Adams would give him saves in case Bell is traded (he also has Bell). I could slide Peralta to SS, Wiggy to MI (have Utley at 2B) and obviously get the power from Cabrera and Ks from Ubaldo.
Thoughts on this deal? I could possibly sub Utley in for Phillips, but I think Phillips has a little more perceived value.
Tommy John for Brett Anderson.
The Athletics have announced that Brett Anderson underwent Tommy John surgery.
Awful news. Anderson has been sidelined since early June with what was termed as elbow soreness. He was even given a platelet rich plasma injection in an effort to avoid surgery, but clearly he hasn’t progressed as hoped. The talented young left-hander is officially droppable in standard mixed leagues. We won’t see him again until late-2012 or perhaps 2013.
@Jake: Ha!
@Steve: Ha!
@Jeremy: Thanks!
@Lane: I just went over him two days ago.
@The Sequential Hermaphrodite: In most leagues.
@Marty Funkhouser: Axford would need to really screw up to lose more than 75% of the saves.
@ChiSox: Gallardo
@Enrique: Over both.
@Enrique: If I owned him.
@Steve: Ha!
@jim877: Sounds good.
@Howard: Cozart for now.
@K76154: Joyce
@TheNewGuy: Posada
@schlitzy: Swisher
@pubscout: Gio
@Black Beard: Yes
@BSW: Lucroy
@Johnny Drama: Lomo, Bernadina, Sizemore…
@Matt Damon: Bleh
@Ed Nugent: Ha
@Josh: Hold for now.
@ThePoonTycoon: If you need steals.
@JP: Hold for now.
@Ed Nugent: Higher
@Ed Nugent: Raburn
@Doc Pounder: I don’t know what you’re asking.
@Benson: Yes…Gregg
@TualatinTwoStep: Escobar
@Fletch: Marcum
@lopes: Gee
@ChrisV82: Ha
@Tchaikovsky08: Moose
@Jason: Sounds fair
@Ceasar: Dunn
@airweino: Sounds good.
@theguarantee: Yes
@weas: Yup
@Fletch: Bum
@AdamH: Kennedy
@Paddyman: I’d take Kemp.
@Paddyman: Nope
@airweino: Yes
@Mike: K-Rod
@Steve Stevenson: Yes
@Big Magoo: Sounds good for you.
@Steve Stevenson: @herschel: Oh well
@Grey:
are you buying into the rumor that ubaldo is going to be a yankee ?
thinking about running my new acquisition the big donkey out this weekend instead of R Howard. RH will be up at Citi Field where he never fares well … Donkey will be facing 3 righties up in Detroit. One is Verlander but he has homered off him and feasts on Scherzer (the third is Penny). Am I crazy to gamble on a donkey re-birth to open the second half?
@chata: FWIW, I don’t think the Yankees have the prospects to nab Ubaldo.
I know your not high on David Wright for the rest of the year. Im not that high on him either but I was offered Wright for Crawford or Uggla. Is it worth taking a chance on Wright if I have Moustakas at 3B? Crawford and Uggla haven’t exactly been fantasy studs themselves.
Hi Grey, I rarely ask for advice… but now I’m like Princess Leia’s hologram broadcasting from R2, “You’re my only hope…”
James Shields has burned me so much in the past, so I hate that I’m even considering this deal: I give Lind, get Shields.
12 team mixed h2h, I’m in 1st by a wide margin – thanks to my hitting, no thanks to my pitching (Gallardo, Liriano, Oswalt… than goodness for Masterson* and Pineda). But it’s a wide enough margin that I’m not at all desperate to make a deal.
*Is it just me or whenever I see his name I get all Nathan Detroit, “Sky Masterson’s in town!”
******Just saw Brandon Allen got the call over Goldschmidt
Reports are brandon Allen is getting promoted. Drop Chisenhall for him for an IF spot?
@Grey: I just offered and had accepted AlexieRam and Ogando for HanRam.Are the Rangers going to limit Ogando’s innings the 2nd half having only pitched 41 last year? good trade?
long h2h points week, would you start Beachy, who has one start @COL or Aroldis Chapman (Cin has 10 games)? holds worth 4 pts, wins worth 10
thanks!
also start cargo or brandon allen this week?
@chata: No
@jack: Yes
@Nonstoptalk: Sure, over Uggla
@peter: Ha…If you really need pitching, go for it. It’s fair.
@schlitzy: Nice
@royce!: Sure
@Doug Ault: I’d want Hanley by a lot.
