Damn……It’s the end. The last day. Just one more game, and it’s all over. Seemed like only yesterday you came into all our lives. You had so much hype, so much promise, and you met that hype, you fulfilled that promise. We won together. A lot! We had some great wins didn’t we? Now you’re gone. I wonder what I’m going to do without you. What am I going to do? As soon as Monday hits I’m going to feel it. My food won’t taste as good. Nothing will be as good. You are pretty special. Shhhhh don’t tell the others but you’re my favorite. I see your TV commercials all the time now. Got to say you’re pretty cool. Who would’ve thought a Red Sox fan would say this….but…(gulp)
DraftKings you’re the best! Daily fantasy somehow made the last two months of baseball bearable. Seriously. Even when it felt like the Red Sox were in the middle of a 162 game losing streak. Even when there were 1,063 Tommy John surgeries. Even when I had to listen to Derek Jeter retirement hoopla for 6 months. Hahahaha! I bet you thought I was eulogizing “The Captain’s” career. Ah! I am a tricky one! You need to watch me. Never know what this guy is going to do! Yeah it was straight Corballius Bennett. So what! Seemed appropriate. In truth I watched his last game at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night and it seemed wrong that he should have to end his career at Fenway. Then again the Yankees probably thought they’d be in the playoffs…Sad Trombone.

Derek Jeter, SS: $4,000 – It’s his last game, why not? The man has had an illustrious career, and he’s always had a flare for the dramatic. Would it really be that shocking if he did something big in his last few at bats? I wouldn’t bet against it that’s all I’m saying. Re2pect
Mike Fiers, SP: $10,900 – The price is high but there’s a good reason for that. Fiers has a 1.82 ERA and a K/9 of 8.17 at home. He faces the Cubs and their 22.1% K% today. This has all the ingredients of a double digit K day for Fiers. In my humble opinion he’s the best buy on the board today.
Alex Wood, SP: $9,600 – My greatest regret this season….dropping Wood when he got sent down to the minors. It was a dynasty league too! Ouch! Well, only another reason to love daily fantasy. I never have to worry about those bad decisions coming back to haunt me day after day, season after season. Wood has been spectacular since he resurfaced in late June. Take a look at the numbers since his return to the Braves rotation. In 17 starts Wood has a 2.47 ERA and 8.8 K/9. Add this to today’s matchup against the hapless Phillies and you have a nice little setup for a 20+ point day from Wood.
Yasmani Grandal, C: $3,500 – In his last 9 games, he’s scored below 7 points once and even put up a 34 point game on Thursday. He’s got power and he’s been playing a lot of first base. And as every good fantasy player knows, there is nothing better than your fantasy catcher doing as little actual catching as possible. I don’t know who’s pitching for San Fran but that only makes me like this play more.
Rusney Castillo, OF: $3,400 – Great price for one of the hotter bats in baseball the last week. Castillo has power and speed, and I love that combo more than anything on DraftKings due to the scoring. Plus he’s got something to play for. Though after the last couple of nights I think he’s got the starting centerfield job locked up for next year. Either way great price, great play.
Ender Inciarte, OF: $3,800 – If you go back thru my DraftKings posts over the course of the season you’ll see I mention Inciarte quite a bit. I felt he was an undervalued player on DraftKings as his price tag was usually in the $2,700 + range. Upon the trade of Gerardo Parra to the Brewers, Inciarte was placed into the leadoff spot of the Diamondbacks lineup and never looked back. He had his highs, and his lows, he took some lumps, and then got scorching hot the last few weeks of the season. He’s now in the midst of a 15 game hitting streak. Can he make it 16 today? Hell, he gets six months to rest up and try for 17!

Doing Lines In Vegas
I have to be honest, I haven’t kept track of how my picks have gone all season. You’d have to tell me whether they’ve been good or been bad. Today has to be one of the toughest days of the year to bet baseball. Who knows who’ll be in the lineup for most of these teams. To make it worse there are only four teams playing for anything today, as The Royals and the The Tigers are separated by only a game as they battle for the Al Central. The Royals face the White Sox on the South Side and The Tigers have a home matchup against The Twins. In the senior circuit The Pirates and Cards are only seperated by a game for the NL Central title. The Pirates take on the Reds and Johnny Cueto and The Cards take on the D-Backs in Arizona.
Here’s how I see things playing out
Minnesota @ Detroit – 7.5 – I’ll take the Tigers and the over.
Kansas City @ Chicago White Sox – 7.5 – I’ll take the Royals and the under.
Detroit wins the AL Central
Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati – 6.5 – I’ll take the Reds and the over.
Cardinals @ Diamondbacks – 7.5 – I’ll take the Cardinals and the under
St. Louis wins NL Central.
