We’re getting to the point in the summer known as the dog days. People a little too comfortable with their surroundings, don’t pay as much attention, think everything’s good and hey let’s listen to Sugar Ray…frankly, act like the knights of summer.  But Cat Stark is right, winter is coming, and it’s known as your DFS entry on Draft today. Don’t get cute with someone like J.A. Happ, who’s in the newest of all new situations, the Yankees’ starting rotation, being asked to bring hope when Judge is out and the Yanks are staring at the play-in game. Or the most Texas name of all time, Lance McCullers, facing a Texas team who hits him to a .310 batting average and .865 OPS. Corey Kluber is the man. After his post-All Star game hiccup, he’s still carrying a 12-6 record with a 2.88 ERA and .95 WHIP. He’s facing Detroit, whose best players are collecting checks sitting by the rehab pool. Let the Klubinator loose and dominate like the Night King (for the love of R’hllor, George, finish the book!). MLB ballplayers may be set apart as a different breed in terms of talent, but men finding out they’re going to be a father?  That’s an almost universal boost of pure “life is good” feeling. Add that to Justin Verlander‘s normal ace of all aces bag of tricks, and today could be one of those sublime virtuoso performances. Draft: An Oasis In The Desert

His season has ridden under the radar, like rain in the desert of Arizona, but today Zack Greinke has an indisputable three-headed monster of a start lined up. He is at home where he is 4-1 with a 2.44 ERA and .994 WHIP. He is facing the lowly San Diego Padres, who hit him to a Mendoza-like .177 batting average with a .489 OPS.  And last but not least, over his past three starts, he has pitched like the former Cy Young award winner he is: 3-0, 0.92 ERA, .864 WHIP. Draft: Oh Canada!

When the early spring rolls around, there are these wonderful gatherings in the northeast known as maple festivals.  Now, thanks to big James Paxton, there’s a maple festival every 5th day in the Pacific Northwest. The Big Maple himself, pride of Ladner BC, gets to face the grovelling Kansas City Royals today at home in Seattle.  Paxton beat the Royals earlier in the year 4-2, pitching 6 innings with 10 strikeouts. Draft: McCullers Is The Real McCoy

If you’ve ever been to that little jewel of a ballpark in Houston, you can hear the refrain every game: Deep in the heart of Texas!  And they’re singing it full throat with a World Series win last year and one of the juggernauts this year.  One reason: their starting pitching.  And hiding in plain sight, behind Verlander, Cole, and Morton, is a man by the name of Lance McCullers, and he is indeed the real McCoy.  This year he’s  8-3 with a 3.83 ERA and 1.190 WHIP and today he faces Kansas City, who come in at 22-48 and are 1-9 in their last 10.  Now let’s look at a few more early-, middle- and late-round picks for your Draft…drafts!

Draft: Jump For Sevy

There’s a common refrain heard all across New York these days. Come on, you know it well….All Rise. Now that’s reserved for a certain gargantuan pinstriped outfielder, but today Yankees fans will be jumping up to cheer Luis Severino. Sevy, as he is lovingly known, has spent the year carving up the league, including the powerful Astros. Today he gets the Mets, who in the best of times hit him to a Mendoza-like .162 average and .581 OPS. It is the worst of times for the Mets, so expecting any resistance to a Severino fastball is just plain foolish. It may be tempting to take Max Scherzer with an early pick, but it is expected to rain and rain some more in Washington today. Kluber is also on the docket, but the Tigers hit a sneaky .791 OPS against him. He’s facing the Indians in Cleveland who are only a .500 team despite leading their division. Chris Sale is tempting, but there’s a few Braves who hit him; the same with Strasburg in Miami. For the most part, it’s getting warmer in this great land of ours. But every fifth day, there’s a cold wind blowing from the Northeast. No, winter is not coming, and thanks to George R.R. Martin and HBO, it might never get here. Instead it is the lightning in the golden right arm of Thor himself: Noah Syndergaard. The Norse God has lit it up this year, and today he goes against the suddenly toothless Arizona Diamondbacks.  Without A.J. Pollock, the lineup has underwhelmed, and what’s left barely hits to a .500 OPS against the mighty Syndergaard. Let’s look at a few more early-, middle- and late-round picks for your Draft…drafts!

They call Draft fantasy for the people, and why not? It’s easy as Sunday morning. Sign up at Draft.com, do a quick snake draft of 3, 4, 6 or 10 players, and get a piece of the payouts. Here at Razzball, we recommend using Value-Based Drafting (VBD) to make the most of your roster. Using Rudy’s tools, you can easily sort values and take the projected points for the final player drafted at each position (P, IF, OF) and subtracting from all the players at that position, then re-ranking based on VBD.