@farcus: Chapman…CarGo
Thanks for the responses, but you missed this one…
Who do you like more in the 2nd half between…
Cuddyer or Peralta?
Crisp or Rajai Davis?
Schierholtz or Joyce?
clemens mistrial ….. your taxpaying dollars mis-working , again .
http://news.yahoo.com/judge-declares-mistrial-clemens-case-155623773.html
came up with a name for Sandoval that I haven’t seen elsewhere: Pablob
Grey, trying to move lind, which trade would you prefer:
A. lind for lilly/valencia?
B. lind/marcum for kershaw?
C. lind for norris?
D. lind for kennedy?
E. None of the above.
Thanks, as always.
Anyone see The Franchise on showtime? Thoughts?
@airweino: Cuddyer…Davis
@Lopes: Joyce
@chata: That was fast.
@Brad Fullmer’s Quads: Ha
@Exactly: B
@herschel: Nope
@Grey: Thanks for the earlier response. One last question: Allen (now that he got the call) or Moreland?
Grey, After discovering this site I would submit to you marrying my sister for endless fantasy advice for life. Let’s be best friends and party together every day. What do you think of this trade?
Trading: Michael Pineda & Justin Smoak
To get: Derrek Lee & C.J. Wilson
@Grey: I do too, I hope it doesn’t get veto’d
@Grey: if leo nunez gets traded, who do you like for sagnof in fla? dunn? mujica? cishek?? field??
Arencibia or Posada the rest of the way?
In my weekly H2H lineup, I only have room for one of the starters in Saturday’s Greinke @ Chacin matchup. Leaning Chacin, but could go either way. W, L and QS count. Who do you start?
@Big Magoo: Moreland
@Simon: Ha! I like it (the trade).
@herschel: Dunn
@LL Randell: Arencibia
@Steve Stevenson: Chacin
You still own trout anywhere? I’m thinking of ditching for B. Allen. What says you?
Question: Allen is listed in Yahoo as OF. I presume he will be playing 1B for the snakes and will gain eligibility for him there once the prerequisite time is up. As a Dunn owner this is kind of important to me because I have been struggling finding adequate replacement while he sits on my bench (can’t get myself to drop yet).
@strugz: Allen if you need power.
@Rob: Will play 1B.
Who wins these deals for this year and beyond:
1) Heyward/Andrus/Shields for Jacoby/Tulo/Scherzer
2) CarGo/Andrus/Shields for Jacoby/Tulo/Scherzer
@Wilsonian: Tulo…Tulo…
@Grey: so let me get this straight…you’d take the Tulo deals there in either situation?
Emoticon…
News/Analysis Headlines Preseason Outlook
Allen on his way to majors: The Arizona Republic reports that Diamondbacks 1B/OF prospect Brandon Allen has been told that he is being recalled from Triple-A Reno. He has hit .306 with 18 home runs this season in the minors. Allen has been playing a majority of his games at first base in the minors. Juan Miranda and Xavier Nady have been splitting time at first base for the Diamondbacks.

Injury Report
No information available at this time (Updated 7/14/11).
Fantasy Analysis
Allen has shown a terrific eye at the plate, as his .427 on-base percentage indicates. He offers a possibility for solid slugging percentage and OPS as well in the long term. He is likely up to get playing time and is worth scooping up immediately in NL-only play and taking a speculative flier on in deeper mixed leagues given his long-term projections as a top prospect in the Arizona system.
(U
In a bubble for the second half – ibanez, valencia, or r. roberts?
Thank you.
Brandon Allen or Mark Trumbo for ROS?
@The Vaporizers: trumbo over the unproven rookie
I am discussing a trade with a person who needs SBs and pitching while I need HRs. Right now, it looks like this:
I send Andrus + one of (Kershaw, Sabathia, Hamels, CJ Wilson, Beachy, Vogelsong or Ubaldo)
I get Tulowitzki
Which starting pitcher do you think makes for the fairest trade (with of course a slight or not so slight edge to me?) Thanks!
What are your thoughts on eduardo nunez? Is he the exclusive 3bagger taking a-rod’s spot for a month? How does he compare to other 3rd basemen? Worth a look?
Thanks
Let’s play Pick 3! One CI, one OF, and one UTIL for the second half from…
Lonnie Chisenhall
Josh Reddick
Eric Hosmer
Ryan Raburn
Raul Ibanez
12-Team Mixed, Roto, 5 regular cats plus OPS & K, if that matters
Also, did you watch Rivals last night or are you saving it for the weekend?
