We are extremely grateful for all the kind words, inspirations, and contributions that Razzball Nation has given us over the years as we built up our fantasy baseball tools for both Roto (Streamonator, Hittertron, Weekly Hitter and Pitcher planners) and Daily Fantasy Sports (DFSBot) players.

After much deliberation, we decided to move all our daily tools (Streamonator, Hittertron, DFSBot) to a subscription model. Don’t worry – the rest of the site is staying free. This just allows us to make a little money on these tools (we’ve lost money to date if you take development costs into account) and continue to invest in enhancements. We are aiming to have most of the enhancements available on Opening Day and all by May 1st – see below for what we have on tap:

  • Ability to customize the Streamonator and Hittertron $ values based on your league settings
  • Additional stats will be added to Hittertron (SLG, OPS, TB)
  • Our good friends BaseballPress.com are going to provide us with today’s lineups soon after they are posted. We plan on updating Streamonator, Hittertron, and DFSBot throughout the day to reflect those changes.
  • DFSBot will include up to 5 DFS services (only had two in 2014).
  • DFSBot will project both standard $/pt as well as ‘upside’ $/pt – providing an estimated value on hitters/pitchers should they have about an 85th percentile game (vs the normal 50th percentile). This is HUGE for GPP tournaments!
  • DFSBot will have both ‘Today’ and ‘Tomorrow’ projections. It will update whenever the ‘tomorrow’ salary data is available for each DFS site.

As an added bonus, we are going to update the Season to Date and Rest of Season Player Raters to allow you to adjust for your league settings. This will only be available to subscribers. (We wanted to have this in place for 2015 preseason, but s**t happens sometimes.  Those asterisks say, “Hi.”)

We are offering two subscription packages:

  • Roto Deluxe ($19.99/yr, $4.99/month, $0.50/day per page) – This includes Streamonator, Hittertron, and the Weekly Hitter/Pitcher planners. We know many of you are playing in free or low-stakes leagues and we have purposefully kept this price point as low as possible.
  • DFS Premium ($49.99/yr, $9.99/month, $1.00/day per page) – This includes everything in Roto Deluxe as well as the DFSBot. See below for links with more details on each tool.

Final note: Before you count your pennies, please note we have partnered with several DFS sites including our sponsor DraftKings to offer free subscriptions to any new users who make minimum deposits (please see the subscriptions page on the necessary deposit requirements).

@eli_person: Should ask Rudy but I think if you deposit money into account it goes towards the subscription

      • elipitt says:
        (link)

@Grey: No worries. I haven’t opened a Fantasy Feud account. Besides, my biggest single day profit was $1 into $100. DFSbot suggested I use ALL the Orioles against Joe Saunders. DFSbot was right. I’d pay for more of that!

    • Whirlaway says:
      (link)

@eli_person: Just curious…What type of contests were you playing? I got into dfs for nba this season but only played 50/50s. Looking forward to trying baseball

      • elipitt says:
        (link)

@Whirlaway: I like the single entry tournaments, like the daily dollar on DraftKings. The multi-entry games have bigger prizes, but it’s frustrating to go up against guys with hundreds of entries.

The best tips for baseball I think is pay up for safe strike out pitchers, look for HR and stack, stack, stack. You’re much more likely to hit on several team mates doing well than individuals from separate teams.

Speaking of NBA, I haven’t watched since Jordan played, but I tried NBA DFS this year to kill time. I’m into it. I think I am doing well in NBA because I don’t know it and trust the experts/projections. A lot of times in baseball I outsmart myself because I think I know it better than the pros (I don’t).

Baseball is a completely different beast in that you huge quick scoring changes you don’t have in NBA. It’s a lot less.. predictable isn’t the right word… linear, maybe? Baseball is nice because lineup are out hours before game time. NBA had me me freaking out at first with all the last minute line up changes, but once I got back into following it, it got a lot more fun. I win 50/50s and triple ups a lot more in basketball.

    1. Willing to pay a few bucks for these services, they were great last year and a big part of helping me win my league.
    2. For subscribers, will there be a Razzball ios app in the near future? I’d pay extra for that ;-)
    3. For subscribers, will there be a way to have the weekly streamonater and hittertron be ready to rock on Sunday afternoon as opposed to Monday am? With weekly lineup decisions needed by late am Monday morning, I was pinched a bit last year sometimes, while waiting/hoping for both to be updated for the week ahead.

