Jonathan Broxton blew his first save because of an error and he’s out as closer. Hmph. The Dodgers’ GM Colletti said the Dodgers would turn to Padilla and Broxton with Kuo joining the mix when he returns at the end of the week. Hmph. Hmph. Mattingly then said last I checked Colletti doesn’t have a goatee and Broxton is still his closer, no committee. Hmph. Hmph. Hmph. Whatcha gonna do with all those hmphs? All those hmphs up in your trunk? Then Mattingly called Colletti a dwarf brain and shaved his goatee to reveal a cold sore. Got all that? Glad one of us does. I’d own Broxton and Kuo. Wouldn’t mess with this Padilla or this Padilla. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
James Loney – 4-for-4 with a steal. I almost wrote the other day how there’s no way Loney stays hitting .200, but then I grew bored and fell asleep… Snooze…
Phil Hughes – Underwent four hours of tests on his arm. Towards the end his arm just started answering C for everything.
Roger Bernadina – Recalled by the Nats. I picked him up in every league he was available. Yup, even that one. Bernadina has 15/20 upside if he can stick with the club. Chances he sticks aren’t great but aren’t quite slim to anorexic either, so there’s that.
Wilson Ramos – 3-for-4, 3 RBIs and 2 home runs. That’s a badonkadonk, for those from the Bronx.
Carlos Gonzalez – Held out Tuesday because he’s sucking on the ol’ suck wagon. Well, I got this schmohawk right. Now if only Jose Bautista would get mono from Casey Kotchman.
Jorge de la Rosa – 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 9 Ks. I don’t own dlR anywhere but I get a lot of questions about whether he’s ownable, so it makes me question him. Doode has a 2.61 ERA. What are people looking for?
Todd Helton – 2-for-5 with 2 homers. Did the Rockies wear throwback unis yesterday?
Casey McGehee – Sprained his thumb on the last play of the game on Monday and was held out of the game on Tuesday, leaving him on the bench to twiddle his thumbs — sick, painful irony. If that’s irony, I have no idea.
Ryan Braun – Hit his 9th home run yesterday. Yeah, his power is gone, Naysaying Preseason ‘Perts.
Jose Contreras – Has a strained elbow and will miss about a month, assuming he doesn’t have any setbacks. But 67-year-olds tend to have setbacks getting out of bed.
Matt Harrison – 3 IP, 7 ER. Don’t worry, Harrison, nothing can ever sully your Trapper John M.D. performance.
Carlos Carrasco – His MRI came back “perfect.” Not to be that guy, but wouldn’t it be perfect if he didn’t have to go for an MRI?
Jack Hannahan – 3-for-4 with 2 homers. If only Barbera could’ve been alive to see this.
Justin Masterson – 6 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks. Rudy and I spot started him in, but since he has a 2.18 ERA on the year, we might not be returning him to waivers. Stay tuned! Or not. Your choice.
Shin-Soo Choo – For an appetizer, I’d like the slam. For the entree, I Choo-Choo-choose the legs.
Grady Sizemore – 3-for-4 and his 3rd homer, but was caught stealing. No legs for you!
Pedro Alvarez – 0-for-4. That’ll show ‘em!
Garrett Jones – Hit his 4th home run yesterday. Robot is probably going to get the worst counting stat 20+ homer, 10 steal season in the history of baseball.
Charlie Morton – 6 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 6 Ks. Now has his ERA down to 3.00. We should all be aboard with Morton by now, yah? Yah.
Aaron Harang – 6 IP, 8 ER. Did the Braves scare him by wearing Dusty Baker masks?
Brandon McCarthy – 5 1/3 IP, 7 ER and 15 baserunners. In San Diego, they call that a strong offensive homestand.
Coco Crisp – Left the game with quad tightness. Doesn’t sound cerealious.
Ryan Roberts – 2-for-4 with his 5th home run, batting .333. Pedro Alvarez has one homer and is batting .205. Kill me.
Mitchell Boggs – 1/3 IP, 1 ER and his first blown save. After the game, Ryan Franklin said, “See!”
Hanley Ramirez – Working on getting a hitch out of his swing by getting his foot down quicker. I wonder where Hanley picked up a bad habit. He seems like such a model of strong work ethic.
Jair Jurrjens – 9 IP, 2 ER, 11 baserunners, 4 Ks. I don’t think it continues, but I have no problem riding Jar-Jar while he’s on a roll.
Billy Butler – 1-for-4 and a WTF (Warning Track Fly). A Butler specialty.
Mike Leake – 7 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 6 Ks. Turnabout is fair play as the Brewers stole the victory.
Sergio Santos – It’s now back to back saves but this last 2 out save should go to Brent Lillibridge who made two outstanding plays in RF. Lillibridge fields like he’s nailing Sergio Santos’ sister. Juan Pierre fields like Thornton is nailing Juan’s sister.
Gavin Floyd – 8 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 10 Ks vs. the Yankees. If you had the balls (or lady stuff, for our three girl readers) to start him in The House They Built Next To The House That Ruth Built, you deserved this start.
Clay Buchholz – 6 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 14 baserunners as he tied his owners to the WHIPping post. Now has a 5.33 ERA. Good news, he should be better. The bad news, not that much better. The neither good or bad just what it is news, if you listened to me you don’t own him. The okay news that needs to be said because it is really big news news, there is no okay news that needs to be said because it is really big news news.
Adam Lind – 3-for-5, 5 RBIs and 2 homers. This is the kind of performance that makes me so hesitant to tell anyone to drop Carlos Pena too. These guys just need three good days, and they have their counting stats. Sure, it’ll be great to get this game from Lind without the previous 23 games of crizzap, but so it goes, so it goes.
Zach Britton – 6 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 2 Ks. Fantasy-wise, Britton should be owned. Real world-wise, when do the castmates find out Zito used to do gay porn?
Phil Coke – 4 1/3 IP, 7 ER. Hope everyone is now done experimenting with Coke. Shizz is bad for your nasal passages.
Matt Cain – 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 6 Ks. Then David Lynch filmed Matt Cain’s post-game interview.
Carl Everett – Pulled a gun on his wife after she said she believed in dinosaurs and Darwin Barney was her favorite player.

Yo Greyski!
Trash swap who’s side you on?!
Team A: Carlos Pena, Ervin Santana and Sean Burnett
Team B: Pedro Alvarez and Angel Pagan
Drop Swisher for Gardner, Kubel, Huff, Boesh or Aaron Hill?
Thanks.
If Santos holds down the closer job all ear I will buy White Sox season tickets next year. This guy tried giving away the game. Thornton and Sale have to be wondering why they can’t have that defense. Maybe they’re confusing their teammates by throwing backwards.
I enjoy the idea that Brent Lillibridge is attempting to impress Santos since he’s diddling his sister. At the same time Thorton is walking into Juan’s house and saying “this is my remote” and hes wearing the same clothes as him.
@Grey, thought of a good one today when I realized just how happy I was that Edwin Jackson has been crapping the proverbial bed ever since I traded him (I know, I know, I read your Edwin sleeper post this year):
Marge Schottenfreude — the evil pleasure you derive from seeing a player you’ve traded away doing poorly. “I felt some Marge Schottenfreude seeing Edwin Jackson give up 8 earned runs the week after I traded him.”
[A more vulgar but possibly funnier alternate version is Shitenfreude, when you're happy if a player you've traded away plays like crap.]
Nice Carl Everett closer!
Someone dropped Torii Hunter. Drop Raburn for him?
deadliest catch,jake got caught smoking dope on the boat,this after his rehab stint,im with you jake,couldnt get me out there without being high,hehe
grey-cuddyer or pena
I just want one day without a Pedro Alvarez comment please… its not like he went 0-5 right? Thats so much worse than 0-4 imo Kill Me.