Thoughts on a trade I just offered up. Redraft 6×6 leauge OPS and CG’s extra stats, I am in 10th and hurting for Offense.
Offered Stubbs, Wiggington (throw in CI) and Pineada for Prince Fielder. Worth it? Offering too much, too little? I know the M’s said Pineada isn’t shutting down, but I am not so sure they will stick to that plan…
Need a fill-in for A-Rod in a six cat. that counts OPS:
Bonifacio, Headley, Valencia, or Moustakas?
@Wilsonian: Yup
@AL KOHOLIC: Nice
@Luke T: Roberts
@The Vaporizers: What AL said.
@Matt: Wilson or later.
@joe: Yes, he has some speed.
@Awesomus Maximus: Raburn, Ibanez, Hosmer…
@Shea Sera Sera: It’s fair.
@Black Beard: Valencia
@Grey: Would you drop Smoak for Brandon Allen?
Right now im using cozart at SS. Eduardo Nunez is available on the wire. Is nunez a better option at SS than cozart?
Keeper league, along the lines of my trade question above:
Was now offered Tulo/Scherzer for Heyward/Krispie/Beachy
I could then pick up any one of the following:
Pena, Markakis, Frenchy, Freeman, Trumbo, Kelly Jo, Snider
Without Heyward and Krispie, my OF is this: Kemp, Lind, CarGo, Bourn and we play 3 with 2 UTIL spots.
@Wilsonian: scratch that, can’t pick up Pena.
But what do you think about that deal?
grey,presley,allen or d brown
@Grey: I’d probably feel slightly better about myself if I got some of the hipper references you throw out there, but if I have to be 70s MOR guy, it’s a cross I’m prepared to bear.
@Wilsonian: or this deal:
Tulo/F-Her for CarGo/Krispie/Shields
Anyone else can chime in if need be.
Fielder and Zambrano or M. Holliday and Garza?
thanks
@Wilsonian: I don’t think you can pass up getting Tulo and Felix. But how many keepers and who’s at SS for you now? Then pick up Markakis or Snider.
@Donnie Baseball: yeah, that’s the tough part. We have 5 keepers and Andrus is at short for me now. These would be my potential keepers: Fielder, Tulo, Longo, Kemp, and one of either Heyward, Verlander, Lincecum, Hamels or F-Her.
Grey, how high are you on Eric Thames? Am I crazy for wanting to drop Colby Rasmus for him?
@Grey: Keep Freese over D. Lee, right?
& D. Hudson dropped in a small 10 Team H2H. I know you don’t dig on hoarding (see any of those crazyass shows?!) a Waiver Priority, but is he worth using up a #1 spot if I’d have to drop any of Bedard, Hughes or J. Sanchez? If so, which would you recommend releasing? Thanks for the help!
Ok, now he’s offered me this:
Tulo/Pena/F-Her for CarGo/Heyward/Shields
Take it like a man? I mean…er….
Drop Ax-man for Salas?
@Dad: Sure
@joe: Nah
@Wilsonian: Sounds fine.
@AL KOHOLIC: Brown
@Steve: I understand. I’ll see if I can work in some Deep Purple in the future.
@Donnie Baseball: Fielder
@Graveyard Duck: Yes, crazy.
@zombie: Yes…Yes, over Bedard.
@Wilsonian: It’s fair.
@zzzzzz: Salas
Please rank: D. Hudson, Garza, Latos, Wandy.
@Grey: then let me ask you this: if this would be my team afterwards, would you do it?
C – Napoli
1B – Fielder
2B – Espinosa
3B – Longoria
SS – Tulo
OF – Kemp
OF – Lind
OF – Krispie
UTIL – Pena
UTIL – Bourn
BN – Andrus
SP – Verlander
SP – F-Her
SP – Lincecum
RP – K-Rod
RP – Santos
P – Walden
P – D. Hernandez
P – Hamels
BN – Anibal
BN – Morrow
BN – D.Hudson
BN – Beachy
Or he would offer Scherzer/Tulo/Pena for Heyward/Krispie/Shields.
Which deal would you do? The one to get F-Her, but lose CarGo OR the one to get Scherzer and keep CarGo, but lose Krispie?
grey, a couple of start/sit questions for my RCL team tonite…
bartolo @ TOR? anibal @ ChC?
