Sometimes simple is better, and the simplest answer today is SP Jose Berrios ($10,100).  He’s the third highest cost on the FanDuel slate for a very good reason: The Twins are playing the last place Orioles.  That’s right, the Orioles are so bad, they’ve sunken below the sluggish Red Sox in the AL East.  It doesn’t hurt that Berrios is sporting a 2-0 record with a 1.26 ERA at home so far this year, and is carrying a .93 WHIP overall.  Now on to the picks.

FanDuel: Snell(s) Like Teen Spirit

Blake Snell ($12,000) may look like a 16 year old on the verge of shaving, but he’s a bonafide skull crusher between the white lines.  Not only that, but with the Red Sox and Yankees struggling, his Tampa Bay Rays are the toast of the AL East so far this year.  Senior Zilla has upped his game to the alternative rock tune of a 2.84 ERA, .89 WHIP, and 12.79 K/9 this year.  Cue Dave Grohl’s killer snares.  Honestly, his numbers against the current Jays, whose only power comes from the left side (that Snell neutralizes), are downright brilliant.  They hit .123 with a .364 OPS against him, and he has a 2.96 ERA in Rogers Center to boot.  His man competition, Justin Verlander, is facing the red hot Mariners, which gives Snell the clear edge for best start of the day.  Now let’s take a look at the rest of the slate today.

Fanduel: James Paxton’s Broadway Debut

Staaaaaart spreadin’ the news, he’s starting today.  He wants to be a part of it, the Yankee Rotation.  James Paxton ($10,400) gets his close up in pinstripes and he’s got a soft landing.  The Baltimore Orioles and their latest edition of a terrible team face off against Paxton, who comes out of Spring Training with a nifty stat line of a 2.08 ERA/.981 WHIP/9.9 K9.  Let’s face it, the Orioles are worse than some of the lineups he faced in Spring Training.  Now let’s take a look at the rest of the slate today.

Draft: The Lightning Struck Tower

For Harry Potter fans, the Lightning Struck Tower chapter is the end of an era.  For us, it’s the final day of the 2018 Fantasy Baseball Season.  A moment of silence for an incredible season of ups and downs, heroes and goats, legends in the making and fading into the distance….And let us now embark on our final day on the shoulders of the god of lightning himself: Noah Syndergaard.  Thor is striking today against the lowly Miami Marlins, and thanks to his incredible teammate the deGrominator , the Norse Noah will be motivated to put his own indelible stamp on the MLB season.  Not only do the Marlins hit him to a weak .686 OPS, but it’s a day game, and during the warm glow of daytime Syndergaard shines even brighter: 4-1 with a 2.61 ERA.  Other big names are playing for teams that are locked into playoff position so will be on low pitch counts, like Charlie Morton and Carlos Carrasco, or rookies pushing themselves beyond what they’ve ever done, like Walker Buehler.  It’s Noah Syndergaard with a lightening struck bullet as the number one pick today.  Now let’s look at a few more early-, middle- and late-round picks for your Draft…drafts!

When the leaves hint at turning and school has begun, and the penultimate Sunday of the fantasy season is at hand, Led Zeppelin always feels right.  One pitcher channeling Celebration Day is the Yankees’ J.A. Happ.  This guy is 6-0 with his new team and facing the moribund Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium.  The Birds can only flail at Happ’s offerings: they hit .229 with a .683 against him lifetime.  He’s #1 on the Streamonator  for the excellent reasons stated above and a worthy first round pick.  Now let’s look at a few more early-, middle- and late-round picks for your Draft…drafts!

If there was any man worthy of a ten-gallon hat, a gun on his hip, and spurs on his boots, it would be the long arm of the law (Mowing Down Opposing Batters Division) known as Justin Verlander.  Now in his 13th season, he’s as vintage as ever, with a 2.72 ERA and .94 WHIP.  He has held today’s opponent, the Arizona Diamondbacks, to a collective .214 batting average and .647 OPS.  He’s even stepped up his game as Halloween candy has started showing up in the grocery aisles.  He’s the boogeyman who haunts opponents nightmares; make him your dream come true today.  Now let’s look at a few more early-, middle- and late-round picks for your Draft…drafts!

