Honestly, this was not the intro I thought I would be writing today, but this news is too big to ignore. For some reason that none of us at Razzball HQ can understand, the Cardinals have decided that sending Jordan Walker to AAA is the right move for the team. That move likely leaves more than a few of you, myself included, scrambling to find a new option at the hot corner. I know he wasn’t lighting the world on fire but he was playing pretty well and as a top prospect there was plenty of reason to expect his numbers to improve. Apparently, he wasn’t elevating the ball enough and that’s why Taylor Motter is a better choice for this team. The team DFA’d him (him being Motter) right before resigning him and obviously, they are so much smarter than I am. All that aside, if you drafted Walker may find yourself in need of a new third baseman. I have no insider knowledge but I sincerely hope this will be a short stay for him and we’ll get him back in the show soon. I don’t know this but I have to hope it. Bring him back. Third base is not the strongest position but it’s not completely devoid of options. So on this sad day, let’s see who can fill Walker’s shoes.

Patrick Wisdom could make for a nice Walker fill-in. His average isn’t ideal but when he does make contact he’s been smashing it, with 9 bombs on the season. That puts him really close to the league lead and there’s reason to believe the power could be real. Unfortunately, the average might also be real and could dip, but he can still put up big points. If he carries on at .250 he’s a stud, if that drops to .210 he’s a player who’s valuable in spurts but you won’t know when to start him.

Brian Anderson came out of the gates hot but has cooled a bit of late. He’s flashed his power and the lineup around him doesn’t suck so he can pile up points in a hurry. The downside is he disappears into the nothingness he came from.

Ke’Bryan Hayes was the belle of the ball not that long ago and boy has he really fallen short. He’s not a big power guy, being more of a speed man, but he has the ability to bat around .300 and that’s very good. He is by no means a world-beater but it’s not crazy to think that a guy this young can get better. His batting average should certainly rise from his current .240 and even if he doesn’t make it to .300 that can really help you. I don’t love his supporting cast but I am a big fan of what he can do at the plate. We can expect him to see regular at bats and it’s looking like he won’t be a stranger to the leadoff spot. I think that’s a good fit for his skillet if his teammates can drive him in.

Taylor Walls wants us to take notice. There’s no denying that he’s so hot right now. He’s been incredibly productive but he seems to be in a platoon. That’s really not ideal but he still has value in daily leagues or if there’s a slate of southpaws coming up. He does have multi position eligibility which is a nice bonus.

Josh Jung has flashed and I’m here for it. I think he has a sneaky good offensive supporting cast and he does bring some power to the table. I am very interested in him and what he can do the whole season.

J.D. Davis looks like a whole new player. I think the most impressive part of his season is that he looks poised on defense. That should earn him everyday playing time on a normal team but the Giants are not a normal team. He has been seeing at bat fairly regularly and I hope it continues, but *shrug* who knows what Gabe Kapler will decide to do. I really like the power display and he should be on way more rosters than he is right now.

Spencer Steer had juice to start but his past week has shown what his lows will look like. He can put up points but he can also put up a real stinker. I’m not entirely out on him but that’s more geared towards deeper leagues. He did lose a few games to injury and maybe we’re just seeing him readjust to being back on the field but the strikeouts are a wee bit worrying. There’s upside here but right now it’s just potential.
