Congratulations go out this week to the league members of Cougs R Us. We’re all Cougs R Us kids after all. I wouldn’t have guessed that it would be possible for three league members to all be inside the top 10 overall in the Master Standings, but by golly, they’ve done it! Team Frost leads the way with a 101.5. Next up is Team Bromelia, who despite being behind Fatuous Jeffreys in the league standings with 95.5 points (compared to Jeffreys 97), is ahead of them by 0.3 RCL points in the Master Standings. These strong scores along with a great LCI of 104 have placed these three Cougs kids into the top 10 overall. Impressive stuff.
Five leagues currently hold the top LCI of 104. They are, in no particular order, Cougs R Us, ECFBL, FCL, Night of the Living Zombinos and the ‘Perty Perts league. I’m impressed with the ‘Perts league index. Typically the ‘Perts league has been a total pushover, full of mostly dead teams with only a few teams fighting it out ‘til the end. It’s early yet and there’s a long season of Tehol’s stats yet to be compiled (or not compiled rather) but it will be fun to see if the ‘Perts can hold on. FCL and ECFBL are no strangers to the top LCI leaderboard. These leagues finished 1-2 last year with FCL (112) dethroning a long run of ECFBL (110) holding the title of “Most Competitive RCL”. Keep fighting the good fight everyone, keep those LCIs high. Let’s see what else what down in the RCLs in the week that was, week 12:
Each week we’ll peek in at our resident ‘perts & other industry names to see who is laying claim to best “expert” RCLer in the land. We’ll take notes, check the standings and generally stalk them. Click the heading above to check out the ‘Perts League home page and follow along.
There wasn’t a whole lot of points gained or lost in the ‘Perts League this week, but that didn’t stop our FML, Grey Albright, from dropping 3 spots in the standings, down to 8th place overall. ‘Perts League leader, Team McLeod was the biggest points loser of the week, losing 4 points and bringing their two week total to 7 points lost. Luckily for them, their closest competition right now, Big Magoo, has lost 8 points themselves. Magoo is ripe for the passing because of this loss and Prospector Ralph is hot on his heels, just two points back. The biggest point gainer of the week was Yahoo!’s Dalton Del Don, who picked up 4 points and passed both Grey and Rudy with a move into 4th place. Also jumping up two spots this week was J-FOH and JB. J-FOH moved into a tie for 6th with Rudy while JB passed them both and moved into 5th overall. Don’t look now, but JB is fogging up the mirror!

After letting Poe drive the bus last week, Cram It told him to Cram the number one spot up his cramhole and tooks back what was rightfully his. Cram only added 0.5 points in DFSers Anonymous this week, but it was enough to takeover first place. The first of our trio of Cougs R Us members, Team Frost takes over 2nd overall. Simply Fred bounced back this week, after falling to 6th last week. Last week’s leader, Poe Dameron falls to 4th place this week. T1000, You had to make it weird and Team Bromelia all hang around the top 10 for yet another week. Fatous Jeffreys rejoins the top 10 after slipping to 11th last week. Extreme Makeover Ploop Edition, a team managed by your humble RCL Update host, makes a big jump this week from 26th to 9th overall, more on that team later. Finally, Rock Ridge Express rounds out our top 10 this week. Express jumps up from 14th overall last week to debut in the top 10.