Damn I miss the Hanna-Barbera Happy Hour. Herculoids… Tarra was hot!
@Grey: Re-post of a question I asked earlier… How would you rank these second basemen for the rest of the year: Johnson, Cuddyer, Espinosa?
chewbacca masks!
I didn’t copy the link to your F&F yahoo league. Would you please let me how to get there so i can see how yinz (Grey and Rudy) are stacking up against those yoohoos.
Are we starting Gallardo vs CIN today?
10 steamer 1500ip.
@Jackie: Yes.
@timSTi: Yes.
How confident are you in Wade Davis today? I’m considering him for a spot start, just a little nervous. Any advice is appreciated lol..
The Cain/Eraserhead reference is beyond perfect. Wow.
My team – 9×9 roto:
C – Soto
1B – L. Scott/Pena
2B – Cano
3B – Freese (Zimmerman on DL)
SS – Tulo
CF – Bourn
OF – Braun
OF – Granderson
Util – Jones
Util – Espinosa
Bench – Drew, Wigginton, Willingham (A. Torres on the DL)
SP – Verlander, Sherzer, Chacin, Floyd, I. Kennedy, E. Jackson, A. Harang
RP – Not relevant
Just got offered Rios for I. Kennedy. Do I take it? Would appreciate commentary from anyone. I’m leaning towards yes.
Grey, I’m pretty sure the only reason Bernadinha was recalled was to fill Ian Desmond’s roster spot until he returns from a brief paternity leave. So I don’t know if your RogBern fantasy is going to come true just yet….
Sergio Santos for President!!!
With Coco Crisp’s hammy not being so roughs & toughs with his afro puffs, I’m looking for a replacement. Standard Yahoo 12team H2H Mixer. I’ve got decent speed, so so power. Any of these jump out at you?: R.Davis, LaRoche, Smoak, G.Jones, Rabrun, Ordonez, Byrd? …. i know, it’s fugly…
Grey-do you have any interest in Jason Bay?….Im in a 10 team 8×8 h2h keeper league,and I have Swisher and Travis Snider(who I think I have been pretty damn patient with,hanging on to him since last season) sitting on my bench.
would you drop either for Bay at this point?any of them would be my 5th OF at this point.
Lot of 7th pitcher options in today’s post. Msterson,Morton,britton, Floyd. What’s your order and do you drop Harang, Beachy or McLellan for any of them?
@ Grey or anyone else
Who would you roll with at 1B the rest of the year, Ike Davis or Adam Lind?
@IgnatiusJReilly: i’d keep snider over a no upside injury risk like bay. snider’s acg may be shit, but he had a big may after a shit april last year AND despite his avg, he has 12 RBIs and 5 SBs, so he’s giving you value elsewhere.
i really pissed off the fantasy gods this week, watching the angels’ blahffense throttle gio and mccarthy for my, while kennedy and gavin floyd throw gems. normally i throw guys as much as i can, but with innings limits and an already high era, you gotta make decisions. i obviously made the wrong ones this week.
@knighttown: i’d go with masterson and floyd over harangutan and mcclellan. maybe britton too. upsides v. little to no upsides. morton has 18Ks and 18 BBs, so i’m waiting for the bottom to fall out on him.
you are one funny dude, thanks for the laughs.
@Grey – No commentary on Daniel Hudson? Is he turning his season around?
@Grey; @Anyone: With Longoria allegedly coming back next Tuesday, I need to drop someone, but I don’t know if anyone is actually “droppable”. Here’s my roster:
Wieters, Fielder, Zobrist, Wright, Andrus, CarGo, Kemp, Krispie, Dunn, Gordon, Tabata, Longo – DL; Lincecum, Verlander, Bills, Gio, Hamels, D. Hudson, Pineda, Soria, K-Rod, Walden, Lyon, Santos, Strasburg – DL
I already shot out Gordon/Lyon for an upgrade in closer, but no one was biting. I can play 5 RPs at one time, which is why I have 5 on my team.
Would you try to deal CarGo and a closer and try to get 95 cents on the dollar for him, or do you see another package deal I should make?
This is obviously my 8 Team league, and we do have 5 keepers as well.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
@Wilsonian: tbh i would probably drop lyon unless you pull off a 2-for-1 upgrade. lyon sucks and i’d be surprised if he keep the job all year, plus he doesn’t get your Ks and hurts the ratios. i know you can start up to 5 RPs, but even in an 8 team league, most folks are gonna only be starting 3 or 4, and until some of your hitting shakes out (can gordon keep it up? what about tabata? etc), they definitely aren’t worth dropping more than a shitty closer.
Drop Soto for Napoli, Avila, Conger or Ramos?
@Wilsonian: also, i’d think you might be able to get holiday or someone for cargo + lyon. surely someone is convinced it’s just a slow start and they can get a free closer out of a relatively even swap?
Dusty Baker masks, nailing sisters, dinosaurs and even some helpful fantasy advice…this post had it all. Grey, it should be framed in the Razzball HOF! I shiat myself, spit out my coffee and fell out of my chair all at the same time.
@Grey: Reference to your Gavin Floyd post: Yes, I do have big brass ones hanging off the back of my truck. lol.
@ThePoonTycoon: I would most likely tend to agree with you about dropping Lyon, especially if Santos works out. I know the guy with Holliday won’t deal him because he’s a HUGE Cardinals fan. But I could target some other guys with a CarGo deal. I only worry that he might pick it up sometime in the near future. And like you said, it’s a waiting game to see if Gordon and Tabata work out. Plus Dunn needs to remove his head from his jackass and become the Big Donkey again.
don’t understand your endorsement of Morton. he has the exact same number of Ks as walks this season. his major league stats have always been crappy and he was even mediocre in AAA last year. he’s 27 years old. what am I missing?
Daniel Hudson finally broke through with a win. Would you trade him for Zack Greinke in a H2H-Points League?
drop wood for baker?
Last two nights, my SPs have been Narveson, Harrison, and Oswalt… less than 9 IP, 19 runs on 22 hits and 5 walks. If I hadn’t dropped Harang, it would have been even worse. The only good thing about this is that my season was already over before the debacles, so this just makes it funnier and it means a higher pick for me next year. =)
To add insult to injury, I had benched Alcides two games and he went 3 for 8 with a SB. Started him again last night against my gut and he goes 0/4 again.
I should have joined a razzball league this year.
Staff is Gio, Yovani, Brett, Wandwagon, Ogando, Dempster (and Cueto DL).
Drop Dempster for Beachy?
@papasmurf: i hear ya, i love how i’ve complained how good the pitching is and the hitting is down the tubes, yet where’s my good pitching? i’ve gotten 3 losses this week in my H2H leagues and given up 11 runs, broxton, harrison and hanarahahanan! TWO CLOSER LOSSES! things just aren’t going well…..
@PepeSilvia: he changed his delivery…it’s an exact replica of Halladay’s.
Pick one Catcher: Hundley, Ianetta, Ramos, Thole?
@ grey……Santos or Boggs? I am currently using a rotation of Storen, Madsen and Boggs. I would have to cut one to pick up Santos.
Thanks!
@Grey – Would you take Charlie Morton over John Lackey?
Bud Norris or Chris Narveson?
In a points league, I can only start three of my four starters today.
Which three should i roll with?
Billingsley
Chacin
Anibal
Bartolo
Grey! absolutely brilliant! killed it with the Carl Everett comment… For those who don’t know. Carl Everett has gone on record saying that he doesn’t believe in Dinosaurs… HAHAHAHA (kills me everytime i think of it)
On another note, Mitchell Boggs with his 1st blown save last night… I hear Eduardo Sanchez calling pretty soon…
@ Grey – How much slack do you think Boggs gets until TLR goes back to Franklin or throws a save to sanchez?