@Wilsonian: I take that back, the second offer would be Scherzer/Tulo for Heyward/Krispie/Shields.
News/Analysis Headlines Preseason Outlook
Lawrie back in game action: Blue Jays manager John Farrell announced that prospect Brett Lawrie will play for Class A Dunedin starting on Thursday and stay through the weekend. He will then be re-evaluated. Lawrie hasn’t played since fracturing his right hand with Triple-A Las Vegas on May 31.
(Updated 07/14/2011)
Injury Report
No information available at this time (Updated 7/14/11).
Fantasy Analysis
This is a surprising announcement seeing how Lawrie wasn’t expected to return to game action until August. Well, if he has a good weekend with Dunedin, then you have to wonder how far off his promotion to the majors will be. Fantasy owners need to keep tabs on Lawrie’s progress. He could be an impact rookie in the fin
@Grey: Heh, probably more Middle of the Road than Monsters of Rock (emoticon).
Quite a bit of Carly Simon, James Taylor, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac etc in my house growing up.
grey and razzballers,
drop desmond jennings for brandon allen? or is jenning worth the 2-3 week injury wait because of his upside? allen likely won’t start for me unless he starts crushing
@Donnie Baseball: I just did a 2nd half top 100…Hudson, Wandy…
@Wilsonian: Scherzer/Tulo for Heyward/Krispie/Shields — Sounds fair.
@tom: Anibal
@AL KOHOLIC: Thanks for the heads up!
@Steve: Like a white winged dove…
@dan rydell: Sure
@ALL
Better H2H play for the short week at OF?
Swisher (4 @ TOR) or Wigginton (4 vs MIL)
heyward and adam dunn or grady sizemore and morse
which side? I rarely play sizemore and Morse fills either my OF or UTIL spot. So I would insert Heyward in my lineup everyday and watch and see if dunn can turn it around.
what order would you rank for ROS
Daniel Hudson, Morrow, or Scherzer?
@grey, I put morse in the trade, but I meant to say Hosmer. I have 3 1B, with a 1B and 2 UTIL spots. So I would need to trade either Hosmer or Lind to open a spot instead of Morse
Anyone worried about playing Ortiz this week? He’s 99% going to appeal, right?
Wouldn’t really care in roto, but in H2H pts it can make all the difference this week.
grey encarnacion or chisenhall
@Grey
Should i accept a trade for B.J. Upton and 10 roster moves for my Hunter Pence. My league is a 12 team h2h format and has a max of 55 roster moves. I have about 20 moves left.
My roster

Prince Fielder

Elvis Andrus

Jacoby Ellsbury
OF
Hunter Pence
OF

Carlos Pena

David Wright
@John: your taking an ave hit and some rbi,s and ganing steals,if you can afford that than yes
a-rod to DL … on yahoo
Howdie, Grey. Do you prefer Aaron Hill or Raburn? I own both but may try and trade one (if I can get anything that is). Ta mucho
@Grey: ok, so if I do that, I have to pick up a utility bat…who’s the pickup:
Kelly Jo, Delmon, Markakis, Snider, Walker, Castro, Frenchy, Trumbo, Freeman, Rajai?
grey:start Ubaldo tonight at home vs Brewers?….I know Ubaldo has been a lot better recently,but most of his worst starts have been at Coors,and the Brewers Lineup in that park scares me.
@Grey: Thanks for the input, as always.
Which side would you take in a Wright+Haren+Axford for A-Rod+Weaver or King Felix trade?
I threw that out there and got some positive feedback. Only thing that worries me about it is A-Rod not making it back by playoff time. I’ve got Aramis at 3rd right now though, so Wright is more or less expendable to me.
Hmmm, just looked at the stats and historically Dunn hits far less well post all-star. I want(ed) to trade for him and the potential 20 bombs but, not even counting this season, history shows this to be unlikely. Darn it, would you still offer for him?
I was offered his Dunn for my Panda but I’m pretty sure I’m sticking with Sandoval
@Oilcan Giuseppe: 10 team h2h 8×8 league
@Chris: Swisher
@Will: Heyward
@Will: Scherzer, Hudson…
@Will: No idea what you mean.
@Jake: Probably appeal.
@AL KOHOLIC: Chisenhall
@John: You don’t need more steals.
@Eng: Raburn
@Wilsonian: Johnson
@Oilcan Giuseppe: Sure
@Marty Funkhouser: Wright
@Eng: I’d take Panda.
