No matter the format, prospects are going to enter into the fantasy equation at some point or another. Since covering prospects is the only reason they let me into the Razzball offices, it’s my job to help you make the most of them. This post will map out what you can expect from me this year as far as prospect coverage during the 2019 regular season. What you shouldn’t expect from me is competence, insight, sobriety, or a sense of humor. I’m glad we’ve got that out of the way.

News and Notes – Similar to the daily roundup, I’ll go over the ups and downs in the minor leagues so you can keep up on your favorite specs or learn something new about a spec you’ve never heard of.

Monthly Power Rankings – Weekly prospect power rankings get a bit repetitive, so I’ll be posting a prospect power ranking each month. The idea is you get to see who is the closest to coming up and who is most likely to make an impact in fantasy when they do.

Minor Accomplishments – A spotlight on a specific player in the minor leagues. This could be someone well known or on the fringe. The idea is they get 500-800 words just on them instead of the usual quick blurb. It’s a deep dive.

2019 MLB Draft – Coverage of all the players that are expected to be drafted and analysis of the players once they’re selected. This content is more relevant for dynasty leagues, but rumor has it more and more fantasy folks are getting involved with that format.

2019 International Signings – If you’re into the long-burn prospects of the J2 signing period, we’ll be looking at all the teenagers that get a dumptruck full of cash backed up to their door in July.

Razzball Dynasty League – I’m going to start a dynasty league for frequent commenters and writers on the side. We’ve done this once before, but I ended up leaving the site in the middle of it and I’m not sure where it got to. It’s all in good fun and dynasty drafts are epic.

Midseason Rankings – Prospect stocks will move – sometimes drastically – by midseason. I’ll rerank the Top 100 to reflect any graduations and changes in value from January to July.

    Thanks Mike,

Am looking forward to the draft/J2 coverage. Have acquired a few picks in next year’s FYPD in a couple of leagues.

World also be interested in a risers fallers article, who should I buy and who should I sell? I guess a minors version of Grey’s Buy/Sell column, although not weekly obviously.

In a 12 team H2H dynasty, 240 minors owned (plus players like Tatis, Verdugo, Stewart). I have an open minors spot. My farm is pretty stacked (Adell, Senzel, Trammell, Hoerner, Luciano, Kristian Robinson, Marsh, Adams, Jones, Brujan, Alvarez, Mountcastle, Heliot Ramos, Florial, Valera, Pache, Ruiz). Can you suggest an off the radar name that might be a quick riser this year ?

In that same league I just traded Bichette away. My Bichette and Jose Abreu for his Bauer and 1st round FYPD pick. Probably not the best deal, but I’m competing and need pitching (I tend to invest in hitters and trade for Pitchers). With Bogaerts, Tatis and a number of SS prospects I felt I could do that deal. I am half expecting to regret that deal in 2 years time. Any thoughts ? I have trouble valuing prospects versus established players (especially those in the wane).

Best wishes, and thanks for your efforts,

    Another Dan

How about Orelvis Martinez…trade looks good. Don’t look back if you’re trading specs to win now. It’s hard to win a fantasy baseball league so strike when you have the chance.

Well shit I will start leaving comments if it means I get a chance at another dynasty draft. Personally I can’t get enough prospect chatter. Thank you for all you do. Peace1love

      Random feedback for ya –
Not factoring in the rest of your roster, so doing this in a vacuum. Drop Wilson and Junis. Watched Richards pitch this week, it’s really impressive. And the upside with Laureano and Lowe is significant. I’m particularly interested in Lowe, eye opening spring and love that the Rays showed their confidence in him with the contract.

    Mike,

Looking forward to reading your posts this year! I have a MiLB draft for my dynasty league tomorrow night n have 2 of the top 5 picks. Is this still the order u would rank these 5 players:

    Franco
    Lewis
    Hiura
    Bichette
    Kirilloff

    Thanks!

  7. Rising sleeper: K’Bryan Hayes ( Pirates ).

      Nice! I’d argue he’s not a sleeper but I don’t like to argue so I won’t.

Keeper league question: I’ve already got 3 keepers i like (2 round penalty each year- acuna 6th round, Soto 21st round, and Vlad 22nd round). Someone offered me freeman (who can’t be kept) for tatis (who can be kept in the 24th next year). Should i hold out for more or take that?

Freeman will help you more this year so it depends on your window. If you aren’t really built to win it all this year I’d hold.

Do you think Pache will be up by September? I dropped Trammell for him in our keep all league but only with the hope he’s up much sooner. Also, if Royce Lewis explodes this year do you think he could get an end of the year call up?

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

Neither are on the 40 so it’s unlikely, but I’d say Pache has a better shot than Lewis.