@Wilsonian: yeah i seen the comparison of him next to halladay on thier deliveries,really close,@MD: yeah boggs looked terrible,choked
@AL KOHOLIC: yeah, it was on MLB Network last week. Looked pretty damn close. Assuming Morton can keep it up, or even close to it, I’ll take a flyer/flier on him in a deep league.
In a Holds league, give up on Jake McGee’s “upside” to grab Santos or Hensley?
Pick Two: D. Young, Zobrist, Coghlan?
Please rank these waiver wire pitchers (mostly for short term use)
Ogando, McClellan, Beachy, Britton, Lohse, Hellickson
fellas, let me know if i’m crazy or not.
Im in a deep 12 team NL only keeper/dynasty league. I’ve been going hard after Jerry Sands after missing out on him last week. My trade offers have been getting shot down all week. I’m thinking about going over the top and offering this guy Krispie Young for Sands and Anthony Rizzo (who i think will be called up shortly). I had Belt at 1b, so i’m currently rolling with Jeff Baker there.
May seem absolutely crazy, but if Sands hits for what Grey projected over a full season, the only real difference is the Steals (for which i have plenty of).
I have Krispie for $32 (of $260 cap). I would get Sands @ $10 and Rizzo @ $2 and would be able to keep them at that price for the next 3 years…
Am i nuts, or is this something i should be jumping on while Krispie is hittin 400ft bombs?
it’s not just the eraserhead look, it’s the mood of the weird lighting that makes the pic lynch-esque. but for me, i laughed out loud seeing cain standing there erect, staring straight into the camera with that expressionless face. it was as if he was a robot programmed (by the guy giving the interview?) to wreck some evil havoc on the populace.
@Phil: santos
@Phil: oh holds ?not sure
Lind + Bench =’s Sonuvabench
That Matt Cain post might have been your best yet. Nice!
Oh, also, I have Lowrie for $1 in a dynasty league. If he’s legit, then this is a steal. If not, I could probably sell him for something dece. Should I hold or deal?
@Grey: Drop Trumbo for LaPorta? Or is he Trumbo’s droppelganger?
Will Bernadina be platooned?
Another Trumbo query:
Who’s the better all-categories roto 1B – Smoak or Trumbo?
Nice update, thanks Grey. However I don’t really see the similarity between Lind and Pena. Lind will hit at least 40 points higher in batting average, that’s where Pena kills teams even if he is hitting home runs. Same with Reynolds, but at least he has 3B in his favor saving him from the waiver wire.
Ha! Just clicked on the Cain link. Bravo
@Jrock: B
@Derrick: Gardner for steals…
@Napoli is Free!: Ha
@RaysFinsFSU: Ha!
@Joba the Heat: Why is it Marge besides it sounding like the dead Reds owner?
@Jackie: Thanks…Sure.
@AL KOHOLIC: Ha!
@AL KOHOLIC: Pena
@Wilson’s Beard: Johnson, Espinosa
@Tony: Hehe
@Doc Pounder: http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b1/13380
@timSTi: Yup
@MrHappyTime: Depends on the league.
@I-man: Thanks!
@Salty Balty: Sure
@Josh: He was, but it’s not like Ankiel’s doing anything.
@Hans: Ha
@Harry Caray: Smoak
@IgnatiusJReilly: Nope
@knighttown: I’d hold for now.
@Dan Z: Lind
@Baby Gorilla: Thanks!
@D Tiger: I like him, didn’t think yesterday was the greatest start.
@Wilsonian: Pineda
@kg: Eh
@Commish Cauda: Ha, thanks!
@Spartacus: Nice
@PepeSilvia: 27 isn’t old. His sinker is getting a lot of ground balls and he’s throwing it a lot. Don’t make me defend him too much though, it’s not like I love him compared to a lot of other pitchers.
@Commish Cauda: I’d take Greinke.
@Learn Teixiera: Eh
@papasmurf: Ouch
@AdamH: Eh
@meetthemuts: Iannetta
@Steve Jeltz: Santos
@William: Yup
@Hardcore Midget: Norris
@Futureman: First three.
@MD: Thanks!
@MD: La Russa might change it up next game out.
@Phil: Santos
@Phil: Last two.
@Cheetos & Fritos: Ogando, McClellan, Hellickson, Beachy, Britton…
@MD: Seems fair, but risky.
@frog: Yeah, pretty hilarious.
@cubbies299: Thanks!
@cubbies299: Depends what you can sell him for.
@Eddie:I’d hold for now.
@Joe: Not sure of his playing time yet.
@Lob Ball: Smoak
@Eng: Meant because they can hit 5 homers in a week and slump badly other times.
@Grey: Thanks. Good stuff as always, and the Jurassic Carl zinger was magnificent.
@IgnatiusJReilly:
I am playing in a 12 team 5×5 and i droped Snider. In a 8 team league you will almost always find someone on waivers or FA who could give you Snider and his numbers. I would go with Bay and see what happens. He after all is still someone who hit 30+ home runs in 4 out of 7 full seasons and this is why he in my opinion should get the benefit of doubt. The guy can hit. He just has to show it again. I am starting him and he is not hurting me while Sinder was a pain for way too long. He is worth it to keep an eye on though.
@Grey: I made the offer of Krispie, Franklin, and Jonathan Singleton (Single A masher for the Phillies) for Storen, Sands, and rizzo.
figure i’ll start with that and see where he takes it… thoughts?
@AdamH:
Drop Dempster for Beachy in a heartbeat
I expect a rain out between Detroit and Seattle today.
Hart is back and I have to drop bourjos or coghlan. Just looking for a nice utility player for the year. Who you keeping?
@AdamH: Don’t drop Dempster. It’s still April. He’s a proven high K pitcher. Give him two more starts, if they are poor also (or one is terrible) then maybe do it. I watched him against the Dodgers and anything that touched the bat and went airborne went out the park in that wind.
@Chinaski: hey chianski, how did floyd do on your bench last night? haha. gotta roll with the good feelings brotha, no risk no reward… White Sox are turning it around right now, I wouldn’t doubt they sweep the yankees and run with the AL central from here on out.
If you think about it, if the White Sox didn’t have 6 blown saves, they would already be a top the division (or atleast close). So they had a rough 2 weeks in the bullpen, lost a few spots, and now if Santos ends up being the real deal (which he very well could be). they should be able to right-ship. The weather is starting to heat up across the country, and their bats have historically started slow.
Thoughts on Markakis? Is he a Buy Low candidate for a guy like Span? His BABIP is around .200 right now.
Also, better pickup: Santos or Kuo?
Grey who’s the better bet for saves sale or thornton?
@MD:
wow i am so pissed i didnt trust your feeling! Great performance performed on my bench. Ouch
Barney’s out of the lineup today.
Regular day off?
Has anyone heard/read anything to the contrary?
@grey- would you trade alex gordon and jonny cueto for matt garza? Thanks.
@artie: barney’s not an everyday starter. He’s still in a platoon situation with Jeff Baker (technically). they actually have both been hitting the ball very well. some cubs fans are actually calling for baker to platoon at first with Carlos Pena at this point… ridiculous
@artie: barney’s been so hot he’s been playing constantly, but he hasn’t really been officially anointed as a full-on everyday player yet, has he? i kind of expect it to happen, probably soon – he’s got all those intangibles managers love so much – but he’s not to the point yet where him being out of the lineup in one game is really much of a surprise.
@MD:
Platoon? Where did you see that? He’s been playing everyday.
I just ask because he was meant to fill in for my Uribe.
@MD: jinx!
Thanks everyone.
What are the latest opinions on Hellickson? With 5 closers (Hanrahan, Perez, Nunez, Farnsworth, and Walden) and a slight lack of starters, was offered Hellickson for Nunez. Do Razzballers have confidence in him?
