Special Note: Thanks to everyone who showed interest and joined! Unfortunately, this league is now full. But we are taking a list of replacement owners for any unforeseen events that cause a vacancy in the comment section, so be sure to leave your info there…

Razzball Nation!

The Baseball Razzball Elite League is here!

Oh man, I haven’t been this excited since the Brewers traded for CC Sabathia.  Has anyone thought back on the irony of CC playing for a team named about alcohol creation?  Cust kayin’!

So over on Hoops, we’ve had a ton of fun creating The Razzball Elite League, made for the deepest of deep and faintest of heart.  Or not the faintest…  Don’t you not want faint?!  Worst open ever!

I gotta say, commenters are my heroes.  Who would’ve thought someone named Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo would be the inspiration for what will easily become my favorite fantasy league?!  But last year, seeing their league listed in a comment here, got my balls rolling.  No, not dropping, OK?!  Jo Jo Jr was my flash of genius in creating the REL Baseball League, but it may be my flash of overly-obfuscating, we shall see!

I’m not going to list out the full rules, since that would REALLY be the worst post ever.  So here’s the Cliff’s [Lee] Notes – The Razzball Elite League is a team-based dynasty, where you have to ALWAYS own 15 players from your parent team’s roster.  There’s obviously 30 MLB teams, so it’s a 30-team league, however split into 15-team AL only and 15-team NL only leagues.  The two leagues are Roto, and play through the first 148 games.  Then the final two weeks, the pennant winners of the AL and NL Roto leagues play each other in a H2H World Series.  On top of your 15 player quota from your parent team you manage a full 25-man roster (with a lot of DL and a few NA spots) and manage a farm system with your parent team’s prospects.  It’s going to be a fun way to blend real-life MLB situations (monitoring trade markets, tanking, contacts, etc.) with the standard 5×5 roto fantasy system.

It’s going to be a $50/year league.  “But wait, Razzball is free, RCLs are free, why in the hell would this pompous JB create a money league on Razzball?!”  Well, frustrated commenter, in launching the REL on Hoops we got 13 or so really amazing owners (for a 20 teamer).  We’ve had to fill the remaining spots, and filling a dynasty league can be troublesome.  Especially one this complex.  So I’m weeding out the wafflers, and charging a pretty minimal yearly rate just to try and have little-to-no turnover.  And if you’re hesitant taking on a weaker team, I’m the mother F Brewers!  I gotta rebuild like they are!

As linked above, a big part of the REL experience will be our weekly recaps, where every owner is welcome to write a summary of their past week.  Your chance to be part of Razzball’s awesome content!

To join the inaugural launch of the REL, all you gotta do is comment below (first-come, first-serve) with:

  • The open team you want
  • If the e-mail associated with your commenter name is good to reach you, or include a good e-mail to reach you.

Then I will send you the full constitution and easiest ways to settle up dues with the commish!  If the rules seem too confusing, or not fair, or you wanna back out… no worries, just lemme know!  I will say,  everyone in the league thus far knows the rules, and are really excited.  There’s really not too much to it that’s outlandish, just rules to try and keep it fair and fun.

The league is on Yahoo; I know there’s pros and cons to both the major sites, but well, REL Basketball is on Yahoo so I kept it the same…

Here’s how the timeline will go down:

  • Sunday, Feb. 28 – Dues are, well, due and teams are locked in place (I’ll likely ask to collect earlier just so we don’t have to rush any new owners in to catch them up).
  • Sunday, March 6 – Keepers due.
  • Sunday, March 13 – AL draft at 1:00 PM EST, NL draft at 7:00 PM EST.  The draft is filling out your roster after keeping 17 players from your parent club (8 remaining spots in a $100 Auction so you have equal chance to everyone not kept).

I’m sure you’ll have several questions about the league, but if you’re a fan of fantasy – and especially a fan of any of the remaining teams – this league is a must-join!  And even if you have questions, still be sure and put what team you want in the comments first, as I’ll be going in the order comments are received.  And if your team is gone, we may need a replacement!  So be sure and comment if you’re interested in being a backup GM.

Here are the teams still available below (current owners are REL Hoops players, JayWrong, and well, a few friends – it pays to know me!) which I will do my best to update as people comment.