    • Fastpitch says:
      (link)

@titan: Agree with the weekly son. I had to get up at 4a.m. to set my weekly lineup before work. A Sunday afternoon forecast would be great.

      • The weekly SON updates on Fridays – use the ‘next week’ version

          @Rudy Gamble:

I did use that link. I found the “next week” link to not have the correct pitchers/starts until Monday am most weeks.

          • I get a daily feed with next 7 days’ scheduled SPs. I’ve found it to be very good. I do have to take educated guesses for the remaining 3 days. I’d consider this as good as you’re going to be able to get in terms of probable pitchers for weekly.

I signed up to DraftKings last year through Razzball and I’m hooked. My stats say I’ve played about 3000 contests since then. (That’s way more than I would’ve guessed!)

If not, it’s cool, I don’t have a Fantasy Feud account yet, I will sign up there and burn through that $20 in about.. 10 minutes :)

Good luck with the new setup!

Would appreciate it a lot if you can give me your thoughts on my team recently drafted.

    H2h, 12 teams
R, RBI, HR, SB, TB, AVG, OB
W, QS, ERA, WHIP, SV, K

    C – Lucroy (9)
    1B – Rizzo (2, k)

    3B – Arenado (3, k)
    SS – Rollins (16)
    OF – Stanton (1,k)
    OF – Brantley (4)
    OF – Jay Bruce (6)
    UTL – Rusney Castillo (16)
    BN – Belt (18)
    SP – Samardzija (7)
    SP – Lynn (10)
    RP – Chapman (8)
    RP – Street (16)
    P – Wacha (10)
    P – Archer (11)
    P – Derek Holland (15)
    P – Bauer (17)
    P – Shane Greene (19)
    P – Wei-Yin Chen (20)
    P – Carlos Martinez (21)

I traded draft picks last year, and didn’t have rd. 5, rd. 12, 13, 14.

    What your thoughts?
I think I’m a little light on runs and SB.
Pitching, I waited more than usual but found the Shark Rd 7 Chapman in rd 8, and had to take him. Counting on health for Lynn and Wacha.

Waiver wire: Laroche, Rios, Eaton, Cain.
P- Feliz, Doolittle, Reed, Roark, Giles.

Would you make any moves? Look for something specifically (SB, avg, etc.)

    thanks,

I’m sure I can find information on how daily FBB is played but was wondering if Razzball plans on writing a post on the in and outs of playing? I don’t want it to turn into a gambling habit for me, buttttt I think i would enjoy the strategy and competitiveness of playing. I know there is salary cap rules for some. I don’t get the payouts, my cost, lineup structures ect. Like how or who do you pay, is it through paypal ect. Just a beginners post would be helpful. I’ll most likely pay the $40 subscription so I can learn thru the comments. Thank you.

    • We have a daily draftkings post that I link to from the Draftkings DFSBot page. The logistics of DFS is very easy if you have played fantasy baseball. The strategy takes time – kind of like poker. I think the upside $ makes playing in big contests a little bit easier.

    • @Worlds First Analrapist: Looks pretty good. Rosario won’t play enough to warrant weekly league. I’d find an everyday catcher. I’d cut bait on Wright unless he’s producing in April. The SPs look pretty good but why no closers?

@Rudy Gamble: thanks guys…my partner is a huge mets fan, so he forced my hand with Murphy ($6) and Wright ($12), hopefully they produce…the closers were all going for $10+ and I have had success picking up my saves on the WW in years past, so I decided to gamble a bit.

One of the real issues you face is that word of mouth has to be lower for a site like this than many others. I’ve told a handful of friends about the site over the past 5 years, but nobody in my primary $ league. If your most loyal readers are keeping this site to themselves, that’s the type of readership it makes sense to try and monetize.

@Fastpitch: he’s clearly just ribbing you on your funny sounding sentence in a different context, he’s not trolling, like those guys that follow Ante around from time to time.

    • @Fastpitch: Once we have the ‘custom’ capabilities, you can easily remove WHIP and just have the categories in your league. Until then, I wouldn’t worry about it since WHIP correlates well with all the other categories – so it’s unlikely WHIP drives too much of the $ for daily pitchers.