@wily mo:
Hmmmm.. Ok. But I can’t lie, I was surprised today
@Eddie: Thanks!
@MD: That’s good.
@the mexicutioner: Coghlan
@stumanji: Santos… Eh on Markakis. He’s okay.
@mets fan: Thornton
@Martin: I’d take Gordon.
@AdamH: Potential roofies, but I do like him.
@Grey: so you don’t think I should make an offer with CarGo for a Holliday-type? I just dealt for Pineda with Farnsworth, so it would seem counter-productive to drop him. Thanks for the advice, it’s appreciated, as always.
I was offered Pineda (and Zambrano who I would just drop) for Santos and Shields. I’m leaning towards staying put. Who is gonna be better this year Pineda or Shields?
I was offered Cliff Lee for Cargo straight up in a 12-team H2H.
My other OFs are Kemp, Rasmus, and Pence (also have Bautista who is OF elig) and my SPs are Haren, Scherzer, Gio, D. Hudson, Morrow, DLR, and McClellan.
Thoughts? Thx.
The sight of Ryan Dempster on my roster makes me ill. Keep the faith that he can’t possibly keep giving up a HR every 3+ innings or drop him for any of the following?
Norris, Leake, Wade Davis?
Thanks!
Hi Grey: Assuming their starts aren’t puked back because of rain delays today, who do you like more for a spot start tomorrow between Baker (vs. TB), Pineda (@DET) or McClellan (@HOU)? Thanks!
@Tony:
Well, at least in H2H it’s still just one loss no matter how ugly it gets. You might as well get all the shitty outings out of the way at once if you’re gonna lose anyway.
In roto leagues, the damage is lasting. I am used to sucking in picking hitters, but usually I get saved by top pitching year after year. This year, my team has shit hitting AND shit pitching. The first time I’ve sat in last place this late in the season… and there’s no end in sight. The hole’s already too deep and talent not good enough to come back.
14-team weekly H2H, start 4 SP (no P), 3 OF, 1 Util. Can get Krispie for Marcum. Would leave me with SPs of Greinke, Hanson, Chacin, Lilly, Shields, Holland. Usually start Swisher and Abreu in OF with Ortiz at Util, so Krispie replaces one of them. I do this in a heartbeat, right? You still like Greinke more than Marcum going forward?
@Grey
RE:even that one?
10 team 5×5 weekly
For the U: Stick with the twidler McGehee, or from the wire Bernadina, Coghlan, Hannahan, Chipper, Abreu, or Napoli?
I’m in the top 1/3 of standings and could use a little boost in R/HR
Grey and Everyone:
I was offered Ubaldo for my Ian Kennedy in 5×5 roto with QS league.
This is a no brainer for me to accept right?
@SP: Do it ASAP.
Set em and forget em, pick 2: Lind, Kubel, Konerko
@Wilsonian: Sure
@Nuke LaDouche: Hold
@EK: Looks fair for you.
@RA Dickey Jokes: Davis
@Enrique: McClellan
@Steve Stevenson: I’d do it.
@Buge Hoobs: Hold
@SP: Yup
@Kazmere: Lind, Konerko
@papasmurf: goonies never say die.
My H2H league counts losses, its a 10×10, but you’re right after this week the slate is wiped clean, my bombs in my RCL are starting to mount up, harrison chucking up 7 runs is not helping….
@Nuke LaDouche: I’ll be looking to do a similar deal soon…but I’ll be giving Pineda
@EK:
Keep Cargo. Don’t sell low on him. He is still at top 10-15 player overall.
well, now they’re saying barney was in the original lineup and got scratched, so who knows. still no actual word of an injury. i feel like more likely they just realized that baker has to play at least once a week if they want to even maintain the pretense of a platoon.
@R.A. Dickey Jokes:
Wade Davis is really undervalued right now IMO.
Brett Wallace Watch?!
another rough start for billingsley
anybody watching ?
Naturalists need days off too.
@Grey: thanks man, I definitely appreciate it. Out of these guys, who would you legitimately target with CarGo/Lyon:
Crawford, Holliday, Joey Bats, Heyward, J-Up?
coghlin just cleared the bases
@chata: unfortunately
@chata: I hate Billingsly. I hate the fact that I actually have him on my team. If he gets shelled, he’s getting axed from my team. I’ll feel better about myself.
My Gordon Beckham, Kyle McClellan, Sean Marshall for his Mike Leake, Alex Gordon. I can vulture more Holds off waiver. Thoughts?
@Wilsonian: and there you have it…adios Bills…luckily I only have him in an 8 Team league, so he can go figure his shizz out on the WW…
Does anyone else think that Matt Cain looks like Nuke LaLoosh in that picture?
I don’t have Billingsley anywhere, but my (trash-talking) opponent does and I’m a big Marlins fan.
AWESOME HIT.
Marlins have really been taking advantage of opportunities in the last few games. I’d actually think twice before starting pitchers against them these next few days. I learned this the hard way with Kershaw in a couple of leagues.
@Grey:
Is it worth benching Alvarez until he heats up? Or should I trade him for a SP such as DLR or Lilly?
mlbtv is having another “FREE game of the day”
braves @ padres …3:35 pm
@Wilsonian: I hear ya. And I thought Bills was my best potential start today with Gallardo and Liriano being the other two.
@grey- just to follow up on my previous comment, I thought you said to sell high on Alex gordon. Therefore, im curious why you like gordon+cueto more then garza? Garza’s sabermetric numbers are very good. Thanks
@Wilsonian:
not to make excuses , but ,
this was the equivalent of a 9am start time for bills .
@chata: true, but he’s looked mediocre at best this year. He’s shown me absolutely nothing as to why he should be owned in an 8 Team league.
morrison likely out 3 weeks (not 2) with that foot injury
switching over to the reds / brewers game
stubbs 1st pitch single vs gallardo
@Grey: Thanks. Who do you like best out of these back of the rotation fliers to replace Marcum? Drabek, Wolf, McClellan, W. Davis, Leake. W, L and QS count.
@Grey: gotta leave Harang in next week in weekly leagues, right? 2 home starts vs Pit and Ari?
bruce single stubbs to third .
votto hits 3-1 pitch out of the park to left field .
3-0 … no outs
@chata:
Good news is Narveson shat on all the teams that have Gallardo.
Something is up with him.
And Gallardo and Bills were my top two SPs today (I use the word “top” loosely). At least I own Votto.
Gallardo is shit, right there with Bills…
i have owned gallardo every year since he came up,im so glad i dont own him anywhere this year
Grey, would you endorse grabbing Maybin off waivers ahead of Bernadina?
Is Edinson Volquez starting for the Brewers today?
@Wilsonian: Yeah. On that note, Grey and everyone, would it make sense to drop one or both (and maybe Liriano pending today’s outcome) and go to more of a streaming strategy? I’m in a 10-team league and there are lots of good pitchers on the WW, good for spot starts. I’m last or next to last in ERA, WHIP, and K, and I can’t afford to keep eating what these schmohawks have to offer. Thanks..
@bogbert: @Wilsonian:
i’ve got chacin going in the next game .
try not to jinx him for me .
@bogbert:
liriano has value .
maybe not in your eyes , but others hold out high hopes that
he will put it all together .
don’t drop him .
trade .
Add me to the list of those with Gallardo and Billingsley going this afternoon. I’m fashioning a noose out of computer cables as we speak.
@Tony:
I played H2H for a few yrs back in the day. One year I finished second by one game despite having more points than the first place team overall. It was pretty frustrating. I would win blowouts and lose close games. Luck was such a big determining factor.
