Something I didn’t mention the other day in my Luis Robert fantasy when I was going on about how Luis Robert was my number one fantasy baseball prospect for 2020 is how close Jo Adell was to him. I don’t remember two prospects being as close any other year. Sure, last year Vlad Jr. and Eloy were 1A and 1B, but I felt like 1A was way over 1B even though 1B ended up above 1A at the end of the year. I’m talking perspective more than reality, and hindsight is 20/20, but that doesn’t apply simply because we’re talking about 2020. I’ve just confused myself, tee bee aitch. Maybe Adell can squeeze out Lou Bob this year like Eloy squeezed out Vlad Jr. last year, but my money’s on Robert, though my money is currently tied up in Beanie Babies. Anyway, what can we expect from Jo Adell for 2020 fantasy baseball?

Jo Adell is a Rorschach test for fantasy baseball prospects. I can look at him and see a number one hitter — 40 homers, 15 steals and a .290 average. I can also look at him and see a 33% strikeout rate, speed that he doesn’t use for steals and the miserable to hit in Los Angeles But Not Los Angeles Angels Stadium. Of course, none of this means Adell can’t be great, superb, glowing adjective long-term, I’m talking about 2020. Okay, let’s do one of my patented GIFs that I just steal from someone else’s source.

By the by, gotta love that title. “Jo Adell Homers” is almost as poetic as “Donna Martin Graduates” or “Grandma Poops Herself.” Blessed is us whose title spawn such fruit. *sign of the cross* Any hoo! I pulled this clip, because all his other clips I saw were of him striking out. Plus, I have a deal with Forefront Dermatology. “Sorry, about your bacne, maybe we can refer you elsewhere.” I also grabbed a home run clip because I was watching tape of him (I sound so scouty) and I wasn’t sure if he had the bazingas to go mondo loco into center. He does though. Obviously. I also wondered about him going oppo taco and not just on Taco Tuesday, but I found a clip of that too, just didn’t share it because I didn’t feel like making another GIF (it takes, like, 90 seconds and who has that sorta time). His stats last year in Triple-A:  22/0/8/1/.264 in 27 games with a 32.6% strikeout rate and a 7.6% walk rate, which is beautiful if you have an eye problem and can’t recognize beautiful from not beautiful. Of course, 27 rando games in Triple-A don’t make him a bust. He was fine in Double-A last year — 28/8/23/.308/6 in 43 games — and I think he can be fine in the majors too. As previously mentioned in the opening salvo, I do think Robert is more enticing for 2020 and Adell looks more like a 30/15/.280 guy vs. Robert’s potential 30/30/.250, but that’s splitting hairs and I use conditioner so no split ends, and that’s me laying down the natch! As for Adell’s arrival in the chalky white environs of Anaheim? Anywhere from April until June. It might come down to how much new manager Joe Maddon wants him there or how wonky Adell looks in the spring with Ks. Realistically, I’m guessing June 1st, but it could be mid-April. For 2020, I’ll give Adell the statline of 45/14/52/.257/7 in 387 ABs, which I imagine is going to be less idealistic as some.

I can see Adell contributing in ’20 and possibly getting on a hot streak or two. If he does Maddon may give him some rope (PT)

WS note: say adios to Sexy being available past 1st six picks. Soto had already broken out, but that oppo tata off Cole was epic – can still see that beautiful inside-out swing – with authority!!! While Acuna, Yelich, Trout, Lindor and Betts all run than the kid in Washington, he is rock solid and might go earlier

It will tough to pass on guys like Story, Bregs, TreaT, and Belly for me (not to mention Arenado/Freeman) and some will take SP’s early – Cole, Sherz, Verly and deGrom….
’20 drafts will be like Christmas brother-man, love hangin with ya

I might pick him in a DC after round 30 but probably not before. Canning might be the only Angel I draft in 2020.

Wait. Wait! Wait!!!!

No chance for more???? This may be the second time you’ve ever done this. You didn’t give Gavin Lux a chance for more and now Joe Adell???? What’s gotten into you!!!??? Gavin and Joe are hurt!

Is anyone else paranoid that MLB is going to switch the balls and all of a sudden there will be no homer runs being hit and these Luis Roberts and Jo Adells are going to suck major balls…just me? Ok wanted to check.

I know it’s wayyyy too early to make final decisions on rosters, but I was hoping for some early guidance. H2H 11 team points league. We get to keep 5 hitters and two minor leaguers.

For your consideration:
JD Martinez
Keston Hiura
Matt Chapman
Juan Soto
Willie Calhoun
Trey Mancini (duh)
Adalberto Mondesi
Jo Adell
Alex Kirilloff
Vidal Brujan
Andrew Vaughn

I am in rebuild mode, although I finished third last year. Looking to establish a roster of #elite players even if they are a bit young.

I’m thinking – Just Dong, Mancini, Hiura, Mondesi, Adell, Kirillof, and Vaughn, but which 5 would you take?

I forgot to add Soto as a player I’m planning to keep. Whoops.

Got it. JD seems like he’s aging. Would you consider trading him for a draft pick to keep a player like Vaughn instead?

No, no, no. I forgot to add him into the list of players I AM planning to keep.

Which five would you keep?

In a 12 team H2H keeper league would you move Snell 4 K.Bryant?
Why doesn’t Soroka get much value? Is he not that good in fantasy? Should he be a top 15 sp heading into next year?

Angels Hype!!! Akin to Knoche, I think in AAA this year he has a lesser-degree growth curve like Huira, and acclimates to the pitching this go around.

I’m encouraged by the fact that Joe Maddon has not been one to shy away from “letting the kids play” after ASSmus proved to be of the Dusty Baker mold, forcing the kids to earn their stripes carrying around jockstraps for like 4 years. “Are you 28 yet son? okay… maybe I’ll let you pinch-hit now”

So hopefully he asks for Adell to be called up early, front office gives him the Phil Jackson treatment, and does whatever he says.

I just hope they get arbitration worked out with La Stella, and Maddon finds a way to send him to the minors.

Yeah you are likely right. I could see him being pretty streaky this year.

Like Adell a lot. Sure the K rate is up there, but the 2nd go around at AA was much improved 22% K 10% BB. I think he takes that step at AAA as well before trying to find his footing in the majors. Think he can be elite in 2021 if trends stay true. Power is real, and BABIP in minors has consistently been above .300 so I think the hard hit rate will translate and help with BA as well.

More concerning for me is injuries. Missed time his senior year of high school and in 2 of 3 professional seasons. Has some Tulo in him.