      • The Harrow says:

@Rudy Gamble: i always thought whip correlated best of all pitcher stats for future use. Even more than K/BB (but clearly those 2 are intertwined), as a good whip also is the likely effect of producing weak contact in addition to the obvious keeping guys off the bases by not walking them and/or K’ing them.

@Baezaworldseries: this is curious, but i’ve seen this “inevitable” and “unsustainability” of being free. Some have mentioned this for years now. why? the printing press was likely free too at one point. Just because things did happen isn’t proof they or similar things had to have happened. Clearly these things have value to many and can make money, but since they are owned (unless the worry is that other places will soon have these things, and want to make sure the value gets crowbarred out before that happens) they could be kept free indefinitely. Maybe there is a worry about other sites making their own SON’s an Hitter T’s.

Oh, and I kind of ignored your advise on an H2H auction about not getting so many closers, but they were so cheap! What do you think of this team (know I’ll lose steals every week)

    C: Gattis
    Middle: Hanley, Lawrie, Jose Ramirez

I plan on purchasing because streamonator and hittertron are worth their weight in gold. But I do have a question.

For the customizable player rater, will we be able to choose specific categories or will there be a few additional “set” scoring systems to choose as options. My two main leagues are 7×7 and 8×8 and this would be a huge feature for me. There have been many times I have seen “customizable” and it turns out to mean that they just included a few extra set scoring systems beyond the standard 5×5. Thanks.

    • @Joe: Thanks and yes that’s the plan for the custom player rater. Just curious, what are your 7×7 and 8×8 stats.

      • Joe says:
        (link)

@Rudy Gamble: @Rudy Gamble: 7×7 is standard + OBP, Slug, Holds, QS

8×8 is standard + OBP, Slug, TB, QS, and K/9. We’ve evolved from 5×5 to the current 8×8 over the prior 5 or 6 years.

The goal was to make non-power hitters more valuable with TB and OBP. But i don’t think that goal was ever accomplished and I’ve argued to remove TB and Slug. The K/9 and holds was to attempt to make elite non-closers more valuable in the context of other pitchers. While it did that, it also made the elite closers and starters that much more elite due to the k/9 numbers. Where I struggle is how to evaluate elite closers like Chapman and Kimbrel who are completely dominant in k/9 category, but still only contribute to roughly 60% of pitching categories, 5 out of 8 vs. 3 out of 5.

        • Joe says:

Grey, Rudy, (anyone with auction FA bidding experience)
What would you bid in a 12 team auction post draft on Yellich & Mesoraco? $200 (DBL THE NORM) FA budget. Dbl the players auction value say $28 for Yellich and $15 for Meso? I really need a 5th OF and Catcher. Replacing Chirnos & Baez/Avisail (haven’t decided which one yet) Thx in advance. .. and $50 per year is well worth it considering most of us long-time readers have taken advantage of this sites excellent content for free since its inception. @the swinging: so let me get this one right, had people paid more money in the first place, they simply would’ve decided to not add more to what they had? Rather than, got very little, for a very long time, and then added money element. Do you deal with or come across or even read about people during the living of your life? Money is as money does, the more one gets the more one needs and/or wants (want to quote that henry miller line here); excepting those very rare cases like Buddha giving away all his possessions this simply isn’t how it works. And the people who actually do that, are considered freaks in their own societies (and it simply doesn’t matter what era or society we are talking of). When people get rich they don’t suddenly get more frugal, they find more stuff to buy or invest in to further their wealth. They worry more about “property value” and “market share”. According to your hypothesis had these guys got more money earlier, they would’ve been content getting less now? Okie dokey.

Just had one of my two big drafts of the season. It is a straight keeper (keepers come off the board right away). Categories are standard plus OBP, Slug, QS, and Holds. Plus we have a minor league system as well (under 600 ab or 200 ip results in a player being minors eligible).

I was waiting on Pitching because Kershaw and Kluber anchor my staff and in one round I missed on my three big targets that I wanted, Arrieta, Carrasco, and Richards. Made the best I could with pitching after that. I also think my average could be in trouble, but I usually don’t draft for average. Do I have enough Power as I don’t expect any player on my roster to hit 30 HR, but I have many that will probably hit 20+? I should have plenty of speed. Would appreciate your thoughts on my team.

