After an excellent response last week, we now have 623 teams. This will be my 3rd season keeping track of things in the RCL. In 2011 there were 38 leagues; the number jumped 26% last year to 48, and I expect a similar growth this year once the March rush hits. So, of course, we need more commissioners. Thanks to Sea Pilot for opening a league last night. That draft is set for a Thursday evening. That gives us 9 new slots to fill, plus 4 more in a new keeper league which will not be eligible to be in the RCL after the 2013  season. Dave also signed up, with a Saturday morning draft, but did not provide a working link yet. It should be fixed tonight. Please head over to the RCL Registration post to see how you can become a commissioner, or just add a team to one of the leagues. (For a step-by-step guide to creating a new league, see this post in the fantasy baseball forums.)

The past 2 seasons have seen some great numbers recorded. Here are the records to shoot for in each statistical category:

Runs: 1219 (Royce! – San Diego Chippers, 2012)
HR: 342 (Lazy Sunday, 2011)
RBI: 1147 (Lazy Sunday, 2011)
SB: 249 (The Spankers, 2011)
Ave: .2974 (Team Thompson, 2012)
K: 1586 (The 86ers, 2012)
Wins: 115 (Rank Railheads, 2012 Champions)
Saves: 229 (Chicago Mark – Lajka Bejka, 2012)
ERA: 2.86 (Baltimore Oreos, 2011)
WHIP: 1.112 (Broth’s Bombers, 2011)

Each week Team of the Week honors will also be up for grabs. It will take impressive stats on both sides of the ball, though. Here’s one of the best from last year, when Schmohawks Bob (Original Recipe) took the award:

96/322 (.298) /50 R/21 HR/67 RBI/4 SB
72.2 IP/71 K/8 W/2.35/1.03/6 S

OK, that’s it for this week. Next week I’ll discuss how a slow start to your season isn’t a death knell. Last year two teams who were in 10th place at the end of April and 2 more who sat in 11th came back to win their leagues. On the flip side, only 7 teams that were in first on April 30th finished as league champions. Hmm, that’s all I got on that. Guess I need to find another topic for next week.

Oh, well, go check out the signup page and join us for the biggest and best Razzball Commenter League season ever. If you are signing on as a commissioner, include the draft time in the “notes” column when you register to attract people who want to draft at the same time. It can be changed, but 7 votes from league members are needed to switch to a new time. And current commissioners, please check in on your league occasionally in case a spot has opened up with a dropout. Thanks!

  2. Jack Full of Hate says:

can we commish more than one? i’m already in 3 RCL”s ( one as a commish, one with prezzi, and one with randoms) but for the good of the site I can do a couple more if necessary

      VinWins says:

@Jack Full of Hate: Sure, but only do it if you really want to. I’m sure as more people return in March we will find more willing to be commissioners. But, we are not restricting you to 1 league.

      • Jack Full of Hate says:

@VinWins: yeah grey gave me the heads up on that. i will monitor things in March and if necessary will jump in and do another. It’s not a big deal for me. I have no prob juggling lots of leagues and it gives me a chance to make new friends. My mom says I will never get out of the basement if I don’t make any new friends.

  3. Cole says:

I tried creating a league but i was never prompted to set a league password. I was able to get all the settings right, however. What am I missing?

    • VinWins

      VinWins says:

@Cole: These steps should take you to the password:
      [1] “Create A League”
      [2] “Create ESPN Custom”
      [3] Choose League Name
[4] Change Number of Teams from 10 to 12
[5] Change Access from Public to Private
      [6] Choose a password

      • Cole says:

@VinWins: Thanks Vin, all set up

  4. Beastman says:
