We’re back with a fresh edition of the Razzball Pod – and shocker! – Grey starts the show by yelling at me about the intro!  Bloodfeud today!   We catch up on some of the news from the past few weeks including the unfortunate Alex Reyes injury, then spend the majority of the show previewing OF!  I nitpick through Grey’s rankings which you can follow along with here, as we hit on some values in the earlier rounds all the way down to some NL-only sleepers.  All leading up to the biggest question of all: who is ranked higher, Ben Revere or Denard Span?!  Here’s the latest edition of the Razzball Baseball Podcast:

@brian: Hah it’s coming! Halfway done, goal is to wrap it up this weekend and be ready first thing next week. Appreciate your excitement for it, hopefully I hit some good picks!

    Hey JB,
My draft will sadly be done by the time you get your ranks out. Looking for a little help on a pitcher to draft next round in a keeper league.
Looking at G. Richards, Snell, Giolito, Cotton, Bundy, De Leon, z.Davies.
Any of these guys jump out at you as breakouts?

    • Ra'zbahl Al Ghul says:

@dubjay: I say Snell or De Leon

@dubjay: @Ra’zbahl Al Ghul: Damn sorry I’m gonna miss ya! Lots of people drafting early this year it seems! Definitely Snell for me. His stuff is just so electric, he just needs a few less walks. Probably De Leon or maybe Richards second for me for pure upside

          @JB Gilpin:
Thanks . I was leaning that way. I really love your rankings. Grey is the master at the offence but for the pitching side I turn to you. If you feel like sending a sneak peek to [email protected], I promise I won’t wikileaks it.

JB, I’m in a keeper league that values slugging (doubles, triples, home runs). I’m trying to decide between Polanco and Dahl for my 3rd OF spot. I loved Polanco’s first half. I love that Dahl is in Coors and has that sweet upside (although Polanco does too).

Thanks dude! Slow clap for you!

@Sing Us a Vogelsong You’re the Pineda Man: Whewwwwww good one. I kinda think the spacious lands of Coors will have me go Dahl, plus he’s a few years younger I believe, I think I would shoot for the moon. Hah thanks man! Slow claps all around!

    Content suggestion submitted for approval:

    2016 was ‘Span or Revere.’

Make 2017 the year of ‘Who Said It: Ralph, Halph, or Alf.’

@Clint: Hahahaha I will be confused every time! Was it Halpin’ Ralph, or Rappin’ Halp, or Rappin’ Alf?! I’d listen to a rappin Alf album…

6 Player keeper 12 team 5×5, I’m keeping Arenado, Correa, Springer, Odor, Darvish. Need to pick 1 more between Moncada, Posey, Abreu. Keep Moncada for the potential?

    • JB Gilpin

@Josh: Whewwwwww that’s a toughie. Def letting Posey walk. And yeah, abreu is getting up there plus you’re keeping awesome power. F it, go bold, Moncada it!

    Trade question..

Was offered a 6th rd pick for Duffy. Probly the best i can do. Do I accept?

This is 10 team keeper, we keep 7 guys.

    Arenado
    Seager
    Marte
    JDMart or Braun

    Kershaw
    Strausburg
    Salazar

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@primetime: So basically a 13th round pick after keepers are set? I mean, you def aren’t keeping him, so might as well… I don’t see how Duffy as a keeper suddenly puts that opponent way over the top or anything…

      • primetime says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Yes unless I keep Duffy over Salazar.

        • JB Gilpin

@primetime: Gotcha, and yeah I’d much rather keep Salazar, so might as well take that deal

    Hey JB,
Which of these end of the draft flyers do you like best? Top 3 would be great.
    J.MUSGROVE
    D.BUNDY
    J.DE LEON
    L.GIOLITO
    M.FOLTYNEWICZ
    R.GSELLMAN
    A.TRIGGS
    L.WEAVER
    D.NORRIS
    Z.DAVIES
    J.HELLICKSON
    J.HAMMEL
Any J.Ross type sleeper that i may not have thought about?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@JJ: I’ll probably have Bundy, Davies, thennnnnm Hammel maybe? ranked highest. Def feel good about those top 2. Really like Snell, but he might be above this list in most ADPs… Ivan Nova is someone I’ll be ranking high, definitely love my Paxton again, I think he was breaking out last year just had some unlucky factors

JB, quick trade question for a H2H points keeper league. I would trade Kershaw (1st round keeper) Bregman (12th) and my 3rd round pick for Arenado (3rd) Syndergaard (11th) and his 20th round pick. I hate to trade Kershaw, but I would be getting Noah with a sweet keeper value, plus have Bum as 5th, Cole as a 9th and Urias as a 12th for other keeper SP. I would be improving my hitting a ton, what are your thoughts?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ryan741: Man, yeah Arenado in the 3rd… I think I do it, but it’s really close, having Kershaw in Pts is so unfair. If he didn’t have the back issue injury risk, I still might not do it, but I like it now

      • Ryan741 says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin biggest issue I’m having with the trade is that I’ll only have my 2nd round pick in the first 5 rounds of the draft. Kershaw is my 1st, Price my 4th and Bum is my 5th. I like the deal other than that part

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Ryan741: This would open up the first round pick for you though right, by dealing Kershaw away?

          • Ryan741 says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin no, not anymore. We announced our keepers at our winter meetings a few days ago, so I’m keeping Price, Bum, Bregman and Urias and would be drafting Kershaw 1st overall. This offer came up after our keepers were announced.

          • Ryan741 says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin it wouldn’t have mattered anyway since a guy can only be traded once in the offseason and get his draft pick value back. For example, I traded Bryce (6th) for Bum (5th) earlier this offseason and got my 6th round back, but if I traded Bum again I wouldn’t get my 5th round back by moving him. The other guy had already traded for Nolan and Noah earlier.

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Ryan741: Oh OK I gotcha. Interesting rules, tbh I don’t play in any round-as-keeper-cost leagues, only auction $ keepers or just blanket “5 keepers, no penalty”

              • Ryan741 says:
                (link)

@JB Gilpin it was a compromise for the people who didn’t entirely want a keeper league that you would lose a round of value every year you kept a guy, so once they get into the earlier rounds it becomes a question of better player/worse draft pick or better value. So it’s kinda a semi dynasty league in that aspect instead of just a straight keeper league.

@Ryan741: Yeah makes sense, not against it, but interesting wrinkle with the trade rules