I figured I could count on 120 steals between Gomez, Puig, Polanco, Desmond, Dozier, and Springer plus another 20 to 25 or so from the other 5 starters. Maybe i’m overvaluing the speed coming from the multi-cat contributors and undervaluing their power.

Gr8 stuff, for sure looking to support Razzball.com in any way possible.

Have a question from my seasonal, H2H redraft points league. Roster 21 – 9 bats, 5 SP, 2 RP, 5 any bench. Lineup is as follows.

YGomes, Abreu, Rendon, CDavis, DSantana, JUpton, AJones, CarGo (Rox), Goldschmidt
    Bench Encarnacion
SP Cole, ‘Kuma, Fiers, Ross, Shoemaker, Paxton, Salazar, YVentura, ASanchez
    RP Robertson, Allen

    A. Wanted to bolster pitching by trading one of Goldschmidt, Abreu or Encarnacion for a front-liner SP. Which of these would you use and which group of four or five SP would you target? the league is super shallow and all primo SPs went within the first four rounds.

I’ve been using and abusing Razzball for a few years now. I will happily pony up a Jackson for you guys. I’d pony up more, but don’t play in any DFS stuff, so I don’t need it.

And as long as Grey continues answering questions for us like he owes us something, then I’m good, too.

    Keep it up guys.

Subscription bought! Thanks, Grey, Rudy, and others, for making fantasy domination easier for us braindead slobs.

I had an auction for a 12-team 6×6 (OPS, QS) keeper league last night. A couple guys were going full stars and scrubs, driving up the price of 1st-round power, so that I and half the league ended up with money on the table afterwards. Anyway, I was drafting hitters with Rudy’s Steamer OPS rankings, and pitchers with Grey’s, and it turned out a little something like this:

    Team: Domo Arenado Mr Roboto
    C: [waiver wire]
    1B C. Davis ($18)
    2B Rendon (28)
    SS Dannys Antana (9)
    3B Arenado (8 – keeper)
    MI Walker (9)
    CI Panda (15)
    OFs Dickerson (25) ; Brantley (11 – keeper) ; Heyward (17) ; Bruce (13)
    Util G. Polanco (4)
    Bench Werth (4) ; Pearce (4) ; Khris Davis (2) ; Pompey (2) ; Souza (2)
    SPs Price (23) ; Samardjiza (14) ; Carrasco (11) ; Liriano (6) ; Shoemaker (4) ; Salazar (4) ; Paxton (2) ; Taijuan (2)
    RPs Storen (9) ; Perkins (7) ; Mejia (2)

I know, too many bench bats. Since we have deep benches, the waiver wire can be pretty dire for upside, plus we have weekly lineups, which limits how many pitchers we can really use. Will drop Pompey for a catcher, since I think I’m not horrible for speed, though it looks like my week link if Heyward or Rendon stop running for some reason.
I was really worried about power during the draft, since I was piling up a bunch of high-average guys at the beginning, but War Room thinks I’m OK.

Thanks again, and keep on keeping on

Thanks! Your team looks solid, nice keepers help there… Obviously don’t love that many bench bats… Your pitching looks great, very solid

I have a draft question for you:

8 Team H2H – H, R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBPS, W, QS, SV, KS, KS/9, ERA, WHIP

Keepers: Jones, Rizzo, Miggy, Springer, Scherzer

I’m drafting 8th (and 9th), because I let you log in to my teams, adjust my roster, and win my league for me. These are the guys that are currently available, who would you target:

Arenado (would assume he’ll be gone)
Dickerson (would assume he’ll be gone)
    Braun
    A-Gone
    Pujols
    Ortiz
    Fielder
    Kemp
    Longoria
    Frazier
    Hamilton, of the Billy variety
    Votto
    Yo-anus
    Betts
    Kluber
    Sale
    Price
    Lester
    Cueto
    Hamels

I’d obviously love the Rockies, but I doubt I’ll be able to snag either of them. We do have an IF slot, so even with Rizzo and Miggy, I could play one of those 1Bs/3Bs every day.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Arenado, Dickerson, Longo, Frazier

      • Wilsonian says:
        (link)

@Grey: thanks. The Rox are first on my list, but if they’re gone, I’ll look the Longo/Frazier way. What about Billy Hamilton? I love the speed, and he could basically win me steals every week.