Grey, would you accept a trade for Kelly Johnson and Erik Bedard for Martin Prado?
Just lost Brett Anderson for the year and i’m stretched thin with my staff.
@Grey: Could I ask why you’d take Wright+Haren+Axford over A-Rod+Felix/Weaver?
I know it’s not because you believe in second half Haren being a better option than second half Felix/Weaver, so it must be A-Rod, Wright, or Axford. I’ve been fine without Wright and I have an extra closer to give. Even if I didn’t have a healthy A-Rod until September, the end of the season seems to be when he’s been at his best. Do you just believe he won’t be healthy/worth much the rest of the year because of the surgery?

@Grey: thanks man, I think I’ll take your advice. You don’t think I should do the CarGo/Heyward/Shields for Tulo/F-Her/Pena deal and stick with the Heyward/Krispie/Shields for Tulo/Scherzer and pick up Kelly Jo deal?
thank you grey for your witt and wisdom
@Grey
Thanks for your advice.
@chata:
thanks for the update .
2nd inning and every single blue jay has score …. 9-0
14 team 5×5, 3 keepers per team, Which side would you want?
Josh Hamilton, Morse, Yunel
for
Hanley
$1 says colon hits the D.L soon
@aj: josh
@jessegeeeee: Sure
@Marty Funkhouser: Essentially it’s Wright for A-Rod, Wright’s due back in a week or two, A-Rod’s having knee surgery. You want to trade Wright that low, go for it.
@Wilsonian: CarGo/Heyward/Shields for Tulo/F-Her/Pena — Better deal.
@AL KOHOLIC: No problem.
@John: No problem.
@aj: Hanley, but it’s fair.
Could you please rank Eric Thames, Alex Presley, and Mike Trout ROS?
Bautista turned ankle sliding into 3rd.
Grey, no Tulo for big 2nd halves. Didn’t look at any stats, but seems like he always has a huge 2nd half.
Also missed this article when it came out. Makes you wonder how these guys get their jobs. Just like Bowden, always wondered how S. Phillips got his job. The comments section is the best. And you have to give him credit for reading the comments and responding to them.
http://espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-office/post/_/id/389/simple-stats-to-evaluate-teams-players
@Schmohawks Bob: Thames, Presley…depends on need.
@VinWins: Was it bad?
@Donnie Baseball: Nice!
@Grey: Ha. Earlier you told me not to start Colon, Hughes, or Miller over the other choices I gave you. After, I noticed Colon actually gets a third start in my leagues extended scoring period and started him over Luebke (your choice). Colon proceeds to drop a bomb on my score. You think the ship has sailed on Colon being a reliable fantasy option or am I dreaming wishing he could pitch as good as he was he did in the first half? He bailed me out bigtime from losing Oswalt….
@Grey: Didn’t look too bad. He left the game. Reported to be a sprain, which could mean a day or a few weeks.
@Grey: thank man. Just to clarify, it’s a 5 player keeper so if I dealt CarGo my keepers would then be Fielder, Tulo, Longoria, Kemp and then one of Verlander, Lincecum, F-Her. But if I didn’t deal CarGo, he would be my 5th keeper.
Still do the F-Her deal?
@Grey: Thanks for your patience. I figured that was your thinking behind it, but I wanted to know for sure. Have a tendency to talk myself into something and not want to back down from it. Unloading what’s been a horrendous second round pick in Wright for cabbage is one of those “somethings”. You’re like a one man fantasy baseball suicide hotline. Keep fighting the good fight, sir.
Jose Bautista has been diagnosed with a “twisted” right ankle and is considered day-to-day.
Bautista suffered the injury while running the bases Thursday, tweaking his ankle at first base and then hurting it even more on a slide into third. He’s being called “day-to-day” but could miss multiple games. John McDonald filled in on Thursday night.
@C.O.C.: Not crazy about owning Colon.
@VinWins: Gotcha
@Wilsonian: Sounds fine.
@Marty Funkhouser: No problem.
@herschel: Thanks for the heads up!
First half Gallardo is apparently second half Gallardo.
Mini Donkey slumping… Ks are racking up. Hopefully he hits one out to get him back on track.
Drop Liriano for Adams/speculative saves?
@Grey: thanks man, once again, for the advice.
Can you rank these few OF bats, and would you still take Kelly Jo over them?
Snider, Markakis, Delmon
I’m at Petco, wondering how a team with Nate Shierholtz hitting cleanup could be in 1st. One of the many mysteries of the world, really.