Draft: The deGrominator

Here’s a salute to all the fantasy baseball fans staying true in the face of the onslaught of the NFL: you who have the red seams of the ball running through your blood and the white of the bases in your bones. Today is a day for the most wonderful, hard-luck, incredible starting pitcher this year: Jacob deGrom. His ERA is 1.68, his WHIP 0.96. Despite a 9-9 record, he will most likely win the NL Cy Young. And today the deGrominator gets the Phillies, who have hit him to a paltry .218 batting average and .596 OPS. Now, thanks to the threat of rain in several places in baseball land, I’m going to give you some alternatives, some special bonus player entries this week.  If the rain comes down in New York as forecast (there’s a lot of it around: at time of posting, the Marlins-Pirates game has already been postponed), grab Robbie Ray of the Arizona Diamondbacks.  He’s going against the Atlanta Braves, who are losing a lot lately, in heartbreaking fashion, and have hit Ray to a tiny .207 batting average and .475 OPS.  He’s not ranked above deGrom, as his year has not been quite as sterling, but he’s a worthy 1A nonetheless. Some people love cake, others pie and ice cream.  For pure joy in confections today, look no further than the Cleveland Indians’ ace, Carlos “Cookie” Carrasco.  Carrasco has a 16-7 record this year, with a 3.38 ERA and 1.112 WHIP.  Add to the mix a Tampa Bay team that hits him to a paltry .083 batting average and .328 OPS, and it makes Carlos Carrasco one tough cookie today.  There are plenty of other big names on the slate, but none with a clearer path to dominance. In another life, Luis Severino had a 3.33 ERA against the Orioles, and a 3.62 ERA in their home park of Camden Yards, where he is pitching today. That was before the length and strength of that Baltimore lineup, Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop in particular, left to help other teams reach the postseason in the National League.  The Yankees are not exactly desperate, but they are in need of a good Severino, and facing this Baltimore lineup is just the trick.  It’s because of info like this that Severino is #1 with a bullet on our Streamonator.  Now let’s look at a few more early-, middle- and late-round picks for your Draft…drafts!

Fantasy baseball can be cruel! One minute, Chris Sale is sitting there as a great first-round choice; the next, the fantasy baseball gods — along with the Red Sox long-term taking-it-easy schedule due to their stranglehold on the AL East — land Sale on the DL.  In his stead there is a savior, however, and his name is not who you might expect.  Mike Clevinger is number 1 on Streamonator, above such luminaries as Verlander, Greinke and Kershaw, for a very good reason.  He’s facing the lowly Baltimore Orioles at home; they hit him to only a .132 batting average with a .408 OPS.  Keep your faith in those long, flowing locks and roll to a win.  Now let’s look at a few more early-, middle- and late-round picks for your Draft…drafts!

Draft: Wins For Sale!

The iconic first sentence of one of the greatest novels of all time comes to mind: “Call me Ishmael.” That is what Chris Sale’s start against the Baltimore Orioles today could be: the beginning, middle, and end of potentially one of the greatest starts of the year.  Chris Sale works amazingly well on extra days of rest and he’s coming off an easy vacation masquerading as a DL stint. Throw in the fact that the Oriole hitters — those who remain after the trade deadline purge — hit Sale for .189 with a .510 OPS, which is basically at the level of single-A hitters facing a Cy Young award-winner, and it all adds up to the potential for something amazing. Let others jump on Max Scherzer; the Cubs hit him to a .958 OPS.  It’s Sale for the win upon win today. Now let’s look at a few more early-, middle- and late-round picks for your Draft…drafts!

Draft: No One Like Nola

1939 was a great year for movies.  You’ve got Gone with the Wind, Goodbye Mr. Chips and, of course, The Wizard Of Oz.  Dorothy told us there’s no place like home, and that’s the mantra for #1 on today’s Streamonator: Aaron Nola. Nola’s home numbers are mind blowing. Get this: 8-0, 1.99 ERA, .985 WHIP. And today his victims are the sad Miami Marlins, who hit Nola to a weak .214 batting average and .512 OPS.  Others may be focused on Gerrit Cole, but he’s facing the Dodgers, who know him well and have had some success against him.