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Yeah, I thought of him too… Be nice to lock down 3B though

          • Wilsonian says:
            (link)

@Grey: well, techincally, Miggy still has 3B eligibility in Yahoo. So I’d have H to tha Rizzo and Miggy at 1B and 3B. Then one of those guys at IF. I have two picks back to back, so I could possibly get one of the 3Bs and Billy the Jet.

I’m just here to thank you dudes and humble brag about my draft yesterday. I feel conflicted about not sharing the Razzball word; I want you to succeed, but also want to win. Ten team h2h. I’m a little scared at the impending league parity when I lose McCutch and Trout as keepers.
C- will grab off the waiver now that Sano went to my NA slot.
    1B- Abreu (k)
    2B- Wong (k)
    SS- Santana
    3B- Arenado
OF- McCutch (k), Trout (k), Joey Bats (k)
    Util- Frazier (k), Dickerson
BN- Soler, Wil Myers, Yasmani Tomas, Joc Pederson
SP- Kluber (k), Arrieta, Carrasco, Hisashi Mi Dashi, Wood, Latos, Shoemaker, Fiers
    RP- Street, Cishek, Rondon

I usually don’t like an offensive bench that deep, but I kept seeing names I loved so I couldn’t help myself.

Thanks dudes. Can’t wait for my next draft.

Good for you Rudy and Grey. We all love the site. Hopefully you’ll be well rewarded.

On a personal note, my Saturday NFBC main event line up is set. I’m drafting out of the coveted 12 slot. Luckily the competition is novice level. Just have to contend with grandmaster/pig farmer Lindy Hinkelman, Main Event champ and 100k winner from 2013 Dan Semsel, Todd Zola drafting out of the 1 slot, super NFBC vet and really good player Jon Stadtmuller and about 3 other familiar NFBC names. Walk in the park.

I can definitely beat these guys though. I had a similarly stacked league last year and finished 13 over all in the 12s. God help me I am an uber dork, but I am really looking forward to playing against these guys.

So let’s see…if I go for the daily option… 6 months to the season, that’s an average of 4.33 Sundays and Mondays per month…multiply by $.50… carry the 4… a^2 + b^2 = c^2… if P implies Q and P is true… ooh, almost forgot pi… where’s my damn calculator?!?!

    F it… here’s my 20 bucks.

    Hey Grey, keeper help.

    5×5 standard, h2h, auction (280 budget), 3 of, no ci/mi, 2 util

Can keep up to 8, can keep less. Only allowed MAX 3 players <$5 value. So far I have:

<$5 (the three below are $1)
    Wong
    Springer
    Arrieta
Other options but probably going to do the above 3 unless you think I am crazy: K. Calhoun ($1), Pineda ($1)

Other 5: As you can see there are 6 below, need to leave one off
    Rizzo ($13)
    B. Hamilton ($7)
    C. Hamels ($9)
    S. Strasburg ($22)
    R. Braun ($28)
    H. Ramirez ($29)

Due to value, Rizzo, Hamilton, and Hamels are no brainers, right? That leaves 2 of the 3 of braun, Hanley, and Strasburg. I feel like Strasburg offers good value while the others are debatable. Their value would be inflated if not kept due to scarcity, right? So maybe keep Braun and take a risk with a less, more upside SS?

    Grey/Rudy

Well..Its time for my yearly questions regarding my lame shallow 10 team league. Despite it being such a shallow league, it’s been around for 10 years now and the competition is intense and very personal. There is also a good amount of money on the line as well.

Here are the specs: 10 team 5X5 h2h yahoo, only 9 hitters and 22 overall roster spots plus one DL. We have a real 100 dollar budget for moves ($1 pre allstar break, $3 after allstar break, $5 in playoffs). So yeah, streaming is not really much of an options. We also have rolling waivers, so highest waiver position wins at the end of every day. Gives less of an advantage to people like us who follow this stuff every second. I usually carry 9 starting hitters, 1 bench hitter, 9 starters, and 3 closers. We also do a random draft order selection 2 weeks prior to the draft. Adds some strategy going into it. Lastly, because its only a 3 OF league, Im placing a little more weight on positional adjustment.

