On Dancer! On Prancer! On–Oh, I didn’t hear you come in. Welcome, reader! Grab some egg nog and brandy it up to the fire. You look festive. I love that Rudolph tongue ring. That’s the great thing about Christmas, no matter what your interpretation is, it’s all about commercialism. That’s unless you light the Munenori Kawasaki. The 2018 fantasy baseball rankings are not far away. Right now, January Grey is throwing darts at a board to figure out where to rank Shohei Ohtani, the hitter vs. Shohei Ohtani, the pitcher. Exciting! In the meantime, let’s look at the players who have multiple position eligibility for this upcoming 2018 fantasy baseball season. The biggest surprise from this list is one that we’ve discussed previously. I’m going to try to stay in the holiday spirit, but Anthony Rizzo having 2nd base eligibility because they switched his glove out ten times is really effin’ stupid. So, if Mike Trout plays the outfield with a catcher’s mitt, he’s a catcher? Oh. *runs a marathon in just under nine hours* Kay. Any hoo! I did this list of multi-position eligible players because I figured it would help for your 2018 fantasy baseball drafts. I’m a giver, snitches! Happy Holidays! I only listed players that have multiple position eligibility of five games or more started outside of their primary position. Not four games at a position, not three, definitely not two. Five games started. If they played eight games somewhere but only started one, they are not listed. 5, the Road Runner of numbers. So this should cover Yahoo, ESPN, CBS, et al (not the Israeli airline). Yes, Christmas came three days early this year. Players with multiple position eligibility are listed once alphabetically under their primary position. This is the only time a year I do anything alphabetically, so I might’ve confused some letters. Is G or H first? Who knows, and, better yet, who cares! Wow, someone’s got the Grinchies, must be the spiked egg nog talking. A very special thank you to VinWins, who helped me put this list together. Anyway, here’s all the players with multiple position eligibility for the 2018 fantasy baseball season and the positions they are eligible at:

Happy holidays RazzBall crew!
How many times did Javy Baez man the hot corner in 2017? Will he have 3B status in 2018?

that super deep 30 team dynasty with now up to 40 man prospect slots and 6 draft rounds rather than 5 it’s been in all other seasons. 3 tags due in like 19 hours. start 2 MI, 2 CI, 3 OF, 1 C, 1 util, 3 SP, 3 RP, 3 P (so 6 RP and probably 6 SP is optimal). 7 BN, max 3 IR slots. roto 6×6 with holds/OPS added. budgets at 110 million now.
here’s what is already in place. .4 is min contract. all people in prospect slots are free unless called up then .4 mil. once they are called up and hit limits their contracts go for 4 years.

so i have 59.652,100 committed and 11 roster spots left before tags for an average of 4.57 million left per spot. clearly i tag sale for franchise (pay real life money) at 13 million.
what’s best 2 other options, i can either restrict 2/franchise 1 more or franchise 2/restrict 1.
1. options: segura (franchise price either 14 or 14.5), alonso (8 mil), morrow (10.5 or 11), minaya (.535). i’m thinking best idea is to franchise segura, restrict alonso and i’d have 9 slots left for 3.15 (assuming alonso gets bid up to around 8 mil, but it could be less than that)
2. since i have no closer and it’s generally hard to obtain them and they are overpriced (i got lucky in waivers on minaya late season, he wasn’t a prospect of mine) would i be better off restricting minaya over alonso or even segura?
3. i have a deal in place to deal segura for sixto sanchez, would this be a good idea, then obviously tag alonso and minaya?
i’m still catching up on posts now on page 5. and sneaky pete was good stuff.
@goodfold2: shit forgot, leury garcia is also an option.