@Grey: (RE: post #95)
I hate playing the “what if” game, but I know less about real baseball than the fake. Just how important is the off-hand thumb in batting? McGehee is listed and day2day, so I’m not sure if that type of injury eventually leads to significant time off. I’ll hold as suggested, but if he does go DL, who’s the pick up? I can’t see Bernadina playing more than a couple of days for a paternal leave replacement.
@sean: @Grey: I had that little voice in my head as I was setting weekly lineups that Gallardo against Cincy, even in MIL was not a favorable start. Then I had that whole, if you draft him as your horse, you have to ride him business and started him across the board. Is it time, with more shizz starts than good ones, to consider benching Myvani til he starts pitching better than he hits?
I’ve been offered Danks for A. Gordon in a 12 team 5X5. I have Youk and Reynolds at 3rd. Braun, Bruce, Rasmus, Victorino, Beltran, Dom Brown in the OF. SPs are F-Her, Gio, Beckett, Anibal, Hell boy and S. Baker. Accept or Reject?
how would you rank the following four for the rest of the season?
bjupton
pence
berkman
grady sizemore
thanks!
@chata: For some reason there’s very little trading in my league, and players rarely accept trade offers. Also, with the exception of one person, people only pick up currently performing players from the WW, so if a star is not doing well, he’ll sit there. Clearly no one has been educated by Razzball. I hear you on Liriano, though, and he’s one I’m more likely to just hold on to and wait. And not start today.
pineda or beckett?
that’s for a keeper league but i need solid starting pitching for this season
@Wilsonian: Holliday…
@t-rex: Sounds good for you.
@ScottyM: Ha
@Eddy: Sure, trade him.
@Martin: Because Cueto and Garza can be a push.
@Steve Stevenson: McClellan
@herschel: Yup
@chata: Dammit!
@sean: Eh
@Buge Hoobs: He’s playing today so it can’t be that bad.
@sean: I don’t know his next start off the top of my head.
@Ffej: Accept
@dja: Pence, Upton, Grady…
@Grey:
Did not know that! Thanks!
@Grey and @Everyone:
Am I missing something with Charlie Morton? He’s hardly owned and has been touted quite a bit here. His career K-Rate isn’t great, and his career walk rate isn’t great either. So far this year, he’s 1:1 K:BB. What am I missing? I feel like I need to pick this guy up but I have no idea if this is some secret inside joke.
@Grey: does that mean Holliday is the only one I should shoot for?
Grey, Broxton got dropped in my league. I was about to dump Burnett for Rauch, should I grab Broxton instead?
What the hell is wrong with Gallardo?
@Eddie:
I dont know, but hes absolutely killing me. I have to bench him at this point, hes doing irreperable damage.
I’m an idiot for starting Gallardo against the Reds. The Reds always rock that guy.
I guess, though, now would be a good time to go after him.
Kuroda or Danks?
@Elijah:
I know, the bastard is killing my pitching stats and worst of all he’s not striking anyone out any more either.
Any even slightly questionable team or venue for his next start and I’m sitting the guy.
Better spot start options on the waiver wire at this time rather than watching him suck as he tries to figure things out.
I’d rather take the hodgepadre behind door #1 at this point than what he’s giving me.
Thanks for the help Grey.
After Kennedy and DLR give me a glimmer of hope for my Whip and ERA to rise from the cellar, Gallardo goes and brings me back to reality. Watch out SD, Oakland, and Seattle, the Cleveland Streamers are about come rolling through.
carlos gomez …. learning how to hit ??
@Elijah: He hasn’t tossed a quality start in weeks, and his K’s are way down from last year. This is terrible.
Gray, trying to work some trades and such, what order would you rank BJ Upton, Bruce, Morneau?
Prince, Frank Frank and billingsley for Brett Anderson, Cliff Lee and Youuuuk, which side?
@Smell The Golve: I wish the random Hodgepadre was even an option for me. 16 team H2H league where starting pitchers are overwhelmingly valuable. The ‘best’ waiver options right now are Vin Mazzaro, Nelson Figueroa and Chris Volstad. I’ve got no choice but to keep rolling with him.
@William: He’s throwing a lot of ground balls, own him instead of Jered Weaver? No. Instead of James McDonald, sure.
@Wilsonian: Yup
@Killer Joe: I would.
@Ffej: Kuroda
@t-rex: No problem.
@xopchipili: Morneau, Bruce…
@broadstreetbrawler: Lee
@Grey: So how about Charlie Morton v. Fausto Carmona?
Gallardo is chucking a bunch of balls into the dirt. He looks like when the guy who gets to throw the opening pitch is some weirdo who doesn’t know how to throw and whips it into the ground 10 feet short of home plate. Painful.
@Grey,
Jay Bruce for Cole Hamels, which side wins?
@Nuke LaDouche: Are you watching the game? Is it location only or is his velocity lacking?
NEWS:
Darren O day expected to go on the 15 day dl. (probably won’t affect most, but for those save vultures, this makes oliver and rhodes a little more valuable, probably oliver.)
Also, Joel Piniero is expected to be activated off of the 15 day dl to start Saturday vs tampa bay
Location. He is in 92-93 region. He is all over the place though. Looks like he just has no confidence in his command right now.
@Nuke LaDouche: That’s marginally comforting I guess… Thanks.
@William: Morton
@B.J.: Hamels, it’s fair though.
@MD: Thanks for the heads up!
@Ffej: real close,danks might k a few more kuroda better era and whip
the brewers tried the shift on bruce,in the last 2 days dusty has been working diligently with him about going to left,he starts off 2 for 2 both to left field,hopefully something like this gets him going
looking for holds and low era/whip with SP eligibility: Padilla or Takahashi?
@Ffej: Kuroda.
@Grey: I gotcha. It probably won’t happen. The guy with Holliday is a huge STL fan, and even though I stole CarGo last year from him in a deal he probably won’t do it.
I’m really wishing I didn’t deal Bruce last week. I could use his potential with the CarGo/Krispie train currently detailed and with Tabata coming back to the pack.
Roy Oswalt is taking a leave of absence for ‘personal reasons.’
trying to find his fstball he seemed to loose last night
@AL KOHOLIC: Maybe his favorite tractor died.
Alex Gordon and Greinke for Pence and Harang. Who wins?
I am not sold on Morton. A) he plays for the Pirates B) His WHIP is too high for my liking C) And I’m not liking that K:BB ration! I’ll eat my words if he improves however.
Someone just dropped WandWagaon in my 12 team, 8X8 (+L, ER, and Total Bases) H2H. Start 3 SP, 3 RP, 4P. Most teams value the RPs heavily (best RPs available on the wire are Ram-Ram and Bastardo!)
I’m at the bottom of the waiver order, so it’s most likely a moot issue. but I’ll put in for it for giggles. Would it be worth dropping Ed Jax or Ed Volq?
there ya go reds,add 2 more runs to gallardo
will broxton get another shot?
Padilla warming up in the pen. Dodgers up by 1 of an Ethier blast.
@Eddie: @AL KOHOLIC: He’s going back to Mississippi due to all the severe storms there. Word is the cover blew off of one of his favorite tractors. Manuel said through his translator, something about how you better get down there son and check on that lil’baby.
Should note that Padilla was supposedly already throwing at the start of the inning before Ethier’s shot.
@Wake Up: he he
@AL KOHOLIC: Vicente Padilla is Spanish for Joe Borowski.
@Eddie: I’ve never felt so guilty getting a save from a guy.
@Black Beard: SAGNOF, man. Nothing to apologize for. I did the same thing.
Gallardo is an effing idiot.
@Wake Up:
Ha!
latos going for his 9th straight loss
again , the game is FREE , on mlb.com
@Eddie: Being both a Padilla owner and a Broxton owner…so bittersweet.
Padilla actually didn’t look all that bad. From my (very uneducated) viewpoint. His pitches had good movement despite his nonexistent velocity (never rose above 91, I believe).
re: Marge Shottenfreude, I was just thinking that happiness in others’ misery is evil, and Marge embodies pure evil.