This year, for the first time in many years, I have the first pick in the draft. So yeah, actually going to own Trout. However, my first reaction was a little disappointment on likely missing all of the elite 1B in the first and second round. My 2nd and 3rd pick will be the 20th and 21st, when all of those guys will likely be gone. So here is how I am breaking it down:

    – Pick 20/21

Targeting the best SS available, which will likely be Desmond, with Hanley the fallback. Because its h2h, Tulo presents too much risk

There is a chance Rendon falls here with his injury, but Im not sure I want a piece anymore. With this knee injury potentially lingering all season, he probably won’t run as much, which should limit his value.

Torn between targeting either Harper or Donaldson here. If I target Harper, I can grab Arrenado with my 40/41 pick and If I target Donaldson here, I can grab a guy like Dickerson/Marte with my 40/41 pick.

    – Pick 40/41

This is where I plan on grabbing my first baseman. If I want any shares of Freeman, AGon, or Pujols, I would likely have to grab them with my 20/21 pick since all of their ADPs are in the 30’s. Most likely I will be targeting Ortiz here. Seems to be the safe pick.

As I mentioned before, my second pick here depends on what I do with my 20/21 pick. If I go Harper there, I go Arrenado here. If I go Donaldson there, I go Dickerson/Marte here.

    – Pick 60/61

Grabbing my first two pitchers here. Hoping Harvey makes it back to me, but otherwise going after the best two available guys. Probably some combination of Harvey/Cole/Wood/Arrieta or better if someone falls like a JZim type.

    – Pick 80/81

Targeting my 2B and Crush Davis here. Davis has an ADP of 106, so the 80th pick should hopefully be early enough to snag him. Otherwise if he is gone, likely turning my attention to best outfielder available, probably Soler.

Have been planning on targeting Kipnis here (ADP of 93), but he has had some injury issues this spring and Im a little worried it might be related to last year and/or to carry into the 2015 season. I will likely have my pick of Kipnis/Pedroia/Wong/Dozier/Betts with this pick. Right now Im starting to lean more towards Betts. He has been stellar this spring, has such a high floor, and could put up Kipnis type numbers with a 300 average.

    – Pick 100/101

Again, targeting my 3rd and 4th pitcher here. Hopefully someone falls, but otherwise definitely grabbing Carrasco here and maybe someone like DeGrom.

    – Pick 120/121

Depending on who falls or which other targets are gone, could see myself reaching for Moss or Wacha here, two guys Im very high on

    – Rest of draft

Drafting catcher last unless a great value arises. Bench bat likely last, targeting Polanco or Souza type. As I mentioned before, aiming for 9 starters and 3 closers. Will likely start targeting closers with my 140/141 pick, the Benoit/Casilla group, one more around that area and then a late flier on someone like Boxberger/Gregerson/etc.

So….any thoughts on my strategy as it stands. I know it seems kinda dumb to invest so much thought for a shallow league, but with money on the line, I need to make sure Im making the best choices I can. Appreciate your thoughts guys!

    • bossmanjunior says:
      (link)

      @bossmanjunior:

      Hypothetical roster:

      C Ramos
      1B Ortiz
      2B Kipnis/Betts
      3B Donaldson/Arrenado
      OF Trout
      OF Dickerson/Harper
      OF Moss
      UTL Davis

If I did happen to go the Donaldson route, would you rather go with Dickerson or Marte with pick 40/41? Im going to get some good speed from Kipnis/Betts, Desmond, and Trout, but not much else as my catcher, Ortiz, Davis, Moss and Donaldson are all nothing special in terms of stealing bases. Even though Dickerson is valued higher, Im thinking maybe I should target Marte instead because of the steals. Or…I could just go with the better player and target steals with my one bench bat.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Desmond, Donaldson works for me…Take Pujols, forget A-Gon and Freeman… Then Marte or Dickerson… Two SPs works, I’d go by my rankings…Then Wong and Davis… Pitchers again is fine… Don’t like Moss and Wacha that much, they’re okay… Seems to make sense…

      • bossmanjunior says:
        (link)

        @Grey:

I was saying Pujols will likely be gone before my 40/41 pick. If he falls grab him, but otherwise grab Ortiz, right?