Sneaky Pete was great… You should watch Patriot… 1. That makes sense 2. Nah 3. Don’t love it
@Grey: ok, don’t get cute, keep the better overall players. sounds right. doing justified now, never watched it when it was out, from sneaky pete avclub found out it’s based on elmore leonard. might be able to deal morrow for a late pick. also finding out it’s completely stupid (unless a TOP TOP prospect) to invest anything at all into catchers. i’ve had d’arnaud for years (previous owner must’ve wasted decent pick on him years ago) but was able to find leon and one of the ARI guys last year in FA for free, the 2 prospect catchers i have okey/o’connor will probably end up as nothing but FA waiver guys.
-came home from family thing with large ham chunk. can finally make hot ham water. actually DID just move morrow for a 5.4 pick. then noticed that he might close, which would suck for me as i’d probably get like 6th or 7th rather than 9-11th yearly if i had a closer. also should’ve asked for a 3rd IF my trade opp thought he’d close.
@goodfold2: oh crap, segura appears IF i franchise him i’d have to hold him for his real life 5 years at 14 per. while the 14 isn’t that terrible, holding ANYBODY for 5 guaranteed years sounds ridiculous. other than like m.trout or something. guessing unless i can trade him i should DEFINITELY restrict him rather than anchor myself to that.
Oh, forget that, too long…
Hot ham water sounds delicious!
@Grey: “very watery, with a smack of ham” i’ll likely restrict segura (if in fact he gets bid crazy i can take the pick(s)) franchise alonso for 8 mil per for 2 years.
@goodfold2: and good god it’s gross that i didn’t possibly waste some time and ask for more, betances (also needs to be tagged, his real life money is 3 mil this year as 1st year arb it’s last year’s money, next year would be more, but probably not much more than morrow’s 9 mil per year) just got flipped for 2 3rd rounders.
Gotcha
Haha
Hey Grey!
Will you be doing one of these for pitchers? I have a daily categories league in which strangely RPs who qualify as SPs are invaluable (K/BB is a category as is ERA, WHIP and Holds) and getting a list of all those player who have dual eligability would be huge. Love the site and ya’ll have helped me so much in my leagues. Much obliged!
I don’t do one, but someone on the site usually does…
@Grey: thanks for the feedback!
No problem
Grey –
16 team dynasty …
I’m trying to trade for Arenado.
I’m offering Ozuna, Duvall, Healy, Gohara.
Am I crazy?
Not sure if you’re crazy, but that’s a solid trade for Arenado
Would you feel comfortable trading Odor for everyone on this list in a keep forever? I need help at OF. 5×5 scoring.
Bellinger, Benintendi, Buxton, Khris Davis, Billy Hamilton, Marte, McCutchen, Polanco, JD Martinez, Ozuna, Yelich, Pham, Domingo Santana, Springer, Upton
Anyone I mentioned that you would NOT want in return?
I’d take any of them…
Have you ro do you watch Homicide Hunter?
Nah, never heard of it
@Grey: I just listened to the detective its about on a podcast and he’s great. I’ve seen the show, its more reenactments, but they are really well done. The guy had like a 90% success rate in solving homicides.
Sweet, I’ll have to check it out… Watching Godless right now, it’s solid…
@Grey: I started that one a while back. Then I discovered my PS4 again
Ah, nah, it’s solid, you’d like it…
I have two teams competing for my Arenado. Which return do you prefer? Keep forever 5×5.
A) Arenado + Berrios FOR Lindor + Donaldson
B) Arenado + Odor FOR Springer + Rendon + Price
C) Neither
Why not keep Arenado?
@Grey: Only would move him if it improves my team
Arenado’s the best guy in these trades, hard to trade away best guy
The rizzo at 2b thing is so dumb ugh. There should be common sense applied there.
He was fielding bunts!
Is it just me or was there crazy positional flex this past year? Definitely not worrying about scarcity this year in the draft, moreso than usual.
Ton of guys this year who are garbage have a ton of flexibility
Happy Hanukkah (belated) and Merry Christmas oh Greyt one.
Looking forward to the NFBC again.
Annual draft at Miller Park 3/31.
Thanks, man! Happy holidays (choose one) to you too!
You’ve commented on TV shows. A drummer friend told me about Netflix “Hired Gun” rockumentary. I watched it last night – interesting stuff.