On an unrelated note, I was just offered Zimmerman and Russell Martin for Beltre and Posey. 10-team H2H points league. Thoughts? It’s a keeper league so I was looking forward to keeping Posey, and do Zim’s injuries worry you? Now is the time to sell high on Beltre, obviously…
@Joba the Heat:
beltre stated , the other day , that he’s “not locked in , yet” .
I’m sitting there on draft day at roughly pick 68 thinking… Gallardo or Weaver? oh Lord, why didn’t I go with my gut! last time I will own this guy. I’m sure he settles down and has a half way decent year, but ugh, what an awful start. At least strike somebody out!!
@Frank: Gordon
@Buge Hoobs: Volquez
@Joba the Heat: I’d take Zimmerman.
Anyone have thoughts about starting Liriano today?
joe saunders sucks .
he has always sucked .
i’ve never once rostered him , yet , he continually finds a way to screw me over .
latos is toaast
latos only 1 of 6 earned but still,6 frikin hits,get on the tractor with oswalt
Would anyone suggest dropping either J.Zimmermann or D.Hudson for Bumgarner, Cueto or Norris?
De La Rosa or Shields? They seem similar, but I can’t have them both…unless you feel Hanson, T. Hudson, Kuroda or Marcum should go instead.
Looking to sell high on Weaver. I’m “really proud of myself” because of it. What would be approximate value in terms of a hitter. OBP league. Top 20 hitter? Thanks man.
I was just offered Matt Cain and Soto for Hunter Pence. Is this a fair trade? I’m leaning towards no.
Espinosa/Baker or Johnson?
looking for holds and low era/whip with SP eligibility:
V. Padilla or H. Takahashi?
@The Donald: grey might know better but id try maybe adding a mid level O.F. or 3rd guy and shoot for an a-rod,bautista,type.I wouldnt sell him cheap at all,he is a top 5 pitcher
@The Donald you could probably pull off top 20 hitter, 4 categories type guy (think Teixeira) and an average pitcher in return.
@Wilson’s Beard: if you mean josh johnson,then him by a landslide
Willie Grey Hayes,
I have an Alcides problem. He is killing me in my H2H league. I have even gone to the extent of benching him in favor of Mike Aviles for the past couple games (can’t believe I have TWO KC middle-infielders on my squad!). I still believe in him and his speed potential, but is it too soon to cut bait? Do you see him hovering around the mendoza line all season? Or will there be better days?
Thanks,
AB
Everyone is sitting the MadBum right?
Sorry, I meant Espinosa/Baker or Kelly Johnson…
I was trying to figure out what people think of Baker this year. Top 40? Better than Liriano, as Rudy said? Or the usual sabermetric tease, like Nolasco?
Currently have Arencibia at catcher. Weekly league using R, HR, RBI, TB and OBP. Would you drop him for either of Ramos or Conger? Added bonus: I can keep Arencibia next year at $8, would not be able to keep the other two.
@Asdrubal Bastardo:
He’s behind the count a lot. He’s hitting too many groundballs, and lately the K’s are piling up too. That K/GB combo would be good for a pitcher, not so much for him.
A side note… Latos is my 5th straight start to get rocked (if I count Dempster). I dunno how to deal with this mess of a rotation… I’ve never had it this bad.
I think the real world tonight is where they find out dustin did gay porn.. they showed the preview last week and heather was pissed..
@bogbert: Start him.
@AL KOHOLIC: Ticker shock!
@ChiliDavisConCarne: Nope
@Jason: dlR
@The Donald: Yup
@Rustyautoparts: It’s okay.
@Wilson’s Beard: Kelly
@trick dad: Padilla
@Asdrubal Bastardo: It’s not too soon.
@Nuke LaDouche: Yup
@Charlie: I’d hold.
@Gambler: Don’t think there’s an episode tonight.
I smell a Disgraceful List stint for Broxton.
@Wilson’s Beard: i like espinosas upside,i dont like baker,overall ,the edge still probably goes to johnson,bakers not bad just one of those guys ill never own
Elbow soreness, should’ve lead with that. Sorry!
@Grey: Was there anything encouraging in Gallardo’s ‘outing’?
That clown is my No.1 in my H2H league and he’s killing me.
More a vent than a question, but I am getting awfully tired of Dan F-ing Uggla. ..
@Grey: CarGo/Lyon for Holliday deal shot out of the skies. I’m looking at targeting Crawford and trying to buy low. What do you think is a fair buy low offer? Is Krispie and an SP2 or 3 too much? Too low?
@Stophe: i hear ya theremkept him in a keeper auction league for 21 bucks,was willing to live with 260 ave but him and pena couldnt hit a joint
Aw Krispie. Thanks.
@Steve: Sets up a possible Hold opp for Tony the Bastard.
Just snagged Alexis Rios off of waivers. He’s gonna come around and be decent right?
@Steve: i think im glad im not in holds leagues,
@AL KOHOLIC: It’s a pretty silly stat, but it’s still better than Games Started and Losses
@Nuke LaDouche: You know what bro, I’m actually starting to wonder the same thing. I got him for $36 in an AL only roto league. I’m a big time white sox fan, and I’m in Chicago. The big news is that he has pretty bad pain in his big toe (on the right foot i believe). He said it’s at the point where it even hurts if he’s just walking down the street. It has definitely affected his hitting at this point, and I guess they tried to give him some sort of shot during spring training, but it didn’t help any. The weird thing about the injury is, he said it has bothered him for years. So I’m not sure if the pain has increased or the injury has worsened this year, or what. But he doesn’t look like the same player he was last year to me right now (and i watch every white sox game). His swing is powerless, all arms, his lower body doesn’t really move. I’m actually starting to get worried.
Note to self… Never click the little button that says “notify me of followup comments via e-mail”… My mailbox is getting more hits then a hooker in Charlie Sheen’s hotel room.
@Steve: yeah did you see my wins/loses?like 8-13,and latos adds another loss today
and i didnt know about the latos being shutdown the night of the draft or i would have kept hammels for 23 instead of latos
@MD: Well that sucks to hear. I saw all that about his big toe, but still kinda figured he would come out of it. I’ve never been a big Rios fan, but I figured a potential 20/20 guy sitting on the waivers had to be snagged. I’ll just sit him for a while and hope he turns it around.
Wow, Hanson has been just sick lately. Last four stats has averaged ~1.30 ERA and just under 9k a game (done in my head so could be faulty). Plus, I didn’t have to deal with the early season crap since I traded Granderson for him, but considering those crappy early games getting down to a 2.70 ERA overall is damn impressive.
Anyway, heres my question: who would you pick between Kennedy and Daniel Hudson (keeper)? And would you want any of Baker, Narveson, Volquez, Ervin Santana, or R Zimmerman over either of them? Thanks Grey!
Sorry, also who would be the best catcher for me to use as a fill in until Mauer gets his virus removed: Buck, Baker, JP Arecibia, AJ Pierz, Salty, or Doumit?
Broxton wasn’t able to pitch today because of elbow soreness…seems to have Disgraceful List written all over it.
So Putz doesnt get brought into the game last night for a save chance but they bring him in today down by 3? Kirk Gibson is a twat.
Grey – Should I use my #1 waiver spot on Swisher? Damon is currently my UTIL #2 / spare OF
Im getting killed with my 3rd and 1st/3rd spots with longoria out.
I have Carlos Pena and Wilson Betemit.