Between Marte and Dickerson, does the rest of my team make one a better fit than the other? Dickerson has higher BA upside and power, but Marte has the clear advantage in stolen bases. Not sure if h2h influences this choice.

          Grey says:

          (link)

@bossmanjunior: you don’t NEED to grab two pitchers at 60-61, ESPECIALLY in 10 teamer.

          • Flowers misses his old glasses... he's ok tho says:
            (link)

@Flowers misses his old glasses… he’s ok tho: and really don’t need 4 SP by the start the 100’s. That’s actually way more so than my earlier statement. This is assuming you have your pitchers ranked similar to Grey, because if so, a LOT of those guys can be had much much later. So what ends up happening a lot if you do what i said here is you’ll end up with two of some pairs of guys you think now you’ll only get 1 of.

Posted this yesterday on another thread, but was hoping to get a few more opinions. Just did a private ESPN 8 team H2H draft today. It seemed like everyone was going with pitching pretty early, so I took Grey’s advice and focused on Offense. I was in the seventh drafting slot. I’ve won this league the last two years, using Greys rankings. Just wanted to get opinions on how you think the team looks. I thought I got some pretty good bargains according to Grey’s Rankings. Where should I make some improvements? Thanks, and I love this site. It’s the best around. Oh, one other things. ESPN calculated that I came in last, at the end of the draft. It did the last two years also.

did the 10 team NL only snake draft with rendon/rizzo as keepers. weird categories, with no AVG, hits total instead, and IP instead of whip, so high whip guys who don’t allow runs (i.e. rosie and walden with their high walk rates) are stronger. ER against instead of ERA also. (). It’s H2H this year, was roto last year. So guys that eat innings (even maybe with less K’s) might go up in value here also, if they have safe jobs.
    C – ruiz (25)
    1B Rizzo (keeper 1)
    2B Rendon (keeper)
    SS Rollins (8)
3B – Pedro for PIT (missed wright and r.zimm barely, in different rounds, 11th)
    MI – Owings (15)
    CI – Duda (10)
    OF – Marte (3)
    OF – Bruce (effectively i could’ve only had 2 out of Arrieta/Bruce/Soler/Yelich, 5)
OF -Myers (knew i could get him or Polanco cheap, 9)
OF – Crawford (by far best steals guy left here, 14)
util Dom Brown (sat at top of draft board for a while too, 17)
    util – Flores (21)
    BN – Hundley (18)
    SP1, Hamels (4th)
    SP 2, Arrieta (6)
    SP 3, Peavy (12)
    SP 4, Burnett (13)
    SP 5, Leake (15)
    SP 6, Haren (17)
    SP 7, Hellickson (23)
    SP 8, C.Anderson (24)
    RP 1, Cishek (7)
RP 2, Parnell (wait on DL and hope he closes later, like some think, 20th)
    RP 3, Walden (22)
BN 4 Hatcher (he becomes RP 3 when Parnell is DL’ed, 27th)
    BN (stash) Syndergaard (26)
I went Syndergaard when i thought i J.gomes (last halfway decent starting hitter) would still be around in one round. he wasn’t. Sizemore/Galvis/Olt/T.Gwynn Jr/Z.Almonte/La Stella now only starters out there (not counting ARI catchers) starters out there. Cleary most/all of those either have no value (galvis) or won’t have jobs long (olt/gwynn, maybe la stella)
When Parnell gets DL’ed should i grab another closer spec like Marshall (ARI)/league/axford/howell or best bench bat?

      @royce!:

Q: You were one of the last teams to enter the saves chase, but you made up for it by taking a bunch of relievers. Explain the process/strategy, and sell us on this bullpen.

If I may, an anecdote. I went to the supermarket yesterday and bought toilet paper. It cost $18. Ten years ago, you could buy a car for $18. Now you get four-ply TP. You know what that toilet paper looks like in three months? That’s what expensive closers look like too. So, I bought two-ply $8 toilet paper closers named Koji Uehara, Brett Cecil and Luke Gregerson.

    Last follow up….

With my league format, would you consider this a solid offense in a 10 team league where guys are getting drafted or would you have any concerns?