Yeah, that was solid… I could’ve done without the music videos in the middle… you should watch Patriot…
@Grey: haha, thats what I told you to watch…isn’t Billy Joel a dick
Oh my God, he’s the biggest asshole… I lost a lot of respect for Joel…
@Grey: he’s captain jackass
Haha, exactly!
Agree on B Joel, but evidently – according to my friend in the business – the music business is littered with aholes like Joel. At all levels.
Except for the AV/tech guys.
BTW – it was interesting to hear Rudy Sarzo POV from several bands,
How about the Filter guy? He was the biggest ass…
@Grey: he was the worst. He took the you get fucked in this biz to lets make sure I fuck you the hardest. Its like bro, you had one song
I know! I never even heard of him…
Why does it make me so mad that Rizzo has 2nd base eligibility? Why!!!!!!!!
Haha, I don’t know, it actually aggravates me, like seriously.
@Grey: Its like Machado getting eligibility at SS. Feels like a cop out. Id be really pissed in a keeper or dynasty league
It’s much worse, Machado actually plays SS, this was Rizzo fielding bunts!
@Grey: let me rephrase that, the way Yahoo handles this, like most things, is horseshit
@J-FOH: this was too light. The way they handle position eligibility is fucking horseshit
I don’t think they’ve ever done this in years past with this mitt changing BS
@Grey: Maddon owns Rizzo in a dynasty league is my best guest because eveeeeeryone loves Joe Maddon and he buttered up tim curry over at yahoo
But this is was an official scorer decision to give him a position change every time he changed his mitt…
Yeah, Yahoo is BS with eligibility… But ESPN counted Rizzo’s mitt changes too…
@Grey: yeah but ESPN is 20 games
Right, so these random eligibilities aren’t as applicable…
Thanks Grey! Do you know of any guys projected to get significant saves with SP eligibility?
Not sure yet
Grey,
WIth TB going to rebuild, what can someone expect for COlome stats wise?
They’ve been rebuilding, no?
they are starting to tear the team apart. I expect Archer to go next. SO should Colome’s number go down a lot because of the Rays tearing the team apart? I dont expect 47 saves from him this season
Only reason I ask is because I have a deal in place for colome where I give up Blake Parker to get Colome. You would still make the deal?
I’d want Colome
ok im making the deal for Colome
Cool
Saves are similar to holds, bad team gives saves and holds just like a good team
Grey,
I just traded Dexter Fowler and Arodys Vizcaino for Kenley Jensen. what do you think?
Sounds fair
Grey,
Which side of this deal do you like:
Stroman($14) + Jose Ramirez ($7) for Hicks ($2)+ Merrifield ($5) + Brach ($5) + Shoemaker ($9).
AL only auction League with 8 keepers (price inflation) and $360 budget for 23 players
Jo-Ram side
Hey Grey its your favorite second-rate Hippo!
Great list this will come in handy, thanks for the write up.
Its heating up in the off season for trades and I’m really bored sitting at my desk.
Schoop, Ryan Zimmerman and Perez for Rendon, Taillon and Posey.. what do you think?
Hey, Inferior Hippo! Perez? Sal?
@Grey: Yes Sal, sorry
Schoop side
@Grey: Perfect, thanks Grey. Happy Holidays
You too, and keep your Hippo chin up!

What is fair asking price to acquire Gerritt Cole since he is getting traded to the Yankees

@Scott Kimmel: You already have 7 SP’s better than Cole. Hold
By the way what format, how many teams, how many players in your active roster?
All this needs to be posted if you want an accurate answer.
@Packers: Judging solely from the names on the roster, I’d say this is a 2-team league!
@Squat Cobbler: Looks more like a 1-team league to me.
Manuel Margot?
Margot and Britton?
Doesn’t sound like he’s being traded
Hey Grey,
Who do you think gains the most value from the multi-position eligibility?