@Grey: which 2 do you like best for ROS – hosmer, lind, or morse?
@Eddie: Ugh
@Feeding the Abscess: Hold
@Wilsonian: Snider, Delmon… I’d take whichever one was currently hot in a shallow league.
@royce!: Scream at someone to bring up Kyle Blanks.
@will: Lind, Morse…
So did I see that right? The Brewers let Gallardo bat and then pulled him?
If you’re a manager, you have to go your own way, I suppose.
@Grey: many thanks.
Do my eyes deceive me, or did Napoli really get a steal?
@Steve: Wanted to embarrass him further, I suppose.
@Wilsonian: He’s a man of many talents.
Would you drop Ian Desmond for Cozart at this point?
Grey, I need your input. Do you think I need more/better SP.
1. Verlander
2. D. Hudson
3. Chacin
4. Zimmerman
5. Beachy
6. Karstens
7. Luebke
8. Leake
9. Beavan
In 5th right now, 14 team league. 9×9..W, L, K, CG, ERA, WHIP, SV, HLD, QS…25 man roster. Only have 3 RP. Hernandez, Coleman, and Perkins.
My Roster looks like this.
C. Ramos
1B. Votto
2B. Kinsler
3B. Reynolds
SS. Reyes ( Cozart at the moment)
OF. Kemp
OF. Stanton
OF. Gordon
UT. Frenchy
UT. G. Sanchez
B. Trumbo
B. Ackley
B. Hosmer
H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, R, SB, AVG, OBP
Watching Marmol blow Garza’s win was fun.
NOT.
I hate the Cubs and I hate myself for loving the Cubs.
@Brian: No
@pipa: Surprised you’re in 5th. Team looks pretty solid. Don’t think your staff needs major help. Punting saves isn’t a great way to go. Is this a keeper? Why do you have so many rookies? Maybe trade one of your bench rookies for a #3. Like Kuroda or Garza.
@Feeding the Abscess: That was brutal.
@grey:
Not sure how well that will work. I think the people around me are confused that adrian Gonzalez hasnt batted yet.
Seriously, I’m like 14 rows directly behind home, but surrounded by Giants fans. At least it brings up the attendance…
@Grey: Thank you, sir. And on Rivals..?
@royce!: Yeah, diehards, just for the wrong team. Sounds like Petco.
@Awesomus Maximus: The only thing missing from this season: More CT. Wasn’t sure why they talked feverishly about sending in Evan but then when Kenny and Wes were gonna be in no one talked about sending them in to face CT and Adam. Kenny or Wes could handle Adam with one hand then they have three hands for CT.
Be nice if LoMo could join in the fun in Chicago.
@Grey: If Wandy is traded to a contender, how will his value compare to Gallardo’s for the rest of the season?
Not a keeper, just like the rooks…..yea, I’ve been trying to move Hosmer and Karstens but our league is tight with their SP. Thanks for feedback.
@Steve: Wow, Marmol really lit up a bomb.
@MJD22: I don’t know where he’s getting traded.
@Grey Crapoli with a combo meal!!!!!!.
Random commenter tomorow: Should I pick up Crapoli……yes, yes you should……
Yikes Holland – don’t collapse in a heap now.
@Grey: who wins… Beltre/Stauffer for V-Mart/Cueto or does Panda instead of Beltre make a difference?
@Grey: he’s also dining on a nice slam n legs tonight…
@Hans: Ha!
@Fletch: V-Mart side if you put in Pablo. Beltre side otherwise.
@Wilsonian: Yum
@Grey: Yeah, like I wrote a while back, CT just doesn’t seem as unstable as usual… very disappointing so far. You noticed, I’m sure, that Wes was the one pushing for CT/Adam in the challenge until it was his ass on the line… Powder-lookin’ douchetard.
Hey grey…what do you think about Joe Saunders? I think Colon has finally run out of gas (fortunately I left him on my bench today) so I’m looking for a replacement. 40% of the d-backs remaining games are against LAD and SD and from glancing over their schedule, it appears his next 6 starts will be against LAD, brewers, SD, SF, Houston, NYM. Also, 7 out of the backs final 9 series will be against SD, SF and LAD. He’s not going to help much on Ks, but one would think he would put up a solid #s otherwise against some of the weakest offenses. Thoughts?
Why has Nate Schierholtz stopped hitting?
Because I picked him up of course.
@Steve: read my thoughts