    C Ramos (last pick)
    1B Pujols/Ortiz (pick 40)
    2B Kipnis/Wong (pick 80)
    3B Donaldson (pick 20)
    SS Desmond (pick 21)
    OF Trout (pick 1)
    OF Dickerson/Marte (pick 41)
OF Moss (pick 120 or 140)
    UTL Davis (pick 81)

Other OF available in the same range as Moss: Zimmerman, Choo, Trumbo.

Could also wait a little bit and just take Polanco instead and then pick up Thomas or Souza as my bench bat. Thoughts?

  104. Colonel Angus says:

Definitely subscribing. Now, on to the big question. I feel like I remember a post somewhere on here that spoke in a positive light about Jung-Ho Kang. How are we feeling about him today now that it’s been reported that Mercer is “firmly entrenched” in the starting SS role? I’ve watched him play and he doesn’t seem very good. That being said, he was still around in round 20 so I picked him up to fill my MI slot but should I even bother? Is he going to get enough time to even be worth a bench slot? Other available players are Aybar, Gennett, Prado, Hill, Lowrie, Owings, Gyorko and Hardy. Should I just throw Kang back in the pool for one of these guys???

    • Way too shallow of a league to bother with an MI with playing time issues. I’d start with Aybar and swap him out once another MI gets in a better situation (eg hits 1st/2nd in lineup)

hey Grey – drafted the following team in a 20-team h2h league (10th pick). what are your thoughts? Arenado (2nd rd) and Crush (3rd) went before I could grab them, hence the long wait on 3B.

    C – Wieters
    1B – Encarnacion
    2B – Wong
    3B – Castellanos
    SS – Santana
    OF – Upton
    OF – Soler
    OF – Pederson
    Util – Saunders
    Bn – Schoop
    Bn – Dom Brown

    SP – Hamels
    SP – Richards
    SP – Latos
    RP – Cishek
    RP – Reed
    P – Hahn
    P – C. Mart
    Bn – Parnell

was waiting on Greene, House and Eovaldi but they even got swept up in the end.

I’m hoping to swap Latos for Shoemaker, then probably drop Dom Brown for CJ Cron when waivers open up

as for pitching would you grab Graveman, Heaney, CJ Wilson, Jimmy Nelson, buccholz, miley or take a flier on Mike Minor and hope he gets healthy?

    thanks, as always

    • Grey

      Grey says:

I am actually glad for this, as access to these tools is a huge huge advantage and I want fewer of my leaguemates to have access to these.

Looking forward to seeing the new DFS tools, I based my lineup optimizer algorithms on the DFSBot output so I’m definitely excited to leverage the upside projector for GPPs.

Late to the party, but here goes: $20 is a good deal. You guys have the most content-dense fbb site around. I’ll sign up for the $20, but I don’t want to then pay $40 to rotowire for their info (I also pay $50 each for a few home league entries).

I only like rotowire for the one-stop-shopping on changing items – like all projected pitchers for each team in one matrix so there’s no scrolling down a list, batting orders, daily lineups, things like that.

But the rest of it? Blah. I can’t stand looking at a player info blurb and seeing “the Oriole’s are going to have to wake up on this road trip to stop their current slide”. What? One of these days I swear I’m going to head-butt the freaking screen!

I would happily pay razzball $40 for the tools plus a some of the general depth-chart, batting orders, lineups and projected starters info. I know that all of that is available elsewhere besides rotowire, but I lazily like having it in one spot.

Deal? :) I’m in for the $20 but would love an expanded option to ditch rotowire.

    • @The Fifth Girl: Thanks. Per some of your requests:

Depth Charts: We update our playing time projections every day and you can view them by team from razzball.com/teams. We do link to RosterResource’s depth charts there as well.

Batting Orders: We link to BaseballPress’s batting orders and will have links to lineups from the daily HitterTron and DFSBot Hitter pages. They link back to our player pages if you want to dig in on a player and they have last 7 day lineup data too!

Projected Starters – That is included in Streamonator. We project 7-10 days which is the most I’ve seen on the internet.

      Hope that helps!

@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: along with this
“update the Season to Date and Rest of Season Player Raters to allow you to adjust for your league settings”
do make these from zero to $50 pinch pockets less, much less as not only will those make money, they are customizeable to our own specific situations.