I like :
Jose Ramirez 2B/3B/MI/CI
Alex Bregman 3B/SS/MI/CI
Ian Happ 2B/OF/MI
Scooter Gennett 2B/3B/OF/MI/CI
The roster construction capacity is wonderful there. I think all of those guys could be gotten in a single draft and give you a TON of flexibility for late draft fliers.
They all gain value…
Keep two in 12 team auction league.
Votto – $44
Bellinger $6
Shaw $6
Schoop $6
Bryant $64
$260 budget – Bellinger a definite – but Should I keep a $6 Shaw or Schoop and have the money to buy bigger?
@Big Willy: Thanks! and Happy Holidays!
You too!
Bellinger, Schoop
Happy holidays erbody!!! Quick keeper conundrum, can you give me peace of mind that trading bellinger for a high pick next year (instead of losing him for nothing) is the smart move if I’m already holding goldy altuve arenado and correa and I can only keep 4 right…RIGHT?!? Just no room for the boy and it breaks my heart
Could see him over Correa, but they’re close
Oh and happy holidays!
Thoughts on Pomeranz? Can he have another good year or keep the trend of good then bad year going?
I was offered Moustakas and Pomeranz (and a mid-draft pick) for Rendon..
Thanks Grey
@ronswanson23: Also, how many games do you see Dee Gordon getting at 2B?
None if Cano’s healthy
I’d want Rendon
@Grey: Yup thats what i thought, thanks man
No problem
Not to be a critical dick about this, but I found it to leverage this list. You are listing the players at their primary position and indicating the additional position for which they gained eligibility. I guess this is great for borderline relevant guys that suddenly qualify at multiple slots, potentially increasing their value. I would have preferred to see the list broken down by position that was exclusively made up of who was net new. For example, A Rizzo would show up under 2B not 1B. That is the compelling story here, right? I want to look at a shallow position and see what new names have entered the pool. Just my 8 cents…
Gotcha
Hi Grey,
2b Eligibility for Rizzo will disappear en ESPN Fantasy 2018 because he has only 10 games in this position or not?
I think the rule for eligibility is 20 games the last season or 10 games current season.
Thanks in advance
@jesusc97: I think you’re right 10 games gets you current season in ESPN but players lose that for the next year unless you get to 20 games then it stay for the following year. I think looking at ESPN 2018 ranks confirms this. They don’t list Rizzo with 2B eligibility and they don’t list Freddie Freeman with 3B eligibility.
@jesusc97: I had looked into this rule for ESPN last week, with Rizzo in mind. Agree with Jesus and Crime dog. Came away understanding that he wouldn’t have 2B.
@jesusc97: Yes, I believe you are correct.
Yeah, I think Rizzo is only 2B on Yahoo
@Grey:
Thanks!!
No problem
I think Rizzo with 2b eligibility is huge. Especially if he bounces back this year. Just traded for Thor at $20 gave up Cespedes at $15. I know he’s a risk but wasn’t keeping Cespedes anyway. If healthy do think Thor is a top ten pitcher? would like your thoughts. Where would you rate him this year. Thanks Grey and MERRY CHRISTMAS
@Speill: Thor is a Norse God. Literally… a God. He will be the best pitcher for a decade…if healthy.
I think he can be a top ten SP if healthy, can be a top 3 one… happy holidays!
Thank You, Grey.
I look forward to this chart and every post each day. I do quite well in my leagues both redrafts and dynasties with you and your teams input.
Someone asked not to long ago about an update for strategy for NFBC 50 player draft, like the one Razzball sponsored last year. Even though I finished 3rd and 4th in both leagues I played in, it would be a good read. Rudy did the last one I think in 2013. I know I got stuck on 33 saves for like 3 months and it cost me bad. Thanks for considering.
Merry Christmas, and I’m definitely looking forward to January Grey.
I’ll let Rudy people asking for it… if he does a new one, it won’t be until March… is my guess
Oh and happy holidays!
@Packers: January Grey is almost as nice as January Jones!
Haha