It was bound to happen, and Wednesday night it did, our first vetoed trade of the year. Of course it happened in South Side Titans. You may recall this league as the one where Cody Anderson was drafted 4th overall, Anthony Rizzo lasted until pick 19 and before the season was even underway, Mike Trout was traded for Hanley and Greinke. Yup. Don’t worry though, the very next day the deal was restructured and allowed to go through…minus Elvis Andrus. Apparently, that was just too much!
In other trading news, I like the deal for Rake and Bake, Altuve for Springer and Robertson. That seems like a nice win for them.
Vin took over a team from J-FOH and immediately put his stamp on it, trading away a slew of closers for Lindor while in turn trading for Wade Davis. Quality vs. Quantity.
Lots of closers moving hands this week. No doubt the Rosenthal demotion sent waves through leagues everywhere. I hate closers.
WEEKLY LEADERS
The best of the best from the week that was.
R – 65 – Pittsburgh Lumber Company (Night of the Living Zombinos)
HR –22 – Vinyl Ross (2016 Shades of Grey), Team Nereim (All Hail Beddict Tha God), Dizzy Dreams (American Dream), Team CubbieBluez (Effectively Hide my Thunder), I’m Going to Kyle You !! (Great Knocks), Team Codo (Mortals Vs. Beddict), Harper Bullies (Night of the Living Zombinos) & M@’s First (The Greatest)
RBIs – 64 – M@’s First (The Greatest)
AVG – .368 – Team Jackson (Rosterbators Anonymous)
SB – 13 – Jersey Moose (Dri Heat)
W – 10 – Nine Pound Hammer (ECFBL) & Calgary Cannons (Razzballero1)
K – 129 – Calgary Cannons (Razzballero1)
SV – 13 – Vincible Ross (DriHeat), Vin and Lynette (JB’s RCL), Kid A (Original Recipe 2016) & Team Paslick (Rosterbators Anonymous)
ERA (Min. 40 IP) – 1.06 – Team Rogers (RCL Lords of the Diamond) (in 51 IP)
WHIP (Min. 40 IP) – 0.82 – Team Rogers (RCL Lords of the Diamond)
No new records were set this week, however a disturbing trend has continued. After six teams were tied for the HR lead last week, 8 were tied this week!
The Calgary Cannons are back in the weekly leader roundup, leading in Ks once again (for the third time this year) and co-leading in Wins (the 5th time with a share of the lead this year). The Cannons used 30 games started this week in order to get their 10 wins. They have now provided some company to old friend, Hoboken Squat Cobblers as well as A**y’s Fish Fry at the top of the GS leaderboard. The Cobblers and the Fish Fry sit up top, each with 165 GS. The Cobblers have slowed their pace a bit of late, but the Fish Fry keeps slinging ‘em out there. The Cannons now have 162 GS and appear to not be slowing down either. Maybe this time next week we’ll have two teams over the 180 GS mark.
Nine Pound Hammer scored an even more impressive 10 wins though, only needing 11 GS to accomplish the feat. This was in large part thanks to a Sunday that saw MauledByPandas’ squad vulture 3 wins. Carlos Estevez, Huston Street and Cody Gearrin all happened to be on the hill the inning prior to their teams winning the game and snatched up Ws. What luck!
TEAM OF THE WEEK
Our weekly shout out to the team that killed it the previous week.

Summary: After losing out on TOW last week with my DFSers Anonymous squad, I’m going all Hippo hubris this week and giving myself TOW honors. This was a team that I took over from a dead owner post draft. The team (originally named, Pleep Ploop) was auto-drafted and basically a complete disaster when I took the reins. I’ve since dropped or traded every starter that was drafted except for Kershaw (9 others total), gotten rid of each of the 3 catchers that were drafted and tried (with some success) to acquire every Rockies hitter I could get my hands on. Charlie Blackmon is the lone holdout at the moment. Grey often has joked (as recently as yesterday) about drafting a team of all Rockies hitters and Padres pitchers, well, I’m working on half that and so far, it’s not so bad. Granted, it’s rough when they head out on a road trip, but the end of year stats are the end of year stats, and those hot summer nights in Coors are coming. Exactly zero closers were drafted for this team and it was dead last in saves at one point in the season. Saves have been a source of much agita. It’s been a lot of fun rebuilding a team I had nothing to do with drafting and now it’s even sitting 9th overall in the Master Standings. While it sort of feels like cheating since I didn’t draft team, I think I’ve made enough of an impact on the roster to call it my own. If you’re curious what a team of mostly Rockies bats would look like, check in with me now and then. If not, just know that on those summer nights when the Rockies hang 15 runs on some team, Extreme Makeover Ploop Edition is having a great night as well!