Cuddyer should clear waivers Thursday…short of that im stuck with likes of:Jose Lopez, Miguel Tejada, Danny Valencia, Lyle Overbay, Kila Ka’aihue, Jack Hannahan, Felipe Lopez
What should i do. 5×5 roto 14 team. could use help with sb and runs
is Nick markakis curbside pickup worthy? Im about ready to drop him but dropping a guy who a year or 3 ago was a 4-5th round pick seems dirty!?
he’s batting .207 with 2 HR’s 9rbi’s and only wait…. 0 stolen bases?
ughhh….
@Grey: Most excellent Carl Everett flashback!
C’mon now Grey, Padilla’s Padilla but Kuo ain’t the same Kuo. I’m all over the Vincente like Chloe in “Brown Bunny.”
Roger, we have Bernadina. Prepare for lift off.
Not quite Dirty Sanchez did us dirty today. Sadness.
@aj: longo’s supposedly back tues….
Grey, talk to me about Dominic Brown post injury. They say Mid-May. Hit a homer today in rehab.
For what it’s worth, I prefer Jennings…so long as he makes it June 1.
@Tony: Thanks Tony….Now i need Hamilton to come back.
@Steve: Nope
@Wilsonian: And an SP 2 is about right.
@Nuke LaDouche: Sure
@Tony Tone: Hudson
@Tony Tone: Arencibia
@Ball Deep: Eh
@aj: Those guys aren’t helping with runs or SBs.
@Tony: Sure
@3FingersBrown: Ha!
What the effing eff hole is wrong with Gallardo?!?! He is my “ace” in my H2H league. And I had Bills going today too. At least Bills has had some good outings. Gallardo gives me nothing but a steaming pile of turd every time he pitches.
What do you do with a dude like Will Venable. In an 18 teamer, his 8 SBs are very valuable. But they have all been on my bench because of his other counting stats.
Would you play him and get his 40SB while sacrificing everything else?
BJ Upton or Chris Coghlan?
3 Year keeper life
My team – 12 team 5×5 head-to-head keeper league
C – C. Santana
1B – Votto
2B – Just picked up Aviles since F. Sanchez not starting tonight (Utley on DL)
3B – M. Reynolds
SS – Jeter
CF – J. Upton
OF – C. Young
OF – R. Roberts
Util – M. Teixeira
Bench – None (Add/drop as needed)
SP – J. Johnson, Scherzer, Chacin, Morrow, Gio, E. Jackson, E. Volquez, Narveson
RP – Axford, Hanrahan, Farnsworth, Santos
I was thinking about using my #1 waiver claim on just dropped Ian Desmond, Coghlan or A. Soriano. Which of the three would you recommend, if any? And would you drop Volquez or Narveson (I’m leaning toward Narverson)?
Thanks
Need help deciding who to start tonight… Pick 2 of 3: Morneau, Lind, Napoli. I’m thinking the first two, but Napoli seems to hit a bomb every time he starts. And Lind generally doesn’t hit lefties well (though he has done well against Holland).
@Scout: Yeah, it’s frustrating.
@artie: Gotta play him in a league that deep.
@A2K: Upton
@Wilson’s Beard: First two.
Casey Blake is out for a month with an elbow infection! Only Casey Blake.
@Wilson’s Beard:
Well you want to play Lind because he’s in Arlington, the park he hits bets in his career. Not sure about the last two.
@AdamH: Narveson for Coghlan.
@Tom Emanski: Yup
Smoak just hit a 3-run bomb off Verlander. Smoak or Frenchy at util hitter?
@Grey: and of course Krispie hits two jacks today making me not want to send out an offer with him in it…
Grey, I was offered BJ Upton/Hunter for my Stubbs. Meh, I’m not feeling it. I was thinking of counter offering with something like Upton/Jorge DlR for Stubbs? Or should I be selling higher on Stubbs, since this guy has put in multiple offers for Stubbs. Thanks
Drop Gardner, Oliver (Tex), Kennedy, or none of the above for Coghlan in a keeper, assuming I’m essentially equally set at SP, RP, and hitting?
@GTS: Smoak
@hamsterdam: I’d counter with that.
@Tony Tone: I’d hold.
@Grey:
Who wins in a 12 team H2H keeper league:
Jered Weaver (7th round)
for
Marcum (8th) and Greinke (4th)
Those would be 2012 values. Is it close?
Start vogelsong @pit tomorrow? Any insight about him long term?
How much patience is one supposed to have with George the Catcher?
Time to dump Gaby for Smoak Monster? Seems like he is figuring it out and Gaby is pretty dull at best. 12 team Keeper.
@Eddy: Weaver, it’s close.
@Trick dad: Eh
@Steve: I don’t know what your options are.
@Nuke LaDouche: Sure
Basically, if you’re a starting pitcher, you better hope you’re not on any of my teams. I know this is on three teams, but Verlander, Bills, Gallardo, McCarthy, Narveson, Coke (drugs are bad), Hudson…
Drop C.Lee for Smoak, P.Alvarez, R.Roberts or Bourjos for UTIL slot?
Drop T.Wood or EJax for Bumgarner?
12 team 5×5
@Grey: 5 x 5 roto, who do you like (short term) out of gomes, roberts, wallace, helton and fowler?
raburn and m. young both get 2b eligibility (in cbs) today…woohoo!
@Steve:
posada / tostada
avoid both .
@chata: I am trying hard to be patient with him, but it’s not easy.
Really the only thing that’s stopping me from dropping him is that I just know he’ll start hitting as soon as I do.
Getting really tired of seeing the letters INF after Liriano’s name in my stat-tracker.
.75 cents on the dollar anyone?
@Grey: Just about anyone looks better. I’ll probably just hold.
Elsewhere, Is it time to drop Gordon for Freese?
@Grey: Liriano: Baby steps my ass… Ha!
Frank Liriano is definitely tossing BP out there…anyone getting worried yet?
@Wilsonian: I’ve been worried since I drafted him, this just confirms my poor decision. I’m thinking his roster spot is better spent streaming. Terrible.
@Wilsonian: His infielders are worried they’re going to be killed by a screaming line drive.
Did someone break the spell by reminding Verlander that he’s terrible in April?
Oh well, at least I just dropped Trumbo for Smoak.
I really thought that this was going to be the start where Frankie turns it around. Well at least I have Zo and the Legend of Sam Fuld on a different team.
Bedard looking pretty good.
Holy shit.
http://www.hamwx.com/?page_id=3969
I hope any Razzballers are OK.
@Steve:
it seems the last good decision that i made was
keeping hanson , and letting liriano go .
but that was last november .
this is ridiculous, LIRIANO, really? effing unbelievable…. everyone else has mowed down the shitty longo-less line up…. I’m about ready to drop him, yet i wont because i’m a seasoned vet who knows better, but WOW, what a joke…. last time i listen to you grey! (JK)
I never saw this bad of a start coming from a lefty in the shittiest division in all of baseball….
Colon looking surprisingly convincing. Admittedly against the BABIP-cursed White Sox but the hits they got off him were mostly cheapies; pushier defense would’ve stopped most.
@Tony: and im a tribe fan!!!
Man Tabata has REALLY cooled off…
Is Choo/Elvis too much to give up for Holliday? Keep in mind I may be tainted by the A’s trading CarGo for Holliday and him basically shitting all over the field for half a season, so if I’m undervaluing him thats the reason.
Would you trade Lester for Jose Bautista straight up? Im last in most offensive categories, thanks to Ryan Zimm and Han-Ram, and could use the offense. Got Haren, De la rosa, Billingsley, Jordan ZImm, Hellickson, Scott Baker…
@Tony: Since you have him in RCL, I don’t feel quite so bad now. Kidding. I still feel awful.
Of course it’s a damned if you do situation. Drop him and watch him do work on someone else’s team. Been here before, I drafted and dropped Scherzer last season…
And Buehrle looking serviceable too. Plus put a beard on Bartolo Colon and Andruw Jones and they’d look like a pair of Santa Clauses.
