SAGNOF Bullpen Report Week 23: The Other Mason M

Okie dokie, folks. Reckon we’re in the final throes of the season, and a team-by-team recap ain’t all that helpful. Short and sweet from here on out — back to just highlighting some names you should be paying attention to, if’n you’re still breathing. I got one team still hanging on, and of all things, the bullpen has fallen apart at the worst time…

Mason Montgomery gets headline privileges this week. Mr. Miller ain’t the only badass Mason M. catching saves and racking up Ks these days. This week, Monty boasted a 5:1 K:BB while snatching 2 SV. Still available in 39% of Fantrax leagues as I type this up…go check right now if he’s slipped past your radar. For what it’s worth, he’s got more SVHD and K than that other Mason over the last 30 days, all while cruising to a 0.47 WHIP. Wasn’t hard to see the kid had the chops to get to this level, he just kept getting smacked hard and walking everyone like his name was Texas Ranger. Mayhap he’s figured it out for real, mayhap it’s a hot streak. Doesn’t matter. Scoop him immediately if you can. And don’t forget about him come draft day next year. The screenshot below shows his metrics for the month of August. Pretty rad stuff:

Elvis Alvarado picked up 2 SV while striking out 3. He’s been busy lately and been quite effective. I’m looking at him on my wire as my team’s pen flounders…on the flip side, he’s burned me once already this year, and I truly have an uncanny knack for adding relievers who straight up chug dog water the moment they pitch for one of my teams. No runs, a sub-0.80 WHIP, and 4 SVHD over his last two weeks.

Bryan Hudson of all people is making a name for himself in the latter stages of 2026. Once was a kind of sexy sneaky holds option for Milwaukee, then injuries hit. He’s found a home in South Side Chicago, and now has each of the last two White Sox saves, coming on back-to-back days. Guy is available everywhere, I’m sure. Only 14% of Fantrax owners have wised up.

Andrew Kittredge earned 2 SV, striking out 2. Did, however, allow 4 H and 1 BB in just 3 IP. But no runs! Woo! I can’t get very excited about this guy at this juncture, but saves are saves. Very hard to come by any on the wire these days, and he’s still out there in 79% of Fantrax realms.

So those were some saves guys to take a gander at. Here are the holds guys who might be able to help you:

Trent Harris had 3 HLD and 4 K this week. Only allowed two baserunners in 4 IP. Everything he’d done up until this week of brilliance was incredibly lackluster and uninspiring, so this may be nothing.

Dylan Dodd was the only other RP with 3 HLD this week, striking out 2. My love affair with Dylan Lee is souring by the day. He’s one of the guys killing my team in the playoffs, but I can’t bring myself to drop him. I’ll live or die by the man, damn it! But yeah, Dodd. He’s doing great. Maybe will leapfrog Lee down the stretch, who knows. Here’s how the metrics stack up over the last month. Generating lots of swing and miss, walking almost no one, and any contact is mostly weak:

Taylor Saucedo had 2 HLD and 5 K. It’s the Angels, so I wouldn’t prioritize the fella, but in deep formats he could be just the ticket!

A.J. Blubaugh also had 2 HLD and 5 K, walking none and allowing none to score. Kinda crowded back there, especially with Abreu looking decent again (which only means he’ll suck if you add him).