@Wilsonian: Ha
@Money: Lee for Bourjos
@herschel: Gomes
@Steve: I’d hold.
@3FingersBrown: Ha
@Tony: Yeah, it’s frustrating.
@Tony Tone: A bit steep, not terrible though.
@JoshC: I wouldn’t.
@Grey: don’t laugh…my 16 Team H2H team ERA for the week is 10.71!!! That would be special thanks to Coke, Narveson, McCarthy, and Gio…
In all seriousness, should I just hang on to Tabata for the time being in my 8 Team H2H league, or pick up Frenchy or Coghlan in his place?
I am so disappointed in myself for never having attended a minor league game (I just returned from the Padres game, which almost counts). I’ve been missing a lot:
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Video-Minor-league-ballpark-plays-host-to-histo?urn=mlb-wp4625
How appropriate that a Hacker should replace Liriano.
Man, things have gotten bad for Liriano…they actually pulled him in favor of a Hacker. Jeez!
Sonofabeeech!
I@Steve: I’d love to come visit you in NZ, but it might end with a fight to the death…
http://faculty.cua.edu/johnsong/hitchcock/pages/doubles/doppelgangers.html
What about Ichiro for Starlin Castro in a keeper league? I’m pretty week at MI…
@royce!: I don’t know. I’m pretty wimpy so you could probably take me.
Yoooouuuukkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I gave you the proof–I was born in the damn US of A! Now I need the pudding.
This is like choosing which path Greece should take to get out of her economic troubles but here it goes:
Betancourt, Brandon Wood, Barmes, Daniel Murphy, Adam Kennedy, Jeff Baker…………….rank or just pick one(or do both). 20 team 4×4 league.
thanks and keep up da good work
-YH(&BHI)L
@Steve: Yet another reason we’re doppelgangers.
Speaking of doppelgangers, in high school history class we were watching some documentary on education and the video had a German high schooler who looked exactly like me, down to the same haircut and clothes. Everyone laughed and laughed and I had no idea why because it creeped the hell out of me.
@royce!: It’s a pity our RCL teams are not doppelgangers.
German high school student? Did he have an enormous mullet?
@Steve:
did you start tomlin ?
@chata: Nah. Someone else got to him before I could completely make up my mind.
@Steve: Duh, of course! I said he looked just like me!
I have one add left for the week. I was going to add Alex Avila and ride his bat until Geovany Soto decided to start playing baseball again, but then I noticed that Gavin Floyd is on the WW. My rotation as it stands is Gallardo, Cain, Daniel Hudson, Ervin Santana, Hellickson, Randy Wolf, and Gio Gonzalez, so I have quantity but not much quality.
Who do I go with?
10-team H2H – drop A.J. Burnett for Floyd for the rest of the year?
@3FingersBrown: we’re in the same RCL! i dont own him in OUR rcl, LOL…. am i wrong?
My overall ERA and WHIP this week is so funny. (7.80……1.59 respectively) suprisingly i’m not surprised
Tyson Ross owners whose H2H opponent has Fuentes are pretty unhappy right now.
Someone tell me I absolutely cannot drop Liriano. I would trade him but I highly doubt I could even get someone to take him. Ugh.

Whoops. Not sure how that happened.
grey, in a really deep league trolling for saves….burnett or oliver?
Yeah, the episode is tonight.. But I missed the first 15 minutes so I don’t know how she discovered it. (bang head on wall)
Would you dump Rodney for Padilla?
Sanchez is in for Cards for the save in Houston.
@Steve:
screw TLR!
@Grey:
Grey, the owner countered with
Weaver (7th), P.Alvarez (7th) and Narveson
for
Pineda (23rd round) and Marcum (8th)
What say you?
also Oliver on the verge of a mound-crapping
@Steve: And I just scrambled to pick him back up in the RCL. Dropped Colby Lewis for him…not very happy with that decision, but I panicked, thinking that someone else was going to grab him while I thought about who should get the ax. Maybe that could be a more obscure Glossary term- dropping someone you shouldn’t have because you’re panicking while trying to figure out whom you should drop for SAGNOF…maybe too obscure.
@royce!: Uh oh…
@royce!: And I’m quickly becoming less and less enamored with that add/drop…
@Wilsonian: Ha!
@royce!: Wow
@JoshC: It’s fair.
@potus: Ha! Baker…
@Rob: Go with Floyd.
@nick m.: Sure
@the grate one: Oliver
@Kazmere: Yup
@Steve: Wow
@Eddy: Weaver side.
@royce!: At least he got an out while giving up that one.
@Grey: Better short-schedule fill-in – Frenchy or Brett Wallace?
@royce!: Get him out of there. At least I’ll get a Hold out of it – which is what I picked him up for
@royce!:
On the same exact boat. I just dropped Kuo for Sanchez and that was my 5th move out of 7. Also regretting it.
@Grey:
Thanks.
nobody wants it in st louis,motte anyone
@Steve: In our RCL, I went from 4th to 1st right back to 4th today, and I prematurely defenestrated Colby Lewis. Thank you Eddie Sanchez!
@royce!: Better than going back and forward between 7th and, er, 7th.
@Steve: Ha! [not meant mean spirited- that was just funny].
Maybe Sanchez just thought that he should appear as much like the last STL closer… give up 2 runs, get the save. TLR should find that comfortably familiar.
Can i get some other opinions on trading away beltre and posey for russell martin and ryan zimmerman? points keeper league… leaning towards accepting the trade but worried martin’s going to fall off and beltre is going to have another monster year like he did last year.
@Steve: As a Frenchy owner, have you taken a look at his splits? I dropped him in the RCL because I thought he would only be good against lefties. 1.483 OPS v. lefties, sub-.700 v. righties this year. But then again, he went yard against a righty today, so it might be a small sample size issue.
@royce!: Splits? Any clown who has a pulse and is making contact is good enough for me right now.
@Steve: Wallace
@royce!: Ha
@Joba the Heat: I’d want Zimmerman.
Really need help on this one…
Here is my team
C- Posado
1B – M. Cabrera
2B – Phillips
3B – Reynolds/Alvarez
SS – Andrus
OF – Kemp, Tabata, Justin Upton, Kubel
Util – Fielder
I got offered, Victor Martinez, Carl Crawford and David Wright for Matt Kemp and Prince Fielder.
Should I do it?
re: barbera – ha! the key to hannahan’s swing is that his arms move and the entire rest of his body is completely still.
@Derrick: A bit risky, but I think in the end it’ll work out for you.
@Carlos Z has slurpees: Ha
Agreed. I am going to accept the offer.
@Tony: Oh, my mistake. I’m getting my leagues mixed up. With a lot of work on my plate, keeping abreast of the fake teams is tough.
Fun with stats… After coming up snakeeyes with both Liriano and Narveson, my ratios for the week are shot. Helps my opponent threw Colby and Oswalt out there…
My ERA: 7.71 His: 12.37
My WHIP: 1.41 His: 2.25
Gotta love H2H.
@Grey: You’re still OK with Travis Wood, right?
Grey & Co…
Would you hold on to Delmon Young while he’s on the DL? I only have 1 DL spot in my league and 6 bench spots. I already have Mauer on the DL, so I’ll have to waste a bench spot. Ryan Raburn is available in my league (who I know you like), would you suggest dumping Young to pick him up?
@Steve: For now…
@WDE05: I’d go to Raburn.
Also, forgot to mention Rajai Davis is available and supposedly he’s coming back off the DL tomorrow. I don’t have any elite speed guys on my team so it might make more sense to pick him up.
@Nuke LaDouche: This basically looks like Peavy last year.
He might correct the ship at some point and get correct at which point everyone should sell him. Something’s up with his arm…time to be honest with ourselves.
Looking for runs and steals….Fowler or Gardner? Is Maybin worth a look?
